This book stands alone (truly, because I haven't read the first two in the series). I wanted a fun, sweet summer read and this was exactly that. Elle can always be counted on to deliver, and this was no exception. Friends-to-Lovers is always so special to read, and she did a great job crafting Cassie and Tate.

There are family dynamics at play, just enough to give background to the story without overshadowing.

The smut is slightly less than her other work but perfectly matches the tone of the story.

I will read and recommend everything by Elle Kennedy. I devoured this book in a day out by the beach. It is the perfect beach/summer read. I love the Avalon Bay series and couldn’t wait to read this book. Boy did it not diss appoint!

I loved Cassie and truly enjoyed her storyline. I felt like she was a complex character dealing with lots of underlying problems many people can connect with. The instant chemistry between her and Tate had me wanting more and telling myself just one more chapter.

I love the sweet, boy next door Tate. Sometimes with two perspectives I find myself rushing through one or the other. Not this story! I was definitely shocked at the end and remember saying what the heck, I did not see that coming.

Overall it is the perfect summer read and I can’t wait till it comes out so I can buy it for my shelf. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced copy. I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars and can’t wait to recommend this to all of my friends.

I am desperately trying to love any of Elle Kennedy's non-hockey offerings, but they all seem to fall just a little bit flat for me.

This one follows Cassie -- she's in Avalon Bay for the summer, staying with her grandmother, and looking for a summer fling. Enter Tate, a local commitment-phobe and sailing enthusiast. He's apparently the hottest guy she's ever seen, but they have next to zero chemistry.

My main problem with this is that at no point during this book did I actually believe this couple would actually make it for any length of time after the end of the summer, Cassie specifically says that she doesn't want to live in Avalon Bay because she prefers living in the city. Tate, apparently, wants to live on a boat(?) and take over his dad's business. And despite the fact that they claim to be in love by the end of the book, it feels kind of shallow and out of nowhere? I just have no faith in this relationship.

Other problems I have include: Tate weirdly fetishizing Cassie's virginity, the pointless third act conflict that came out of nowhere (especially when there were REAL conflicts that they could have had???), and the random storyline where Cassie accidentally becomes a published author on a whim.

Overall, this is a light and quick beach read, and you might have fun if the above doesn't tend to bother you, and if you're not actively comparing this to the Off-Campus Series.

I loved being back in Avalon Bay! I really enjoyed the first two, so I was so excited when I received this one!

This book is the perfect beach read for this summer! I really enjoyed and connected with the main characters. I also enjoyed catching up with some of the previous characters.

Cassie and Tate had great chemistry. I enjoyed their back stories and how they connected. This one offered more friendship along with family drama and past trauma. I loved how Cassie fit in with her family previously owning the hotel that has been a part of this series. She connected well with the others and offered the sweetest personality.

This one can be read as a standalone. It's a great summer read that offers love, friendship, spice, family dynamics, and a bit of a twist!

Thank you so much Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Elle Kennedy for this advanced readers copy.

This is part three of the Avalon Bay series, it is a dual POV, friends to lovers story. This book is a great beach read! The spice is good in the book. 🌶️🌶️🌶️ it’s steamy but not overwhelming. Overall, The Summer Girl is a fun and spicy novel about a summer fling that turns into something more.

This book kept me wanting to read more!
The main character, Cassie, is helping her grandmother sell their beach hotel that has been in the family for years. Cassie's main goal this summer is to find a fun summer fling. Cassie meets a gentleman named Tate, who is housesitting her neighbors house. Tate agrees to help Cassie find her summer fling and is put in the fiend zone. The team has great chemistry together.
I wish that I would have known that there were other series before this book because I would have really enjoyed reading them first. (You don't need to read the other ones to enjoy this one though.) Great book! I am going to read the other two before this book and most likely read this one again!

The Avalon Bay series is everything I want from a beachtown romance: fluff, angst, chemistry, and spice.

The Summer Girl (book 3 in the series) is the perfect summer beach read. Cassie is visiting her grandmother for the summer and just wants the fun of a summer fling. She becomes friends wtih Tate and they find a special connection that eventually turns into the perfect fling. Along the way Cassie reconnects with her father and we see the importance of family in her and Tate's lives.

3.5 stars.

This book series feels like a perfect reading palette cleanser. Like a taste of perfect lemon sorbet when you're looking for something light & airy after a heavier read.

We return to Avalon Bay for Cassie & Tate, who dance around having a fling that quickly turns into a full blown summer romance.

Everything about this book felt completely even-keeled: even the tension between Cass trying to date other people and last minute inevitable "conflict" between them were quickly resolved without a lot of fuss.

There are great glimpses of the Hartley twins & their beaus in here as well.

A perfect beach read with sweet and very likeable characters but a pretty forgettable plot.

*don’t say it don’t say it don’t…* THIS IS MY FAVORITE AVALON BAY BOOK I WILL HEAR NO ARGUMENTS (okay I said it…)

But seriously. This was such a fun read! It was silly & sweet but also serious & real. Full of family drama, summer flinging, adorable babbling, window sneaking, friendship, lots of familiar characters, & dual POV. Plus the chemistry was off the charts!

You won’t want to miss this one! @ellekennedy33’s The Summer Girl will be published on July 18, 2023 & will be your next favorite beach read!

Is it summer yet?

Do I think Elle Kennedy is a good writer? Yes. Does she have a certain flow? Yes. Is her writing easy to read? Yes. Do I think that this book will be bought and also rented form the library? Yes.

From the standpoint of the story plot I was disappointed. I felt this story is over down and I think that a 21 year old virgin looking for her "summer fling" is cliché and just cringey. I'll be honest once I understood the premise I no longer wanted to read the book.

