I love this series and of course, it's left wide open for number four, and I'm here for it! Finlay Donovan is on the wrong side of the mobsters again and with her kooky gang is able to solve the mystery with lots of laughs and banter along the way.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Elle Cosimano does it again. Funny, Witty Finlay And Vero are two of my favorite characters in mystery. Sex isn’t over the top, Can’t wait for the next book .
This is now my comfort series! I absolutely loved and enjoyed the previous two books and the third was no difference five stars!I love Finlay as a character I love how she handles all situations being a single mom.Best cozy murder mystery series I ever read. I hope to see more of Finlay.
Wow! How does the narrator make each character sound so unique! This was a laugh out loud, people are staring at me type listen. The narrator was amazing. Story was okay but the narrator kept me listening more than the storyline. Thank you for the copy.
Finlay and Vero are back with more edge of the seat antics involving Russian mobsters, Atlantic City loan sharks, two exes, more betrayal, and then there is Nick, so near, yet so far. Elle Cosimano has one twisted imagination that translates into a wild ride, crackerjack dialogue, and plenty of laughs for her readers. Be sure to start at the beginning with this series. Trust me. You will appreciate the advice.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun picks up where book number 2 left off. It took me a few minutes to remember what was happening, but once I did, I jumped right back into the story and loved it as much as I loved the first two.
Finlay and Vero are a dynamic pair. Their strengths and weaknesses balance each other.
It's fun to follow the shenanigans and suspenseful journey.
Also, the narrator of the audiobook continues to knock it out of the park.
Thank you so much to St. Martins Press, Minotaur Books, NetGalley, and Elle Cosimano for the review copies I received!! (Audio, e-copy, and print copy)
I have been a fan of Finlay and Vero from the very start. The first book in this series was one of my all time favorite reads of 2021 and each of the books have been just as much fun to read ever since.
This is book 3 in the series, and so I suggest going back to book one before reading this one and my review! This book follows Finlay and Vero on their quest to find out who EasyClean is. The story picks up right where the 2nd book left off and gets right into the search. They suspect that EasyClean is a cop, so when the opportunity arises to attend a cop camp for a week with Georgia, Nick, and their colleagues, of course they accept.
Having read the first two books, I can confidently say that this book has just as many Finlay and Vero adventures and did not disappoint in the friendship content. I did feel at times that this book had a lot of filler in it, but the plot lead up to a big twisty ending, and a classic Finlay/Elle cliff hanger. Overall I really enjoyed it, and I just love hoe unique the story is. Finlay has always been such a relatable character, despite everything she gets herself into. It always makes for a fun read with many laugh out loud moments. I will always recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun new series!
I love the Finlay Donovan series -it’s so ridiculous, over the top, & fun! I was so excited when I was sent an ARC of the newest installment, Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun! I pretty much dropped all of my reading plans to binge this one back in November and I don’t regret it.
Finlay is back & while I thought the second book was a little tooo ridiculous, this one toned it back the perfect amount. After the events of the second book, Finlay finds herself with an impossible task. With the Russian mob watching her every move, Donovan is attempting to hunt down a contract killer. But the task is almost impossible especially since she suspects it might just be a cop.
I loved the setting of this installment. A citizen’s police academy, where Finlay and Vero learn how to use guns and get into all sorts of mischief is my idea of a fun read. I love that we got a bit more romance this go around as well, and finally we get movement on the one relationship I know we’ve all been waiting for!
This was the first book that made me really question who Vero is and while I like her, she seemed way shadier this go around. I’m anxious to see what the next book will entail as this story set us up nicely to dive more into Vero’s story next.
These books are so outlandish and just plain fun. If you like stories about women who can’t stay out of trouble or you need a good laugh, you have to pick this one up! Also the audio books are super fun to listen too as well!
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun comes out January 31, 2023. Huge thank you to Minotaur Books for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. If you liked this review please let me know either by commenting below or by visiting my instagram @speakingof.books.
A fantastic addition to this fun series! In Finlay Donovation Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano we’re immediately thrust back into Finlay and Vero's vivid, precarious world. I love the snark and light-hearted tone of this series and found this to be just as enjoyable as the two previous books. Though some of the antics are a little far-fetched, it's such a fun ride with action, mystery, and romance. The action and characters keep me intrigued as I listen. Angela Dawe is a pitch-perfect narrator for Finlay and other characters. The audiobooks for this series are so fun!
Thank you Minotaur Books / Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for providing this ebook / audiobook ARC. All thoughts are my own.
Well. I really liked the first book but this series seems to be getting more and more silly and less interesting. I’m still invested in knowing how it ends but was pretty bugged that it’s clearly not a trilogy.
In this one the ladies are still at it trying to find Easy Clean for the mob guy to get off their backs and somehow end up at a cop academy for regular people…? The thing that bugged me the most were all the side comments and openly talking about the crimes they have committed… with cops roaming around. I do like Finlay and Vero’s dynamic and will definitely continue to see what other shenanigans they get up to, I just hope they will learn and behave a little more intelligently as the series progresses.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced listening copy.
