I loved this book! The characters are easy to care about. The plots always different. Part of a series, but I can't see why they can't be read as standalone. I read this one in a day. Every time I went to put it down, something happened so I had to continue reading!! In my opinion, a book well worth reading.
I was hooked after reading the first chapter of The Rose Girls! If you like action packed cop thrillers this is the book for you. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!
Another great addition to the Katie Scott series!
Katie, her partner McGavin, and forensic tech John are all on their way home from a conference when they end up stranded in the small town of Coldwater. As they are waiting for their car to be repaired the Police Chief comes to them asking for help. A young girl has been murdered, and they could use all the help they can get.
As Katie and Gav begin investigating they end up with more questions than answers, and a town that seems just helpful enough... but still hiding something that could be important. The case gets more and more complicated, and when two more girls end up dead Katie and Gavin know they are running out of time to catch the killer and figure out what's really going on in this small town. There is literal danger around every corner, and twists and turns everywhere, keeping me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how Katie and Gav were going to survive.
I can't wait to see what kind of case they will be solving next!
A tiny town. Three teen girls murdered. Detective Katie Scott, Detective Sean McGaven and forensic supervisor John Blackburn find themselves stranded in the town as the murders occur and are asked to assist, but there is more going on in this town than meets the eye.
Jennifer takes you on a gripping ride to as once again Katie and Gav try to unravel what is going on in this seemingly sleepy town. With each turn Katie is targeted, but are they attempts on her life or warnings.... but nothing will stop Katie from pushing forward, again going rogue on her own.
If you are a fan of this series, book 9 will have you hooked!
Thanks for the ARC NetGalley.
I have been a fan of this series since the first book. The characters are fantastically loveable and relatable. In this book, Detective Katie Scott is passing through Coldwater Creek when she asks to assist in a murder investigation- a 15-year-old girl with a crudely drawn rose and the word "more" carved into her.
Small-town murders are my guilty pleasure, and add in culty vibes? I am down. However, there just were a few things that simply did not vibe with me in this story.
I love this series but I feel like we don't get enough of a backstory on the main characters throughout, especially Katie herself. Getting to know each detective would've made the story a bit more engaging and meaningful. In addition, the writing was sometimes hard to follow because there were a few phrases that simply were not phrased correctly or sounded strange, I had to reread a couple of times to really comprehend: "It's as if a ghost themself haunts that very river.". I understand using it for emotional play but people don't talk like this.
Lastly, I felt that the ending was a bit lackluster and the book seemed like it was building to something different than it did. I wouldn't say it's a terrible ending- it didn't make me want to throw the book or anything, but it was just a tad disappointing.
Overall this series is a great read for those who love detective thrillers and mysteries.
Great book! Another good book added to a great series! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder ,mystery, serial killer, and great police work! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They're well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
I have read all of the Detective Katie Scott books, and this one maintained the quality of the series. Is the series out of this world amazing? No, but the books are always engaging and entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective Katie Scott is on her way home from a conference with her partner Gav and John the forensics head. Their car is ran off the road and with no way of fixing it they are forced to stay in the neighbouring town.
Then a 15 year old girl is murdered with the word MORE cut into her back. The chief of police requests their assistance as the wee quiet town never experiences crimes such as this.
Two more teenage girls are murdered and nobody is telling them the whole truth. Can Katie, Gav and Cisco solve the murders?
This latest instalment to the series did not disappoint. I couldn’t work out who the guilty ones were and I felt Katie and Gav’s frustrations!
The book starts without Cisco and I was worried he wouldn’t make an appearance. He is a brilliant character despite being a dog!
Highly recommend this whole series.
This was fast paced, twisty and I have to say dark. Murdering 3 young girls to keep the towns secrets.
I really like Katie, Cisco and Gavin. And I was a wee bit surprised at one of the bad guys.
I also loved the old guy in the woods. One of my favorite things about this series is Katie’s tenacity and her constant fight for the underdog.
I can’t quite put my finger on her relationship with Chad. And John is another great character. Looking forward to more.
The 9th book in the Detective Katie Scott series was okay. Far from my favorite, it was a solid addition. It felt stilted to me - transitions and dialogue didn't feel as smooth to me as in the past books. I found that it took me a few chapters to really get into it. This one I figured out pretty quickly too - no real surprises or "wow" moments. Even though, in my opinion, it wasn't the greatest, I would still recommend it and this series. This series has strong characters that evolve in each book. I look forward to reading what comes next for Katie.

I was disappointed in this Detective Katie Scott novel. Oh, the characters were great: Katie, Gaven and Cisco. Great characters, by the way. I truly enjoy this trio.