My rating of a 3 is purely because I think Elle Kennedy is a decent writer and I know she can do better, however, in terms of sellability this book is a good choice.

This was a quick read and very predictable, which is great for me since I’ve been reading some deep stuff lately. I liked Cassie. We learned a lot about her past and how her past influences her decisions. I thought the author could have developed Cassie a little more, that some of her descriptions were just so matter of fact. It was an okay read for me.

If you’re looking for the perfect light beach read then look no further!

This is the third installment of the Avalon Bay series but can absolutely be read as a standalone! The Summer Girl follows Cassie as she spends the summer before her senior year in college at Avalon Bay in search of her first ever summer fling.

Tate and Cassie have amazing chemistry and the angst was incredible. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

If you love dual POV, friends to lovers, small towns and some spice in your romcoms I would absolutely recommend checking this one out.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and the author for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

3.75/5

This was a really solid book that I enjoyed. I would say it’s good, not great. The first half was slow and felt predictable and vapid. I liked Cassie and Tate as characters, but felt like I knew where the story was going. I would rate the first half of this book 3 stars. However, as I kept reading, I became more engage and intrigued by the story. What seemed fairly simple ended up delving into complex family and relationship issues. I absolutely love that this story touched on deeply personal and intricate family matters without the reader even realizing it until the critical plot twist toward the end. I think that the second half of this book deserves 4 or 4.5 stars. I am glad I stuck with it because I think that the story line paid off and came together in a very realistic, yet difficult, way.

Pros: entertaining story, likable characters, enjoyable setting (really feels like a summer vacation), unpredictable plot twist

Cons: I really did not enjoy how the first half of the book went on and on about Cassie being a virgin and the size of her boobs. I know that these contribute to her character’s insecurities, but it felt like this was brought up too much. As the story progressed, neither of these are brought up much (maybe like once in the second half of the book?)

Overall, I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a beach read that delves into complex family dynamics, without going overkill or encroaching on literary drama/fiction territory. It provides a believable love story, where both main characters are likable and unique in their own ways, but balances out the romance with friendship and realistic life obstacles.

The Summer Girl is the third book in the Avalon Bay series. I was super happy for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review- thank you #Netgalley! This was a fantastic beach read I had the pleasure f finishing on my vacation. I love romcoms and this one did not disappoint- I’m looking forward to going back and reading the first two in the series.

The third book in this Avalon Bay series, and possibly my favorite.
Follows Tate (one of the twin’s friends) and Cassie as they try to have a summer fling that turns into more.
Loved the angst, the character growth and the twist at the end.

My Thoughts ~ throughly enjoyed reading this book, surprisingly this is my first read by the author and I can't wait to dive into more of her books. I will say I adored Tate, he was at first portrayed as a hookup only type of guy who I thought I wouldn't enjoy but woah did his character surprise me turned out to be SUCH a sweetheart and EVERYTHING Cassie needed in her life. Cassie was such a great character she was fun, Carring, smart. There banter and flirtation was great. I loved the back ground and different things going on between family members within the original plot. Such a sweet love story with a TON of spicy added to the mix of things.

Disclaimer: I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, but it doesn’t influence my opinion of the book nor the contents of this review in any way.

The Summer Girl is DEFINITELY my favorite in the Avalon Bay series so far!! I really wasn't sure about this series with the first two books, and likely wouldn't have continued if I didn't get approved for this ARC. However I have to say, this book really won me over in a big way.

The first thing I loved: The Grandma! Miss Girl was SO funny, and I enjoyed her every interaction. I was also happy to meet the original owner of the Beacon Hotel, and her classy but sassy personality matched my expectations perfectly.

Tate Bartlett was also a huge win. He was such a fun, sweet and sexy guy - literally - and I adored that he was such a family guy :) Bit him in the ass later, but ya know. Cassie was also a super fun heroine, laidback but sassy and adorable in the greatest way.

There were several tropes in this one that I wasn't expecting that just completely won me over. First of all, I love a wingman/lessons in seduction dynamic. Oh, you want to friend zone me but you'll help me find a guy to have a summer fling with? Cool cool cool. You also want to practice kissing?? Right yeah let's do it. Can't wait 🥹👏🏻 PLUS THERE WERE NICKNAMES 😁

A friends-to-lovers dynamic is always fun, but this was exceptional. Peeking through their facing bedroom windows at each other??? PLEASE!!! It's giving Taylor Swift "You Belong With Me" music video and I'm here for it.

I glimpse a flash of movement next door. It's messed up, this strange synchronization Cassie and I have going on. As she passes her window, I narrow my eyes, frown, then grab my phone to text her.
Me: You're wearing pink to your carnival date? No.
Cassie: Why not??
Me: Because you'll get lost in a sea of cotton candy. You won't stand out.
Cassie: But I look cute in pink.
I can't argue with that. As it happens, she looks cute in everything, but I keep that observation to myself.

We were also introduced to a Landon, and I hope we see more of him later. I'm intrigued :)

There was also a super fun summer field-day competition thing between all the local businesses (this is why I adore small town romances) that had me genuinely ANXIOUS for them to win!!! Screw sports romance excitement, we need more field day games!!! 🙌🏼 Goodbye hockey romances, hello speed sand castle building - okay that was a little too far. I could never get rid of hockey.

This was one of those rare stories where I actually really liked the third-act conflict. There wasn't an arbitrary and out-of-character breakup happening, but something much more interesting.

Spoiler: I also love the representation in this story that it's okay to break off family that doesn't serve you or isn't good for you. I was really happy that Cassie and her mom didn't end up totally improving their relationship within a week or so, but instead Cassie spoke her truth and cut her off. More of this please in romance.

This small, coastal town romance was the perfect read during spring break and will be an excellent beach read selection this summer! Now I'm very much looking forward to the next installment ✨
