After spending all winter reading The Deal series I was so excited to receive and advanced copy of Elle Kennedy's newest romance The Summer Girl! Set in the idilic southern beach town of Avalon Bay Cassie is back after years away spending one last summer with her Grandma as they say goodbye to the town and family hotel! Cassie is set on finding someone to have a summer fling with from the moment she enters Avalon Bay. Enter Tate, who is a delicious local who yearns of sailing the ocean and doing what he loves while also trying to help the family business. Cassie and Tate Start as friends but walk the line between more throughout the story. While The Deal is still my favorite Elle Kennedy book still, this was the perfect read for when you're longing for summer and the beach. It gives everything a romance novel needs and it hit all those marks for me! I felt like the story moved a little slow for me and I was wishing for more spice but overall I enjoyed this and would recommend reading on the beach in the warm sunshine when it comes out on 7/18!
Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy!
Perfect beach read! Fun, light and sexy! Put me in the mood for summer. Cute dialogue and great escapism. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun summer read. Toss this one in your beach bag!
Thanks to NetGalley for my gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Summer Girl is is the 3rd in the Avalon bay series.
This is the story of college student Cassie who is home for the summer and looking for a fling. Enter Tate, a local hottie, who seems like the sort of player who would be the perfect fling. Full of nervous babbling, misunderstandings, and a narcissistic mom who drops a huge truth bomb that rocks Cassie’s world, this book is a cute, quick read. A fun, beachy rom com with a HEA.
This was a super cute rom com and the 3rd in the Avalon Bay series. Cassie is spending the summer in Avalon Bay before her senior yr. in college since her grandmother is selling the hotel and her home that she has had there since she was a little kid. She was determined to have a summer fling which is where Tate Bartlett comes in. They start out almost flinging before Tate friend zoned himself and became Cassie’s wingman until they realize that they want to be together. This is mostly fluffy romance but there is some angst ¾ of the way through but that does of course get resolved in the end. While this is the 3rd in the series and I have read the first 2, you could still read this by itself it just makes it more fun to have read the first 2 since they are a big friend group and are the couples from the first 2 books are background characters during the main story.
Thanks to St. Martins and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
Absolutely loved and is a perfect summertime feel good story. Although I loathe a third act breakup this book absolutely changed my mind. The setting, the characters. And the drama was perfectly balanced!
This was like reading an R rated version of a Sarah Dessen book and I loved every second of it. The ending was very cheesy but I’m giving it a pass. This is hands down one of the best books I’ve read this year!
This is my first book by Elle Kennedy, and although this is technically part of a series, it was also fine as a standalone! I really liked Cassie and Tate both as a couple and individually. This was a nice beach read. I like how even though Cassie is sweet she isn’t naive. And Tate isn’t all bad boy, he’s actually so sweet and caring. There was a good amount of spice but it wasn’t so much that it took over the story.
📚 The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the latest book in Elle Kennedy’s Avalon Bay series due out on July 18th. I have enjoyed the previous two books in the series, but this one blew me away. Cassie is in Avalon Bay for the summer and looking for a summer fling. She gets more than she bargained for when she overhears Tate getting dumped at a party at the beginning of the summer. You don’t have to have read the previous books in the series to read The Summer Girl, but all the characters from the previous books make an appearance and it was fun to see them again. This series makes for the perfect beach reads this summer. Thanks to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for this advanced copy to review. I loved it.
This one took me a bit to get through. I got bored several times and didn’t really react to any of the twist.
I love Elle Kennedy and her writing style so much and this was not an exception. This was fantastic and one of the few I haven’t read yet but I loved it so much and kept turning the pages.
I’ve been delaying posting feedback because I’m in deep denial this The Summer Girl is over. This book was my favorite of the series (so far? please tell me there will be more!) and I didn’t want it to end.
A great beach read, Cassie and Tate bring us a friends to lovers romance with the addition of complex family dynamics. It had good spice too!
Okay, no. Absolutely not. I'm sorry, but no. You know how women swoon over a man written by a woman? Well Tate was written by a woman and she chose to write an absolute douche. There's no way in hell this is enjoyable. Women, pick better men in your lives. 🙄
Sexy small town happily ever after that I devoured!! Cassie is on the hunt this summer and local Playboy Tate comes to her rescue. With the agreement neither will catch feelings they agree to a summer fling. A sexy summer ensues. Avalon Bay is full of drama and love and laughter. Such a fun story that will be gracing all the beaches this summer!
This one wasn't for me. The characters were immature, and the writing was not my style. I tried to stick with it but the way the girl speaks to her grandma was not my idea of fun reading.
The Summer Girl makes the perfect beach read for all the young friends to lovers out there! Even though I am no way near as young as Cassie and Tate, I would so love to spend the summer in Avalon Bay with Grandma Lydia!
I absolutely adored this book!! My favorite Elle Kennedy book so far! This book had my smiling pretty much from start to finish…there were also a few moments where I wanted to cry. I felt like we got to know so many details about the characters that made me feel more connected to the story. I loved how there were so many elements to the story that tied together flawlessly. Now I want to go to Avalon Bay!
I loved this book! This was my first book by Elle Kennedy and I loved this book so much I went back and read the rest of the Avalon Bay Series. Although it is part of the series, it works as a standalone novel too. The Summer Girl would be a great summer/beach read since it immediately made me want to go to a small town on the coast for the whole summer! This is a must read if you like summer romance, dual perspectives, and friends to lovers.
Thank you NetGalley, Elle Kennedy and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
I was so excited when I got the email from NetGalley that I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak at The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy. I had read and loved the other two Avalon Bay books (Good Girl Complex and Bad Girl Reputation) but this one was by far my favorite of the 3. This was a fantastic summer romcom, with a friends to lovers storyline, with the right amount of drama.. but definitely not too heavy on it. This one was a quick read for me and I was hooked from the first sentence. The best part of this book is that it can be read as a stand alone if you want to just jump in on this one and pick up the others later. I really hope Elle is not done with Avalon Bay!
Thank you to the publisher and net galley for the opportunity to read this arc.
I started reading Elle Kennedy’s book last Summer starting with ‘The Deal’ from the Briar U series, and instantly loved it. I enjoyed all of her characters in that series and the plot, each one different but flowed together, so I was excited to get the opportunity to read this arc.
Cassie is visiting Avalon Bay for the Summer and wants to find a Summer fling. She meets Tate, after he’s been dumped, and is instantly attracted to him. The two start off as friends but realize they desire more and strike up a fling. I really enjoyed reading their chemistry. I also enjoyed seeing Cassie reconnect with her dad and that side of her family. The connection between Tate and Cassie’s family definitely surprised me in the end- but overall really enjoyed the book!
Okay I loved this story. I thought it was a perfect summer romance. There was laughter, banter, romance, angst, and best of all, a little steam.
It was easy to get wrapped up in Cassie and Tate's story. I hated every time I had to put it down and found myself impatiently waiting to get back to it. I even connected to Cassie's story with her family. I have an eerily similar family dynamic with my parents and I thought that the relationships were portrayed realistically. The same goes for Cassie's leeriness to express herself and aversion to confrontation. I thought it was well researched and accurate.
This was my first book by Elle Kennedy but certainly wont be my last and I plan on recommending it to everyone. 4.5/5 stars for me overall. I can't wait to buy a finished copy to have on my shelf. Now onto Elle Kennedy's backlist!
