Rachel Lynn Solomon can STILL do no wrong in my eyes. All of her books are so fantastic and addicting! Like Abby Jimenez, I just can't put down her romances... I find myself staying up too late reading.
Our MC Chandler is a ghostwriter and ends up getting hired to write a memoir for an actor, Finn, from an old teen favorite werewolf show. The only problem? She hooked up with him and had a disastrous one night stand the night before they "meet" about the job. He's embarrassed as hell when he learns that he was NOT good in bed and the two come up with a plan. Chandler will teach him how to ~please a partner~ while they're out on the comic con circuit together writing his book.
I really enjoyed that this one was more sexier (and sex positive in general) than her other books. Chandler minored in gender and sexuality studies so she's just become really comfortable with all things sex. Naturally the two of them have some chemistry. I think some reviewers thought the book focused too much on their sexual chemistry and not enough on their relationship (talking, spending time together, etc.) and I totally disagree. I think Solomon did a great job of showing how well they got along and genuinely liked each other outside of the bedroom. Their attraction and banter were obvious from the start!
I think because of some of the topics in this book, it did SOMETIMES get more preachy. I obviously appreciated (and agree with!) the messages and fully understand where Chandler was coming from, but there was just a lot of commentary throughout that took me out of it sometimes. I did enjoy and appreciate the conversations about mental health and abortion though - worthwhile discussions!
There were a ton of references to Lord of the Rings and cozy mysteries, which made this such a fun book to read - the characters felt very real and fleshed out. I liked the side characters (her parents, her cousin, Finn's mom, and Finn's friends) quite a bit as well. As always, Solomon creates a relatable and engaging cast of characters. I adored this book and can't wait for her next one!
Just as with all of Rachel Lynn Solomon's books, her characters burst to life on the page. They are likeable and relatable (even if in this case one of them is an actor!). They have an easy banter, the wit will make you laugh out loud, the spicy scene are indeed spicy (and abundant, and varied), and the plot is interesting, exciting, and satisfying while working within the romance genre's confines.
I really loved this one!
When a not-so-great one-night stand turns out to be the celebrity subject of Chandler's new ghostwriting job, she's expecting things to get awkward. Especially when the job comes with the expectation that Chandler will go on the road with Finn while he attends a variety of Fan Cons around the country. The two clearly have chemistry, and Finn enlists Chandler's help improving his ~skills~ while they're on the road. They can do casual...right?
This was such a fun read with just enough angst to add a good amount of emotion. Chandler and Finn were both really funny and quirky characters and their banter was great. I found myself laughing along with this one quite often.
Both characters have mental health issues (Finn with OCD and Chandler with anxiety) and I felt like both of these were handled well. They definitely weren't the main focus of either character, but it wasn't just thrown in for the sake of mental health representation. Both seemed thoughtfully considered and had purpose within the story.
Rachel Lynn Solomon is quickly becoming one of my favorite rom-com writers. This one was extra fun with the added ghost-writing element to it.
This one was so cute! I've enjoyed Rachel Lynn Solomon's books and I was pleasantly surprised by the characters and the premise!
I have enjoyed the past stories I've read from Rachel Lynn Solomon and was so happy that that sentiment remained as I finished up her latest! This was such a fun celebrity-like romance with two characters you couldn't help but love. It was a fun start with the awkward one-night-stand, but after that, seeing how they handled it and developed their own relationship was a joy. Plus the deal they made with each other created some spicy yet sweet moments. While this wasn't my favorite book of this author, it was still solid and I will absolutely read more from her!
This was a lighthearted and cute read with an amount of spice that I wasn’t expecting. I’m not a huge fan of the usual slow-burn rom-com. I was pleasantly delighted with this one. The spicy scenes mingled throughout kept the pacing moving forward without taking away from the plot.
Chandler and Finn were quirky and adorable. What could have been an awkward working relationship after an embarrassing one-night stand turned into a friends-with-benefits relationship based on open communication and self-discovery between two imperfect and vulnerable characters.
