I L.O.V.E.D. this book!!!!! It hooked me right from the start and I couldn't put it down! I read it in one day.
This book would be amazing as a limited series. I really hope that happens. *fingers crossed*
This was my first time reading a book by Pip Drysdale but you can bet I'm going to check out her other books.
On a shallow note -- the cover we've got here in Canada (and I'm assuming the US but don't know for sure) is aces and matches the story (it's the one with the yellow title over a distorted face). It's gritty and works really well.
The other cover, w/ the NYC skyline and Billie's face, makes it look like a romance novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Simon & Schuster Canada through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Simon & Schuster Canada!

"The Next Girl" by Pip Drysdale is a gripping thriller that will have readers hooked from the very first page. Billie, the protagonist, wakes up in a stranger's bed with no memory of the night before. But that's just the beginning of her troubles. She has lost her job and feels guilty about a case involving a wealthy man named Samuel Grange, who was accused of sexual assault.
Driven by a desire to protect the next girl from becoming Grange's victim, Billie takes matters into her own hands. She digs deep into Grange's past and uncovers a horrifying history of manipulation and abuse. As she gets closer to the truth, she realizes just how dangerous Grange is and how far he's willing to go to protect his secrets.
But Billie is a fighter, and she's not willing to give up. She assumes a new identity and infiltrates Grange's world, hoping to expose his true nature and save his next victim. As she gets closer to her target, the risks become greater, and the danger more intense. The stakes are high, and the suspenseful tone keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
Drysdale's masterful storytelling creates a world of darkness and fear, where the line between good and evil is blurred. Readers will be drawn into Billie's world, rooting for her to succeed and hoping that she can overcome the obstacles in her way. With each new revelation, the tension builds, and the twists and turns keep readers hooked until the very end.
"The Next Girl" is a thrilling and engrossing read that will leave readers breathless. It's a must-read for anyone who loves a good mystery and a strong, determined protagonist who will stop at nothing to bring justice to the victims.
The Next Girl is a standalone psychological thriller by bestselling Australian author, Pip Drysdale. The bold compelling cover drew me in to pick up this exciting and unique mystery story. The style of the book has the main character talking directly to the reader. I rather enioved this different stle of narrative and it make me continually wondering about whether what Billie is telling us is the whole truth and her careful timing in what to reveal and when to the reader. I loved Billie as a character. She had depth and some morally grey motivations and behaviours. What I didn't love overall was the mystery which felt a little all over the place. It’s hard to say more without spoilers but it felt like the story was leading in one direction but then kind of went in a different direction. The author pulls all the loose ends together and ties everything up with no cliffhangers. I liked the writing style and found the book easy to read, engaging and made me want to keep reading. Overall, I'd highly recommend and I will be looking for future releases by this author.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an arc.
Holy dynamite ! This was propulsion to the MAX ! I held my breath more than once ! Amazing read ! Fast and twisty and full of turns ! Buckle up ! This was an easy 5 star ! Bravo
Billie wakes up in a strange guy’s bed. What happened last night and how did she get to Coney Island?
She was in the bar drinking because today she’s going to get fired. Yesterday, her law firm lost a high-profile assault case: Samuel Grange v Jane Delaney. And it looked like it was her fault, though it wasn't.
Samuel Grange is free. All Billie can think is: What about the next girl? And the one after that?
But there is nothing she can do to stop him. Unless she can expose the truth. But the only way to protect the next girl is to become the next girl.
This book was an OK read for me. I found the characters a little hard to connect with.
I 👏🏼 love 👏🏼 this 👏🏼 book. An awesome mystery/thriller, with such a likeable protagonist (even though she has a weird hobby….. IYKYK). It’s a super unique premise and perfectly written - Billie’s voice, cadence and trains of thought are relatable, entertaining and sharp. The story-telling feels effortless, even though the plot is complex and layered. I didn’t want it to end. We have ALL done something we aren’t proud of… a little lie that turns into a big lie, or turns into more little lies. I actually found this character and her struggles refreshingly relatable. I loved how this didn’t culminate in your typical “big dramatic fight scene”, it was subtle and smart and so well played. Bravo !
