Thank you @stmartinspress for the e-arc of The Summer Girl!
Here’s what I loved about this book:
• summer at the beach
• Tate is so so swoony
• family relationships
• standing up for yourself
• bingeable read
This book was just so lovely. I could not put it down! I loved how Tate encouraged Cassie to stand up for herself and how she really grew into this stronger version of herself. She took control of her life and it was awesome!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review the ARC for "Summer Girl." I knew I was going to love the next book in the Avalon Bay Series because of how great a writer Elle Kennedy is! Mac, Gen, and now Cass are such amazing and uniques characters that fall in love in such heart wrenching ways. Cass is such a relatable character coming from divorced parents and being a people pleaser. Tate brings out her confidence, the story reminds me of Elle's previous book "The Dare," where Taylor and Conor have the same personalities but a different story line. The book definitely kept me hooked and I was able to read in about two days. A major plot twist occurs, that leaves you wondering. I know I will read another book in the series if we are given one. Overall highly recommend Summer Girl as a great beach read!
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I've read all of the novels in this series. First one I thought was ok, second one was better, but this one was my absolute favorite of the series. Usually by the third in a series, it gets repetitive or dull, but not for The Summer Girl.
Originally I assumed that this would be about Tate and Alana, I did have a little doubt since they didn't seem all that into each other when Wyatt liked her, but I thought this novel could turn that way. What was got was so much better. Cassie and Tate were a great match, and I loved watching them trying to resist each other to going all in.
I love how the book started out with Alana ending her situationship with Tate, and Cassie stuck listening to them so they wouldn't catch her eavesdropping. It was fun watching Tate, who was previously a playboy in the series, see Cassie and have that quick attraction. It was also nice to see him be self reflective and not wanting to pull Cassie into that and tried to resist.
I actually didn't see the third act coming, I had suspicions, but I was having too much fun reading about Cassie and Tate to put much thought into it. I also loved how Cassie was supportive of Tate throughout the book.
Overall, this was a cute, fun, and light read. I couldn't put this book down once I started, and really enjoyed it.
4.25 ⭐️
The Summer Girl is the third book in the Avalon Bay series. It’s definitely my second favourite out of the three, and was so good!!
I was unbelievably excited to read this and am so happy I was approved!
We meet Cassie, who is Lydia’s granddaughter. Lydia owned the Beacon hotel and sold it to Mackenzie in the first book of the series. Cassie is in town for the summer to support her grandmother through selling her home and the reopening of the hotel. While stranded at a party, Cassie meets Tate who is a playboy and in the friend group of the series. He’s been mentioned in the previous books as well. They hit it off, but fight their attraction wanting to keep their relationship as friends only as Cassie is leaving at the end of the summer and Tate has never been in a relationship, but along the way their attraction grows and they have a hard time fighting their chemistry.
I really enjoyed this! It brought me out of a slump which was great. I really liked Cassie and Tate’s characters and how well they complimented each other. They had a natural chemistry which was easy to read. I liked the slow build of their friendship to lovers, there is spice that fits into the storyline really well. It was awesome to see how the characters of the first two books were doing and catch up with them. This book really focuses on family and first loves and I enjoyed both themes. I found that the majority of Cassie and Tate’s relationship was smooth sailing and it made for a nice read. If you’re not invested I think it would be somewhat hard to get through as the story feels long. Both Cassie and Tate are very sweet and lovable. I didn’t see the problem at the end but I loved the ending. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free preview in exchange for an honest review!
Undoubtedly my absolute hands down favourite from this series. I loved it so much. The characters were relatable and fun. And the set up made me love vicariously through them. Highly enjoyed it!
The summer books by Elle Kennedy are good. But they just don’t live up to her college books. However, will I keep reading? Yes.
This was probably my favorite book in the Avalon Bay series so far! The characters were multifaceted and the chemistry between the MCs was fantastic! I enjoyed how both Tate and Cassie had to learn how to articulate what they want in order to truly grow closer to others.
Okay, that took a turn and gave me a big sucker punch in the feels! But before that, this was a sweet and sexy story with the awkward girl and the player boy. Attracted to each other but building a friendship first. She has baggage, he has confidence, and they have a lot of fun together. They had a great dynamic, they had awesome chemistry, and they had genuine reactions. That made that turn all the more painful when it happened, but that also made the changes in their lives that came about because of it, all the sweeter <3
Thank you Netgalley, St Martins Press and Elle Kennedy for letting me read "The Summer Girl" in exchange for an honest review.
