The Rose Girls a detective Katie Scott book 9 by Jennifer Chase is an absolutely thrilling and unputdownable story. I have been reading this series from the one of the early books in the series.. The mysteries have only got more deeper and the evolution in Katie' s character is also remarkable. Its almost like growing up with the character.
Detective Katie Scott and Mc Gaven have been requested to attend a murder case in Coldwater creek. The visual of the first murder victim a young girl, left in the woods with a word tattooed on her and the staging of the scene, stays with Katie and she agrees to help the local police. Their efforts at gathering evidence though seem to be progressing, they have a nagging feeling that the town folks are not co-operating. Is that true or are they facing some other sinister eventuality. Do pick up this book to know the story.
The plot line is layered, the story gets more intricate every few pages and the end is unpredictable., The working relationship and chemistry between detective Katie and her partner has become stronger from the earlier story and the trust is deeper. Katie and her relationship with her fiancée has deepened too and a glimpse is visible in this story too.
As always, I would say that if you love a twisted mystery and a kick ass detective then this is the mystery for you.
I thank Netgalley and Bookouture for accepting my request to review this book and the views expressed are mine alone.
Creepy Cold-water Creek has never had a murder.. until now , within 48 hours, 3 bodies are found. Katie Scott and her partner McGaven and K9 Cisco are suddenly called upon to solve the murders after getting stuck in the eerie small town.
The beginning had me hooked with its sense of impending doom, and the dread I felt was sickening!
Everyone seems to be hiding something and covering up for everyone else, and getting information from anyone is like pulling teeth.
All sorts of conspiracies came to mind, and I had so many different ideas of what the BIG secret could be. It was 'unnerving and aggravating' ( Katie Scott's words). It actually reminded me of some current crimes where nothing is what it seems and you don't know who and what to believe and trust.
This is book 9 in the Katie Scott series, but it has no spoilers for previous books.
All in all, it kept me engaged and was a suspenseful and intriguing read.
Thank you to netgalley and bookouture for the arc in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Thank you to bookouture for having me on the blog tour
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Bookoutre for my copy of #TheRoseGirls by #JenniferChase
What a read ! A great book that I couldn’t put down.
A 15 year old girl has been found dead tied naked to a tree with the word More carved into her back, is this foretelling more murders.
Katie’s heart breaks for Ivy and with no one in the small town willing to talk to her, she fears for the other teenage girls living there.
Then two more bodies.
Can she find out what is happening before anyone else dies.
Katie and Sean are stuck in creepy sinister Coldwater Creek. It’s like a Stepford town and Katie knows things aren’t right. Three teenager girls with rose tattoos are murdered and left in the woods. Can they track down the villain or villains responsible?
I had a hinky feeling about one of the characters early on because that person’s reactions just seemed off.
I loved all the scenes with Cisco because he’s just the best, especially when he’s on the attack.
Katie’s punishment suited her—more time with Chad!
My first book by this author, and it definitely will not be my last. This was a brilliant thriller/mystery. I was on the edge of my sit the whole time trying to figure out who the killer was.
To be honest I knew something was off with the town, there is always something very strange about small towns. The grandmother was also very fishy, not showing any real emotion. If my granddaughter died I would be breaking down constantly and you wouldn’t be able to stop me.
I also didn’t get why the chief was giving the detectives the run around when they were there to help. I maybe would have liked to know more about the Dr and how far involved she was with the whole case.
Joshua was by far my favourite character and it was very nicely wrapped up at the end of the book.
Would definitely recommend this book and I will be going back to read the backlist.
