I received both the audiobook and ebook for review.
As always Finlay and Vero are very entertaining. It was the first time listening to the audiobook and was exactly what I hoped it would be, a fast and entertaining read.
The audio was excellent. The voices were on par with what I imagined and matched the characters perfectly.
And I can't wait to read more.
At the end of each book I always want to know what will happen next. These books are so addicting and so much fun. All the shenanigans. And the possible romance. The amazing friendship between Finlay and Vero - really love their unwavering support of each other. And of course all the side characters I've come to love.
A really great third book, hope many more are to come.
What a great addition to this series!
We pick up where we left off in book two. Finlay is such a likable character and it starts to feel like that friend that just keeps stumbling into terrible situations no matter how hard she wants to get out of them. This book is witty, thrilling, and kept me guessing.
In this story we begin to hear a little more about Vero which I really like. We know a bit about her past but she becomes more of a mystery while we learn more about her. I enjoy the dynamic between them and think their friendship really makes you root for them as partners. They are opposites but they stick by each others sides. The relationship with the cop gets more developed as well which I really like. I want him to know what happened and I want him to not care because of how much he likes her because you can tell he really does.
Overall, I really continued this book. I would recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a light-hearted thriller. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story!
Another fun read about Finlay Donovan and all of the people in her world! I love these books and really enjoyed the story. I know I"m in the minority but I did not love the narrator's voice, I found it distracting.
Finlay and Vero are such fun characters who balance each other so well, and they are always captivating to read about. They get into so many funny situations and I like to read how they get themselves out of them. In this one Finlay is still trying to figure out how she could move forward with Nick the police detective, her ex husband Steven is the usual fly in the ointment, who wants to reconcile, but can’t be trusted to even spend a week with his children. All this is happening while she’s trying to get herself out of trouble with a mobster and Vero with a loan shark. Keep the stories coming about Finlay and her quirky peeps!
The third installment of this series is just as fun and funny as its predecessors. It's the Stephanie Plum series meets Netflix's Dead To Me: a little dark but a lot of fun, with a sprinkle of mystery and romance. An easy and fun, quick listen; narration was spot on!
Thanks to Netgalley for the audiobook and Advance Reader copy of this book. Finlay has become one of my favorite series and this one left me with a cliffhanger ending.
I LOVE the Finlay Donovan series. It’s the perfect combo of mystery, humor and suspense. If you are interested in this series just do yourself a favor and listen to this story. Once you listen to the audio reader it’s so hard to go back to the written form for this series. She brings so much life to Elle Cosimano’s writing. HIGHLY recommend.
I love this series by Elle Cosimano. I love the friendship between Vero and Finlay. While they sometimes find themselves in over-the-top situations, it's still hilarious.
Finlay's internal comments about her kids are also so relatable. I am already impatiently waiting for the next installment 😂😂
Oh how I had wanted to love this book as much as I loved the first one. After enduring this one, I found that the best part of this book was the opening scene and Nick. That’s it, that's all friends. The storyline just felt a little forced to me.
While there were definitely some moments that had me laughing out loud, like the opening scene and some of the things that took place at the police academy. But other than those moments, the book just seemed a little weird. There were a lot of people involved in the crimes that surrounded Finlay and Vero, and a few sections of the story that didn’t make a ton of sense.
I really enjoy Elle Cosimano’s humor and was looking forward to more hilarious moments between Finlay and those around her, but there weren't a ton of them. I will always love Nick and he honestly saved the story for me. What can I say about a man in uniform??? ;)
Overall, this story seemed like it would have been a good time to end the Finlay Donovan series, but it was set up to have a fourth book follow it and I think that disappointed me the most out of everything that happened in this book. If you really love this series, you’ll probably like this one but not love it.
⚠️TW: gun violence, murder, fire/fire injury, blood, sexual violence, violence, body shaming
Thank you @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review! All of the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me an early audiobook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun installment however it does get tiring to see how many of these lucky and terrible situations Finlay will get into. I wonder what happened to the person in the end.
One good thing is that Finlay has chosen who she wants to be with truly and that made me happy.
The little twists in the book were fairly fun, but I wonder how much longer these twists can keep going without being too boring.
I am a romance reader through and through, but, wow do I love the Finlay Donovan series. It’s hard to write a review for this book without giving away spoilers, but we do pick up where book two left off and Finlay Donovan and her nanny/accountant/sidekick Vero are still tied up with & in debt to several criminal rings, including Feliks Zhirov and his Russian mob. This book had twists, turns, hilarity, sizzle, and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last word (and cliffhanger!).
Now, I know you’re probably thinking, we get it Christina, you love audiobooks. BUT HEAR ME OUT - you must listen to the Finlay Donovan books on audio. Like, it’s a requirement. Angela Dawe is the perfect narrator for Finlay, and really brings to life the cast of characters in each book, including this installment. It’s an audiobook that makes me literally forget I’m driving (safety first?) and where I sit in my car when I’m at my destination to finish one more chapter.
Unlike other series of standalones, Finlay Donovan is best read (:cough: LISTENED TO :cough:) in order. Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur Books, and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copies.
So funny so good! Just as good as the first 2. Highly recommend but you gotta start with the first. Love finlay and vera!