This is part three of the Avalon Bay series.
I have not read the first two parts and I think this can be read as a standalone. I don't think I missed anything dramatic.
A nice beach read, this is what this was.
Cassandra is visiting Avalon Bay for the summer. She stays with her grandmother who was the previous owner of the famous Beacon hotel. She sold it to some of the girls we know from the previous novels, Mackenzie?! Anyway....
Cassie is on the lookout for a summer fling. It's the last summer before her senior year at college.
The first night she meets Tate, who turns out to be her neighbour for the summer. Sparks are flying, until Tate puts her in the friend zone. Advices by Mackenzie. Cassie is taken aback, but continues to look for her fling, with Tate as her wingman.
Of course things are not as simple as that.
This is a dual POV, friends to lovers story.
I liked Cassie as a character. I really did. She is sweet but not too naive. She is more than nice and I love that she babbles when she is nervous. She is one of these girls who have no idea that she is gorgeous.
That's a tiny minus for me, I find it cliched. She also doubts herself a lot. But she grows through the book.
The difficult relationship with her parents is also covered, which I lied. Her father married again and she feels abandoned. She loves her stepsisters, but I get the feeling that involves. Her mother is a piece of work, text book narcissistic.
The spice is good in the book. It's steamy at some parts but does not take over the story. I can read some good smut, but not when it overpowers the story. So this was well done for me.
This was a fun and quick read, no surprises here.
3.5 Stars The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy was a great continuation of her Avalon Bay series and I was very excited for Tate to get his book next.
It’s been years since college student Cassie Soul spent the summer in Avalon Bay, ever since she moved away after her parents’ divorce. Cassie is looking to get some experience with a summer hookup and picks none other than Avalon Bay’s golden boy, Tate Bartlett. Tate is instantly attracted to Cassie but, believing she’s the type to want commitment, rejects her proposition and insists that they stick to being friends for the summer. Cassie and Tate try to be friends, but their attraction to each other is hard to ignore, especially when they are living right next door to each other.
This was a sweet friends-to-lovers romance and a very quick and easy read. It helps to have read the first two Avalon Bay books first, but is not necessary. Though it is fun to see what Cooper & Mac and Evan & Gen are up to now. I really hope Elle Kennedy keeps this series going because they are always fun to read.
The Summer Girl is a hit! Elle Kennedy can truly do no wrong, and this is my favorite in the Avalon Bay series. I absolutely loved Cassie's personality and her story. Tate was also a dream come true. Together, the two of them were perfection. I couldn't have asked for a better story, and I hope the readers give it a chance even if Alana is not a featured character. It will certainly be worth it, I promise!
I was given an Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was excited when I got a copy of this book. I got an ARC of Bad Girl Reputation and wasn’t the biggest fan of the characters! This redeemed Elle Kennedy for me!
I loved the characters except for Cassie’s mom. And I especially loved Tate.
Very cute and quirky summer rom com.
I read this in one sitting so it’s a fun quick read.
What’s your favorite summer activity?
So my I’d say it’s probably going on hikes to the beach, or just hikes in general. We don’t get a ton of sunny weather where I am, so we soak it up while its here.
Cassie is visiting her grandma in Avalon Bay and is looking for a fling, not to settle down. When she sees Tate, she thinks she has found the perfect candidate. Tate has perfected the no-strings attached romance. However, when Cassie and Tate get together, things quickly heat up and they realize this isn’t a summer fling after all. However, when a secret is revealed, it puts an end to their love. Will they be able to move past it or are they done forever, just a summer fling?
I was so excited to get this one – it was my first Elle Kennedy, but shes been on my want to read author list forever. However, when I got into this one, I just found it rather boring but a quick read even at 400 pages. I hated the way Cassie was described (please can we not talk about boob size when it has no bearing) and can we get past men being hot playboys? Just the overall vibe of this one was not for me. I think there is potential here and think some people will love it, so I it is a middle of the road read for me.
I will likely read another by this author just to see if this is her norm, or a one off. This one will be published on July 18th.
Thank you so much to St Martin’s Press, St Martin’s Griffin (@stmartinspress), NetGalley (@netgalley), and the author for this e-arc in exchange for this honest review.
