⭐️⭐️⭐⭐ Book Review
Make A Wish is the third and final novel in the Spark House trilogy. Although part of a series, this novel can be read as a standalone with very little to no confusion. However, I highly recommend reading the entire trilogy, you will not regret it! Make A Wish introduces us to the youngest sister, Harley Spark, and highly focuses on love, family, and second chances. We are introduced to Gavin Rhodes, a single father to 9 year old Peyton. Due to his circumstances this book gives us insight to dealing with loss and grief following a traumatic event, and finding love among all the hurt endured in life. This was such a beautifully written novel. I did find it slow to start at first (hence the 4 stars) and found myself putting it down and coming back to it frequently. Once I was able to get into the story I just could not put it down. Make a Wish was humorous and emotional allowing one to go from laughing, to crying, to laughing out loud once again. Overall I loved all the characters and the story line. I'm glad I gave this one a chance and will recommend it to all my book friends looking for a feel good story.
Make a Wish is the third book in the Spark House trilogy, featuring the youngest sister. Harley Spark has regrets in her life, one being misreading the signals from the widowed father of the toddler for which she nannied. Father and daughter left the state shortly thereafter, so it is a complete surprise when the now nine-year-old Peyton shows up at a Spark House birthday party event.
In seven years, a lot has changed. When Harley ends up falling into old patterns, will the connection to the past be a help or a hindrance?
When Sparks Fly, the first book in the series, was the best one for its quirky characters and story. Make a Wish was more of the same, with Harley being as uncertain and wishy-washy as her sisters. None of the three made their own decisions without major prompting, not wanting to rock the boat or compromise the sister bond. Between the prickly former mother-in-law and the indecisiveness of the main character, Make a Wish lost my interest early on in the novel.
The narrator does a good job of telling Harley's story, with good intonation and a flawless presentation. The pacing of the novel is good and the narration makes it a pleasant read.
Overall, readers of the series who want closure should read Make a Wish, though others might skip it all together.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Audio Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to listen to and review this book was entirely my own.
I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Personally I am always a fan of Helena Hunting. This is the third book in the story of the Spark sisters. This is an age gap, single dad, second chance romance. I am not always a fan of second chance romances because I often feel the reason behind needing a second chance is dumb and unreasonable and would just be solved by communicating with one another. On occasion there are stories where the reason is totally justified. In this case …. Minor spoilers?
Harley met her man at 19, he was a freshly widowed father and she was the nanny caring for his daughter, his wife having died in child birth - trigger warning.
After about a year living in his house, basically a part of the family Harley develops a crush and in a moment of exhausted vulnerability goes in for a kiss which he gently stops before it can happen because A. She’s 19, B. She’s the nanny, C. Widowed. As if that wasn’t awkward enough the same night the baby calls for Harley and calls her Mama. Uh oh.
Not long after this he and his daughter move to be closer to his wife’s parents so they can be involved. They move back home years later so he can take over as lead in the family business.
My one true complaint is that after they cross paths they begin hanging out (all three of them) because with the move “Harley is a familiar presence” this is said repeatedly. My feelings are, uh no she’s not. That kid does not remember her. She’s seen pictures of her in her baby book sure, but it’s not like she consciously missed Harley over the years. I find this statement to be absurd. Better reasoning could be - Harley deserves to know how the child she spent so much time caring for has turned out. Being a mom myself my oldest spent two years at an in home daycare being doted on as the only baby for a year. His sitter held him during nap time when he was teething or had an ear infection. He in no way remembers her at all but I am always happy to let her know anything about how he is now because she had such an integral role in his early life.
Another fair reason is they don’t know a ton of people and they do know that she is both trustworthy and genuinely likes kids. Also dad has the hots for her and the three original roadblocks have been removed by the passage of time.
As always the narration is great. Honestly all of Helena Huntings audiobooks have fantastic narrators. If you like a contemporary rom com with some angst thrown in this is a great book. 5/5
MAKE A WISH is the third book in the Spark House series and I loved it! While it’s part of a series, it can also be read as a stand-alone.
I really enjoyed the friends to lovers trope and the small age gap trope.
The audiobook and physical book were fun to read together, and I thought the narrator did a great job.
*many thanks to St Martins Press and Macmillan Audio for the gifted copy for review
I really enjoyed this touching, sweet, and steamy second chance romance . The narration was amazing and the story heartwarming. I adored Harley, Gavin and Payton!
Make a Wish by Helena Hunting
Love the Spark House Series
This was an adorable story. Harley got on my nerves when she didn’t standup for herself in regards to the business with her sisters but it worked out in the end.
This story seemed like it could really happen in real life. Hate this is the last book in the series
We love a nanny/single dad romance! Combine it with a second-chance romance and I was completely hooked. I have not read the first two books in this series, but after listening to this audiobook I'm 100% going back and diving in to the books one and two! Helena Hunting is the master of humor, emotion and romance and I adored this story.
Seven years after Harley almost kissed the widower she was nannying for, the dad and daughter walk into the princess themed birthday party she is throwing at her family’s event space. When Gavin and Peyton suggest getting together, Harley doesn’t know how to feel about this second chance.
