A good plot with some twists and turns but it does have some dark elements.
Many thanks to Harpercollins UK and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Well this book went somewhere I wasn’t expecting in a read and is a really dark thriller that just shows you can’t trust anyone. I will not spoil anything with spoilers on this one but just take it from me spilling all the tea with the person doing your nails is a very bad idea. Enough said. Don’t miss this it’s dark and twisted and perfect for crime lovers.
This one definitely came as a surprise to me! I didn't know what to expect coming in but I will say I enjoyed the storyline. It wasn't a book that made me want to keep on reading it but overall an entertaining read!
My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishing for a copy of “ The Nail Salon” for an honest review .
When I started reading this I’d anticipated a different sort of book , more of a domestic , light read.
It’s definitely not that , with dark themes and many twists and turns along the way
Well written characters and a gripping storyline made this a must read book !
I wanted to love this book but it just wasn't for me. I am afraid the the content was a little triggering for me. The book is definitely fast paced, and we'll written. I believe it would be perfect for any thriller can. I will absolutely read future books by this author. Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
A nail technician is just like your hairdresser or your favorite bartender, you share some secrets you probably shouldn't. But when the technician has some very disturbing secrets herself......what happens in the salon, does not stay in the salon. Natalie Tambini took what is usually a background character and launched her into the center of this delicious thriller. Then she took an equally troubled detective and made her the hero of the story, With excellent tension building chapters, we are treated to Book #1 in this series. When you get a winner like this one right out of the gate, will Tambini be able to keep the streak going?
In a world where appearances are everything... you can't trust anything.
In a pristine suburb outside of London everything and everyone is perfect... on the surface. But then one of their own an innocent teenage girl goes missing, and DCI Sue Fisher and her team start to investigate the secrets and lies of an interconnected web of bored housewives, cheating husbands and disaffected teens...
TRIGGER WARNINGS: domestic abuse, child grooming, suicide, sexual abuse, animal abuse, self harm.
The book/ plot held my attention and I kept wanting to read more (even though it was past my bedtime) but it was also at times a tough read due to what was mentioned in the book and it was dark at times. I think also maybe the author couldve put who's POV it was in the chapters at that did confuse me a bit.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for this ARC!!
The Nail Salon sucked me in straight away, both because of nail technician Melinda, who feeds off the gossip of her clients and picks up run-aways in her spare time.
Just a quick warning: this story contains triggers for child abuse and family viloence.
Abused by her father as a child, It is clear from very early on that Melinda is a complex and possibly not a nice character. That said, she intrigued me from the start and I couldnt stop turning the pages. She has more layers than an onion and watching them slowly peel away had me constantly on the edge of my seat.
Sue, a detective chief inspector, and her partner Mike are the other key characters. Assigned the task of locating Anna, an apparent runaway, who has disappeared altogether, they soon discover there is more to that story. Sue has an uncanny ability to pick up when something is off about a witness, and her character is written in such a way as to garner empathy.
This story is filled with twists that keep you guessing to the end, and the backstory of both Melinda and Sue, which is drip fed expertly, adds extra interest. As police thrillers go, this one is cracking good reading.
Be careful what you tell your nail technician!
This is a truly dark read for thriller lovers who enjoy missing persons, a few morbid deaths, and the killer’s point of view!
Melinda Medford is a nail technician who finds herself getting a little too involved with her clients.
Anna is a young teenager who goes missing and DCI Sue Fisher is on the case. DCI Fisher interviews the devastated parents as well as several of the neighbors. However, they all have secrets! As DCI puzzles over Anna’s disappearance, we learn DCI Fisher is keeping a secret as well!
This story has several dark storylines going on and they all tie together with a surprising twist at the end.
A very twisty read which was brilliant and I didn't guess the ending at all. An unusual book dealing with some difficult subjects but well written. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
The Nail Salon has a couple trigger warnings , suicide, child abuse. Who is like a free therapist your nail tech of course and Mel has some of the best clients. Everyone seems to have secrets but who’s got the worst secret. A fast paced suspense story with a bunch a crazy twists.
This story held my attention for the most part... until it got very dark and required a level of suspension of belief as regards the main character that seemed unrealistic. It seemed as if the author had a checklist of character types and personalities to work through and threw everything bar the kitchen sink at the characters without too much development. Consequently, there was a lot of misdirection that, rather than being a spectacular plot twist, felt over the top and unnecessarily complicated.
That said, I felt the DCI's storyline was well-written and her situation handled sensitively, and would read more about her.
Not an easy read, and certainly not what I expected but it lives up to its description in providing a quick read and a story intended to thrill.
A far more unique and compelling thriller than the cover and title give it credit for! I really enjoyed the construction of this and the tense twists and turns - a lot more than an average domestic thriller.
Wow an absolutely brilliant story that I couldn’t stop reading. The story is fast paced, well written had an outcome I had not expected.
I highly recommend anyone to read this book and I look forward to more from this author.
To begin with this lulled me into a false sense of security, thought it was going to be a bit 'Real Housewives', gossipy read, I but then it got dark. Very dark.
I'm not sure if I can say it was an enjoyable read, it was certainly uncomfortable with even DCI Sue hiding a heartbreaking secret.
Probably not the book to read if you are trigger by abuse, suicide and grooming.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion
An excellent crime thriller that kept me guessing and hooked. A tense and solid plot, fleshed out characters,, a well described setting.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Trigger Warning: Abuse, Domestic Violence, Grooming, Self Harm
We all have a favorite hair stylist or nail tech we go to. We may share personal information with them depending on how well we know them. Melinda is the owner of the go to nail salon for the rich. She is the keeper of many secrets, some of them her own.
So many twist and turns throughout this book, many I did not see coming. This book is very dark, full of deception and guilty secrets, not to mention all the abuse. I can’t say it was an enjoyable read, definitely made me uncomfortable. Characters were well written, slow to warm to or understand. Soo much baggage.
Thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
Best book i’ve read this year. So many twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The Nail Salon has all the makings of an instant best seller. Can’t wait to read more from Natalie Tambini.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc
Nail salons are similar to hair salons, in the fact that clients open up to the person attending to them. Be careful what you tell them though!
This book had a lot going on in it, with lots of different characters. I did think going into this that it would be more focused on the nail salon due to the title of the book.
A teenage girl goes missing and DCI Susan Fisher and her team try to find out where is she, what happened and hopefully that she is still alive. But while they are investigating this a lot of things unravel.
I was shocked towards the end, that is for sure. I was not expecting that!
The book isn’t for everyone, there are many triggers, so I would advise anyone wanting to read the book to check the trigger warnings before delving in.
Thank you for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
It’s a story about Melinda who works in a nail salon and becomes obsessed with a few clients and Soozie is one of them. She has twins named Sky and Star
This is told in 2 points of view Melinda’s and a Detective Chief Inspector Sue Fisher who is in an abusive relationship. She and her partner get called out for a minor that’s gone missing. Here come the twists.
Such a great read, one not to be missed.
