Holy cow, we’re at book sixteen in Krista Davis’ Domestic Diva series!! Sophie Winston and the gang are all back for this new adventure. This one has a main mystery to be solved, and several bonus mini ones along the way. Ms. Davis continues to gain momentum with this group of characters, which is rare and appreciated this far into a series.
I’ll keep plot points to myself, yet will divulge that I was delighted to see a new side of Officer Wong, and intrigued by the possibility of love on the horizon for Sophie.
Overall, a quick and fun read. Although this could certainly be read as a standalone, I enjoyed the fact that I’ve known these characters for so long. If this is your first, you’re so lucky that you have fifteen others waiting for you!
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington books for allowing access to a digital ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington for this ARC.
I love this series and could not put it down. Sophie is back and solving another murder. I did enjoy this book, but it felt like a different vibe for me. I could be wrong, but I felt that this one had too much detail about food and the deceptions of the homes, decorations and furniture. I found my eyes skimming these parts. The mystery was still interesting and kept me guessing.
An enjoyable addition to a great series, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Natasha has become more of a minor character while Sophie continues to shine. This book hints at rekindling of Sophie and Mars’ relationship- would we be so lucky?
I absolutely love this series since the beginning. And as soonbas I see one of these available for pre order I do so. However the publisher and NetGalley allowed me to read this even earlier. I love this!! Sophie is one of my all time favorites as a charactershe is perfect, but not too perfect. I have even made several of the recipes in the books. I love this series. Thank you!! Please keep them coming!!
I just reviewed The Diva Delivers on a Promise by Krista Davis. #TheDivaDeliversonaPromise #NetGalley
Sophie and Nina are definitely staying busy. I wonder if being strippers is going to become part of their careers.
Sophie and Nina are working to figure out who committed the murder but is it the murderer that asked them to find out who did it? Gerrie appears to have two different sides to her. Is she really that cunning?
There is a convention for Ghost Kitchens and Natasha gets involved in this one. Needless to say her creations for recipes has a lot to be desired. Natasha does a lot of whining as normal. Really how does she have the following with all of her bad advice? Needless to say with her being so clueless all of the time there is a lot of laughter.
Sophie and Nina in the meantime are finding all kind of characters to make a person want to run and hide. They continue on trying to seek out the truth. Between the laughter and scary moments this book is really a great page turner.
There is so much unexpected things that happen. You will be kept on your toes. If you have any problems keeping up with the characters and who did what you may need to keep the Cast of Characters close at hand. Once you get to the ending it will not be just a simple who done it. There is a lot happening in this book.
Not only will you enjoy the story but the recipes are awesome. I will be adding them to my recipe file.
I’m a big fan of this series. Unfortunately, this book fell a little flat for me. All my favorite characters showed up,but the plot didn’t. I could have done without the side mysteries and hopefully Sophie’s love life doesn’t go the way it seems to be heading. Please, Krista, a big NO!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for a copy of this digital ARC. All opinions are my own. This review can also be found on my Goodreads page.
This is my favorite cozy mystery series. The characters and setting are top notch. Every book gets better and better.
Sophie Winston lives in Old Town, Virginia, and is an event planner. She's doing her first ever ghost kitchen event -- where they only do delivery -- and everything seems to be running smoothly so far. She's also looking forward to the meeting of the members of A Healthy Meal, which is going to be held at society maven Geraldine Stansfield's home. She's longing to see the inside of the home for the first time. With everyone gathered, Sophie hears a scream, and it's discovered that there's a man in the dining room with a knife sticking out of his chest. After calling 911, it's found that no one seems to know who he was. Not even Gerrie. And no one knows how he got there. With rumors beginning to fly that Gerrie killed him, she asks Sophie's help in proving her innocence. What can Sophie do, but comply?
Now she's trying to figure out who wanted him dead, and why he was there. But when things start to get sticky, Sophie is drawn into an investigation of people not being where they're supposed to be, lies on top of lies, Gerrie avoiding questions all around, and even more intrigue and secrets. Suddenly she feels as if she's in a movie, and she can't figure out the ending...
This is the sixteenth book in the series, and it's a very good example of why Krista Davis is one of my favorite writers. In full disclosure, I hated the first book, but I have fallen in love with this series over time. Sophie is not only intelligent, she knows how to keep a secret, and she doesn't bail on either her friends or anyone she's trying to help.
What I really like is that she's learned to ignore Natasha and her dramatics. Natasha would wear anyone out. I'm just grateful I don't know anyone like her. While she's always trying to one-up Sophie, it's Sophie who always gains the upper hand, merely by being kinder and more understanding...and patient.
But it seems the killer is beginning to figure out what Sophie is doing, and has no intentions to let her win. Even if it means following her. Then there's the issue of a problem with the ghost kitchens, and between the two, it's taking up a lot of her time.
As the story progresses, we learn more about the Stansfields and their history, which surprises her. But even so, she's determined to help Gerrie, which isn't easy. When a near-tragedy occurs, Sophie will have to up her game and move faster to solve the murder.
In the end, when everything comes together, it was a surprise; but worth the read. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my review.
I’ve probably been reading the Domestic Diva series by Krista Davis for around 6 years, Sophie Winston and her friends have become staples in my life; I care about them as much as I do my real friends.
The Diva Delivers on a Promise is the 16th book in the series starring event planner and amateur sleuth Sophie Winston as she prepares for a convention highlighting Old Town Alexandria’s thriving ghost kitchen businesses.
Things immediately kick off when a body is discovered in the home of Geraldine Stansfield during a charity luncheon, one of Gerrie’s kitchen knives sticking out of his chest.
