A fast-paced read with a great twist. Highly recommended for super compelling read-in-one-sitting appeal!

Overall a great thriller, little different than most others I've read.
I didn't love all the characters, but in this story that is a good thing. The plot was good, flowed easily, and had a great twist in it. The ending was absolutely surprising!

This is such a quick and easy read. I read it start to finish in one sitting. It gave me all the Tarryn Fisher's the Wives vibes, so if you know me, you know I loved it. This one definitely leans more on romantic suspense for the first half, rather than psychological thriller. But I was here for it!

I loved the layers of the story and the characters were easily developed so I latched on quickly and rode the story until the end.

My only complaint is the big twist was easy to predict very early on (like, 20% in). Even still, I enjoyed myself.

Ooooooo someone needs a smack into reality. Adira finds out her husband Gabriel is cheating on her with not one but two women. After things end with one of the women, Jocelyn, Adira finds herself in a friendship of sorts with her. She’s wants her life back how it was with her husband as hers and only hers.
I went from being annoyed with Gabriel for the first part of the book to being annoyed with Adira and Jocelyn. And holy twist!!! Did not see that coming.
I’m not fully sure how I feel about this. Was leaning towards 3 stars until the end. The twist was enjoyable and definitely made the book.

Ok this was an interesting book. Definitely had a different ending than I have ever read and not what I expected. I’m going to give this book 3.5 stars…I know it’s a good book when I am so invested that I absolutely hate the main character. It takes a skilled writer to evoke such a strong emotion in me while reading.
I also enjoy the authors take on how trauma can affect the brain, definitely thought provoking. The twist really got me, was a surprise for sure.
Something that I didn’t love is how many unlikable characters there are in this book, I had a difficult time really latching on to anyone. Overall, I would recommend this book because it is very different than the thrillers I have been reading lately. I would caution if your triggers are child sexual abuse, it is alluded to in parts of this book. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I just finished reading "The Other Mistress" by Shanora Williams. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. In order to properly review this book you almost have to divide it into two parts...before the reveal and after...More about that later.
This book is about a very successful woman, Adira, who is afraid that her husband is having an affair. She turns to his other mistress Jocelyn, to get the other woman out of the picture so she can have him to herself. As I was reading this book, I kept wondering why such a beautiful and successful woman like Adira would want to remain with a loser like Gabriel...he was unemployed, lying to her and being unfaithful. I was almost going to put the book away because I was unimpressed with Adira until...the big reveal>. Which changed my perspective on Adira and Gabriel and their relationship. In the end, everything came together perfectly, there was even a delicious finale which kept the reader guessing.
What I liked about this story was that the author wrote it in a way that left the reader shocked with the big reveal. It was crafty and well written.
What I didn't like was it almost took too long to get to the explanation for Adira's actions. I was almost going to put the book down. In the end I am glad I didn't.
Well written characters, important relationships that played important parts in the ending of the story, and an almost perfect ending. (Gabriel was a little too perfect in my opinion). All in all, a unique story idea that created an entertaining read.

The Other Mistress is heart pounding and jaw dropping!

Adira is a successful women that runs her own silk company. She has success and wealth, but is struggling with life, as her husband, Gabriel, is cheating on her. However, Adira decides that she isn’t going to put up with this, and reaches out to her husband’s mistress, Jocelyn, to tell her to leave Gabriel alone. In spite of the situation, Adira likes and envies Jocelyn’s internal fortitude and confidence, and they forge a strange sort of friendship when Adira discovers that Gabriel has yet another mistress. Perhaps they can team up to convince the other mistress to leave and to convince Gabriel to stay true to Adira.

In addition to the story alternating between Adira’s point of view and Jocelyn’s, we also get a 3rd storyline. At first, the reader doesn’t know how this 3rd point of view relates to the first two, but by the end, it’s crystal clear and shocking!

As Shanora William’s warns in her intro, there are elements of this book that deal with both child abused and sexual assault. They were important to the story, but did not take over the storyline or the majority of the book. The Other Mistress was a thrilling ride, and I recommend this to people who enjoy twisted psychological thrillers. Thank for to Kensington Books and Shanora William’s for the advanced copy! Shanora Williams will drive. You. Insane. I feel like a crazy person after this novel because Williams is a genius with her thrillers. *Still picking up jaw from the floor.*

I feel like this was a mashup of Tarryn Fisher’s The Wives and Colleen Hoover’s Verity but instead of a deep need for revenge, Adira is in tremendous personal pain from her past and her struggles are more than simple revenge.

