It has been a while since I finished the first book in the duology so I went into this one not remembering all the details but knowing that I enjoyed the first one. I also really love the covers and they look so nice together. I liked the story and it felt fitting to read this one the day after the American election and see that the main character in this book was fighting for the things that people today take for granted. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the romance in the book because I didn't want it to overshadow Hazel's progress as a physician. There was so much going on in this book I loved the royal aspect and how Hazel helped Charlotte, and the secret society full of famous names was neat. I also appreciated the exciting ending and how things were left open to my own interpretations of what came next.

This was a great wrap up to the duology! I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going in after living the first one, and really enjoyed it.

Anatomy: A Love Story was a favorite from 2022 and I wanted to see how Hazel's story ends. The story picks up pretty much after the end of Anatomy. Hazel is reeling from the loss of Jack and trying to focus on her goal of becoming a surgeon. She thinks she sees Jack everywhere, so she focuses on helping others and learning more about surgery. After she saves a young woman's life, she is arrested and assumes she will die in prison or at the end of a rope. However, she is saved and is requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte who is suffering from a mysterious illness. Hazel is eager to save the princess, but is not excited to become part of the royal court. She discovers a group of people who call themselves The Companions to the Death and while she was eager to leave the idea of immortality behind, she may once again find herself intertwined with Dr. Beecham's vial.
I really enjoyed this story. My favorite thing about the story is that Hazel continued to be a strong character and didn't let the loss of Jack destroy her. She continued to pursue her passion and wants to be more than what society demands she become. Her grief over the loss of Jack felt genuine and was beautifully written. The whole story was wonderfully detailed and I couldn't stop thinking about it after reading it. I enjoyed the addition of the Companions of Death and what they brought to the story.
I did, however, feel like something was missing from the story. I didn't love it as much as Anatomy, but I thought it was the perfect ending for Hazel. I would definitely recommend it.

I personally have mixed feelings on this duology. I love it because of the world and characters Dana has created keeps me intrigued enough. But I ultimately wanted more from her. More gothic horror to the love story, and I think the writer could have killed it. The entire time it was like she was tight rope walking that line, but made it more digestible for a wider audience. Don't get me wrong, if she decided to extend this series or come out with something new with a morbid twist, I will probably read it!
Also this series really does have some of my favorite cover art ever.

Both books in the duology read and I remain at a complete and utter loss as to why this is called "A Love Story" when that amounts to *maybe* 4% of this book ...

But enjoy it all the same, I did. It's such a smooth read that I practically inhaled the audiobook. I was a little worried going into this because I haven't read the first in the series since it came out, but I was pleased to find that I still remembered quite a bit and the book gave a great recap. Everything I loved about the first was in this sequel and honestly, I had a great time. Was it as good? No. Thus why my review is technically 4.5, but Dana Schwartz is still a fabulous author, either way. Hazel is a great character with so much ambitious and courage to do what society tells her not to, and I loved seeing her thrive and prove them wrong.

Please let the record show though, I think Hazel absolutely picked the wrong dude. That's all I'll say on the matter.

Hazel is simply the best. This fast-paced thrill was an epic follow up to Anatomy. I loved seeing Hazel truly thrive in her new areas of expertise.
The audiobook was a fantastic way to consume this novel!

Thank you to the publisher for the chance to listen to this in audiobook format. I very much enjoyed it.

This was a great conclusion to Anatomy. I really enjoyed following Hazel on her journey throughout this one. I was also happy with the ending for each character. The audio of this one was also very well done.

I enjoyed this follow up to Anatomy very much. I hadn’t read the first one so I devoured that and then moved seamlessly right into Immortality. (I’m so glad I didn’t have to wait!)
I adore any novel that can work in historical figures and Dana Schwartz has done that with such great spin here. I kept waiting to see who else was going to pop up.
The narration was delicious. As an American I just eat up any UK accent but I would seriously listen to Mhairi Morrison read me the sports ball page. The texture in her voice and the depth of emotion she gave to Hazel were impeccable.

