“Nosey” Jodie Parker is now officially a (part-time) detective in the tiny English village of Penstowan on the Cornish coast. This puts her in the awkward position of working directly for her boyfriend, Nathan. Soon, a man found drowned in a water trough along with a missing mermaid statue begin a case that will challenge them both. Are the local fishermen, correct? Has The Siren, a vengeful mermaid, come back to wreak havoc because something fishy is going on in the nearby protected sea? Or is there a more modern reason for A Cornish Seaside Murder?
This is the sixth book in the Nosey Parker Cody mystery series. It is always a pleasant afternoon when reading about Jodie and her family and friends. The mystery was relatively easy to work out the solution, which makes this book a calming read. Overall, 4 stars for a likable cozy mystery.
Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.
I love this series, the books are easy to read with a great mystery.
Jodie an ex policewoman has a catering business, but when a am turns up dead in the small Cornish village during mermaid week, she’s back to her defective skills to find the killer.
The characters are great to read about and the location is brilliant.
Another great mystery which will keep you reading into the night.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
Book six in the Nosy Parker series and it is fun to spend some time with these likeable characters.
Jodie Parker has found herself working two jobs, one assisting her partner, DI Nathan Withers, with police investigations and the other, running her growing catering business. When a fisherman in the town is murdered and the investigation gets underway she finds herself very short of time and begins to feel her family (dog, daughter and mother) are suffering as a consequence.
It was enjoyable, for this book at least, to watch Nathan and Jodie working together. They make a great partnership at work and at home and have some very entertaining conversations. The mystery is very involved and leads to some dangerous moments. The crime is a serious one and the ending is perhaps a little easy but then this is a cosy!
Well worth four stars and I recommend this series to fans of a good cosy mystery.
It's busy tourist season and the Penstowan Mermaid festival is starting when Jodie, whilst dressed as a mermaid, discovers the body of a local man near the church. The man has been murdered and the team swing into action.
When a university student home for the holidays is discovered unconscious in someone else's home, Jodie and Nathan have their suspicions that this could be drugs. However, there is something off and when two other men go missing, Jodie's nose is twitching.
This is a nice cosy mystery, nothing too strenuous, but engaging all the same.
3.5 stars rounded up.
A Nosey Murder Mystery #6
Former Met police officer Jodie 'Nosey' Parker is working a trial period as an auxiliary Detective Sergeant with the Penstowan police force. But living and working alongside DCI Nathan Withers - while still trying to grow her catering company - brings its own challenges, especially when Jodie's attention is quickly taken up by the suspicious frowning of a local fisherman. While locals alike are falling under the spell of the annual mermaid festival with its captivation legends of Sirens luring fishermen to their deaths. Jodie and Nathan fear they may have found themselves in the middle of a very real - and very dangerous - turf war.
This book can easily be read as a standalone. Jodie 'Nosey' Parker is working as an auxiliary Detective Sergeant alongside her boyfriend DCI Nathan Withers. On this occasion they are investigating the death of a fisherman. The locals blame the mermaid whose disappeared from the church. The pace is slow to begin with, but it soon picks up.I also thought some parts were quite predictable, but that took nothing away from my enjoyment of this story. With great characters and location, this is a good cosy murder mystery.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUk #OneMoreChapter and the author #FionaLeitch for my ARC of #ACornishSeasideMurder in exchange for an honest review.
Quite a gentle murder mystery - think midsummer murders but set in Cornwall. Nothing too gruesome but still a pacy read. Loved the characters and would like to read more involving them.
“A Cornish Seaside Murder” the 6th instalment in The Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series by Fiona Leitch. I cannot get enough of this series, if you love mysteries set in England this is for you!
I love visiting Cornwall and Jodie, Daisy, and her mum but let’s not forget about Germaine the Pomeranian! This time we are attending the annual mermaid festival with its captivating legends of Sirens luring fishermen to their deaths. The description of Jodie dressed as the evil mermaid had me laughing as well as a few other scenes in the book.
