This book tested my patience. Gavin’s MIL Karen was THE ACTUAL WORST.
Literally this entire book was about Gavin’s daughter Peyton. I have no issue with children in books, but in this case I felt like Harley and Gavin’s entire relationship revolved around Peyton and without her, they literally had no chemistry or anything in common besides wanting to be a part of Peyton’s life.
I feel like this author is such a hit or miss for me. I loved the ‘Pucked’ series and the spin off series, ‘All in.’
However the Spark House series has all been misses for me and some of this authors other stand alone books haven’t been winner for me either.
Thank you to publishers for an ARC.
I really adore the Spark sisters and I am sad this is the last book. I wouldn’t say Gavin is my favorite of the men in these books but I am not a parent so tried not to judge him too harshly. His MIL was a horror though.
A great addition to the series. Harley, the youngest Spark sister is all grown up and yet she is still the “baby” and feeling unheard by her sisters. While trying to figure out if and where she fits in after her pet project at work is cut she is has a chance meeting with her old boss/crush who has moved back to town with his daughter. They start out rekindling their sort of friendship and navigate the road to their HEA with a lot of bumps along the way. It’s a sweet, smart, funny and at times emotional road to them figuring it all out together. Great narration added to the experience.
Make a Wish is the third book in the Spark House trilogy from Helena Hunting. I have loved this whole series, and it has the most beautiful covers! This is another one that I'll be buying a physical copy for my shelves.
Harley is the youngest of the Spark sisters and has had the most difficulty finding her place at Spark House. She has long been drawn to working with children. But after getting too close to the father of the infant she nannied, she's no longer certain that child development is the right career path for her. Seven years after they moved away, Gavin and his daughter who Harley nannied for are back.
This is a mix of a second chance romance with an age gap. I really loved how Harley and Gavin could connect with each other through loss. He is finding his way as a parent and with changing his relationship with his former in-laws. And the age gap with Harley as the former nanny worked so well. They both handled perceptions of their relationship deftly. I was so impressed by the character development in the book.
I also loved seeing all of the other characters. We get great updates on the previous two stories and some fun cameos from the Mills brothers. Plus Peyton, Gavin's daughter, is such a sweetie. I also especially want to shout out Gavin's best friend, Ian. He gives the best advice and shows the kind of male friendship that we rarely get to read.
The audiobook had two narrators. Stella Bloom voiced all the characters well, but Jason Clarke did much better with male than with female or child voices. The audiobook was just under 10 hours long.
I'm so grateful for this spectacular conclusion to the series and so sad to see it end.
Thank you to the author, SMP Romance, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the advanced copy. These opinions are my own.
4.5 stars rounded up
4.5⭐ rounded up.
Book 3 in the Spark House series ~ fine as a standalone, but the whole series is great, so you might as well read em all in order.
Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, widower, single dad, friends to lovers, age gap (9 years), second chance at love, a little steamage
Harley & Gavin
UGH! I usually am not a fan of single parent books, but this is the second dad now that is maybe changing my mind. What a swoony father Gavin is. He's so attentive to Peyton, he's not afraid to put on a tutu and the fact that she is his world just screams from the pages.
Harley was so sweet and an all around lovely person. You can always count on her to be there when you need her. She was great with Peyton and their bond was adorable.
It was nice seeing how Avery & Declan and London & Jackson are getting on with their lives. Most characters were likable, except MIL the PILL. She put a damper on things that I didn't care for. Some of it was understandable after a little communication, but it went on a tad too long for my liking.
Overall, a delightful wrap up for all the Spark sisters. EEK with the epilogue ~ perfection!
I was fortunate enough to receive a kindle copy and the audiobook to review. Either format was perfectly fine.
Narrated by Jason Clarke and Stella Bloom for 9 hours and 54 minutes. They did a lovely job.
Make a Wish, the third book in the Spark Sisters trilogy, centers around Harley, Gavin, and Peyton. Peyton, Gavin’s daughter and the child Harley used to nanny, is a sweet, exuberant little girl who adores fairies, princesses, and glitter. She moves back home with her daddy, Gavin, and is reunited with Harley by chance at a birthday party. One thing leads to another and Harley begins spending time with Peyton, which also means she spends time with Gavin.