Chandler was confident and fun. I loved how open and comfortable she was, someone I wish I had the confidence to be. Finn was a likable character, and his awkwardness is what made the plot so entertaining, but felt a bit awkward for me as a romance reader. He was the total opposite of the usual MMC who knew their way around the bedroom. Even though this isn’t a favorite characteristic of mine when it comes to MMCs, his character was so awkwardly cute that his lack of skills made him feel authentic. As the story unfolds and he shares his life for his memoir, that Chandler is ghostwriting, he reveals his struggles with OCD.
This was an original and fun take on the one-night stand/workplace romance and a funny and cute story.
I really loved this book. There was plenty of spice, and the banter was great. Overall, Chandler and Finn were two characters that were very easy to root for.
Absolutely loved this delightful read by Rachel Lynn Soloman. This is the third book I’ve read by her and they’ve each been page turners. In Business or Pleasure, Chandler Cohen is a ghostwriter writing a book for Finn Walsh, an actor known for his role in a teen werewolf series that has a cult following. The only problem is that Chandler has met Finn previously when they had a one night stand and she walked out in the middle of the night because their sexual encounter left something to desired. Determined to keep things professional, Chandler realizes that might be easier said than done and that maybe Finn just needs a little coaching in the pleasure department.
If you like books featuring...
* celebrity falling in love
* learning about the book writing process
* fake dating
This was cute. I liked the open communication and conversations that occurred between the two main characters. The spice was informative and thorough. However, this also wasn't really the book for me. It was cute while also being a little lackluster. There wasn't really anything too memorable or that stood out. It wasn't bad, but wasn't something that really blew me away.
Fun, witty banter that has you smiling and rooting for the two main characters to turn business into pleasure (or both!).
Rachel Lynn Solomon has written a funny, cute, and engaging rom-com that I could picture on the big screen. The love interests have a bookish meet-cute (that ends not so cute, but the sex scene at the beginning of the book is totally realistic for your first time with someone new— sex can be a messy, awkward affair sometimes!)
Readers will fall in love with the male character, Finn. He’s nerdy, sweet, and a great match for the female character, Chandler. Using the plot device that Chandler is ghostwriting Finn’s memoir, we see Chandler and Finn learn more about each other including their fears and hopes.
If you’re looking for your next HEA without too much spice and cute romantic gestures– this one is for you!
This book took me places I emotionally wasn't prepared to go.
From writing for others to writing for yourself, to finding joy in words and characters, to finding joy in other's people's joy and obsessions, to laying yourself open to rejection for the chance of finding something deeper and more to everything else.
Solomon is a champ at writing romances that rip me apart heart and soul, filled with witty banter between her characters and fun plays on tropes—and I truly hope that she decides to write a steamy cozy mystery novel one day filled to the brim with puns upon puns.
The sexy scenes were HOT (although the sexy talk left much to be desired for me, personally), and the chemistry between Chandler and Finn was fantastic. So the secondary characters were all underbaked, so what? It was still a fun ride, and hit my scabbed over mental wounds.
An actor and his ghostwriter put in extra hours in Rachel Lynn Solomon's scorching, bighearted romance, Business or Pleasure. Chandler has worked as a professional ghostwriter since the Web journalism site she worked for closed. After a dispiriting book event for her latest client, Chandler meets a gorgeous, charming stranger and goes back to his hotel with him. Unfortunately, they have the worst sex of her life. Even worse? She finds out the next day she's going to be ghostwriting his debut memoir.
Since his fan-favorite role on the paranormal teen drama The Nocturnals, Finn hasn't landed many acting roles. Most of his work time is spent traveling to fan conventions, so he and Chandler travel the country as he shares his life story and she turns it into a book. Naturally, they also engage in some extracurricular activities in the form of sex lessons. Lord of the Rings mega-fan Finn and fledgling cozy mystery writer Chandler will make even the most jaded romance readers blush.
