Cute story, like not a love. I got bored in a couple places & skimmed through to get to dialogue. Will still read anything this author puts out, I’ve loved other stuff she’s written.

The Summer Girl is a friends to friends with benefits to more romance. Cassie has returned to Avalon Bay and on her list of things to do for the summer is have a fling and she has her sights set on Tate. Initially she and Tate hit it off and have some instant chemistry, but then he decides that they should really stick to just being friends because he doesn't want to hurt her. Instead, he offers to be her wingman in her quest to find a summer fling. The more time they spend together, the more they hit it off and the more the sparks fly until eventually they give in and decide on more of a friends with benefits arrangement.

This has been my favorite book of the series and I was invested in the story, but I still struggled at times with the overall story line. While Cassie and Tate had some definite chemistry, I really would have liked to get more character building, especially for Cassie and I would have liked more development to their relationship. I felt like ultimately things between them wer very superficial. There was a major dramatic twist thrown in the book and overall I wasn't a huge fan. It didn't really seem to serve any purpose aside from dramatic effect. I think this was maybe a case of its me as these characters just seemed somewhat immature, including Cassie's mom.

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and to the author for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was not really the book for me. I did like the start of this series but this story kind of fell off for me. Was and almost DNF.

Elle Kennedy never disappoints! This was so fun and easy to read. Elle really gives her characters wonderful depth that’s super enjoyable to read.

I love this series so much!! These two were really cute when they were together. They had great banter and chemistry, and were both so sweet. I really liked seeing Tate's emotional side and Cassie's big news at the end was perfect.

The 20 year old side characters were more mature than one of the adults. She was so mean to Cassie, and really everyone around her. Did I like the 3rd act breakup? Nah, I never do, but I can kind of see why it had to happen, but did I need the side plot that caused it? Not really.

Overall, this was good fun and my favorite of the series.

This was a lighthearted, fun read with likeable characters and a lovely setting! A true beach read with fun plots woven in and messaging around family and self-discovery. Can't go wrong! Thank you for the arc.

I love the Avalon Bay series and love how they’re all individual stories, yet are all woven together! I re-read the first and second before reading this one and got sucked into their world.

4.25 stars... is that weird to say? I don't know. It was better than a 4 but not a 5 but also not a 4.50 for me. I'm going start off this review like a little bit of a buzzkill. I did not like the previous 2 books in the Avalon Bay series. I was approved to read this book almost a year ago and did not want to read it after reading the others because I don't like giving bad reviews to things and after not enjoying the first two (honestly its a me issue not an author issue, I learned that I do not enjoy college age romances while reading them). BUT The Summer Girl truly did redeem this series for me. It was fun and flirty and silly and heartbreaking. I loved the two main characters, Cassie and Tate. They were sweet and kind people dealing with normal early twenties things and I appreciated that it wasn't some overly grown up situations that they were put into. I loved reading about the relationship Cassie had with her father and how the relationship seemed to change. I resonated with her inability to shut up. Overall, I surprised myself and loved this book. The vibes were vibing here.

This is a sweet predictable love story that is a great read to relax with over the weekend. I would have liked more in-depth characterization and character development.

Cassie goes to live with her grandmother for the summer. She’s also looking for a summer doing when she meets Tate. The characters in this story lacked depth. It was a quick read, but not my style.

The popularity of Elle Kennedy led me to expect this to be a vapid, beach read, but there were a surprising depth to the characters and the relationships between them felt genuine and evocative. It was a sweet coming of age romance for Cassie, who is hoping that summer away from the pressures and expectations of college life will allow her to let down her guard enough to let someone in.

Cliche and predictable but it's to be expected with these novels- or moreso this series to begin with. I can't say that this book would be for everyone but it's good for an easy and light read for warmer weather!

Thank you NetGallery for the eARC in exchange for a review!

Elle Kennedy can not write a bad novel, I absolutely love diving into her stories. This is the perfect beach read; lighthearted and funny with moments of sincerity and depth.

This a fun summer beach read with all the necessities: light and easy read, page-turning, sexy and fun novel. This is part of a series which has similar characters but can be read as a stand-alone.

There is an interesting storyline aside from the lovelorn involving preserving the history of the town and its buildings. This story is the undercurrent which is carried through all the books providing the tie amongst the characters. For this reason I would recommend reading them in order.

The novel’s setting is the beach town of Avalon Bay in North Carolina where affluent people stay to escape for the summer from the chaos of their busy city lives. This story centers around Cassie Soul who is staying with her grandmother, Lydia Tanner, well-known owner of the Beacon Hotel. Mackenzie Cabot from Good Girl Complex will be renovating and restoring the hotel since bought it from Lydia. The hotel represents historical significance for the Tanner family which is the thread which strings the series together. Cassie, a college student, has been living in Boston with her mother and has come to Avalon Bay as her father is re-marrying in NC.

Cassie attends a party at Luke's house where she is introduced to the locals who live in Avalon Bay. After her parents divorce, her mother took her to live in Boston so she doesn't know her father or new step-sister very well. She decides that she will have a carefree summer as she celebrates her 21st birthday. It doesn't take long for her to find a "summer fling" when she overhears Tate Bartlett being dumped by his girlfriend. The sailing instructor is no stranger to flings but does not want to break Cassie's heart and decides she needs to stay in the friend zone. How long will he be able to keep his distance from the fun loving sweet Cassie. There are many events planned for this to be an eventful summer.

Picked this up thinking it would be a fun summer romance, and while I enjoyed some of the banter between the two characters, I hated everything else about them. The virgin, innocent FMC with giant boobs who doesn;t know how beautiful she is and the experienced playboy MMC who comes along to show her the wonderful world of sex is one of my least favorite tropes, and everything about this made me cringe. This book featured numerous female characters, and yet I'm not sure it even passed the bechdel test as every conversation revolved around boys. Three stars for the awesome grandma, the complicated family aspects, and the banter. The spice was also top tier. Please do not read if you respect women, but feel free to pick up solely for the spice -- that's about all this book was good for.

I love Elle Kennedys “The Deal” series so of course I am always down to check out her other works. This book was funny, and cringy (but in the best way). This was a great read!