This was cute ending to the Spark House trilogy. I wasn’t my favorite of the three, but I love any Helena Hunting book.
This might be my least favorite Spark House novel. I didn't actively dislike it or hate it, but it felt a little less fleshed out than the first two. I enjoyed the relationships between all of the main characters, but it felt like every tertiary character was just... not really there for any reason but to make our MC feel things.
I couldn’t get into this one after 10%, sometimes romances involving children isn’t for me and this was one of them.
First of all, I want to thank @netgalley and @helenahunting for this free egalley!
This was the story of Harley Spark and Gavin Rhodes and their journey. Harley first came into Gavin's life after his wife tragically died during childbirth. Harley became the live-in nanny for Gavin and his daughter Peyton. Taking care of a toddler and a grieving single dad, Harley quickly became an integral part of their world. So when Harley almost kissed Gavin one night and he moved away quickly after that, it left her devastated.
Jump ahead seven years, and Harley is now in her late twenties and working with her sisters at Spark House, an event hotel. So you can imagine her surprise when, while hosting a child's birthday party, one of the guests ends up being Peyton and her dad Gavin. Harley quickly finds out that they have moved back to town. While she is elated to see Peyton again, her heart also latches onto Gavin. The feelings that were there so many years ago quickly come back. Can Harley be in their lives without getting hurt...again?
This story was super cute. Although this story can be viewed as a romance, I actually enjoyed all of the female relationships bests. Harley and Peyton's relationship is adorable. I loved how much Harley genuinely loved spending time with Peyton. I also loved the relationship between Harley and her sisters. Their bond seemed unbreakable, which makes sense after all they have been through. I even enjoyed the tense relationship between Harley and Gavin's mother-in-law.
I found myself excited to keep hearing more and more of this story! Highly recommend! ❤️ 📚
I didn't like this book. Most of the story revolves around Harley taking care of Peyton( a 9 year old girl who she nannied for in the past). Gavin is a jerk. When Harley and Gavin are together there is little chemistry or romance.
I’m a big fan of Helena Hunting and I enjoyed the other two Spark sisters books. This story was sweet. I didn’t mind the hero and heroine age difference terribly, but the author could have condensed it a bit and still had an effective story. Still it delivered all I look for in a romance.
This is the third and final story of the Spark sisters. I enjoyed all three novels and this one is about the youngest sister, Harley. Harley has reunited with a single father she once worked for as a babysitter for his daughter, Peyton, when she was a teenager. Now all grown up and working for the family business, Spark House, Harley struggles with finding balance and happiness with her career, family and now her romance with this handsome father, Gavin. The chemistry between Harley and Gavin is sweet, but young nine year old Peyton takes the show. She is cute, spunky and very likable.
I recommend reading this story as well as the other two books as they are light hearted and fun to read. You could read them out of order if needed.
The audiobook was also well done.
I flew through this book. I really enjoyed the storyline and characters. I didn’t realize this was part of a series, though the books can be read as a standalone. I’m going to be checking out more books by Hunting in the near future!
I enjoyed the narrators of this audio. I like when there are multiple narrators. I was nervous about how the story would go as it opened when Harley was 20. The premise of nanny and single dad made me a little uncomfortable. As a mom of three girls, the character of Peyton felt younger than her 9 years. This book was just okay for me. I didn’t love any of the characters and found myself rolling my eyes at Harley more than a couple times.
Oh. My. Goodness. Make a Wish was such a cute read! I fell in love with the Spark sisters all over again. I read Book #1 of the Spark House series, When Sparks Fly back in 2021, so when I saw book 3 was available as an audiobook on NetGalley, I jumped on it.
This was such a sweet and steamy read about love and second chances. I wanted Harley and Gavin to get together, and my heart hurt when they broke up.
I really enjoyed the narrators for the audiobook - I tend to have a difficult time with masculine voices but Jason Clare, who narrated Gavin’s chapters, was easy to listen to hear and understand; and Stella Bloom was a lovely voice to.
While this is book 3 of the Spark House series, they can be read as standalones. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the review copy of Make a Wish.

Big fan of Helena Hunting books, my all time favourite being Kiss My Cupcake. This one was cute too, didn’t love the narrators voice, especially reading for the male lead but grateful for the chance to read early.
I enjoyed the conclusion of this series. Harley’s story was emotional, especially as she rides the waves of Gavin’s conflicted emotions and is supportive of him in the face of his intrusive late wife’s mother’s meddling in his life. Peyton is absolutely adorable and I enjoyed reading Harley’s character arc.
I enjoyed hearing the narration by Jason Clarke and Stella Bloom as their ability to pull the listener into the story was done well.
After enjoying Helena Hunting's Starry-Eyed Love last year, narrated by the same couple, this story of Harley Spark, London Spark's sister from Starry-Eyed Love, was a great continuation to the story of the Spark family!
This was a fun, forbidden love, second chance romance. I enjoyed the character development and working through very relatable challenges. I think this one was even better than Starry-Eyed Love!
