I can not describe the joy I felt when I received my NetGalley approval for the third installment of the Finlay Donovan saga. Finlay and Vero find themselves taking part in a police academy for civilians while hiding out from the MANY people coming after them. With Detective Nick leading the academy things begin to heat up (literally) between him and Finlay. They finally discover the true identity of EasyClean, however we are left with so many unanswered questions. How will I wait a year to get answers?!?!
Finlay Donovan is so laugh-out-loud funny.
She finds humor in the most desperate of times and helps you to lighten up again.
Highly recommend!!
This is Book three in the Finley Donavan Series and I would highly recommend reading the first two books before jumping into this one. :D
I enjoyed the "young-mom-over-her-head-who-stumbles-into-a-very-murder-y- situation" theme from the first two books. I gave 4 stars to both. The plot felt as plausible as a comedy fiction can be. I really appreciated that- because nothing makes me more annoyed than books that are set in reality, but whose characters make choices that only make sense to advance the plot of the book. Unfortunately, Book Three in the Finley Series fell into this trap.
Finley Jumps the Gun picks up shortly after the end of book 2. It's starting to feel stale. She is in another pickle She has the same love interests and ex-husband issues. The nefarious activity continues and her reactions to it no longer feel like a mom stuck in a hard place, instead her decisions are just criminal.
I don't think this is the end of the road for Finley. Overall, it's been enjoyable, I can only hope that as the series continues, Finley and her crazy situations evolve a bit.
I absolutely loved, loved loved this book! As a huge fan of the others books in this series, I was really worried this wouldn’t hold up to my expectations. But, it surpassed them!!! This is a book and a whole series I will be recommending to all patrons! It has humor, mystery, a smalllll little bit of suspense and just great characters! Also, the narrator was superb! Would definitely listen to anything they work on next.
I cannot get enough of Finlay and Vero. I could read 50 Finlay Donovan books and probably not get bored. In many ways these books deal with subject matter that is usually outside my preferred scope when it comes to murder mystery - violent crimes, mafia, assassins. And yet, the humor in this book is such that I don't mind at all that bodies are being chopped up and stashed in freezers or that the mob is paying people to kill other people. Through a comedy of errors Finlay and Vero end up at a citizen's police academy for the week while being tasked with finding out who the mole in the police force is by their mob boss nemesis. Delightful hijinks of course ensues with some major consequences for everyone involved. And fear not readers, this one ends on a frustrating cliffhanger too, so we can count on more Finlay fun to come. As always Angela Dawe's narration is on point, I binged this in a day!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an audio galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I've listened to all of the Finlay Donovan books and I will probably never NOT listen to them in the future. I love these books and this one was the best one yet! However, I really think Angela Dawe is such the perfect narrator for these books I'm not sure I'd love them as much as I do if I didn't listen to them. The writing is funny and witty and I can't get enough of Cosimanos writing, but Dawe drives the story home with her narration of countless different voices for different characters.
This is a book I'll be recommending all year long to anyone who will listen.
Another entertaining mystery. Finlay and Vera simultaneously get answers / resolution to some of their problems while digging themselves deeper into trouble and raising more questions in the end.
I really enjoyed the setting if this book as Finlay and Vera join a citizens police academy to try to figure out who might be Easy Clean. Can't wait for the next installment in their over the top adventure/antics.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.
I was SO stoked to be approved for an ARC for Finlay #3. This was an audio version, so it was different than how I’ve read her books in the past. I think that’s why I rated this a star lower than the others. It was definitely funny, with Finlay and Vero up to their same shenanigans. I would get lost a bit at times with the various male characters in the story, but I think I would’ve been fine if I’d have had a hard copy like the others. Overall, another quality adventure for Finlay with certainly more fun books to come! Such a great series!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for this audio ARC.
Finlay and Vero are back at it again! More accidental deaths to cover up and mysteries to solve that are still fallout from the first 2 books. This time they end up at a cop camp which means more of Nick and more tension as they have to work extra hard to keep their shenanigans hidden.
