Cassie is looking for a summer fling while she visits Avalon Bay — the town where she grew up and where her dad and grandma still live. Tate seems like the perfect fit for the role — he’s super hot, never interested in anything serious, and no one has a bad word to say about him.
This is the third book in a series but it’s a companion, so you don’t have to read the other two first. I’ve read them, but I don’t think that anyone would have trouble just jumping into this one. The characters from the first two do show up, since it’s a friend group, so the couples would be spoiled, but that’s about it. This one was actually my favorite of the three!
This was a cute romance and a super quick read for me even though it’s not necessarily short — I just had to keep going to see what was going to happen next! It was fun watching the characters grow and learn to stick up for themselves and what they want.
I was quite attached to both Cassie and Tate and I loved not only the tension and chemistry between the two but the friendship they built at the basis of their relationship. Tate is a hugely lovable cinnamon roll despite his playboy image and I loved that! Cassie is a character you root for standing up for herself with her life circumstances and finding her inner strength with the support of those who love and care for her. Her ability to learn to reframe how she views things and learn it's ok to expect more than what she's given is exactly what you hope to see from her story.
I also loved the relationship Cassie had with her grandmother and enjoyed how the relationship between her dad and mother in law changed by the end of the book. Her mom was a piece of work though! 😖
Elle Kennedy has quickly become an author whose books and characters I love and I might dare say she's becoming an autobuy author for me. 🤔
Highly recommend this quick read with lovable characters with beautiful character arcs!
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
The Summer Girl is definitely the best book so far in the Avalon Bay series. Despite all of the messy family dynamics, I did really enjoy Cassie’s journey to becoming more assertive. While I didn’t care for the family drama that caused it, the inevitable third act “breakup” was tastefully done and resolved in a mature fashion by the main characters. Overall, I really enjoyed this and would give it a solid 3.5!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Generally a fun read with a good mix of humor, spice, and feelings. Characters had a reasonable amount of depth.
However I was a bit thrown by the playboy vibes of the MMC and the book leaned a bit too much into objectification of women. Not my cup of tea.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This book was the perfect mixture of a fun, lite read with enough emotion to make the characters seem real. Cassie and Tate had such amazing chemistry I would have read so many more pages of them just interacting with each other. Cassie I felt was an incredibly relatable FMC and I really enjoyed being in her POV. I didn’t once wish I was in the other characters head when reading a Cassie POV, not that I didn’t enjoy Tate’s POV chapters. Tate managed to make me love a light haired MMC. I honestly wish there was more chapters in his POV because of how enjoyable those chapters were to read. Overall this was a really great book and further shows how amazing Elle Kennedy’s books are.
I don’t think I’m the target audience for this particular book; which always makes it hard to rate.
I did finish the book… but there were so many cringy moments from the start, that by the end I just couldn’t care anymore. Anytime a guy (I refuse to say man here) wants to talk about a woman’s rack, just ain’t gonna work for me. What happen to thinking about a girl for her brain? Or her ability to be a future mother? But sure, let’s build our relationship on the size of a rack.
I despised the MMC. Do women really love playboys? Does anyone want a playboy? Gross no thanks.
If these things don’t bother you, then by all means, proceed to read.
I did enjoy the bits with the grandmother, and the stepsisters and turtle.
Super fun with a surprising twist!
I admit, this one started a little slow for me, but once I was invested, I was HOOKED! I really fell in love with both Cassie and Tate. Their individual stories touched my heart. Seeing the two of them come together made me smile. I also really enjoyed the storyline with Cooper, Mac, Evan, and Gen. It was super fun to see them all be part of such a fun event. What I didn’t see coming was that plot twist. Holy cannoli, that was quite a bomb! I think I may have even gasped. It definitely took me by surprise. I loved the ending. It was sooo good. This was a great read. I really enjoyed this story, the characters, and the return to Avalon Bay. I highly recommend!

This was a cute summer read. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Big fan of Elle Kennedy! This one was my favorite in the series.
