Sadly, this book met a downfall for me and I was unable to finish the third book. I had high hopes for this one, LOVING, the third story and the single dad trope. I was disappointed to listen to animals in heat at the zoo and instantly couldn't finish.
This book was SOOO GOOD! The only thing I’d change is how they made the little girl seem ALOT younger than 9. She was written to be like a 3-4 year old. The ending was so presh! Thanks to publishing and Netgalley for letting me listen and review
4 STARS!
I absolutely adored this book. I listened to the audiobook version, and I was swept up in the story. Both narrators did an amazing job of conveying all of the emotions between the two characters, and I loved the dual point of view.
This is the third book in the Spark House book series, but I hadn't read the other two books. (I just added both books to my list to pickup from my local library!). Each book focuses on one of the Spark sisters, and this book focused on Harley. The prologue begins with Harley as a 20 year old nanny working for a single dad who lost his wife during childbirth. Harley tries to help Gavin raise his daughter, Peyton, and she is a part of their lives until Peyton is 18 months old. One night, the lines start to blurry, and Harley tries to kiss Gavin. After that night, Gavin and Peyton move away, and they don't talk to Harley again for 7 years. Harley is left to pickup the pieces and deal with her guilt over that night, and she is shocked to see Gavin all of those years later.
Gavin and Peyton come to a birthday party that Harley is putting on at her family's event hotel business called Spark House. Harley thought that she had put all of the pain in the past, but she realizes that it is all still there for her when she sees Gavin and Peyton. Gavin and Peyton invite Harley to have lunch with them, and this starts a regular schedule of Harley interacting with Gavin and Peyton. She is texting with Gavin, and they meet up at the playground and Harley even picks up Peyton from school.
Harley has a boyfriend though, and when Gavin meets him, he is full of jealousy! Harley begins to realize that her feelings for Gavin are still there, and Gavin begins to see that maybe he feels more than friendship with Harley.
I loved the dual point of view in this book because it really gave insight into how Harley and Gavin were processing their unique feelings and challenges. Each of them had things that they needed to work on before they could begin a relationship.
I also loved the character of Peyton. She was the youngest character in the book, but in some ways, she proved to be the most insightful character.
I teared up several times in this book, and it really tugged at my heartstrings. I loved it so much, and I would definitely recommend it!
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillian Audio for an ARC of this audiobook.
The audio of MAKE A WISH was well done! I enjoyed both narrators. No complaints.
The book itself just did not work for me. I found both main characters to be extremely unlikable.
This also did not read like a love story to me. Their was no romance. Just two people who are attracted to each other and a lot of drama as they speak independently to everyone else in their lives about their relationship. They hang out a lot (always WITH HIS KID), while she has a boyfriend, and then go on one (just ONE) date after she breaks up with that boyfriend. That is the entire "falling in love" portion of MAKE A WISH.
MAKE A WISH had good family relationships and dealt well with the topic of grief, but that was all I ended up liking about it.
A heartfelt, single Dad/widower x Nanny, second chance, dual POV romance that gave me ALL the feels!!! I loved these characters and seeing them find their way back to one another after several obstacles made me SOOOO happy!
The mental health/therapy rep in this book was excellent too and I really appreciate reading a romance where the male MC acknowledges his need to take care of his mental health!! Great on audio and possibly my favorite of the series! Much thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!!
Guys. I rarely give 5 stars anymore but this one gets them. This is a sweet love story that gave me all the feels. It’s exactly what I was looking for. It’s an easy read. Nothing too angsty. It has a tiny bit of spice but not much. It’s definitely not the focus of the story. Totally recommend.