If you liked the first 2 books, I think you’ll like this one too. Unbelievable plots? Yes. Lots of fun? Also yes. I love the witty banter. These books are ones that I can’t put down and find things to do so I can keep listening.
Angela Dawe has narrated all the books and so her voices for Finlay and Vero ARE there voices to me. Hearing her narration automatically sent me back to the first 2 books.
This book solved one mystery but still left some open that will obviously be leading into the 4th book. I’ll be excited to pick it up as soon as it’s available.
4.5⭐️
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the audio Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest review.
I love Finlay and this whole cast of characters. This book series always makes me laugh. It’s so delightful.
4 stars. This is a nonstop ride of shenagigans and adventure. There really is never a moment of downtime as there is always something happening. A very fun read. Finlay and Vero's situation is being dragged out a little bit, was kind of expecting a little more resolution.
Thank you so much to Elle Cosimano, St Martins, MacMillan Audio & NetGalley for the opportunity to have an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I had heard so much about the Finlay Donovan series over the last year in the Bookstagram world. Fun fact, the first book of the series was one of my first ebooks I purchased when I got my Kindle. I was so excited to be able to get a copy of this high anticipating 3rd book of the series.
This picks up right where the last book left off. Finlay and Vero are on the hunt to find out who EZ Clean is and was tipped off that it was someone who may be on the inside of the police force. And the opportunity for the two to go to the citizen's police academy for the week came at the perfect time.
This is a bold statement but I think this may have been my favorite of the three? I love that this all took place in one location and even with that there was still so much action and humor throughout! Vero truly shines and I just love her relationship with Finlay. They just work so well together and are each other's ying & yang.
Even though he has done some crappy things, I really like how Finlay is navigating her relationship with Steven. She is keeping her guard up but also knows that he is the father of her children and doesn't want anything bad to happen to him.
The end of this book left it open to a possible 4th installment?! And if we do get that 4th book I hope we learn more about Vero's history as some of it was touched upon in this book.
Angela Dawes once again does and is a fabulous narrator! She really brings to life Finlay and gives Vero that extra spunk.
I do recommend reading the other two books prior. This would not work as a standalone as there are just too many connecting characters that carried through the book.
The Finlay series is such a great mix of laughs, action & a bit of romance.
If you are a fan of Only Murders in the Building, this book is similar vibes.
4.5
I am so glad Finlay Donovan is back!! I loved this book like I loved the other two. This time, Finlay is tasked with finding a contract killer before the cops do. This one was less fast-paced than the other two but still overall great! I liked how the book ended, and I’m excited to, hopefully, have a fourth book in the series! I enjoyed the narrator as well 😊
One thing I always look forward to at the beginning of the year is a new Finlay book, and this one was so much fun 🖤
It starts pretty close after the end of the second book, throwing Finlay and Vero into yet another tough situation. I love their banter and how they work together. What was great about this one was seeing their trust and friendship deepen after secrets were revealed.
Elle Cosimano has this knack for creating a twisty story, leaving you breadcrumbs you could use to put together the mystery, but also distracting you with countless hilarious and sometimes infuriating moments. It was easy for me to get lost in the story and just sit along for the ride without trying to figure out the mystery before the reveal.
If you love Finlay, her banter with Vero, the tension with a certain hot cop, I think you’ll really enjoy this one. It’s a lot of fun and makes me wonder why this hasn’t been made into a TV show yet 👀
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is out January 31st so get ready!
Thank you @ macmillan audio for the early audiobook.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano
I have listened to all three of the Finlay books on audio and this narrator never disappoints. I can really feel Finlay's voice shining through.
To be honest, I had little to no memory of what happened in the precious book so I had to do a little google search to catch myself up. But once my memory was filled up, I was off and running.
The third installment of Finlay drops you right in the story. We find Finlay back at her old games as she and Vero are in the middle of a new problem, when they haven't even resolved the old problems. It is absolutely important that you read the previous novels because the story is ongoing.