The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy is the perfect beach read! You MUST squeeze this book into your Summer reading plans. This is the first novel I have read by Elle Kennedy (How is that possible?) and I am hooked. The Summer Girl is part #3 in the Avalon Bay Series but having not read the first two I can say this novel works as a stand alone but I am sure you will want to read the other two as well! The Summer Girl was set in beautiful resort town, a meet cute on a starry sky beach, a slow burn friends to lovers romance with LOTS of sizzle. Tate and Cassie are so sweet together and they compliment each other well. I liked that both of them were figuring out who they were and as their 'summer fling' went on it was clear that this relationship was much more. The dual perspective alternating chapters narrated by Cassie and Tate were well done, they felt authentic to the voice of the character and seeing the story un fold from both sides added to the story. For being such a beachy-steamy romance novel I have to say it had a lot of depth and real emotions were explored. Although I would say this book is a tad hotter than I normally read, the intimate scenes felt purposeful and there was so much chemistry I couldn't have stopped reading it if I wanted to. Elle Kennedy has a gift for balancing the substance and the steam in this book. The Summer Girl is the type of book that can get me out of a book slump. I smiled and blushed through this entire book and I adored every minute.
Thank you so much to Net Galley and St. Martins Griffin Publishers for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel by Elle Kennedy in exchange for my unbiased review. I have to say I was so excited to get selected to read this novel and it didn't disappoint.
another elle kennedy book i could not put down and absolutely had to finish it one sitting.
cassie returns to avalon bay to help her grandmother pack up before moving to boston and she has one goal on her mind: find a fun summer fling. it seems like her perfect opportunity arises when she meets golden boy tate at a bonfire. that is until he friendzones her real quick. tate’s determined to be just friends but he quickly realizes it isn’t what he wants.
this book gave me all the summer vibes and i loved the playful banter between cassie and tate with both of them bringing out the best of each other!
thank you netgalley for early access to this title!
I like this one the best out of this series. I love the way the two main character meet and the way they interact with each other. I think what I really like the most is their interactions with their parents and other characters as well. It makes it a lot more realistic. I just feel this one feels more real and I connected with the character a lot more. It reminds me of The Deal and their banter which I absolutely love. I can’t wait to get my hand on the physical book.
Is there anything better than when Elle Kennedy is in top form and writing romance novels that just make your heart sing? Probably not.
Cass and Tate are quickly joining the ranks of my favorite Elle Kennedy couples, and I especially loved Cass' Briar U roots (just another reason to love them more than ever). The chemistry between these two is so palpable that it jumps off the page and just made me smile every time they were interacting. The humor, always one of my favorite elements of an Elle Kennedy book, was so distinctly on point, especially when some old Avalon Bay favorites pop up, as well.
But what I really loved most was how both Cassie and Tate grow because of each other. Cassie and Tate each have their own respective troubles with their lives; for Cassie, it is her parents and her feelings of being unloved, and for Tate, it's the idea that he'll never branch out to what he really wants to do. The way they encourage and support each other is so well-written and portrayed, and it makes you root for them all the more.

Comedian Taylor Tomlinson has a joke about the difference between men and women—women are surprised when they find a man who is good in bed, men are surprised when they find a woman they can fall in love with. “I don’t know, I just, like her, dude!” The men say. “I want to like, lick her heart? I don’t know.”
If that joke was a book, it would be The Summer Girl. Cassie is a college student looking for a summer fling, and Tate is a twenty-three year old man with a reputation for hooking up. Sounds fun!
My problem with this book is probably summed up by another Taylor Tomlinson joke: we were all garbage in our twenties. And the characters in this book prove that point (sorry!)
To be fair, I thought Cassie’s side of the story was sweet. She had a strong character arc, finding her courage to stand up to her parents for what she needed from them emotionally. That’s actually a very mature thing, and Elle Kennedy handled it deftly.
It was harder for me to relate to Tate, unsurprisingly. But he was a fine love interest, and again, probably realistic for a character in his early twenties.
I think this book will resonate most with college kids, who are figuring out a lot of the same things as these characters.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for an ARC for the purpose of this review. I’m giving it three stars. This was my first book from Kennedy and I liked her story ideas but found them to be predictable. I do think this will be a fun beach read vs how I just read it in winter! The setting in the book is a fabulous beach town and that carefree summer lifestyle of meeting boys and going out!
