Paralegal by day, vigilante by night Billie is an interesting character driven to help provide justice to abused women she comes across. Well maybe not in the classical "vigilant" sense with guns ablazing and fist-a-cuff action. Rather she manipulates things so that the offender is brought to light for their crimes. But it doesn't always work out well and there may be a body or 2 scattered about in direct relation to her activies.
I enjoyed the writing style with short snappy chapters and the various plot twists that come about. Who can she trust and is there someone out to do her harm?

Could not fully get into this book unfortunately and ran out of time to read it.
From the first quarter that I did read I enjoyed the writing style of the author! I think if I had more time I might have enjoyed this book more
When Billie, a paralegal, and her team lose a case at work that also loses Billie her job, she spirals and loses it. Dr Grange is the ideal man, but he is also an abuser and manipulator and he just got away with it. In order to save the next girl from going through his fury, Billie will become the next girl.
This however, doesn’t fully summarize the plot. Billie does not put herself in harms way and date Dr Grange in order to catch him doing these terrible things and out him. No, Billie has a bad habit of being a vigilante in trying to better the world and she wants to use her detective skills to prove he is a bad guy and out him. But when Grange ends up dead, and it seems someone is trying to frame Billie for the murder, she must try to figure out who is after her before the get her.
I really enjoyed the writing style. Billie is taking us on the ride with her and talking to the reader, telling her story both past and present to better understand what’s going on. Quick chapters and fast paced writing. Billie however is just a terrible person. Not only that but she was just insufferable to me and I couldn’t get on board with her.
The plot didn’t match the synopsis so I got a story I wasn’t expecting but I didn’t all hate it.
I am unable to read this book on the NetGalley shelf app due to the font size. I would like to thank you for the copy but I could not read it.
Billie wakes up in a random guy's bed with absolutely no memory of how she got there. A few drunken memories start sinking in and she remembers that she is getting fired from her job today. Her law firm lost a massive case and the partner thinks the loss is Billie's fault.
Billie is outraged. The man from the case, Dr. Samuel Grange, is getting away with something huge (I don't want to say more and ruin the plot). Basically, Billie decides to take matters into her own hands to get revenge on Dr. Grange.
I love a good revenge thriller. This one was super interesting and definitely kept me hooked throughout. It was an easy read and I found myself racing through in order to find out what would happen. The author did an excellent job at incorporating plenty of twists and turns. Definitely a juicy read!
Thank you Simon & Schuster Canada, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first book by this author and I have to say I loved the writing style. I loved the concept of this story and Billie. I was immediately drawn with the way it feels like Billie is talking directly to you and justifying her behaviours. It felt like listening to a friend tell you a story. I found myself cheering her on and turning the pages quickly. For me, this story had all the aspects that I enjoy in a thriller. It twisted and turned and arrived at the end wondering where the story will go next. This will be a story I easily recommend to others.
This is a 4.5 stars rounded up to 5!! THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD! If you're interested in heart pumping, fast action thrillers, then this baby is for you!
I love the way that Pip Drysdale has written Billie and how we experience everything through her eyes! This creates incredible characterization that takes you from top to bottom of thrilling theatrical layers. This is such a great book. You will not be disappointed to have this book as your Summer road trip partner!
Thank you for the ARC Simon & Schuster CA!
Billie, a paralegal wakes up in a strangers bed, with no memory of how she got there. Was it her fault? Did she drink too much? Did she get carried away the night before? As memories start to come back slowly, something doesn’t seem quite right.
This book will have you guessing what is going on right from the beginning. Although it is quite fast paced there were some parts that I felt did drag a little, but I did still enjoy the book and found I wanted to find out what was going on with Billie who was a hot mess.
This book is for you if you like:
- a main character who is a hot mess
- a story line that keeps you guessing
- books with short chapters
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a digital arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Julie here....where do I start with The Next Girl by Pip Drysdale? It was so good!
A psychopath. But, just who is the psychopath?
Burner phones, VPNs, fake profiles.
A Porsche.
A fired paralegal who is VERY good at finding out information.
A feline called Button. Not Buttons, Button.
A woman with a huge urge towards retribution and vigilante justice.
A very busy Instagram presence over multiple accounts.
Some decent sex with Hot-Josh.
A nosy neighbour called Mrs. Benson.
A red heart tattoo.
The Serenity Prayer.
That's all I can say because I don't want to give anything away!
The Next Girl by Pip Drysdale is really really good. Buy it my fans, buy it.
Thus book is very contemporary. People say and some very cruel things, making insecure people even more insecure to the point of some form of self destruction. This book centers on one woman who is trying to make amends to this women who lacked support when they confronted their personal bully. Ironically the protagonist’s name is Billie, and almost single handedly she confronts bullies. The result is a path of destruction, ,and her ultimate success but also her loneliness good prevails yet again. What I took from the book is the importance of believing in oneself and standing up for oneself, at all costs.
This book is full of surprises, starting with a horrible day at work. Billy loses her job because her lawfirm lost a huge case. It allows a rapist and killer to be set free. Billy doesn't like losing and she is determined that man is going to jail. She goes to a bar-- next day wakes up in a strangers bed and she can't remember what happened the night before. And so The Next Girl begins and I promise you won't be disappointed. Many twists and turns and what Billie finds out you will not believe. Nothing predictable in this book. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this story. It was quite tale! A 4 out of 5 for me.
"The Next Girl" by Pip Drysdale is a gripping psychological thriller that tells the story of a young woman named Billie who is a modern day Vigilante. This book reads like a confession to the reader.
Pip Drysdale's writing is sharp and engaging, and she does an excellent job of gripping you right from the first page, building tension and creating a sense of unease throughout the novel. Billie is a complex and intriguing character with some heavy baggage.
Overall, "The Next Girl" is a thrilling and suspenseful novel that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. Pip Drysdale's writing is superb, and her ability to keep the reader on the edge of their seat is truly impressive. The internal writing process for The Next Girl was pretty similar to every other book I've ever written: messy, terrifying, elating, exciting, challenging and steeped in self-doubt until I was done. But my physical process was (and always is) simple: I wake up every morning, put on coffee and write. It doesn’t matter if it’s only for half an hour, I just need to start my day that way or I’ll struggle to get back to the page all day. But this is my only writing rule and aside from that anything goes!
I wrote this book during COVID when I couldn't travel for research the way I usually do, so I based Billie in the apartment I'd lived in when I lived in New York in my early 20s. I had her go to the same bars I loved. I used Google Maps. I listened to a lot of vinyl and read books for research. But there was also a lot of serendipity that came into play with The Next Girl. For example, music plays a strong role in the story and, while deep in a research rabbit hole, I learnt that Miles Davis lived a couple of doors down from Billie when he first moved to the city. I learnt that Bob Dylan was rumoured to have penned Blowin’ in the Wind at one of the venues I’d chosen for a scene. I learnt that Jim Morrison frequented another. I also learnt that her full name, Wilhelmina, was particularly fitting when going by the German origin meaning (as was another character’s name I can’t mention for fear of ruining a plot twist!). Ultimately, like all books it had its unique challenges, but I love Billie and I loved writing her story, it was a lot of fun.