Sophie learns that the dead man, named Russ Everett, had been doing shady dealings around Old Town, confirmed by the enigmatic Officer Wong,
Things get crazy when Officer Wong’s ex husband shows up in town. This episode of Sophie’s life is just full of sleazy, scummy men; Eddie Wong is handsome and charming, but he’s a snake first and foremost, he sheds light on Russ while simultaneously accuses Gerrie and her family of being criminal kingpins, covering up murders and manipulating people.
Sophie has absolutely none of that, and manages to get close to the truth, surprisingly with very little help from Wolf and Wong at this point, when Eddie is also found murdered in Gerrie’s house, and Gerrie herself is found upstairs, overdosing in an apparent suicide attempt.
It’s really looking like Gerrie is the culprit now, but Sophie knows it’s never the most obvious suspect, so she digs a bit deeper and discovers it’s actually Gerrie’s son Todd’s girlfriend, Nicci, who was obsessed with being the matriarch of the Stansfield family, plotted to kill Russ and frame Gerrie, effectively paving the way for her to be the one true Mrs. Stansfield.
Overall, this is a fantastic chapter for Sophie.
This was another good entry in the Diva series. If you've read previous books you'll enjoy stepping back in to Old Town with Sophie and her friends. The mystery was fine, but I just love these characters so much. The food descriptions always make me hungry. I picked up my phone to look up the Laughing Hound menu before I realized it's fictional!
Not my favorite entry in the series. I like the mystery aspect, plus there were actually a couple of small side mysteries as well. The side mysteries help give a plausible reason for the plethora of characters in this one. Perhaps it the fact that there were so many and I had a hard time recalling who they were (like Alex).
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Sophie And Nina are headed to a luncheon for a charity at a Gerrie Stanfields house in Old Town. As they are walking they see Gerrie run past them. As they are headed into the dining room they hear another lady scream and see a man with a knife in his stomach. Gerrie asks Sophie to help find the killer and to tell her if it's one of her sons' first.
This was such an excellent mystery. It kept me guessing along the way. This is the 16th book in the series and my second. I'm enjoying getting to know the characters.
Sophie Winston is busy with her business and life in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. She and BFF Nina are attending a luncheon for one of their favorite charities at the home of Gloria Stansfield, a high profile neighbor. Everything is going well until someone screams at finding a body in the dinning room, which sets off the other attendees as well as Sophie and Nina’s sleuthing radars.
With Gloria being the main suspect, she asks Sophie and Nina to find the true murderer, Could Gloria have killed the man? Perhaps one of her sons? With a cast of suspects, known and unknown, Sophie and the gang have their work cut out for them.
Book sixteen in the series really does deliver, though the Diva is always a win in my book. I really like reading this series and find that there’s a little Diva in all of us. The recipes are delicious and I can’t get enough of Krista Davis’ work. If you haven’t read one of the Diva books yet, give it a try…you’re gonna love it!
This latest installment in the long-running Diva series is an enjoyable read, although I think the author is begs to drag Sophie’s personal life on in somewhat unrealistic ways. It doesn’t fully detract from the mystery, which is well-plotted and engaging, but I felt a little like the reader was just getting thrown a bone on Sophie’s relationships with no follow up in a way that didn’t feel true to life. I still enjoy the series but might stop reading for a while if nothing else changes. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is #16 in the Diva series and I honestly think it's the best so far. Sophie, Nina and Natasha along with many other recurring characters are given several challenges and not just murders to solve. The subject of ghost kitchens is one and it impacts Natasha. Then there are the two bodies on different days, no less, that Sophie's neighbor Gerrie finds in her house. Is the killer family, friend or other? No worries, Sophie, Nina, Wolf and Wong focus on each case and all questions are answered satisfactorily.
The settings of Sophie's house and Gerrie's house (and their neighborhood) had me wishing to win a big lottery. The friendship that holds all of the regular characters together is very special. Those are in every book of the series along with Daisy (dog) and Mochie (cat) and so much good food that I fear I might drool all over my Kindle. (glad it's waterproof) As soon as I can I'm going to try making one of the yummy recipes - Almost Healthy Pumpkin Spice Cake. Too bad I can't hang out in Sophie's kitchen to help her make it and add my meager two cents to trying to solve a crime or two.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was another fun cozy in the Domestic Diva series. Sophie and her friend Nina attend a lunch meeting at recently widowed, Gerry Stanfields house. Everything looks perfect, except for the dead man on the floor. Sophie and Nina do some sleuthing to ferret out the killer. This book had a solid plot, likeable characters, and lots of red herrings. Thank you netgalley and kensington books for providing me with an advance copy. I give this one 5 stars. Well done! ☆☆☆☆☆
I always love the Domestic Diva series, and this one did not disappoint. I’ve always liked the minor characters (Wolf, Alex, Humphrey, etc.), so I was glad that they were present and the awkwardness had passed. I thought I had guessed the killer early because I’ve read a lot of Davis’ books and thought I was wise to her. I was completely wrong! She kept me guessing, but also there were breadcrumbs throughout that made the ending feel earned, rather than out of nowhere.
This cozy series is impeccable. I'm immediately transported to Old Town Alexandria, where I actually used to live, but Davis has made that setting feel like a small town. I want to be friends with Sophie because anyone who stops by her house is given so much food and fancy drinks! This is the 16th in the series so start from the beginning. It would be difficult to read as a stand-alone, considering her friend group, but it could be done.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
The Domestic Diva series is one of my favorite!
Sophie and Natasha make this series believable, their odd friendship and competitiveness always making me laugh.
This story was well done and I had no idea what to expect from the reveal.
I think I'd enjoy meeting all the great people in this book, but maybe we could eliminate the whole discovery of a dead body!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.

Loved reading this book and author..1 of my favorite authors and series. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I suggest reading the books in order
