Thank you to the publisher for granting me this early e-book. I really think that it is another case of being a me problem. I did not check to see that this was a part of a series and at this point in time in my life I’m just not interested in reading books that are a continuation of series. This is number eight in a series. It’s called the Madie Ives series and we are following Detective Madie Ives. She is just doing her normal day-to-day things when all the sudden she gets a call of another body that’s been found two people were found in a hallway in an isolated rule home they’ve been stabbed multiple times, and the victims hands are tied behind the back. The girl has several fingernails ripped out of her nail beds, so Maddie goes on scene and she’s trying to uncover what happened to these people. I personally did not enjoy this book but again, I think it’s because of the character development I feel like we were pushed into the story with this mean detective and not reading the previous seven books I didn’t really have an attachment to the detective and he didn’t really love her as a character that hindered my enjoying of the book so I think if you have been following along the series, then you might like it more than I did. I wouldn’t recommend it for an audio to hasn’t read the other books though.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #JoffeBooks for the copy of #TheGirlUnderTheFloor by #CharlieGallagher
Maddie Ives is a great detective that never gives up, no matter where the higher ups are saying. Another good read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC. I hadn’t previously read any of this series but I managed to follow along and enjoy this book. I will definitely be starting from the beginning of the series, the writing is good and full of suspense! The characters are realistic and likeable which always helps. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series
I love Charlie Gallagher books and I particularly like the ones that suck you straight in on page 1 and this one did exactly that!! I was hooked right from the start!
However, a bit further into the book, I started to get a bit confused and in fact, had to go back and re-read a couple of chapters where I felt as if I had somehow lost the plot.. I have made a personal decision to start taking notes while I’m reading books in the future to try and keep up.
There was also a spell in the middle where I felt not much was happening, however, the book picked up momentum again towards the dramatic ending.
All in all it was a good read, not the best in this series but a worthy 4 stars.
I received this advanced e.reader book from the publishers but my review is entirely voluntary and entirely my honest opinion.
I didn’t realize this was a book in a series- I felt like I was missing some things, but I was able to read it as a stand-alone. I found it to be slow at points where the exposition was a bit too drawn out.
There was something about the writing style that I struggled to latch onto, so while I could appreciate the concept, I couldn’t really enjoy the story.
I will try starting the series to play catch-up as I believe that will help.
I found this one very slow and hard going there is a brutal murder where a woman is stabbed watched by her daughter who is under the floor boards so Maddie has to find the murderer before the girl remembers what happened.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
Another book that I didn't realize was part of a series. When jumping into books that aren't the first in a series I feel lost and confused. Having "part of the Maddie Ives series," or "another Maddie Ives story," would have been helpful.
I did enjoy this book otherwise. The story was good, the characters were as good as they could be (for having met anyone of importance books ago), and there was a nice amount of suspense.
I will have to go back and read the rest of these books to see if I will recommend the series, but odds are I will.
This talented author has written a mystery that is intriguing. The characters are realistic. Red herrings abound…secrets also…discerning the ending is difficult, but it all comes to a resounding conclusion. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.
Once again a treat to read this eighth book in the Maddie Ives series.
It takes off right from the start and never lets up.
Maddie, Vince and her team are called to the scene of a home invasion, a double murder has taken place.
To make matters worse the discovery of the couples daughter, Jade, hidden under the floor boards but able to see exactly what happened to her parents.
In her traumatized state she can`t offer a lot of help so Maddie sets about looking for clues as to who is behind it
Only four days into the investigation and another two victims are found dead in similar circumstances.
Maddie needs to discover the link between the victims and quickly before anyone else dies.
A fast paced action packed thriller that is filled with twists and turns that kept me turning the pages.
Another excellent tale that I can easily recommend.
Thanks to Joffe books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in return for my honest opinion.
Two separate homes have been ransacked - only one thing connects the bodies: the very same weapon. At the first home, there was an additional complication - the daughter of the victim is under the floor, covered in her mother's blood and nailed in tight. A rare day off for ADI Maddie Ives turns into a horror show as her boyfriend is the first to find the girl, and only she can work out who committed the crimes.
This is another great book from Charlie Gallagher - I did feel it was a touch slow to begin with, and I guessed who would be responsible quite early in the book. A good book nevertheless, and a 4* rating.
I really enjoyed this latest instalment in the Maddie Ives series (although I don’t think you need to have read the other books in the series to read this one).
Along with the action packed police procedures to get the bad guys there is also an emotional roller coaster of emotions in part of the story that had tears in my eyes at times.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this e-book.
As part of a series ( unknown to me ), this can be read as a stand-alone. Detective Maddie Ives encounters murders like she has never seen before, and the presence of a blood-soaked child underneath the floor is a horrific scene, making this a case she must solve. With well developed characters and a fast-paced plot, this makes for great reading.
I really enjoyed this book and I had not read the other books in the series , I liked the storyline and the characters and now I want to read the other 7 books in the series. I loved how vulnerable the character Vince was , it’s not often a male is portrayed as a person with such intense emotions. The author did a great job keeping me invested. I hope there will be a next book in the series.
I voluntarily received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
I would recommend this book to friends , family and my book club.
This book is part of a series and I recommend reading the whole series to really understand the back stories and know the characters. I have not read the rest of the series and I often felt confused. I actually turned back twice to the start to make sure I hadn’t accidentally skipped the beginning chapters. It’s a solid police procedural that should be good for fans of the series.
I am loving this series, it gets better with every new book. A great story line with plenty of twists I was gripped till the end.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
gripping from the beginning and not stopping till the end
home invasion
murder
a young girl found under the floor boards traumatized after watching her mother being murdered above her
when the second home invasion is discovered maddie and her team are still looking for clues as to the who and the whys behind it all but is the person involved much closer than they think....
a compelling read even if its to find out who the perps are and why
Book 8 in a series but can be read as a stand alone. This was an excellent read with a great storyline that pulls you right in from the start. Full of action that keeps you guessing right to the end. A tough read at points as it gets quiet dark, you'll feel all the emotions reading this one.
The Girl Under the Floor is the eighth book in the Maddie Ives series.
This book is intense right off the bat. It involves the murder of a couple, and a young girl Vince finds under the floor who has witnessed the killers. Vince is struggling with his family issues and now add this to is too much for him. Maddie tries to comfort Vince, but she is called out to another murder.
In this case I think it is best to have started at the beginning of the series. There is so much that I didn't grasp that made it hard for me to follow. There are many characters who were not very likeable. For me, this book was a miss. I just couldn't follow all the twists and turns to the big reveal.
Detective Maddie Ives is back to investigate an unusual scene. A couple have been stabbed to death in a frenzied attack at their home, with their hand tied behind their backs. This is the second such scene in a few days.
Maddie needs to connect the two murders to solve the case.
Bit of a slow burner but with an intriguing outcome. Part of a series but can be read as a standalone book.
The story or rather stories are all interesting and the book is full of lots of great characters. There are a lot of sub plots and some unrelated on the whole to the main plot but I found this over complicated things. I love a complex tale usually but I found myself struggling with this one sometimes.
Nevertheless it’s a good book and worth a read.
