Your Dream For Me by Alison Schaffir is a sweet young adult story of love and friendship. Scarlett is seventeen and has dreamed of becoming a fashion designer for years, a dream that is supported by her parents and her best friend Macie. While waiting for Marnie and exploring the costumes in her school's theatre room , Scarlett meets Nathaniel, a new student with an artistic dream of his own, to become an actor. When Scarlet is gifted a sewing machine by her parents she turns to the drama teacher for help as they produce the school costumes for performances, and soon she is stitching away with the added benefit of being close to her new crush Nathaniel. Everything in Scarlet's world seems to be going to plan until she has a falling out with Macie , and then to make matters even worse Nathaniel starts to pull away. As the end of the year approaches it looks like her friendships are unravelling and even her newly found sewing skills may not be enough to save them.
I really wanted to love this book, the premise sounded really fun but unfortunately it was something of a let down for me. The writing style was stiff and a lot of the dialogue felt stilted and unnatural . The characters didn't feel very realistic, particularly Scarlett who was depicted as incredibly sheltered for a seventeen year old on the verge of moving to New York. Also what teenager dreams of being a designer without any skills other than drawing, surely she would have done some sewing by this point in her life, and then to be able to flawlessly execute a fifties inspired prom dress within weeks of learning to sew a straight line , it was all just a little too easy.

Super cute YA romance. Loved how realistic the characters were and how relatable everything was. It's been a minute since I've read a high school romance like this and it has been a breath of fresh air.

Thank you to NetGalley for the e-arc of this book 🥰!

GUYS THIS WAS SUCH A CUTE BOOK!! The perfect ya romance…I wish it existed when I was in school lol

It’s a heartfelt book about falling in love for the first time, figuring your life out and beautiful friendships that last a lifetime! Very fast-paced, but genuinely I had a smile on my face the wholeee time because SCARLETT AND NATHANIEL??? Literally meant-to-be, I felt like I was right there with her every time she saw him and my heart was pitter-pattering with hers 🥺!

I just wish it was a tiny bit longer, because there were some parts I felt like didn’t get enough emphasis and I wasn’t ready for it to end 🥲, but I have to admit the ending was bittersweet and absolutely beautiful ❤️!!

I can’t WAIT for you all to read it 💕

She dreams of becoming a fashion designer; he imagines himself at the Oscars giving speech for winning the Best Actor award. She hides behind the curtains, carefully sketching costumes, gowns and anything fashion; he captivates the crowd through his words and gestures, leaving the audience at the theater in awe.
Scarlett is a 17-year old whose parents were both inclined to theater. One morning, she finds herself inside their school’s costume shop, standing in front of a boy he’s never seen before. With all the stress and pressure from work, school, and college applications nearing, her little crush on the new theater senior adds in the equation.
With a little support from her best friend Macie, and few encouragements from the theater guy, Nathaniel, Scar was able to practice her sewing skills by shadowing the school drama’s teacher during their prep for the 3-day theatrical show which she participated in as an usherette. Using the skills she learned from it, she made her very own Scarlett original gown. All of these brought her opportunities she never would have imagined of being offered before.
This book transported me back to my high school days. At first I thought it was too immature and I was too old for it. But as I turned to the next page, which I’m warning you you’d be compelled to do, everything just went smoothly.
The author was able to capture typical day-to-day scenarios in a high school student’s life. While it didn’t have the typical happy ending of a romance story, it had one that was closest to reality and just what was appropriate to the target audience. Simple and straightforward.
At a glance, this would have been just perfect for teenagers. But this kind of story is sometimes what we all need to read to remind us of what it felt like to have dreams, whether they may appear silly or unreachable at the moment. And after all, we were all once teenagers.

Just finished this book and it was quite an adorable read. The author did a great job of introducing both Scarlett and Nathaniel and building their relationship as the book progressed. I think if anyone is looking for a Teen YA romance this is definitely one to pick up!

This sweet story about Scarlett and the world of theater and fashion. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it. This book was super cute and emotional. During reading I love the interaction of Scarlet with other characters in this story. After I read the description I was excited about it because this reminded me of Girl Online by Zoe Sugg. And I was not wrong, I love it, it gave me same emotions of sweetness. In addition to her problems in her personal life, her life is complicated by the fact that Scarlett has the last semester of her junior year. (it’s so stressful). She must solve all the problems at the same time…soo…can she? All the action in the book really revolves around the theater, maybe it was too much of it and I wanted to see something else. But all in all, I like everything, the relationship between Scarlett and Nathaniel, her actions to move, her character. Overall, a super cute book about theater and fashion, perfect.

This book was absolutely adorable. I loved how realistic and refreshing the characters and the setting were. I haven't read a 100% YA high school romance book without spice in a long time but it was so refreshing. Nathaniel and Scarlet met during the first scene and I loved watching their friendship grow🥹.I wish there was more conflict from the get go. I know that if I had read this book 4 years ago, I would have rated it higher. I wish there had been more closure for the Macie SA story line, but other than that, this book was great!

This was so CUTE! I laughed, I smiled, I cried - basically all the emotions, and all in one sitting! This was super well-written and easy to follow. The characters were flawed but loveable, and the dynamics between them were great. Especially Nathaniel and Scarlett!! Nathaniel was so sweet and I loved the dialogues between him and Scarlett. Their relationship evolution was perfectly portrayed. Additionally, the side characters weren’t one dimensional, unlike in other YA contemp romances.