The mystery was really interesting, well plotted, and had just enough twists to keep you engrossed and wanting to know what happens next. I really hope there will be a book 7 coming out soon, as I can’t get enough of this series.
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from Harper Collins UK. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A wonderful murder mystery/police procedural/catering/ love story. Even though the topic has its dark moments it is a gentle easy read - perfect for holidays. It’s set in Cornwall and the descriptions of the area are spot on. Recommended.
It was so nice to return to Penstowan and spend some more time with Jodie and her family and friends. This time with her being an auxiliary DS she is much more involved with the crimes being investigated and it's so interesting to see how she still manages, eventually, to remain the same 'Nosey' Parker as before while helping Nathan get to the solution!
This story started off quite slowly and worked its way up to speed as events happened around the town. When I got to around 2/3 of the way the plot was moving along at a nice pace and I started to get an idea of where it might be heading. Although I had guessed correctly there were still a few twists and surprises in store especially from Daisy, Jodie's daughter!
This was a really good cosy crime story with great characters which is very relevant to the time we are living through right now!
Jodie 'Nosey' Parker returns with a big splash!
The Cornish Seaside Murder is the sixth book of A Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series. Fiona Leitch delivers again with an exciting plot (with a serious undertone, a deviation from her usual plots), fantastic banter, situational humour and a dash of realism. This cozy mystery was a comforting blanket. I was rooting for Jodie throughout this book. The protagonist is so personable, relatable and strives for her best in a professional and personal setting. It was beautiful to see her work as an auxiliary police officer alongside her boyfriend, DI Nathan Withers. Without giving too much away, brace yourself for numerous twists and turns, folklore, blossoming friendships, heart-tugging family moments and an exciting ending!
Thank you, NetGalley & One More Chapter, for inviting me to read this ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.
This is the sixth book in a fun cosy murder mystery series set in picturesque Cornwall. This one is full of mermaids, fishermen’s tales, a dead fisherman and something fishy going on out on the water. Part time detective/ part time caterer Jodie Parker and her boyfriend DCI Nathan Withers will have to get to the bottom of it before there are more deaths. An enjoyable quick and light read infused with a good amount of humour.
Thank you NetGalley, Fiona Leitch and HarperCollins UK for the ARC of
A Cornish Seaside Murder. This is my personal review.
This is book 6 of A Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series.
This time Jodie 'Nosey' Parker finds herself helping with a local mermaid festival and a body is found in the churchyard of all places.
Nosey is now an auxiliary sergeant with DI Nathan Withers and together they need to solve this murder.
The twists and turns kept me trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together. The author has given us another great book in this series.
Jodie is now an official part-time DS in the local police force and is helping her boyfriend Nathan, a DI, I'm investigating the murder of a local fisherman. The locals blame the local mermaid, whose statue has disappeared from the church, but they are looking for a more earthly suspect.
I really enjoyed this latest book in the series, again set in my favourite part of the world, Cornwall. There are many twists and turns, with Jodie's local knowledge helping with the investigation, with surprises along the way. Definitely one for those who enjoy cosy mysteries, with some tempting recipes thrown in.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influenced my review of the book.
A really enjoyable novel as Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker investigates another case in a sleepy Cornish town. She’s working a trial period as an auxiliary police officer alongside her boyfriend DCI Nathan Withers. It’s a great series of books and even if you’ve missed some in the series you can easily catch up. On this occasion they’re investigating the death of a fisherman. With local legends of an evil ‘siren’, it’s a race against the clock to find the killer. A great read that I found hard to put down. Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
A Cornish Seaside Murder sees Jodie busy with the legend of an evil siren and the death of a fisherman.
In this sixth installment Jodie left her amateur sleuthing to accept a temporary position as the Detective Sergeant Parker, working side by side her boyfriend, DCI Nathan Withers.
Some characters from the previous books return, but this time the investigations are reserved to the professionals.
I felt for Jodie throughout the book. She spends her days divided between her cop work, her catering job and her family, and in the end she is fatigued and stressed, believing she is failing in every aspect. I understand her excitement to be finally back doing the work she's loved for years, but now her life is totally diffrent, and maybe she has found a new balance and got used to her life in Cornwall.
