I really enjoyed this title, even though I haven't read the rest of the series. I enjoy Kennedy's writing, and I thought the plot was unique. I would like to go back and continue this series.
Really enjoyed this one! I should have read it so much sooner! But I don’t regret it. This maybe a new obsession! I love the characters, plot, etc.
LOVE! This was such a cute series of books. Great character development and storyline. Very good book.
This was super cute and it was just what I needed in the summer. I thought it was a good story with solid bones and I’d definitely be interested in reading more.
Another trip to Avalon bay means another romance is afoot. Cassie has only spent her summers in a Avalon bay throughtout the years. But this year is different. She is determined to have a summer fling. It is full of wit and humour. And various cameos from the other couples in Avalon bay.
Thank you St Martins Press and netgalley for an arc.
Elle Kennedy does not miss. I loved Tate and Cassie’s story. They had great banter and chemistry which made the book real so seamlessly. This book is the perfect book is the perfect beach read. 4.5/5 stars
Honestly, I loved this book. It just screams beachy romance for the summer, and it didn't disappoint. Cassie was such a lovable main character, and I rooted for her the ENTIRE book! Elle Kennedy just can do no wrong with her character development and her ability to make these characters really come to life on the page. Tate is fun and handsome and just the man you want to love, even though he puts her in the friend zone. Just....read it. Cute romcom for the win!

The Summer Girl
By Elle Kennedy
So for both of the Off Campus and Briar U series, I loved both of them. So I was excited to read The Summer Girl, but it disappointed me… it wasn’t my cup of tea. It just didn’t hit the same, the characters didn’t capture me, the plot seemed to be a little all over and the pacing was off… I finished it but it’s a book that I wouldn’t be recommending. It’s kinda just a basic summer college romance.
Romance: ❤️❤️❤️
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
Plot points: 💥💥💥
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was a bigger fan of the first two books, but liked this one well enough. I liked some of the references back to the main characters from the other books and I enjoyed some of the banter between Cassie and Tate. The big surprise at the end of the story and the way it shook the connection between Cassie and Tate sort of ruined this one for me - like why did it have to happen this way?! Either way, this was a nice end of summer read for me and I would read another book if Elle Kennedy decided to extend this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for letting me read "The Summer Girl" in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you for allowing me to read this book. I have really enjoyed this series and and this book did not disappoint. Loved the strength and innocence of Cassandra. Even though she is inexperienced she is not shy in knowing what she wants. Tate is a good soul and I love that his friendship with Cassandra is so important to him. Did not see the twist in their story coming. I will definitely recommend this book/series to others.
Elle Kennedy is one of my go to romance authors. Her books are always entertaining, with main characters that are so relatable. I always find that the subplots with the minor characters are just as interesting as the main plot between the two main characters. I really enjoyed the two main characters, and thought they were both so sweet and relatable. I had not read the first two books in this series, and found that I was still able to enjoy this book. Definitely a fun summer read!
DNF
I learned my lesson from the book before this in the series. I wanted so badly to give this author another chance, but by the third chapter, I was over it. The supposed male love interest’s first thoughts about the female main character are “Her rack is objectively spectacular. Sue me for noticing. I’m a man. I always notice a great rack.” I’m not into these characters at all, so I am going to put this one down.
A great summer read with a wonderful cast of characters. I really loved this series, and found this book to be very enjoyable. The MCs seemed more mature and less toxic than other couples and I really enjoyed that.
The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy is a breezy, easy-to-read summer romance set in the charming town of Avalon Bay. Cassie Soul returns to the beachside town for her last summer before adulthood and quickly finds herself drawn to Tate Bartlett, the local golden boy with a reputation for flings. The friends-to-lovers dynamic between them provides plenty of sweet and flirty moments, with Kennedy’s signature humor making it a fun read.
However, while the setup is engaging, the story feels a bit predictable, and the emotional depth between Cassie and Tate falls short. The potential for more meaningful character development—especially as secrets from Avalon Bay emerge—never quite materializes, and the plot twists don’t pack as much punch as expected. Tate’s transition from player to serious romantic interest is enjoyable but somewhat rushed, and Cassie’s journey of self-discovery is light but lacking the complexity I hoped for.
Overall, if you’re looking for a lighthearted, feel-good romance with a summery vibe and likeable characters, The Summer Girl fits the bill. Just don’t expect any major surprises or emotional depth along the way.
friends to lovers will always have a soft spot in my heart. i always thought i was a strict enemies to lovers girly but friends to lovers has been truly coming for its spot.
things i enjoyed:
- all the beach vibes
- the friend group
- how mature the characters were
-dual pov
definitely my favorite in this series
Summer Romance in Avalon Bay
The Summer Girl follows the story of Cassie Soul, a college student who hasn't spent an entire summer in Avalon Bay since her parents' divorce. Determined to make the most of her summer before starting her senior year at Briar U, Cassie arrives in Avalon Bay to stay with her grandmother. She's on a mission to have a summer fling and lose her virginity before returning to college. She quickly meets Tate Bartlett, a sailing instructor and the town's fun-loving golden boy. As their summer romance blossoms, Cassie and Tate navigate their personal insecurities and family dynamics, leading to a transformative summer for both.
The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy is a delightful addition to the Avalon Bay series, offering a blend of romance, humour, and emotional depth. It is a perfect summer read that explores themes of love, self-discovery, and family. Despite some predictability, the engaging characters and heartfelt moments make it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre.
I enjoyed the Avalon Bay series, however, I didn't love them. Cassie and Tate have a fun summer fling while dealing with some bigger issues of family pressures and finances. I felt like the book to a minute to get going even as this is the third book in the series and it didn't need the world building like the previous novels.
This book was so freaking good! My favorite of the series for sure! The banter between all of the characters had me cracking up laughing! I love this friend group so much. I really loved Cassie and Tate together. He was such a sweet guy but dirty in all the best ways! I was shocked by the ending and didn’t see that coming at all!! I love Elle’s writing so freaking much! Thank so much NetGalley for the copy to read and review!
This book screams summer and I love it.
Cassie is looking for a summer fling to get some experience under her belt. And she thinks she found the perfect person to fling: Tate. But Tate isn't interested so instead he becomes Cassie's "wing" to try and find her a suitable guy for the summer. But the more Cassie and Tate spend time together, the more complicated it becomes.
I haven't read the other books in the series (yet) but I plan on doing that soon. I like the easy way that Kennedy writes and this is truly a perfect summer book. It's light, airy, sexy, and a fast read. On top of that, I was able to connect with and like the characters and their wit.
5 stars for a sizzling summer smash!
I love Elle Kennedy who doesn't? But when I heard it was low spice compared to her other books (which I already consider low spice) I was nervous! I'm a spice girl! I didn't need to worry though Tate and Cass were goals! Tate is so different from the male characters we usually get in books that are cocky bad boys who don't wanna stick around he was a good guy! And Cass was introverted and dealing with a parent who body shamed her and made her feel like crap. This book has emotion and depth and made me barely notice that it had low spice because when it did it DID!! SO GOOD!! I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK!