Gavin loves spending time with Harley and Peyton, but circumstances lead them to step away from each other when there doesn’t seem to be a way around them. Gavin wants what’s best for Peyton and Harley wants to be treated as an equal. Being second to a ghost is not the way she wants to have a relationship with Gavin, and even though she loves both Gavin and Peyton, she needs to do what is best for her heart.
I love how this book kept me engaged and wanting more until the very end. I also appreciate being able to see how Harley’s sisters, Avery and London, are doing and being able to hear about their relationships since we last saw them in their own respective books.
I was fortunate to review an advance copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this book and feel the emotion of each character through the narrator’s voice.
I love Helena Hunting's ability to interweave some humor in with a romantic storyline - even if their storyline isn't "funny", Harley and Gavin had some hilarious interactions throughout the story (especially the baboons. I laughed out loud).
The narration of this book was excellent! It really aligned with the emotions and what you would imagine the headspace of the characters to be.
Plus, it's really hard to hate a grown woman who wears a tutu willingly.
I love when characters from different books are connected, but the book stands wonderfully on its own too. This is an emotional, loving, and sweet story that had me hanging on to every chapter to see what happens next and that's not normal for this genre. Although the book seems like another romance, it is so much more than that and digs into deeper and sometimes painful topics. It handles them beautifully.
I absolutely Loved Harley and Gavin! This story which is a little second chance romance, a little nanny/single parent and a whole lot of emotion and heart had me completely captivated. I have been waiting for Harley's story, as she is the last of the Spark sisters. Something about this story spoke to my soul. I loved Harley's character, her love of children and her feelings for Gavin. This story is very emotional and deals with serious themes of loss, loss of parents, loss of a partner and traumatic birth (referenced not on page) I felt that these topics were handled delicately and realistically in a way that was so tangible for the characters and supported their development.
The villain through this story was a real Karen- literally. Gavin's mother in law, Karen, was a raging B, and she made me so angry through so much of this book. This story addresses a lot of family dynamics both with Gavin's family and Harley's family and how Harley fits in with Gavin and his daughter.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stella Bloom and Jason Clarke. They are always a stellar pair and this time was no different! I was only a little sad we didn't get more Jason chapters, but the majority of the book is told from Harley's POV. Moth did great character voices and kid voices which is not always easy to do.
I absolutely loved this story and recommend it in all formats
I received an ARC and ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.
I love everything about this book series and this book did not let me down.
Can I just say I loved that Gavin's mother in law's name was Karen because she truly was being a Karen. I get that her daughter died I really do but that does not give her any right for her to try and take over and parent Payton. Did i stand up and cheer when Gavin finally stood up to her... YES . Yes I did.
Now for Harley. I feel bad for her because she has not only put her life on hold for this business but she is constantly getting the short end of the stick. Every job they give her gets taken away as they expand, and everything that she comes up with gets taken away as well. It just made me want to give her a big hug and be er friend.
Was it slightly weird that Gavin fell for his former sitter... yes but did I care.. No.
It works with this story and as someone who has been a single parent finding someone who loves your child as much as you do and treats them with love and respect is a huge thing.
I am going to need Helena to continue this book series!
This was truly a delightful book. I purposefully avoided trying to guess the outcome, which was not really a certainty, and I was not disappointed. Helena Hunting is simply masterful in her exploration of relationships and
their complexities. I find it hard to articulate all of the emotions that ran through me as the relationship between Harley and Gavin took quite a bit to come to the lovely fruition. When you cannot read another suspense novel, pick up anything by this Author, and just be entertained.
This is a fun, flirty romance and a fab addition to the series. This book focuses on Harley who has always wished she could take back the moment where she almost kissed the single father of the baby she nannied for all those years ago. She believes that almost-kiss caused Gavin to move away with his daughter just days later. Now, eight years later, Gavin is back and the two quickly reconnect.
Harley is a lot of fun. She is upbeat and positive. I loved the energy she brought to the book and seeing her interact with Gavin and his daughter was sweet. I normally am not a fan of children in romances but Hunting is skilled enough to not make it too big of an issue. Gavin is that perfect blend of hot and responsible....everything you want in a single parent romance. The way they come to know one another again is well-handled as Gavin deals with his grief and managing the grief of his in-laws. I loved how Harley stands up for herself and is mature enough to actually communicate with Gavin about her wants and needs. The chemistry is great and I enjoyed getting to return to Spark House and Harley's sisters.