Overall, a super quick, engaging read filled with everything you could ever want. I highly recommend this!

Scarlot Clarke was in her final semester in high school.
When  she meets Nathaniel Wildephlh  in th the schools costume cupboards  ' I wish I  had an instructor who could teach me to use a sewing machine  and he can! Will she be ready for the the end schools end of term formal dance? In there are  rooms there are sewing machines and cutting tables, and lots of fabric. That is going to help her too reach her dream of becoming a fashion designer in the future.
Nathaniel has just moved the school area this year and is good looking and popular.

Best friend Macie has been Scarlett best friend since third grade
It's the night of the dance🕺! Something happens that will stay with forever with the friends forever.

We find out it is two weeks until next ball and end of semester and assignments and examms are coming up. However she is making Mace
Macie's  dress. Will she be able to finish it on time?

Mr Walsh ask her a question that will make her stand  out  on her high school 🏫  transcript,  'thank you  for year's opportunity' Scarlett reply happily.

The book has a strong ending and i enjoyed all the characters and there was just enough information about each of them.

I just finished reading this book and thought that it was a very well-written book. I loved the internal monologue of the main character and her interactions with the rest of the characters. I liked the pacing in the beginning and at the end, but in the middle, it got kind of muddy for me. My favorite character was Gavin as I loved his advice and could relate to his character. Overall, this book was a very cute romance book that had me smiling the entire way through. There were even parts when I wanted to cry.

I loved everything about this book Scarlett and Macie friendship is something I aspire to have with my girlfriend. I feel like I relate to Scarlett being protective of your friend and finding out what you're doing with your life. It's a quick read on romance, friendship, and most importantly staying true to yourself. I loved the ending, totally didn't expect it but well worth the wait.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author's team for generously providing me with an ARC.

This is a sweet story that follow Scarlett, a 17 year old high schooler in her junior year. She has dreams of being a fashion designer, which I find was a nice touch in the story. As a character herself she is flawed like anyone else, and it is refreshing to see a teenager portrayed in a way that is not picture perfect.

In her junior year she meets a boy, senior Nathaniel who is the lead in the play, and the book follows their year getting to know each other and eventually becoming something more. I liked him a character too, he was sweet and clever! Most of the story is centered around their theater program as well as everyday high school life. The two of them go through plenty of ups and downs throughout the novel. It is one of the first YA books I have read in a while that isn't sugar coating life.

The overall story is very cute and I read it in one sitting. It is what it presents itself to be, a YA contemporary romance, no complaints there. My only two reasons for why this doesn't get 5/5 stars is because I am a sucker for a HEA epilogue scene, and because at times it was a bit immature for my liking. This is a realistic novel that shows the true nature of life, so I can't be too harsh, and take my rating with a grain of salt as I am older than the author's target audience. I think any teenager would love this one!

Your Dream For Me by Alison Schaffir

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 Stars
Pub date: 3/7/2023

This is a charming YA coming of age novel. 17 year old Scarlett is navigating through her junior year of high school and all of the teen angst and drama along with it. The opening of the novel itself captivated me instantly! I loved the themes of theatre and fashion. Scarlett and Nathaniel's relationship was very sweet. Her relationship with her best friend Macie felt genuine. I loved how Macie pulled Scarlett out of her comfort zone. Scarlett was very loyal and went above and beyond for her friends. The character development was played out wonderfully. I enjoyed watching her hard work and sketches of her fashion ideas come to fruition. I was worried about the ending but was pleasantly surprised! It was executed perfectly in how it was realistic for a couple their age and how she tied the title in with the ending. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is how quickly she mastered sewing - it seemed unrealistic. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would read more of Alison's work in the future!

An excellent read for young adults. Some deep worries and emotions as friendships, boyfriends and teenage nemeses all bubble away as friends work on a school play. A great group of teens with a couple of baddies that really engaged me. Some cute first kisses and supportive parents too.

A cute YA novel that’s easy to read and easy to enjoy.

Schaffir’s novel centres around 17-year-old Scarlett, a high school junior with a keen interest in fashion and fashion design. Together with best friend Macie, she navigates the bumps and drama of her junior year.

The story begins with a meet cute between Scarlett and the story’s male lead, Nathaniel, a theatre-loving senior. Their relationship develops over the course of the novel, with its ups and downs and the occasional drama. There’s the classic high school mean girl (Tina) who likes to stir up trouble as well.

The book also does touch on serious topics such as sexual assault, but does so in a not overly dramatic way that doesn’t detract from the story.

A few bits of the book did feel a little over the top for me (in terms of how the characters reacted), but then again it’s been a few years since I was in high school and I was probably the same!

Overall it was a good read that was easy to get through. Definitely the kind of story that sounds like it might have a sequel.

Scarlett has vision's of being a fashion designer and her parents are very theatrical, but she has never shown any idea of wanting to be involved. Her bestie, Macie is in theater though and when Scarlett goes to support her, she meet handsome, Nathaniel. Nathaniel encourages her to get with the drama teacher and join theater so she can work on costumes.
She makes a dress for Macie and everyone realizes her talents.