I finished this book in record time. I could not stop, which never surprises me with Williams’ work. The answers don’t come easy nor are they what you would expect.

This is a wild ride from start to finish with loads of unique twists and turns to keep you engaged. I found this very unique to the typical domestic mystery and I also liked the idea of having a high profile women that has more power than the cheating husband, I thought it would be interesting to see this relationship dynamic. Although I did find Adira annoying sometimes (perhaps she was meant to be) and I wished there was more POV’s of Jocelyn, however I understand why this was done and it is definitely worth finishing the book as the ending is amazing and I’m wondering if there might be a sequel?

Wow just wow! I dug right into this book and couldn’t put it down! I will admit in some parts it did seem somewhat redundant but then boom, definite some twistiness going on that will blow your mind. I did not see that come at all!!
Thank you to the author as well as the publisher for the opportunity to read this one early. I will be definitely looking for more of Shanora Williams!!!

Of course, though as most books have their twists and turns, as does The Other Mistress. The book starts with our main man Gabriel who is married to Adira Smith-Cortez when she believes her husband is cheating on her and so she sets off to catch him in the act. The thing is though she gets a surprise when he kisses another woman - not the one she knew about previously. Turns out Gabriel had a mistress already named Julianna and now he has a new one aka The Other Mistress called Jocelyn. On a whim, Adira messages Jocelyn, and the two meet face2face and strike up a friendship to get help to eliminate Julianna as Adira loves Gabriel and wants him for herself. As the book goes along, we have a history show up about one of our characters when she was a child and the abuse, she suffered with her sister Panda. I have to admit, I did not see this ending coming when all the characters true colours were revealed and that the villain turned out to be a good person and the victim was well - plain cray-cray yo. This was a great read and kept my attention and if you love family dramas, multiple lives, and romantic suspense with a bit of mental health chucked into the mix then The Other Mistress by Shanora Williams is the read for you. WOW! This book was such a wild ride! I loved the short chapters and the fast pacing. All the twists and how the story unraveled had my head on a swivel! I felt dizzy by the time I finished and that's exactly what I want when I finish a thriller. This is absolutely a must read for all thriller lovers! OMG.. My mouth is hanging open.. I don’t even know what to say without giving some sort of delicious twistiness away.. I could not put The Other Mistress down.. And the book hangover is absolute hell.. ;)

Ahh okay, golly gosh… where to begin…
I initially started out with this read thinking I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to continue. The regular references to brand names and luxury labels felt a bit contrived, a bit of a cheap way to set the scene. However the more I read the deeper I was pulled into the story, wondering where on earth is this storyline heading?
Then suddenly the mother of all plot twists hits. I read a lot of thrillers and I DID NOT see that coming!
I am so glad I preserved with this read.
Good thing there’s a TW at the start though, that’s not to be taken lightly so encourage you to think about whether portrayals of abuse would trigger you and act accordingly.

No one writes a thriller like Shanora! Before I get started with my review, I have to thank the author for her trigger warning. Kid stuff hits me hard as a mom, but knowing it was coming made this OK for me to read.

"The Other Mistress," is about a woman, Adira, who has overcome so many things in life that she almost has it all. What doesn't she have? A faithful husband. That's right, her husband, Gabriel, is not only cheating on her with a sexy club owner named, Jocelyn, but also with a make-up artist, Julianna. Adira will do anything to keep Gabriel though, and I mean anything...

It was a great read and I loved the way you wrapped it up with, well you know how it ended. I didn’t see that coming but was done perfectly. Such a thrilling, roller coaster of a ride. Now I am on to my next book by Shanora.

Okay, I was very into this book from the beginning and then the about half way through I was less intrigued. The curve ball of Disassociated Identity Disorder should have been introduced earlier in the book; it would have made the flashback inserts make more sense. It also kinda just seemed thrown in to finally tie the book together and end it. Other than those issues it was overall pretty entertaining