The audio is well done with a different narrator for both Harley and Gavin. The two voices really bring the alternating perspectives to life. I have enjoyed this series from Hunting and will continue to look for more from her in the future. If you are a fan of lighthearted romances with some steam, this book may be for you.
I’ve enjoyed this series so it was fun to go back and revisit these characters and see each of the sisters find their way.
Harley works with her sisters at their family owned inn, but she doesn’t feel like she’s found her “place”. They all know exactly what they’re doing and what their future holds with the inn, but since the birthday party venue is closing and that’s where Harley works she doesn’t really know what’s next. That is until she reunites with Gavin and Payton, his daughter that she used to nanny for when Payton was a baby and Gavin was a struggling single dad.
It’s a cute second chance romance and I liked seeing Harley’s personal growth and her sister’s learning to recognize her worth as well.
The narrator did a great job of differentiating the characters and keeping me entertained and engaged with the story throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audiobook arc in exchange for my review
This book was such a delightful end to the series. I wasn't sure what to expect, having always seen Harley a bit as a doormat for the rest of the series, content to allow her sister to dictate the company and even her own role in the expansion but Harley really came into her own as a character and shined. Gavin and his daughter were adorable, and I love a fluffy time jump epilogue. What more could I ask for?
I absolutely loved these narrators! Dual narrators are always my favorite but I really felt they brought out the true characters and I loved it.
Ahh I adored Harley so much and her love for all things glitter and fun. She was the sweetest with Peyton and just felt like the kindest human.
I loved that even though Gavin was 10 years older, Harley proved to be even more emotionally mature than him at time.
This story felt so real and raw and how I envision true struggles would be after losing your wife, the same day your child is born and the struggles that come with being a single dad, managing in laws, and work and life in general. I could feel Gavin’s grief and struggles but also could feel how much he truly saw Harley for who she was and adored her for it.
This story was angsty but also such a warm hug and I loved it. I loved the ending wrap up of all of the sisters and their families and also really adored Peyton and how stinkin cute she was.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I do believe Harley Spark is my favorite Spark sister.
The elder Spark sisters seem to have their roles at Spark House but it seems every time she turns around Harley is being reassigned or finding her projects shut down. During her last child party a random meeting occurs with Gavin and the child she used to nanny. The feelings she once had for him reignite and together they wade through their relationship and how it changes. Gavin is a single dad who still struggles with the sadness from the loss of his wife and how to balance a new relationship along with dealing with his in laws.
I loved seeing these two together and how they navigate everything together. They are so sweet together and the relationship between Harley and Peyton is wonderful. Make a Wish is the perfect ending to this series!
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this audio listen. It was excellent!
When Harley nearly kissed the widowed father, Gavin, of the toddler, Peyton, she nannies for, she is mortified... especially when they move across the state. Seven years later, she sees him again, and although the situation is awkward, she can't help but notice how sexy he still is...
This is book 3 in the Spark House series, but the first that I read. It can be read as a standalone, but I will definitely go back to the first 2 books as I love this author, and I loved this book! I listened to the audio book, and the narration was great, told in dual POV with two narrators. I loved the characters, especially Peyton and Harley, and their relationship. I didn't really like the final conflict, although I know it's necessary to the "good romance recipe", it felt forced, and it was heartbreaking! Otherwise, this is a great single dad/nanny, second chance, forbidden romance.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Helena Hunting does it again! A sweet love story. Harley loves kids and yet she feels like she is floundering in life. She loves Spark House and working with her sisters, but she doesn't really have a stake in it that's a part of her. She was a nanny for a sweet baby who lost her Mom and her sexy Dad decided to move her after she was 18 months old and Harley was crushed, but as she's running a birthday party at Spark House she sees the sexy Dad and Peyton again, after they've moved back to the area.
What happens next is lots of fun, glitter and a little bit of heartache.
Again, i didnt know that it was part of a trilogy... silly me.
I liked it. I liked it much better than the second one. My one big complaint/annoyance. The author depicted Payton as a 9 year old but she was behaving like a 5 year old. I was really annoyed with that.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was a cute single parent romance. Peyton really stole the show. Kids in books can be really hit or miss with me in that their personalities somehow seem too adult. This was not the case with Peyton, she really felt and acted her age in the book .
My one problem with this book and why I didn't love it was I felt the relationship between Hayley and Gavin was lacking. It almost felt that Gavin fell for her just because she was great with Peyton and not that she was amazing all on her own. I wish we could have seen more in his POV about that because it just seemed off.
