I really enjoyed this book; it was fun and sweet with some spice thrown in!! Cassie and Tate are total opposites, Tate is the sweet player in town and Cassie is a sweet and naïve girl, in town visiting. They shouldn’t make sense on paper, but they work.
Tate brings out such a confidence in Cassie that she didn’t have before. The way he helps her stand up for herself, and find her self-confidence, gah I just loved it!! As for Tate, it was fun to see the player brought to his knees by the new girl in town!
I will say that the drama at the end was wildly unexpected, but I can appreciate that it forced some tough but much needed conversation. And let me tell you, Cassie’s grandma Lydia’s most important rule of life had me literally laughing out loud! All in all, this was a quick and decently spicy read!
The Avalon Bay series is everything I want from a beachtown romance: fluff, angst, chemistry, and spice. The Summer Girl is no exception.
The Summer Girl follows Cassie as she spends the summer in Avalon Bay looking for her first ever summer fling.
Cassie and Tate have great chemistry and angst together. Their moments together leading up to their eventual coupling are fire hot. I couldn’t turn the paces fast enough.
The reason I rated the novel four stars instead of five is because the final hurdle Cassie and Tate needed to pass for their happily ever after was unnecessary and useless. It was all resolved in a few pages and added nothing of substance to the story, characters, or relationships.
Since The Summer Girl is the third in the series, the characters from the previous novels are sprinkled throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed the check ins, but reminded me that Bad Girl Reputation is still my favourite of the series by a significant margin.
Overall, The Summer Girl is a fun and spicy novel about a summer fling that turns into something more. It’s not the best of the series, but it’s a close second.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you love romcoms with friends to lovers, small town, and dual POV (and a little spice) this book is for you! 😉
It was my first book in the Avalon Bay series. ⛱️☀️ I didn't know there are two before this one, but after finishing this one, I want to check out the other books. This novel is the perfect beach read. It was fast-paced and entertaining. Tate is super cute😍 and Cassie is so sweet. ♥️
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Elle Kennedy for this ARC!
This was the perfect summer read!! The characters were so likable and pulled you in. The story didn’t drag on or bore you at any point. Would love to read this again and be transported to this lovely beach town!
I think this is my favorite Avalon bay book! I adore Tate and Cassie.
I love that Cassie knows who she is and finds the strength to stand up for herself and own mental health.
Tate is such a cinnamon roll character. So sweet and loyal. I love how he encourages and supports Cassie.
This is a great book if you’re looking for a fun beach read. It’s about a summer break romance. I gave this book 3/5 stars. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The release date is July 18, 2023.
This was such a light, fun, romantic book! I really loved the two main characters Tate and Cassie. Their banter was adorable and felt like real interactions. I also thought Victoria was such a believable narcissist. I was a bit torn at the ending and thought perhaps it felt a bit rushed, but I don't know that I could think of a better way to end. it. This book is perfect for anyone looking for a sweet love story with nice sub plots throughout.
This book was cute! I didn’t realize it was part of a series, but that didn’t really seem to matter. The characters are like able- it’s a great beach read.
I enjoyed this one! It took place in a fun beach town setting with likable characters and an engaging plot.
If you're more of a closed door romance type of person, this will not be the book for you, Personally, I did think there was way too much emphasis on sex in this book. It took away from the storyline.
Overall, I gave this a three because I liked it but didn't love it. I would recommend it if you're looking for a mindless summer read.
It was my first book in the Avalon Bay series and I loved it. It's not summer yet, but I absolutely felt this light cool ocean breeze. I just immersed myself in this book and didn’t want to tear myself away from it for a minute. Therefore, I read it in a day. I just love the covers of this series and really would like to see them on my shelves. If you want flirting, witticism, love, relationships, and just a beautiful story, then this is it. This story of Cassie and Tate was just a fascinating one. My fascination was simply sparked by the fact that they went through a lot of obstacles on the way to love, and I love that they became very important to each other in the end. Of course, sometimes it seemed that they did not deserve so many obstacles and I would like to see them happy a lot longer. It is 100% on my list of the best reads of 2023 and I will buy it asap. If you just want a beautiful summer novel and miss summer as I do, then this book is for you!
For starters, I did not read the first two Avalon Bay series. I had a hard time getting into the story, though it was not missing backstory and was easy to follow without reading the prior 2 or back story.
The story follows Cassie, who awkwardly meets a local boy, Tate. Cassie is looking for her summer fling and the story follows a friends-to-lovers trope.