This series goes farther into the camp-factor with each installment. I love the conceit of a romantic suspense author being trapped in a romantic suspense story, using her current circumstance to write her romantic suspense novel, and the ties between the side characters that becomes more absurd with each story. I'll keep coming back to see how Finlay is able to eventually get herself out of this mess, and how Vero's past indiscretions get resolved.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third book in the Finlay Donovan series.
This time, Finlay and Vero are off to a community police academy for a week - Finlay to hopefully determine who the dirty cop is and Vero to hide from someone in her past.
While I didn’t like it as much as the first two, I did enjoy. This installment gets off to a slower start than the previous two, and when there finally is some action it all seems to come at once.
This book did leave you with a set up to a fourth book. I will say that you do need to read these books in order as the cases build on one another.
Thank you to the publisher and author for the advanced audio and ebook copies in exchange for my honest review. Once again, the audio is wonderful.
This is one of those books where you are really sad it ended and already looking for the next book. I love the two main characters and the ridiculous situations they end up in. I love the humor in the book and the sass. The whole series is great. I also really enjoy listening to the audio version. The narrator does a fantastic job.
✨Book Review✨
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
.
Well, this series had a good run. I loved books one and two, but book three was not my favorite. It was way too heavy on the police presence for my liking. Also, the antics of Finlay and Vero just got a little old. This was still mildly entertaining, but probably would have been better if I had the first two books fresh in my mind.
.
I think I would recommend waiting to start this series until all of the books are out. This one left off on a cliffhanger again, but I know I won't remember it by the time I read the next book. Since these books tend to pick up where the previous one started, I would recommend reading them together as one long book. I might read book four whenever it comes out, but I'm really not sure at this point.
.
I did listen to the audio again and really enjoy the narrator. I would definitely recommend the audio.
The best way to read this series is audiobook. This narrator is simply the best so I was glad to receive and ARC of the audiobook version of this 3rd installment in the Finlay Donovan books. Vero is still my favorite character and the comedy between her and the main character make the book a fun ride. I wish that there was a new mystery component to this book. I felt like it was a drawn out continuation of the 2nd book's plot. This didn't take from my overall enjoyment of the book and I still definitely recommend this series to those who like a good mystery but like to laugh along the way. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
4/5 Stars
A fun read, Fin is such a relatable character even if she somehow keeps finding herself in the most outrageous situations. This book kept me laughing and guessing as much as the first 2, can not wait for the next book.
I love this series, Elle Cosimano's writing is so fun. I did give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because it was a tiny bit repetitive at times, leaning on the same story lines as in the other books, but I still loved it. Vero is back and funny as ever, and Finlay and Nicks relationship is finally starting to heat up. I think this book set up the next book extremely well and i'm excited to see Finlay and Vero take on Atlantic City.
This continues to be such a fun and clever series.
The third installment in the Finlay Donovan series is as fun as the first two, and I continue to be impressed with Elle Cosimano’s ability to move the plot along without becoming repetitive, a common problem to series like this.
I always want these to be just a little funnier than they are, but the humor that is there is good, and the plots are clever and sharp.
Finlay and Vero just having adventures would probably be enough to keep me reading, but we also get a surprising amount of character building for both, another unusual element for this type of book.
This is an excellent pick for audiobook format, and the narrator does a lovely job.
This one has a terrific contained plot as well as more progress in the larger story that has threaded through the series, and a fun twist at the end that has me already eager for the next installment.
Oh, and I absolutely LOVE Wade.
Finlay and Vero are my favorite female duo! The newest in the Finlay Donovan series, Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is just as hilarious and action packed as the first two books. Seriously, this book made me laugh out loud in parts. Vero's one-liners make her easily my favorite supporting character (I think ever-however, Riley from National Treasure may be a close second).
As part of their investigation into their enemy, "Easy Clean," Finlay and Vero end up participating in a citizens police academy. With police officer's everywhere including Finlay's hot cop Nick, can the duo keep their illegal activities under wraps? Situational hilarity ensues and you just never know what is going to happen in this fast-paced humorous mystery novel. I want to classify it as a thriller, but its also was more funny than any thriller, so maybe "rom-com cozy mystery where people get chopped up" if I have to put a label on it.
While I think it helps immensely if you have read the first two books in getting a feel for the relationships among the characters right away, I feel like you could read this as a stand alone novel. However, I think if you do pick this book up first you will definitely be sad you missed the other two and go back to read them.
My favorite part of the ending...I know we get another Finlay Donovan novel :)
3.5
I do feel like the series might have been better served as just book 1, but it is still an enjoyable story and characters. I love the way the author uses humor in these stories. I’m normally not a fan of murder mystery type books but I do enjoy these. This one didn’t feel like it progressed the story as much as I had hoped and felt a little pointless to me. But I’m eager to see what book 4 is like. I love the narrator on these books though. She does a wonderful job!