As in the previous books, Vero is the star of the series. I just love this character so much. I love her attitude and quick thinking when everything begins to look bleak.
What mess will Finlay get into next??
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun is the third book in the series and that’s where I messed up a little. I did not read the other two before this. While you don’t need the first two to fully understand the story, don’t be like me. Read them first. Elle Cosimano does a great job at subtly catching you up if you an idiot like me but I found myself really wishing I would have read the first two.
There is a lot going on and I don’t even know where to start. To summarize quickly and do the story no justice at all, Finlay is an author with writer's block, she is in debt to a Russian mobster, she has feelings for a cop named Nick, Nick has no idea of anything Finlay has done, and she has done some not so great stuff.
Someone is working for the Russian mobster and Finlay is trying to figure out who it is all while trying to stay alive, be a single mom, and trying to control her love life.
If it sounds like there is a lot going on it’s because there was. It was generally not confusing even with having no knowledge of the first two books. I do want to go back and read the first two. The only thing holding me back is the actual character of Finlay. I just did not find her all that likable. in her words, she is a criminal. I did however like her best friend Vero, who is also a criminal but just a little more likable. All of the supporting characters were great, especially Nick.
I do recommend this book but I also recommend not being an idiot like me. Start at the beginning!
Once again Finlay and Vero are up to their unpredictable and hilarious antics. Looking like they are in over their heads, Finlay uses her crime writing knowledge while Vero uses her street smarts to turn each situation into a laugh out loud experience. When they get mixed up with the Russian Mafia the stakes are higher than ever before! Can they continue to keep all the balls in the air, or this time will all their secrets come tumbling down? Cosimano’s series is delightfully fun, but read it in order so you don’t miss a moment of Finlay and Vero! With Cosimano’s clever writing and Angela Dawe’s narration this book is a true winner! Can’t wait for their next adventure! Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an ALC of this book.
My favorite dynamic duo is back and up to nonsense again! I love how this book ties into the previous books, but also progresses Finlay and Vero’s story in an organic way. Don’t let the genre of this book deter you into thinking it's lacking in suspense and mystery. It’s meant to have funny and sarcastic dialogue, but there were an abundance of scenes that had my heart racing and thrills that left me on the edge of my seat.
The shenanigans both Vero and Finlay get into provide an entertaining story. You will be yelling at them for digging themselves deeper while also cheering as they escape their near misses. The setting provided the opportunity to focus more on what the others were lacking which was more of Nick! So excited to see he had more of a predominant role with the story. I love this series and enjoyed where this book took Finlay and Vero. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC
The third book in the Finlay Donovan series did not disappoint. I loved every exciting and hilarious moment. Once again Angela Dawe does an excellent job narrating. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced preview. I look forward to more from the Finlay Donovan series!
I was so excited to get to read Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun after really enjoying the first two books in the series. Read on for a more detailed review, but be careful- it may contain spoilers if you haven't read the first two books in this incredibly fun series by Elle Cosimano!
In this third installment, Finlay is finally ready to make some decisions about her love life and her future, but she is still grappling with mysteries left unsolved at the end of book two. Who is Easy Clean? Why were they out for her ex-husband Steven? As always, writing is not coming as easily as Finlay would like and her editor is on her back because her most recent draft is not up to snuff. Namely, it's not spicy enough.
Finlay and Vero get into some hilarious hijinks including going to a citizen's police camp to try to get information for their own purposes. We learn more about Vero's past. and their friendship continues to grow. There is also more steam in this book and it's quite enjoyable! I love how Cosimano makes Finlay's writing mirror her life, it's fun and quirky.
Like the second book was different from the first, this third in the series also has it's own feel. There's a significant focus on Finlay's mental state and her presence of mind is more clear and focused than ever. I think the mystery was really well done in this installment and you can bet that I'll be in line ready for book 4! Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
