This one was touch and go with me for a while as it launched in to the plot with a very scattered approach. It made it very hard to understand what the heck was going on.
I did end up enjoying it but I think that was partly because the author threw everything she’d ever seen on CSI at it.
I admire the tactic if nothing else
This book does deal with some sensitive topics that some people may find triggering. I thought overall, it was interesting but does require some unbelievable plotlines. I did like the main police investigator and would enjoy if further books were written with her as the main character.
The Nail Salon is a gossipy soap opera set in a well to do area of London. These people have too much time on their hands, too much money and lots of secrets.
A missing teen-age girl goes missing from their town and DCI Sue Fisher and her team start to investigate which reveal a lot of triggering subjects.
There was just too much abuse for this to be entertaining.
OMG! what a great read, the twists and turns were crazy! I love when a plot has a sub plot and they both keep your interest and feed off each other. If you think of a nail salon as gossip central, this book takes it steps further and then some. My first read from this Author and won't be my last.
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collis UK, One More Chapter and the Author, Natalie Tambini for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mel owns a nail salon and is privy to all the juicy gossip from her customers.
Sue is the detective working the case of missing teenager Anna.
You'll discover that Mel is not just a manicurist but so much more. You'll learn that Sue has a lot going on in her own life.
This one is packed with love to hate characters and a few you just love. Twisty and intriguing! Couldn't read fast enough to get the answers I needed.
My mouth will be firmly closed at my next nail appointment. If you read it you will know what I mean by that.
Thanks to netgalley and One More Chapter for the arc.
Everyone has secrets, and just like the local bartender of the past, the nail lady is the keeper of secrets nowadays. When a teenage girl goes missing, DCI Sue Fischer is assigned to the task of finding her before it’s too late.
Triggers: child abuse, domestic violence
There are a lot of twists and a lot of them are very dark. The characters didn’t really develop any so it was hard to get to like them. I think maybe the author could have pulled back a bit and it would have made for a better story.
Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review
Although this book kept my attention, im not sure I really enjoyed it. There was way too much going on and the links between characters and plots was flimsy (although entertaining). The endings of several of the characters was disappointing and so much more could have been done with character development, especially if the plot was less complicated/intertwined.
Maybe a good quick beach read though
A great book for mystery/thriller lovers. It keeps you completely engaged throughout with the twists and it's really well written to keep you wanting more. A great, entertaining read that I really enjoyed throughout, thank you!
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading The Nail Salon as the title gave me vibes of glitz and glam and lots of gossip but it was everything but that. It was really good with lots of twists and turns and in part some of the subject matter was hard to read but all in all a really good book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was very well written. It had just the right amount of tension to keep you guessing with the odd twist thrown in that I wasnt expecting at all . I will recommend people read this book and will be looking for more books from this author. 5 stars from me
This book started out as a guilty pleasure of gossip but quickly developed into a dark thriller. There are a lot of intense storylines and definitely some elements that may be triggering for some readers but overall, I found it an engaging read.

Melinda runs a nail salon that caters to wealthy people. Soozie is a client who is married to Simon who are parents to teenage twin girls, Sky and Star. It appears that Simon is having an affair
Detective Chief Inspector Sue Fisher works with her colleague, Mike. Sue hides the fact that her husband, Rob, drinks a lot and abuses her Sue’s boss, Chief Constable Steve Biller, informs her that they have a missing person - an underage runaway. Her name is Anna Littlejohn-Eaves, age 15 and her parents are Zoe and Paul. So, Sue and Mike head out to talk to the parents.
Oh, my goodness! No more hints. Just know that this book is a mind-blower. It’s scary and sad at the same time. I couldn’t put it down. This is a must-read. Enjoy!

**TRIGGER WARNING** Domestic abuse. Child grooming. Suicide. Sexual abuse. Animal abuse. Self-harm.
In a pristine suburb outside of London everything and everyone is perfect.... on the surface. But then one of their own - an innocent teenage girl - goes missing, and DCI Sue Fisher and her team start to investigate the secrets and lies of an international web of bored housewife's cheating husbands, and disaffected teens. Now, as the veneer of perfection starts to chip away, dark secrets rise to the fall of the mighty and a community is brought to its knees.
The topics raised in this chilling thriller are prevalent to the social ills in society today. I did not know what I was expecting when I picked up this book, but I was surprised when I started reading it. Melanie owns the local nail salon, and she knows everything that's going on but would never share any information she hears. DCI Sue Fisher has personal problems and now she is tasked with find a young girl. The characters are a mixed bunch, and the story is told from multiple points of view. This is quite a dark read that won't be for everyone due to some of the contents. There's a few twists and turns but you do have to suspend your beliefs for some parts. I did enjoy this story and I would read from this author again.

