KISSING? LESSONS? When I say I want a "teach me" book, this is what I mean. Inject it into my veins. And that's not the only trope Solomon explores with care, humor, and heart--this whole thing is a delightful trope-fest.
Finn and Chandler are perfectly matched. His sweet, soft, cinnamon-roll demeanor couples amazingly with her spicy, feisty, "I'm going to fight for my life and figure out what's next" fire. I love that this book explores Judaism with sensitivity and gives real depth to existential questions. As a creative with angst (synonyms? maybe), I feel so very seen it's unbelievable.
Also, I've had a secret desire for a Teen Wolf-inspired hero and this scratched that itch, as Finn was a former celeb in a wildly popular tv show. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
Rachel Lynn Solomon said “this is my steamiest book yet” and then completely delivered on that promise.
I loved this book. So much. We love a man who is a quick and eager learner, and Finn truly delivered. I loved how open and honest the communication between Chandler and Finn was, both during their sex lessons and as they got to know one another. The representation, as expected, was on point and I loved how sex positive it was. Toys, lube, spanking - oh my! The tension that the author built between the two characters was BANANAS. So freaking hot.
Beyond the spice, Chandler and Finn both felt very real to me - flawed, but incredibly relatable. The pacing of their relationship worked well and I loved the friendship that formed between them.
Business or Pleasure releases July 3rd, and you’re going to want to pre-order it now! Thank you to Berkley for the advanced e-ARC.
thanks for letting me read this book i really enjoyed the book it was pretty fun and liked that there was a Hollywood guy that had to learn the ways of the bedroom and a girl who could teach him and it wasn't weird i cant wait for it to be released. I hope that everyone gets to enjoy the banter and sarcasm and the entire awesomeness of the book
This was such a wonderfully sex-positive book and I loved every minute of Chandler and Finn and all the chaos that is their lives.
My favorite of Solomon's adult works! It's funny and awkward and romantic and she writes such dimensional and charming characters. I especially love the plot of this one; forced proximity + sex lessons = a major win for BUSINESS OR PLEASURE!
Every book by Rachel Lynn Solomon delights. Her characters are fantastic and the stories really draw you in. Business or Pleasure is right along those lines albeit with some extra spice thrown in. Overall, would highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this new book by Rachel Lynn Solomon. I liked her previous 2 adult romance books and I was excited to read this one. Chandler is a ghost writer and Finn is the c-list actor (claim to fame a teen werewolf show from 10 years ago - think Riverdale or The Vampire Diaries) that she is helping write a memoir for. The catch? They had a disastrous one-night stand before she was hired. I really loved the chemistry between Chandler and Finn and I also loved how sex positive the book was. It was an interesting premise and I think the author executed it well. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a heartfelt, steamy romance novel!
Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 4.5/5 stars
Business or Pleasure is the new romance from Rachel Lynn Solomon and the woman never misses. The story follows ghostwriter Chandler Cohen as she is tasked with writing a memoir for struggling actor Finn Walsh. Things get complicated because Chandler already knows Finn - they recently had an awkward disaster of a one night stand. When Finn finds out Chandler was less than impressed by their night together, he is mortified and proposes that Chandler…help him with his bedroom game.
The premise of this book is amazing, but it also requires some very cringey scenes. I loved Chandler and Finn, but I will be erasing that one night stand from my brain (this is a compliment on RLJ’s writing). I found Chandler’s career as a ghostwriter to be so fascinating and now I need to know what celebrities had ghostwriters. Finn was absolutely adorable and I couldn’t help but see Dylan O’Brien in my head the entire time. The two had excellent chemistry (after they figured out a few things) and the angst between the two was real. I was so invested in their story and in Chandler’s career struggles. Also, shout-out to the cozy mystery appreciation in this book. Rachel Lynn Solomon understands me.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Rachel Lynn Solomon books always manage to be equally spicy and insightful, both fun and thought-provoking, and BUSINESS OR PLEASURE is no exception. Chandler is a ghostwriter who has been in a bit of a rut professionally and personally. She is stuck in some ways that are mostly negative (unfulfilling work, stuck on a romantic prospect that didn’t really pan out) and some that definitely have positive aspects (a sweet/comfortable friendship with roommate/cousin Noemie and some worry over older parents). This is the kind of nuanced exploration that make Solomon’s books so special. Characters are multifaceted and human, their revelations feel vulnerable and true. In this story, there are lots of topics that receive this kind of attention and insight … OCD/mental health, sexuality, communication with partners, creativity (and specifically being creative for a living), and more. With fun details about fans, fandoms and cons and a great spark between Chandler and Finn, this one is highly recommended.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Business or Pleasure is Rachel’s third adult romcom and while I absolutely loved her first two adult romcom books and YA novels, this is truly her best one yet! I smiled from ear to ear reading this (far too quickly) and loved Chandler and Finn and Chandler’s endearing friendship with Noemie. Releases: June 20, 2023!