In the vein of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘵, and 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯, this gripping suspense novel follows a relentless woman determined to uncover the sinister secrets of a powerful man—with shocking consequences.
A single day of misfortune at work. A night of intoxication. A random Instagram follow. These seemingly inconsequential events set the stage for a life-altering ordeal, but whose life will bear the devastating consequences?
Waking up in a stranger's bed, Billie grapples with hazy recollections and an overwhelming question: What transpired last night? The man beside her remains unfamiliar, their encounter a blank slate in her memory. Moreover, how did she find herself in Coney Island of all places?
Reality crashes down, and memories resurface—a tragic reason propelled her to that bar, seeking solace in alcohol. Her law firm suffered a colossal defeat: Samuel Grange versus Jane Delaney, a high-profile assault case. And somehow, it appeared to be her fault.
But it wasn't.
Now, Samuel Grange roams free, poised to repeat his heinous acts against other unsuspecting women. Billie is left grappling with a profound concern: What about the next girl? And the one after her?
Helplessly, she watches as he continues his cycle of abuse, powerless to intervene.
Or is she?
Perhaps she can singlehandedly expose his true nature, revealing his darkest secrets to the world. If she succeeds, everyone will finally see the monster he truly is. She can ensure he never harms another woman again.
Yet, there's a catch—a perilous catch. To safeguard the next girl, Billie must assume her role, infiltrating Samuel Grange's twisted world. But such a daring move comes with considerable risks, potentially leading to her own demise.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did! Genuinely a home run of a thriller that is fucked up in the best way possible. 1000 twists in all the right places.
I absolutely loved reading this book! It's the kind of story that grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go until the very end. The main character is an absolute mess, but in the best way possible. Every single thing seems to go wrong for her, but she remains determined to get justice and right wrongs. The tension in the story is palpable, twisted, and thrilling, which made it impossible for me to put the book down.
What I loved most about this book is that it kept me guessing until the very end. I never knew what was coming next. Overall, this is one of the better thrillers I’ve read this year. It's intense, captivating, and full of surprises that will keep you entertained until the very last page. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping and engaging read!
If you like suspense, twists, and characters with issues, this book is for you. I connected with Billie early on which had me invested in the story and on the edge of my seat the whole way through for this wild ride. After how much I enjoyed The Next Girl, I would definitely read more of this author's books.
The Next Girl by Pip Drysdale
I am all about the revenge of the party girl type of books and movies that are trending right now! This one was clever and highly entertaining. Similar to others I’ve read this year but different enough to keep me interested.
Billie is a paralegal, a career she went into so she could find dirt on horrible people and get them what they deserve.
I adored the writing, it was captivating and like a girlfriend was venting to me. I flew through this book, and I think it would have been fantastic on audio.
This came out on May 2nd! Thank you to @simonschusterca for the ebook!
Thank you NetGalley, Simon &Schuster Canada and the author Pip Drysdale
An interesting mystery about a woman seeking revenge on unfair tribunal results.
How far will you go to see the results you want to see?

Billie just lost a big case. Determined to get justice for her client, Billie sets out to prove that Dr. Samual Grange is not a good man.
This was a good female vigilante story that kept me on my toes. It had so many twists that I started to wonder if there were too many twists. But in the end it was a really enjoyable read.
I have always found first person narratives a little off putting, especially when the protagonists speaks directly to the reader, and for me this writing style took away from the story.
This was my first book from Pip Drysdale. It really hooked me from the first chapter and kept me engaged the entire time. I loved the first person point of view from Billie. It made her likeable and kept me rooting for her. With short chapters, the pace of the story was nice and I liked the ending! A good thriller for those who like the genre. Will definitely be picking up more books from Pip Drysdale.