This book was very cute and enjoyable. I think Elle Kennedy does a great job of drawing you in a story. I always get nervous when I love an authors previous series and start a different series of theirs but Elle does a great job of keeping the bells and whistles that make her books great!
Highly recommend if you’re fans of her other series and if you enjoy a great summer read.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Elle Kennedy's third installment in her Avalon Bay series 'The Summer Girl' is a fresh as a sea breeze flowing t hrough your hair and as scorching as the July sun. I've enjoyed the entire series so far, but 'The Summer Girl' just hits different.
Between the dazzling haze of chemistry between the protagonists and the gut-wrenching third act twist, 'The Summer Girl' completely surpassed my expectations. At once a warm hug and a heartbreaker, readers will find this newest chapter devastatingly relatable and un-put-downable.
An amazing summer read! I love romance with some substance and Elle Kennedy delivers. You won’t be disappointed by the writing or the memorable characters.
Elle Kennedy does it again. Love love love her writing!! I don’t know how she does it but every book just pulls you in and it’s hard to put down.
I’ve been trying to fight off the End-Of-Summer Blues, and also it felt wrong to let a book called “The Summer Girl” sit unread as we head into fall, so I blatantly used this novel as an escape.
There’s something about being on vacation that amplifies those butterflies you get at the start of a first crush. Maybe it’s the ability to recreate yourself and know you can be whoever you want to be. Maybe it’s that there’s a timeline so you know things are just casual and easy. Maybe it’s the vitamin d overload from being outside and enjoying the sunshine. Who knows?
The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy is third in the Avalon Bay series but I read it as a standalone and it holds up. The Summer Girl is immersive, like sinking into the warm waters of a Caribbean ocean. Readers vibe with Cassie because she shares her emotions with us, even if it’s hard for her to share them to others. We ride the rollercoaster that is her summer along with her. Cassie and Tate are adorable together and I just couldn’t wait for when they’d be back together on the page.
This book would be excellent for anyone who is a fan of Sarah Dessen but likes a little open door romance added in. There is a romance but there’s also family drama and friend group hijinx added in the mix. Easy to read, easier to find yourself smiling at the pages. I hope if you pick this up you enjoy it!
Elle Kennedy can do no wrong in my opinion!! I loved this one just as much as the first! Highly recommend to anyone who loves Elle and needs a good summer read.
The Summer Girl is a cute and entertaining Summer read. It's the story of Cassie trying to find a Summer fling and finds love along the way. YA romance + some spice. I think this would be a perfect book to read at the pool, beach, or vacation. I don't think I'm in the right age bracket to fully appreciate the romance but it was fun to read nonetheless.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This series was … not my favorite. I found myself often bored while reading this one. The blatant objectification of characters just rubbed me the wrong way. I struggled with the way these characters interacted with each other and the ‘conflict’ and resolution felt a bit contrived.
There are some fun interactions with the broader friend group and I appreciated the relationship arc with the FMC and her dad/step-mom.
Thank you to NetGalley for the eCopy.

The Summer Girl (Avalon Bay, Book 3) by Elle Kennedy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / Pages: 392 / Genre: Romance
Cassie is on break from college staying at her grandmother’s house in Avalon Bay and looking for a summer fling and the chance to finally lose her V-card. Never one to get too serious about any girl, Tate doesn’t want to break a virgin’s heart, so he valiantly offers to be her wingman and help her find her summer fling. You can guess how that arrangement went. The chemistry between Cassie and Tate is off the charts in this cute and spicy romcom. I especially liked watching Cassie grow up and deal with her issues with her bitch of a mother, finally standing up for herself. This was an excellent beach read and I look forward to reading more from Elle Kennedy.
Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.
I liked this one!! Elle Kennedy is an auto-but author for me and this series gets better with each book. Having it come full circle with the hotel grand opening and learning about the family behind the original owners was really enjoyable for me. Cute summer romance with great banter between the two main characters!
