I love this series! And The Summer Girl was the perfect addition to this series. I really hope there is more to come.

Nothing says summer vibes to me like another book from Kennedy's Avalon Bay series. In The Summer Girl, Cassie is back in town to spend time with family and is looking for a summer fling. Tate looks like the perfect candidate, but he friend-zones her to avoid hurting her. The summer gets complicated as these two get closer and revealed secrets may cause some problems.

This is the second book in this series that I have read and I was excited to receive it as an ARC. I like Kennedy's style of writing and how she develops her characters. This book was not an exception. It is a good summer read, but it has substance as well. Conflict was hinted at in the synopsis, so I was interested in what was going to happen and how it would be resolved. This definitely held my attention and I hope that there will be another book in this series!

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

Let it be known that after reading 6 of Elle Kennedy’s books, I have finally found a favorite!! Cassie and Tate are officially my favorite couple and Avalon Bay is my favorite series!

I don’t want to go into too many specifics because I don’t want to potentially spoil anything, but let’s just say that the plot had me binging the whole book. I loved the return of old characters and seeing how all the couples are interconnected in this universe. I loved how the chemistry flowed organically between Cassie and Tate and it was a breath of fresh air at how well they communicated with each other! Even the third act breakup felt like ripping off a bandaid in the grand scheme of things. Like I genuinely understood why it happened and wasn’t upset with it (which is high praises for me). I did feel like the ending was a little rushed BUT, I HIGHLY recommend this book and really hope this universe continues!

Uuuugh I just love Elle Kennedys writing so much. I devour every single book I've read of hers. This books felt both so realistic and fantasy inspiring. Tate is the most gentlemanly fuckboi to ever exist. I loved him. He's perfect. This entire story was truly perfect. Even the third act breakup was beautifully done. Highly recommend!!

Elle Kennedy’s books and writing always feel nostalgic to me as her books are some of the first I read when I got back into reading. I try to read everything new she puts out and I still enjoy her work even with the many books I have read after she sparked a new love of reading for me.

The Summer Girl is a sweet friends to lovers romance about Cassie and Tate. Cassie initially was drawn to Tate’s carefree, play boy personality for a specific reason, but Tate shot her down after realizing how his usual antics are less than what she deserves. They are both surprised when it doesn’t end after their first meeting- they are actually neighbors for the summer.

This was a good, fun summer time romance that made me want the beach, water and sun. I liked how Cassie and Tate’s relationship developed, as well as how they changed as people throughout the story. This book had the usual third act break up Elle’s book’s normally do, but I can see why it had to happen and it added an extra element to the story to keep me intrigued.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC!

“College student Cassie Soul hasn’t spent an entire summer in Avalon Bay in years, not since her parents divorced and her mother spitefully whisked her away to Boston. Now that her grandmother is selling the boardwalk hotel that’s been in their family for five decades, Cassie returns to the quaint beach town to spend time with family, ring in her twenty-first birthday…and maybe find herself a summer fling…”

Elle Kennedy sure does know how to write a book and keep my attention. I love her previous series’ and loved this one as well.

3/5 stars

As much as I liked this book, I think it’s my least favourite so far in the series. I will say it’s a very easy beach read. It’s not too serious that you have to think that hard. It gives very much boy meets girl and girl next door vibes.

Likes,
A good summer competition during summer keeps things fun. I really liked the MFC she was very likable. I liked they had some mental health reps such as her mom being a narcissist and how that’s effected Cassie and their relationship. I think that Cassie and Tate had good chemistry and I believed they genuinely had a good friendship.

Dislikes,
Miscommunication trope… nough said *rolls eyes angrily* It took a bit for the story to really get going. I wish they had gone more into Cassie relationships with both parents and kind of annoyed the grandmother didn’t step in more. I feel like the friend group tight knit fam was really missing in this book compared to the previous novels. Also, I was really over hearing about Cassie’s breast. was a little juvenile. And finally, the twist at the end…. Like wtf it was def a shock but was it necessary *bangs head*

I will probably continue to read the rest of this series as it comes along because I want to see everyone in the groups story.

Thanks, netgalley for the E-arc for an honest review!