Chandler and Finn were both relatable, sincere, and funny characters: Chandler is a ghostwriter stuck in the shadows and wondering what’s next for her career. When her next writing gig turns out to be an actor named Finn who happens to be her terrible one-night stand from the night before, both Chandler and Finn have to push through the awkwardness and work together on his memoir.
I’ve always loved the slow burn romance trope in RLS books because she navigates it so well. I love seeing her characters meet, actually get to know each other and have open and honest communication (even about triggering topics: anxiety, abortion, OCD, parental abandonment, emotional abuse), fall in love at their own pace, and I mean…the steamy scenes were something else! I loved all their sexy lessons and how they always prioritized each other and stayed on the same page. RLS always encourages therapy, prioritizing mental health, body and sex positivity, following your dreams, and character growth in her novels and thought that was really done well too! Well done! <3
Thanks for the ARC NetGalley!
What a fantastic read! Rachel Lynn Solomon is beyond talented. The way she evokes emotion and presents difficult topics with such lightness is seriously impressive. Also this book was steamy! I kind of guessed based on the summary but no joke!
Basically we have Chandler Cohen, a celebrity ghostwriter, who has a one night stand with this guy. Something she never does and the risk is… not super worth it actually? He’s not great. Or good. But one night is whatever to Chandler. The next day however, Chandler rushes to a new client lunch only to realize her one night stand is her new celebrity client. Finn is horrified when he finds out that their night wasn’t good for her and one thing leads to another… they grow close in more ways than one. It’s emotionally vulnerable and sweet and my heart was so full reading this.
Check this one out June 20,2023!
Oh Em geeeee! I absolutely loved this story about a ghostwriter who falls for her celebrity client, a former teen heartthrob. The relationship was so earnest and tender with so many super hot scenes mixed in there as well. The biggest win for me was how the main characters really lifted each other up and and helped one another grow their confidence and self esteem.
Total win!
This was a great read! Such a fun premise. I love Rachel Lynn Solomon’s books. It was a great way to kick off a new year of reading .
This might be my favorite Rachel Lynn Solomon novels. I thought the premise was so good and the characters too. I enjoyed the fandom aspects, with the characters attending Comic Cons and sharing about their nerdy childhoods. But the relationship between the two characters really sold the story. They both had their own struggles and difficulties to overcome within the relationship but also in life. I especially connected with the way Chandler struggled with staying in a reliable job or following her dream. Overall, if you enjoy reading a romance with very real characters, a fun story, and a happy ending then I would recommend this one.
Wow this is my favorite Rachel Lynn Solomon book yet!
I loved these characters. Chandler doesn't know in the beginning where her writing life is going, then she meets Finn Walsh, a celebrity who is looking to have his memoir written and wants her to write it.
As they get to know each other, they both discover more about their lives as a whole.
They have such great chemistry! And I loved seeing Finn as a celebrity but also a real person as he opens up to Chandler.
But we can't forget the side characters too! Chandler's family and her cousin Noemie. And I loved how we have the Jewish faith intertwined throughout.
I also loved the little nod to her other book in here and to some great companies out there.
A really really great book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Be still my nerdy heart! I loved every minute of Business or Pleasure. From the con life to obsessing over a supernatural tv show to the sex positives vibes, Business or Pleasure is sure to please any reader on multiple levels from the brain right town to your socks covered feet and every place in between.
I love Rachel Lynn Solomon's books! As usual, so cute. I've given every one of her books 5 stars. I loved the reference to The Ex Talk. I hope she keeps writing!
I loved Rachel's YA so I thought I'd try out her adult works, too. I'm glad I began with this one. I love the love letter of this book to fandom (something I'm super familiar with as a fandom dork!), as well as the way Chandler approached her sex education with Finn ;-)
So, first let me say that the many, very horny sex scenes are 10/10. They are fun and sex positive and well written. They were by far my favorite part of this book and I hope Solomon keeps writing extra steamy romance because she is GOOD at it. I didn't love the boss/employee dynamic, but that part was pretty subtle and I think was intended to be offset by the teacher/student sexual relationship. The con setting was cute and I didn't even mind that Finn was weirdly naive for a person who's lived and worked in Hollywood for so long. I only wish they had a different connection to each other instead of the ghost writer/subject situation.
I love this book. I love the characters. It has the BEST dialogue and I'm all about great dialogue. It was hard to put down and I can't wait to add it to our shelves!!
