Final Thoughts: How to Catch Santa is an entertaining, lighthearted read that brings festive fun to bedtime. Ideal for moms wanting to capture their child’s holiday excitement and imagination in a creative, joyful way!
My son is a tad too young for this book (he is only two) but this is exactly the kind of book I want to read to him as he grows. I loved the incorporation of creative STEAM-based traps because I am confident it will help carve out problem solving methods we don’t have the opportunity to teach him with other holiday books. I am interested in picking up the remainder of this series for the same reason. Thank you for the opportunity to read this to my son!
I received this book for free for an honest unbiased review from Netgalley.
I wish more books were this well written. Characters were witty and the setting fantastic.
Silly book about Santa being busy. Too complicated for littles and the bigs didn't care for it either.
We loved this! A super fun read to get us into the holiday spirit. My son loved this the most, thinking it was such a great idea to try and catch Santa. The illustrations were fun, we always love a story with rhyme and just the concept was great. My kids had a blast looking at all the pictures and figuring out all the traps. This is a wonderful book for kids to get them ready for Santa. I would absolutely recommend this to readers.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a copy.
I had a great time reading this book. Santa is out delivering presents, and comes across some clever traps. He sees each one coming, but has fun pointing them out. Even though none of them work, he is impressed by a few of them. As this story comes to a close, we see Santa head back home after a job well done. Most kids will have a lot of fun reading this book.
I had to request this advance copy from NetGalley because I love this series, especially about Santa Claus. Of course children want to trap Santa! Of course he knows how to avoid everything that is set to trap him. See how his magic avoids it every time!
I usually pair these books with a special friend as a gift. I think it would go in a stocking this time for something or someone special.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED How to Cstch Santa Clause. The creativity found in both the story and the illustrations were simply magical. This is the Christmas story I didn't know we needed, and I'm thinking it will be part of many Christmas Eve traditions.
We love the “how to catch” series. If you’re looking for a cute seasonal book then look no further. This story was adorable with all the clever ways the kids tried to trick santa into being caught.
How to Catch A Santa Claus by Alice Walstead. I love ‘the how to catch’ series each story is bright and colorful. The words keep children’s attention. I cannot wait to show my granddaughter the 📚 books.
What a great addition to the How to Catch series!! These books are a favorite in our house and I’m excited to add this one to our little library!! The great thing about this book (and the entire series) for me, are the amazing illustrations!!! They are full of color and life – gorgeous!!! I’m also a sucker for a rhyming book – especially when it literally makes me laugh out loud!!! Oh that Santa is a tricky ole friend!!! Thank you to NetGalley and Alice Walstead for providing an advanced reader copy of How to Catch Santa Claus in exchange for an honest review.
A cute book showing various traps kids set to try to catch Santa while he delivers his gifts. I enjoyed the pictures, and the rhyming of the story. Some of the traps were also quite clever.
I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
I struggled with the flow of the story. It felt a bit choppy and didn't feel like the words had the rhythm I expected them to have.
All the childrens traps for Santa Claus were creative and seemed to get more elaborate the further the story went on. The elves and reindeer made me laugh.
It was a cute and funny concept but the story itself just didn't do it for me.
A fun addition to your holiday picture book collection. The title is so captivating, and the colorful illustrations keep the reader engaged. The text can seem a bit bumpy at times, but the creative contraptions invented to catch Santa keep your attention. Is Santa smart enough to escape the traps and get all of the packages delivered on time?
It is a fun and cute addition to the How To Catch books. It keeps the kids attention, as Santa is able to avoid the traps but they get the elf/reindeer. The pages are colorful and can be a quick read or a good one for younger kids to read. The text is larger which helps read the story, as well as allow the kids to follow along.
If you are looking for a seasonal book to read and have younger children, I would recommend this one.

a fun and funny christmas book that my kid loved. the illustrations were pretty and the story was fun with following santa around and seeing how he escapes all the traps set up by children
As always with the How to Catch books this was automatically a family favorite. Can not wait for the Holidays to add this to our rotation. An adorable book to get the kids laughing and excited for Santa.
Well I don't really see the need for this book, which is as polite a way of saying I won't be recommending it. Children have booby-trapped their home to capture Santa, but he's wise enough to not get caught, the end. The rhyming starts off well, and then goes just to pot with the rhythm and meter, and the point and narrative of the multiple and ever-more-complex traps just isn't there. A disappointment.
This series is SO adorable and fun, AND with a Christmas twist? Hard to resist not scooping this one up immediately! This book is perfect for all ages, and even better as a night book during winter. I also loved the creative yet safe/funny tricks the kids used to trap the Big Guy. Highly recommend to add this one to your home library!
This was a fun one to read with my children. So many children dream of catching Santa Claus. It was fun to see what traps the kids in this book came up with. My children loved it and it will be one that we read again during the holidays!