Love the second book in this series! I found this book to be really engaging and I loved the premise. I'm a sucker for gothic romance, so this story was right up my alley. I am looking forward to reading other books by the author.

When we left Hazel, at the end of Anatomy: a Love Story, she had given Jack the vial of Beechum’s immortality tonic. Now a year later, she is alone, having been abandoned by her mother to take care of Hawthornden Castle. She is unsure if Jack is alive or dead, but spends her days, treating patients and writing her medical treatise.

After saving the life of one of her patients, Hazel is arrested. She seems doomed to rot in prison until the message arrives, requesting her to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte, the sickly granddaughter of King George the Third. Soon Hazel is ensconced in the royal court, where everyone has something to hide, especially the members of a social club, known as the Companions to the Death, which she is asked to join. Here she learns that Beechman is not the only immortal person in the world, in fact there is an entire society. As she works more within the British Court. She realizes that there is more to play in and that malicious forces are working against the monarchy.

As with the first book in the series, Dana Schwartz has created a world that is extremely believable. Her descriptions are vivid, and her characters have enough depth to make you feel like you know them. This book is a fantasy and adventure and romance all rolled into one. Somehow it is well-researched enough to make you feel as if you were in gritty England and yet it still has amazing magical aspects. It is amazing to me how many different genres she is able to seamlessly fit into one book.

While the plot of this book is a bit rougher than the first it is a must-read for anyone who enjoys historical fiction, realistic fantasy (is that a genre), and women who buck societal expectations to forge their own path. My only complaint is that it took way too long for Jack to reenter the story. Even though this is the last in this series I am looking forward to more by Dana Schwartz.

For me, it’s rare that a sequel simply lives up to its predecessor, and even rarer so for a sequel to be my favorite of a series. Like I was after Anatomy, I am entirely obsessed with Hazel Sinnett and could read many more books by Dana Schwartz with her as the protagonist, even if it was just a play-by-play of the rest of her life. I was genuinely surprised by the Jack reveal and was entertained by the Companions. I would die for Princess Charlotte and Eliza. I don’t /love/ a love triangle but if it there had to be one, I’m glad Simon was the third wheel lol overall very solid 4.75⭐️ read. The audiobook had the same narrators as the first book and I enjoyed their performance both times!

Short synopsis: Hazel Sinnet is continuing to on her studies to become a surgeon. When a woman comes to her after taking something to abort her baby, Hazel is taken to prison. On her execution day she’s saved by being taken to the Princess Charlotte of Wales to cure her of her unknown disease.

My thoughts: I’m glad I immediately picked this one up after reading Anatomy because I was so engrossed in the timeframe and the cliffhanger had me hanging.

I did a mix of audio and e-reading this one. The narrator did such a great job of bringing the characters to life and telling the story! I also thought having a separate narrator tell the news stories a fun addition.

I really loved how Hazel fought to defy the odds placed against her in becoming a female surgeon. It was enjoyable to see people come to respect and trust her opinions.

I really liked the way the ending played out, and without giving too much away I believe I love beyond life!

Read if you love:
* Strong female characters
* Overcoming odds
* Falling in love
* Love triangle
* Royalty and expectations

So... this book... I really wanted to like it. But I just didn't. The narration was great but the story didn't draw me in at all. It felt much slower than book 1. If you love that historical fiction feel, this book is one you may enjoy.

I loved Anatomy and love the continuation of Hazels story and the narration added so much to this story.

I loved this book. I read it all in one sitting, exactly like the first book. I loved the historical setting and that Princess Charlotte was featured. Bridgerton fans, if you want a different take on Princess Charlotte, definitely give this series a try!

I loved the marriage of science and alchemy in this story and was so glad to see that it stayed true to the first book. Mostly science but a touch of magic. I also loved the historical figures featured in the story.

I loved the narrator for this book. Once again, I believe that this is a case that the audiobook is better than the physical book. The narrator breathed so much life into the story and I loved that the accent matched where the MC was from.

I am a huge Dana Schwartz fan and will most definitely continue to read her books.