The story was easy to follow and included other aspects of their lives, including difficult family dynamics. Even for a beach read, I found it hard to get into and really fall for the characters.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
This is a fun and spicy book about a summer fling that turns into more. I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I read of Elle Kennedy and I cant wait to read more. If you looking for a good summer vibes read then this is the book for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy of The Summer Girl in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the ARC. The Summer Girl is the third book in the Avalon Bay series and a close second to Good Girl Complex. Cassie returns to the Bay for the summer and is determined to have a “fling” while there. She meets Tate, who quickly friend-zones her, but agrees to be her wingman. They struggle to remain just friends and their love story unfolds with an unexpected twist along the way.
Elle Kennedy has upped her spice level to 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, this is definitely an adult read. She also continues to have characters struggle with their mothers, which seems very repetitive. I do enjoy the sprinkle of previous characters throughout her books.
This is the perfect beach read. I really enjoyed reading about Cassie and Tate. Cassie's mom had me absolutely furious in this book. I loved all the other characters.
I definitely recommend this if you want a good romance that will just suck you in.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was by far my favorite of the series so far! There’s just something about Elle Kennedy’s reformed players that are so amazing.

I have never read an Elle Kennedy book before reading The Summer Girl, but I will now go back to read her other books set in Avalon Bay.
While this book started off a little slow, it really picked up and I enjoyed most of the characters, one was so hateful, but that was the point. The characters are well thought out and relatable and I adored the chemistry between Cass and Tate.
This is a great, quick read, with some spice and drama.
This book is the third installment of the Avalon Bay series. Cassie has returned to Avalon Bay for the summer to stay with her grandmother, and befriends Tate, who is staying next door. Cassie is hoping to find a summer fling, and at first, Tate is only interested in being her friend. However, before long, their attraction is too strong to deny. Will this friends to lovers romance be able to make it past the summer?
I have read this entire series, and this book was by far my favorite. Both Tate and Cassie are likable characters who are easy to root for. I enjoyed Cassie’s relationship with her grandmother and the development with her father and stepmother was great. I didn’t see the family drama near the end coming- it was a good side plot addition that created conflict in a surprising and unique way. I’d definitely recommend this book to rom com lovers, especially if you enjoy small beach town vibes, friends to lovers, and some spice!
Thank you to Elle Kennedy, St. Martin’s Griffin, and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Elle Kennedy back at it again! I swear, every book I read just gets better and better. I’ve read this series and I’ve loved it since the very beginning. Her writing is just *chefs kiss*. I can’t get enough of it or these characters.
“The Summer Girl” is my first read by Elle Kennedy. While I found the book fun and engaging, it wasn’t a story that I found memorable and I’d say it’s a 3-3.5/5 star read for me.
Cassie Soul is spending her summer in Avalon Bay, the beach town she grew up in but hasn’t spent quality time in since her parents divorced years ago. This summer, though, she plans on spending time with her grandmother before she moves and seeing the reopening of the hotel her grandparents built and ran for decades. She also plans on having a bit of fun by finding herself a summer fling. In steps Tate Bartlett, town lover boy and sailing instructor, who knows his way around girls and flings. From their first meeting, Tate likes Cassie, maybe too much, and doesn’t want to break her heart with a fling gone bad. However, the more time they spend together, the more they both realize there’s too much chemistry there to ignore, and they give in…but what happens when a fling becomes more? And what happens when the other parts of their life converge in a way that makes being together harder than they thought?
While entertaining, I will say I’m not sure this book was for me. In my opinion, the book was raunchier than it needed to be, and the storyline lacked substance. I feel like some pieces of the storyline were a bit random—Cassie’s mom and Tate’s dad being together and all that came from that seemed out of left field and am not sure was needed. I also didn’t feel a lot of depth behind the characters and most of the relationships in this book, which would have helped me become more attached to them.
With that said, this was a fast read for me. I was entertained throughout the book. This may not have been my favorite book, and I might not remember the characters for long after I finish it, but while I was in its pages “The Summer Fling” did what it was supposed to—it kept me reading, turning pages to see how it ends. If that’s what you’re looking for, then this book is for you. If you want a little more from your reads, if you desire a larger connection to the characters and events you read about, I would probably look elsewhere.
**Thank you to St. Martin’s Griffin and Net Galley for the opportunity to read the advanced copy for a honest review.**
Oh, Avalon Bay, you have my heart ♥️
Thank you, NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Elle Kennedy for letting me read this ARC.
The Summer Girl is such a great beach read — it’s a fun, easy read with many sincere moments and touches on some deep topics.
Tate is an absolute dream book boyfriend 😍
Cassie is sweet, very naive, and super relatable if you’re a nervous babbler like me 😅
This is a summer fling turned true love story with dual POV (which I love)
Highly recommend if you like: friends to lovers, small town romance, neighbors to lovers, dual POV, family drama.