As usual, Solomon's characters are well-developed and relatable. Finn and Chandler are both Jewish, and their faith shapes their lives and their connection to each other to varying degrees. Solomon (Weather Girl) also treats the subjects of abortion and mental health with care and respect--Finn has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Chandler has clinical anxiety. Business or Pleasure is a steamy love letter to fandom and creative passion, set in the form of a forced-proximity workplace romance. Fans of Book Lovers and A Merry Little Meet Cute, take note.

Chandler finds out her next ghostwriting project is for her former one night stand and C-List actor, Finn Walsh. When Chandler tells Finn that their night together wasn’t great, he convinces her to help him with his skills.
I love Rachel Lynn Solomon’s books, and this was just as good as her others!
Chandler Cohen had dreams of writing fiction when the practicalities of making a living prompted her to switch focus to journalism instead, but the dream has never died. However, after being laid off she had to change her career focus again and started ghost writing celebrity memoirs. Her latest job working with a shallow influencer has her questioning her path. This is how she ends up having a drink that leads to an awkward one-night stand. She thinks she’ll never see him again only to find out he’s her newest celebrity client.
Finnegan Walsh, stars in a supernatural TV series, The Nocturnals, that formed a cult following. It kind of reminded me of the love for Buffy (huge fan here!) series, centering on werewolves. Finnegan is shocked to learn that the one-night stand was less than stellar for Chandler, and he’d like a chance to improve which leads to Chandler and Finn embarking on lessons while they work together, road-tripping on Finn’s fan-tour across the states.
I did feel the reason Chandler held back in their relationship, thinking Finn wasn’t serious about her only that he was in it for the lessons only, was weak. Her insecurities about their status could’ve been cleared up with a conversation. Thankfully, this wasn’t a drawn out, drama filled situation.
Their lessons are extremely steamy, but their connection becomes more than physical as the tour goes on. As they spend time delving into Finn’s life, Finn wants to know about Chandler as well, and they swap stories forming a deeper and deeper connection.
Finn and Chandler were complex characters, imperfect, but likable. There were some heavier subjects dealt with here like coping with OCD, complicated parental relationships, and antisemitism. There was a nice Jewish representation, as well. Business or Pleasure is the third book I’ve thoroughly enjoyed by Rachel Lynn Solomon and it’s the hottest book to date!
I loved this so much! Rachel Lynn Solomon is quickly becoming one of my auto-read authors. Chandler and Finn were so sweet together and their flirting and banter was fun. I really loved how sex positive this was and the mental health rep. The character growth was excellent. Chandler and Finn's meeting gave them the opportunity to learn what they want, to grow together, and lead to bigger things in both of their lives.
I highly recommend to any romance lover and a big shout out to the narrator of the audiobook - Hathaway Lee!
funny, quirky, down-to-earth. loved the sex positivity and mental health rep and the lil THE EX TALK cameo. RLS consistently develops her characters beautifully. overall a sweet rom com that brings the steam too!!
Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon was a romantic romp filled with witty and sarcastic banter. It contains full-on open door spicy sex scenes – buckle up!
I fell in love with the two MCs. Chandler is stuck in the shadows as she ghost writes books for celebrities, and Finn, who lives in the spotlight touring in conventions from his time in a popular werewolf show. (Think Twilight.) The yin and yang between them was spot on. Neither are thrilled by where they’ve landed in life and it’s through their friendship that they begin to find themselves.
I use the term friendship lightly as Chandler is also giving Finn “lessons” for when he’s with other women. This whole concept could’ve gone awry and been ridiculously cheesy, but it did not. It was actually well done with a sex positive theme honed throughout the story.
I really appreciate Solomon’s representation of Jewish characters and normalizing the rituals she brings to light. Also, huge kudos to the narrator (Hathaway Lee) of the audio book – great job.
Grab this one for your beach bag if you want some spice in your reading repertoire.
Enjoyable but when I finished it felt a bit lackluster. Not sure if it’s due to some plot points feeling unresolved or some other reason. Always appreciate the Jewish rep. 3.5 stars