An intriguing and challenging mystery for Detective Katie Scott as she fights for justice in Coldwater Creek. Katie, her partner Detective Sean McGaven and forensic supervisor John Blackburn are on the way home from a conference when they are run off of the road in Coldwater Creek. With no other choice but to stay until their vehicle is fixed, they remain in town, just in time to be called to a murder scene. A young girl with a rose tattoo has been murdered, her body left in the woods. As they begin their investigation, there is something menacing about this town which seems shrouded in secrets. Two more bodies, friends of the first victim, are soon discovered in the woods. A hidden room, a town on edge and unwilling to talk, a missing woman…were three young girls murdered to keep the town’s secret? Katie soon realizes that the entire town, including local law enforcement, may be part of the evil that has overtaken the town. Can she and her team get justice for the girls before they end up dead in the woods? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Once again, Katie Scott and Sean McGavin are back at it - this time seemingly by accident, when they break down in a small town filled with some weird secrets. Immediately there's a weird vibe as the sheriff and the people feel off, and Jennifer Chase is, as always, great at creating a tense atmosphere and really amping it up the action right away. But be warned, the crime scene descriptions are pretty brutal and will give you chills down your spine wondering what kind of monsters Katie and the crew will be dealing with.
The tension and suspense is the real star of this book, as there are some great supporting characters that really add to the creep factor that have the characters looking over their shoulders, from an old forest hermit, to shady police officers, etc. I don't want to say too much but this one's all about feelings and ickiness and just spookiness. It's great!
Another winner in a great series. There isn't as much using the characters forward in this one, but the plot of the mystery takes up the bulk of the book in this one, so no complaints there. I'm sure we'll get more in the next one, which I'l for sure be picking up!
Detective Katie Scott is called to a murder scene in a neighboring city whose police force is not experienced in investigating this type of case. The body of a young girl, Ivy, is found tied to a tree with a rose tattoo and the word "more" on her back. As Katie is investigating, Ivy's two friends are found in the woods with the same tats. What is behind these violent crimes? Katie encounters a code of silence in the town and little help from the local authorities. How are these murders tied to the disappearance of Ivy's mother decades ago? It is an exciting read involving secrets and the unexpected. You won't be disappointed.
Apparently this is book 9 in this series, but it can be read as a stand-alone as I did.
After reading this, I have definitely become a fan of this series & will be searching out book number one.
It was a well written fast paced gripping read that drew me in from the start.
Detective Katie Scott & her partner Sean McGaven have been run off the the road on their way back from a conference.
They find themselves having to spend the night at Coldwater Creek as their car is badly damaged.
The local chief of police has found them both a bed for the night.
He surprises them the next morning, with a request for their help, with a young girl who has been found murdered.
It starts to become apparent things don’t seem right in the town as they begin to investigate.
Plenty of tension with some gripping twists & turns throughout.
The chilling intriguing storyline soon had me engrossed & I couldn’t put it down.
The story flowed really well & i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wow! This one made my skin crawl a little! Detective Katie Scott and her partner, Detective Sean McGaven, along with their forensic supervisor, John Blackburn, are just traveling through Coldwater Creek after attending a conference in Las Vegas. They receive a call for a request of assistance in Coldwater Creek. A young woman's nude body has been found tied to a tree with the word MORE carved into her back. It first appears that a sadistic killer is responsible. Then when both her best friends' bodies are discovered just a day later with words carved into their bodies, they realize there is more to this story. At first look it appears there is a serial killer haunting the town of Coldwater Creek. However, upon further investigation, Katie and Sean realize there is something more sinister taking place in the small town of Coldwater Creek. The local police are no help at all, and appear to have no idea how to process a crime scene, much less solve a murder.
They also have a feeling that the police and the people of the town are hiding something. They just cannot quite put their finger on exactly what is going on. Katie is homesick and wants to go home, but she feels compelled to solve these murders in honor of these three young women who were so brutally slain, as well as to give their families some closure. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out they are also in danger from an unseen enemy while they are investigating this mysterious crime. Katie goes home to get her K-9 officer, Cisco. to assist. I just fell in love with Cisco!
From that point forward the mystery gets more bizarre. I found myself tapping on my Kindle as fast as I could handle reading each page because I had to know what these people were hiding. I love the character of Katie. She is fearless and tenacious, even while dealing with PTSD.