I've tried to read this on many occasions and just can't get into it. I do apologies. I may go back to it in the future but it's unlikely.

Thank you for the ARC Copy of The Summer Girl.
This was a good one for the summer and glad I got to it before fall came around. This was a nice contemporary romance and I enjoyed the story. It was fun and light hearted and just something you can enjoy reading and escape for a little bit.!!

This might be favorite book ever written by Elle Kennedy! This series is so fun and enjoyable. I highly recommend!

This is a pretty basic rom-com. Story is pretty standard. I had an issue with the main dude being 23 and calling girls “chicks” like, really?

Also this felt a little too long. There’s a bunch of characters that are mentioned occasionally but then don’t amount to anything even though they’re supposed to be Cassie’s friend group for the summer. The reason Tate doesn’t date her in the beginning is also silly because a girl tells him not to and then we never see her again.

The whole thing with the grandma’s hotel could have been taken out, along with a random section of beach games? They didn’t contribute to the story and dragged it out longer than it needed to.

Then we had a huge drama bomb hit at like 85%? That was wild. I thought we’d be avoiding the third act breakup, but they snuck that in at 96%. Again, why bother?

Can we also talk about how Cassie is supposed to have a fuller figure, and it’s something she’s self conscious about and her mom gets on her about it cause she’s awful, yet the girl on the cover is thin? Not sure why they didn’t portray Cassie on the cover as she’s described in the book.

Overall though this a decent summer read. It’s a summer rom com that if you’re looking for something fluffy and easy to read on the beach, this is what you grab.

A fun summer read that I could not put down!

The Summer Girl is book three of the Avalon Bay series of interconnected standalones. Cassie is back in Avalon Bay to help her grandmother pack up her home so she can go live closer to her family. while she is there, she wants to have a fun summer fling before heading off to college and after seeing Tate at a bonfire approaches him with the idea of a friends with benefits situation. He turns her down because he is afraid, she would catch feelings. He agrees to be her wingman for the summer but of course we could have told them that would not end well! I loved the banter between the two and I loved that they developed a real friendship before diving into a romantic relationship. I did not see the twist coming at all !!

In my opinion, this was the best book in the series! Tate and Cassie were amazing and their chemistry was there right from the beginning, making their friendship so fun. I loved Tate's character. Cassie was such a great FMC. Her mom was awful, and I felt terrible but was glad when she learned to stick up for herself. The third act conflict was heartbreaking. I usually am not a fan of a 3rd act break-up, but saw this was a unique plot device. The cameos the other Avalon Bay books was so fun!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins Press for this ARC. This was a fun and cute summer romance read. I did relate to the relationship with the mom, and the relationships with dad, grandma, etc were heartwarming. As others have said, the objectification was a miss for me, I don’t know why it needed to be a focus. But overall, this was a fun easy read.

This one was okay. It’s always sort of a hit-or-miss for me every time I read and Elle Kennedy book.
That’s probably why it took me months to finish this one.

Anyway, it’s about a girl who grows up with a lot of insecurities thanks to her horrible mother; and then one summer she comes back to her hometown and meets a guy who is all sunshine and they sort of start what’s supposed to be just a fling but obviously turns into something more.

It had its moments of cuteness, but mostly I feel like it dragged. And I have a suspicion some people will love appearances by characters from other books but I couldn’t keep them straight so most of the time I was just blank.

The whole plot twist was a little late in the game for my liking, but it really made the ending a lot easier to go through after a bit of boredom from the middle of the book.

I mean it's Elle Kennedy! So of course, it will be steamy, and Cassie and Tate were the cutest couple!! Perfect summer read!

If Elle Kennedy writes it, I’m going to read it. Super fun, young, summer romance. Steamy and full of drama! *swoon*

Cassie and Tate were cute, but I thought it was really dumb that he snuck over into her room when he had an empty house. The split POVs were not at all even.

I absolutely loved The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy! It's the perfect escape read, filled with relatable characters and a delightful romance. Cassie and Tate's story is heartwarming, and the book's blend of romance, family drama, and friendship made it a joy to read. Definitely a must read!