I don’t particularly care for books about conspiracies or police corruption. Which made me disappointed in the ending of the novel.
It started out great. A fifteen-year old girl is found murdered in the woods. A tattoo of a rose is inked on her. She will not be the only young girl murdered.
Just my type of book!!!
I’m glad I was able to read some of the earlier Katie novels. I’ll put this one down as a fluke.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.
3.3 out of 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGally for the arc, in exchange for an honest review 📚.
Detective Katie Scott thought she was just passing through Coldwater Creek, until she was asked to assist with a murder investigation. A fifteen year old girl has turned up dead. There is a crudely drawn rose, and the word "more" carved into her back. All is not what it seems in coldwater creek.
I enjoyed the beginning of this story. I am a sucker for small town murder books with a side of cult/witchcraft vibes. I was intrigued right from the beginning, this story starts off with a bang.
There are a couple of things I was not a massive fan off.
Firstly, I would have liked to see more about Katies life outside the murder investigation. This is book nine of a series, surely she has more character traits and personal intensity than just having a few phone calls with her fiancé. I really needed a bit more character depth from all three main detectives, it would have really fleshed this novel out. I don't feel like I got to know them well enough while reading this.
Secondly, there are a couple of awkward phrasings during conversations. "No, you don't want to do that. It's as if a ghost themself haunts that very river" - people do not talk like this in real life! But most of the writing was pretty good, so I can definitely look past the occasional weird conversations.
Thirdly, I was disappointed with the ending. It was not was I was expecting (but not in the built-up awesome shock kind of way). I was so excited with the book building up to a small town cult plot... And that's REALLY not what I was. I did not strongly dislike the ending, I was just a bit disappointed. It felt a little bit out of the blue.
All in all, this was a quick-paced, easy read. This book would be good if you need to get out of a reading slump and enjoy murder mysteries.
I will posting a review of this book on both my Instagram and TikTok accounts within the next week. My handle for both of these medias is "Tahliareadstoomuch".
The Rose Girls by Jennifer Chase was an okay read for me. It does have credible characters and a fairly solid mystery. There were times that I felt like I was right there in the middle of the action.
The Rose Girls follow Katie, Gavin, and a cute dog named Cisco as they try to find out who is killing teenage girls. I am a sucker for a canine character, and Cisco did not disappoint. However, I found myself skimming some chapters because it felt like the story dragged a bit. It was sad how the girls died and kind of scary how it all played out and who was involved.
I like police procedural books that have a strong female protagonist. The Rose Girls is another small-town mystery with secrets around every corner.
Overall, a good police procedural, and Cisco saved the rating. I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book and this author.

Geez! I feel like I ran a mile! This book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! There are so many twists and turns that I was dying to know who did what?! I thought I had it figured out but I really didn't know anything until the end! Lol I really enjoyed reading this one! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, a great who done it and mind blowing twists!! Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Detective Katie Scott and her team take a shortcut home through a small town and are run
off the road by a car in a narrow lane. They have to spend the night in the town and are
roped into assisting in the murder of a young girl with the word "MORE" carved into her back.
Steps are taken to protect the girl's friends who are also murdered, and the words "NEVER"
and "FOREVER" are carved into their skin.
Katie finds that there is a lot of information, but the key clues are being withheld by the local
police and townsfolk.
Will they find the murderer before he kills again?
I personally love a police procedural with a strong female leader. The clues being followed
up and the suspects being discarded one by one. I loved this book and could not bear to put
it down, except at 3am, I had to get some sleep! :-)
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for
an honest opinion.
I’d like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have been a fan of this series since it first came out. This time we follow Katie, Gavin, and Cisco as they try to find out who is murdering teenage girls in a small nearby town. Why is everyone so secretive including the police, what are Katie and Gavin missing? An interesting read right from the beginning, I couldn’t put it down.
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Suspenseful to say the least…a talented author has written a novel of mystery and intrigue. What will happen next? A sad tale about murdered teens…difficult subject…this reads like a television thriller. This is an intriguing series…I like reading about the escapades of Katie. Enjoy..
Jennifer Chase always pushes her heroine, Detective Katie Scott, to the limit,,, and in The Rose Girls, it’s multiplied, Katie, her partner, Gav, and forensic officer, John, are forced off the road after attending a conference, In another county, and three hours from home, they are forced to stay in an inn whilst their car is repaired. Then, a 15-year-old girl is found murdered, and the county sheriff calls Sheriff Scott to ask for their best detectives,,,, and Katie and Gav are already in town. Nothing is as it seems, and Ms, Chase has added so many twists,,, and wonderful characters (Joshua), that the reader will stay up well past his/her bed time to see if Katie and Gav survive. Absolutely fabulous! Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