This was the first time I read anything by Jennifer Chase, but I will be going back to read the first 8 books in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed her style of writing and the characters in the book as well!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the first book I have read from this author but definitely will not be my last. A solid four star read with twists and turns galore that keep you guessing throughout. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
I’ve been a long time fan of Jennifer Chase and The Detective Katie Scott Series. This is the 9th installment and I was thrilled to have a chance to read it early, and once again it does not disappoint! You don’t necessarily have to have read the previous books in the series, you could follow along without and read it as a stand-alone, but it’s so much better when you know the relationships and character development!
Detectives Katie Scott, Sean McGaven, and their crime scene tech John, are heading back to Pine Valley from a conference when they are run off the road in Coldwater Creek. The next morning they are woken by the Chief of the town, who’s requesting their assistance on the murder of a young teenage local. They quickly realize nothing is as it seems, and the next day 2 more teen girls are found dead. Everyone in town is resistant to talking to the detectives, and everyone seems to have something to hide, even the small police department.
While a few things were predictable, this was a fast paced and gripping addition to the crime series, with several twists, and a lot of edge of your seat moments . I love the bond and partnership that Katie and McGaven share, and her K9 Cisco is such an awesome addition to each novel.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback. Can’t wait for the next installment!
This is book 9 in this series and as well written as the others, intriguing with twists it grips the reader from page one. Whilst investigating the murder of 3 teenagers and being helped or hindered by the local villagers our detectives strive to find the killer.
Number 9 in the series and another great read. While driving home in a storm Katie’s car is driven off the road and she, McGaven, and their colleague John are stranded. At the same time a young girl is murdered and it falls to them to investigate. It soon becomes apparent that all is not what it seems in this small town and a great tale unfolds . Another enjoyable read in this great series
Another brilliant book in this gripping crime series.
Katie and Gav are stranded in a neighbouring town after they are driven off the road.
They find somewhere to stay but the next morning they are woken by the local Chief asking for their help.
A teenage girl has been found dead and it looks like murder, and the Chief does not have the experience to deal with it.
He asks the Sheriff for help and finds out Katie and Gav are already there so they lead the investigation.
Soon two other teenagers are found dead and Katie and Gav have their hands full trying to find the killer.
It’s soon made clear that they’re not welcome here but Katie is determined not to be driven away.
There’s lots going on in this town and Katie wants to bring them down as well as catch the killer.
This is a great crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Another exciting instalment in this series featuring Detective Katie Scott and her crew, especially Cisco. Lots of strange happenings in Cold water Creek and lots of secrets.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Rose Girls’, book 9 in the Detective Katie Scott series written by Jennifer Chase, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Detectives Katie Scott and Sean McGaven are passing through Coldwater Creek on their way home to Pine Valley when a car forces them off the road damaging their car. While staying in a local hotel waiting for their car to be repaired they learn that the body of Ivy Miller has been found in the woods. The next day the bodies of Ivy’s two friends Nikki and Dawn are also found. Their investigation becomes more intricate and convoluted by the townspeople who are clearly reluctant to speak and Katie and McGaven get the feeling that something’s not right in Coldwater Creek.
My definition of an exceptional thriller is one that you simply can’t stop reading and for me ‘The Rose Girls’ is just that. From the very first page there’s been tension and suspense and I’ve been gripped with each twist and turn trying to guess what’s happening as red herrings get thrown into the mix to cause confusion. I always look forward to reading anything by Jennifer Chase who has the ability to write chilling, unpredictable and extremely entertaining thrillers with characters that appear so genuine I feel like I’m meeting up with old friends. This has been another riveting thriller that’s had me reading well into the night, unable to stop reading until I’ve reached the final exciting chapters as Katie puts her life at risk to save others. I can’t wait to read book number ten.
Really love this series and book 9 does not disappoint.
Detective Katie Scott and Detective Sean Mcgaven along with her K9 partner Cisco make a wonderful team to solve murder mysteries. That dog will make you want one if you don't have one already (like me!!!).
Once again this is a fast paced story set in a small town and I love these books as I get transported there easily with a talented author like Jennifer Chase...
A fantastic read, I am loving this series and it gets better with each book. This has a gripping story line with many twists which had me gripped from the start. I look forward to reading more