Elle Cosimano did it again!
I laughed so much with this book, the stakes were high, the mystery kept be captivated and I didn’t piece things together before the characters which it’s always a plus in my book!
I can’t believe this book hasn’t been out yet and I already need book 4 in my hands!!!
This book truly had everything that makes Finlay Donovan a hit, but in a refreshing new (but also familiar) way.
I am still team lawyer but I can accept my team lost and Nick is a good romantic interest.
The narrator as amazing as always. I love the voices for the different characters and how distinguishable they are!
I really enjoyed this entry in the Finlay Donovan series. Maybe, a bit more than the last one. It was funny, mysterious, and kind of sexy. The main setting within a pseudo-police academy was rather unique, as well.
My one and biggest gripe came at the end. This book didn't have a clear and satisfying ending. While there were some continuous threads throughout the series that you find in many cozy mysteries, book three didn't even wrap up any minor threads, unless you count Nick and Finlay's sort-of relationship. I'm okay with an open thread or two, but give me a small bit of closure, at least. 4/5 stars after subtracting one for that all-encompassing cliffhanger.
Notes on the audio:
Strong audio narration. I love when a narrator captures the voices and inflections, male and female, without making me cringe. Angela Dawe nailed it.
Stupidly enjoyable. My ultimate guilty pleasure series. Elle Cosimano could write 20 more Finlay Donovan books and I'd read every single one.
Like #1 and #2, book #3 was fast-paced and fun. I loved seeing Finlay and Vero's relationship develop; however, I wish it would have extended beyond the narrative established in book #2.
The only series where I will tolerate consistently absurd and far-fetched scenarioes.
Another winner in the Finlay Donovan series!! These books are a such an escape and make me so happy! Unrealistic? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. Finlay and Vero are just truly such love able and hilarious characters - I cannot get enough of them! These books are perfect for my romance readers who might want to dabble in the mystery genre!
What to except::
•More murder for hire
•Crazy antics
•Whodunnit
•Hot cop Nick
•A side of love with closed door steam
•Cozy mystery vibes, but crazier
🎧Perfect on audio! This is one of my absolute fave audio series! 5⭐️ performance!
This fun crew is back at it again in Finlay Donovan Jumps The Gun! I just love this cast so gosh darn much. Finlay is strong and determined, Vero is witty and resourceful, Nick is dreamy and protective, the kids are spot on and hilarious, Georgia is bad ass with a hidden soft spot. Steven is still a piece of work, but that’s okay.
In this third book, Finlay and Vero attend a police academy to find out who EasyClean could be to pay up the debt they owe to the Russian mob. I found the police academy school a little drawn out and fillerish at times… but when shit hit the fan let me tell you it HIT THE FAN. Book three featured the absuloute ridiculous and over the top antics that I found absolutely hilarious in the first book. The witty yet clever banter between characters made me laugh out loud and the cliff hanger at the end!?!?!?! Ahhh I already can’t wait for more Finlay & Co.
P.S. Angela Dawe is fucking incredible at narrating this series. The way she was able to create distinct voices for different characters and put so much emotion in everything they are saying made for such an entertaining audiobook. I recall one line (I actually think it might have been in the second book, but that irrelevant) where something in the dialogue was said “around a bite of a sandwich” and her mouth actually sounded full as she said it. I laughed so hard and it made me look for more books read by her!!
EVERYTHING about this book was five stars. The narration and the story itself. It would be an understatement to say that I am obsessed with this series, and that I’ve grown to love Finlay Donovan. This ended with a few consecutive twists that made me gasp, and like always, I laughed out loud a million times. The narrator perfectly portrayed each character.
I am a huge fan of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books, so it is entirely unsurprising how much I absolutely adored my first Finlay Donovan. Despite reading this totally out of order, with this third book being my first, I fell right into Fin and Vero's friendship and antics.
Fin and Vero are just two ordinary women trying so desperately to stay on the straight and narrow and failing at every turn. From relatable toddler mom moments (I mean who's kid hasn't run into a public restroom and crawled under stalls), to laugh out loud shenanigans, this book as so so good.
I would be remiss to point how how absolutely fantastic the narration is as well. The voice for Vero was so perfect, it made her side comments all the more hilarious. With wisps of romance, deluge of antics, and an all around hilarious time, the Finlay Donovan series, this one especially, is a great read!
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- listened on audio 🎧- I love this series! So fun to listen to on audio! This is book #3 in the series (you will need to read/listen in order). Finlay and Vero continue their search for “Easy Clean” while spending a week at the citizen’s police training camp. Murder mystery, comedy, romance it has it all. Finlay and Vero give me Lucy and Ethel vibes. Of course this one ends on a cliffhanger, patiently waiting for the next book!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
This is the third installment of the Finlay series and I really enjoyed this one!!
Finlay is an author who is struggling to get a draft of her next book in and is also the single mom of two young kids.
Finlay and her nanny/sidekick Vero continually find themselves in some crazy situations!! They have gotten themselves involved with the Russian mob and are trying to get away from them!! Craziness will ensue including some time at a citizen police academy!!
These books are very fun and fast reads!! Really enjoyed this one and look forward to #4 and many more books in this series!!!