If you have read the previous books you can see that Fiona Leitch gave a different, more serious tone to the murder research, to make the difference evident. The writing and the pace are really good, I was glued to the pages from start to end.
I've enjoyed this story, but I missed Jodie's humour and her funny misadventures. On the other hand I adored Jodie and Nathan relationship, they became such a solid and healthy muture couple, I can't wait to know what's in store for them in the future.
If I have to sum this review up in a sentence, this is how it would be: quirky, wackalicious, engrossing, humorous, quirky (yes, don't mind me repeating it), entertaining, unique, witty, and completely enjoyable.
I am a huge fan of Fiona Leitch's Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series. I have been following this series from the beginning and each installment is a new favorite in the series.
So, the annual Mermaid Chase is in full swing and Jodie's playing the role of The Siren. The Siren, oops, I mean Jodie, discovers a dead body. Soon, rumors spread that The Siren (the real one, not Jodie) is once again unleashing terror in the fishing village of Devon and Cornwall.
Soon after Nathan and Jodie start to investigate the murder, another crime is revealed. This starts as a side story, but it becomes clear that the victims might be connected. Evidence leads the two detectives to the homicidal mermaid... NOT!!!
I loved, loved, LOVED every bit of this story. Leave it to Fiona to come up with a wacky and quirky story with an edge-of-your-seat murder mystery. The folk lore about an evil mermaid was an icing on top. Or should I say an extra dash of milk in tea.
The mystery behind the murder kept me guessing till the end. A couple of sub-plots/side-stories finally lead the detectives to the missing piece of the puzzle. The finale was simply fabulous. We also have a bit of development in the personal lives of recurring characters. No spoilers, sweety :) but I will tell you this: I am curious to know how this new development is going to be explored in the next installment.
If you love (you better!) quirky cozy mysteries, you HAVE to give this series a try. A Cornish Seaside Murder by Fiona Leitch is a new favorite in the Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series.
Another cosy Cornish mystery….but possibly more in tune with Cornwall than others I’ve read. It portrays the problems of unemployment and the normalcy of more than one part time job in this county…so not quite so cosy as most possibly. It was interesting with a few twists and turns and realistically many of the perceived possible criminals were just ordinary people who drifted into difficulties due to day to day problems. So altogether a competent and well written story that passed a sunny afternoon in the garden.
Thank you Netgalley for ARC.
Siren costumes and dead bodies. Well right there’s a great hook. Except for me the resolution didn’t meet the challenge.
Maybe I’m over cosy mysteries set in Cornwall or other such beachy areas but I just felt this had nothing much new to say. 2.5 stars for a fairly average cosy mystery read that most people will enjoy.
A One More Chapter ARC via NetGalley
A thriller of widening possibilities.
This review is based on a free review copy from the publisher via Net Galley UK.
There are two departures from current normal police practice in this story:
Two detectives who live together in an intimate sort of way investigate the same case and they solve the case by considering an ever-widening range of possibilities in the light of events subsequent to the original crime and the emerging evidence. The former adds a bit of spice, the latter is thought-provoking as soon as you allow yourself to start thinking about those possibilities rather than wondering when the author is going to actually narrow down the list of suspects.
Told with humour and with some Len Deighton-ish departures into cookery, the story follows the detectives, one having served in London and the other in the big, drug-ravaged cities of the North West, as they investigate what looks to them like an all-too familiar brutal murder, probably involving drugs, for which there is just a smattering of local precedent.
Except that this is rural Cornwall where this sort of thing is uncommon almost to the point of being unheard of and the explanation is something that could only really happen in that location, even though the level and frequency of violence is totally out of character for that community. The conclusion is frightening enough for this to possibly be the last book in this particular series, but it might not be...
Great fun read. I think I read this in a day because I was enjoying it so much. Jodie is home in Cornwall and would really like to spend her days baking but deep inside she is still a detective. Hence she can't help herself getting involved in this seaside murder. Very believable and I love the idea of a cosy read. Do read its worth it!