When I started with this story, I was completely clueless as to what it was about. It’s more of a mystery/detective novel in a gossiping neighbourhood tale, than it is a thriller. Although that is crucial to the storyline. A shout out for the two police officers who are both extremely likeable although all the characters are well portrayed.
This was certainly an intense crime, thriller mystery. I enjoyed the dual pov, as we delved deeper into the psyche of a deeply disturbed person and the detective, determined to find her.
The Nail Salon is a book that really took me by surprise, I was expecting to not really enjoy it as I thought it was just going to be gossiping women but boy how wrong I was and it was nothing like that at all and I loved it.
Melanie is the owner of the local salon, she knows who’s doing what with who but would never share what she’s been told. A young girl has gone missing and DCI Sue Fisher is on the case, as well as trying to find this girl she has personal problems of her own that she’s not going to tell anyone about.
This is a book I’ve read and am not going to say anymore about the plot as it will spoil it but take it from me this is definitely worth a read. Lots of twists and turns, some I would never have even thought of but worked so well. The ending seemed a little rushed but it gave me all the answers to my questions so it not that much of a minus.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
If I have to sum up this review in a sentence, I will say: DROP EVERYTHING AND GO READ THIS BOOK ASAP!! Absolutely mind-blowing, gob smacking, astounding, fantabulous, (and all the other adjectives!!) thriller.
I was hooked from start to finish and couldn't put it down until the end. Just when I thought "Ah, this new piece of information is going to lead them to the perp..." a twist. Unexpected and totally shocking twist.
There are two PoVs in this story: Melinda, our narrator; DCI Sue and all the other characters. Each character has an interesting side story. If I have to choose a favorite character, no doubt I would choose Melinda. I felt bad for her, and at the same time, what she was doing to the young girls was nothing less than creepy and heartless. But how was she to know that it's not love?
Excellent storytelling. The Nail Salon is Natalie's debut novel. I am out of words to describe this mind-blowing thriller, filled with twists at every nook and corner. The final twist - something to do with Melinda - was totally unexpected. I read it thrice, four times... just to make sure I read it right.
If you are looking for an edge-of-your-seat thriller filled with twists and turns, you HAVE to read The Nail Salon by Natalie Tambini.
Melinda owns a nail salon in like most people in an intimate service she gets told many secrets there’s a woman named Clica or at least on Thursdays she is the other days of the week she’s a husband and father of two and is being blackmailed by her brother after he found out about her Thursday escapades. Then there’s Susie she’s the mother of the twins Sky and Star and the unhappy wife to Simon. Susie and her twins go to Melinda’s to get their nails done. One day when the twins were in Melinda heard Sky talk about a date with a guy named Daniel and fearing for the girls safety she decides to try and intercede on the girls behalf. When she doesn’t see Sky she’s in raged at the waste of her time but we’re going to get back on the train she sees a young girl in the alley crying. She soon find out her name is Ann and she’s run away from home convincing to go back to hers just to be safe she agrees. Melinda has done this before but the previous two girls would never look for this time her prey comes from a posh affluent family and they are relentless to find her. Due to Melinda‘s own mental illness she feels the pressure. The case is being investigated by DCI sue Fisher, Who has a character I really liked but found her backstory to be hard to buy into she’s supposedly a victim of domestic abuse and although she is paid to bring these types of people to jail and she considers the monsters she seems to totally understand her husband robs reason for beating her. This really was a good read and although it seems you know the whole story… You really don’t because there’s a twist! I would really love to see a crime mystery Siri‘s with DCI Sue in Mike I loved the relationship and could see that developing into something more. I am really not a big fan of stories that tell the story as it goes on but this was a really good one and wasn’t expecting the surprise at the end. I received this book from NetGalley and Harper but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
The Nail Salon will knock your socks off! You start reading what you think is a fluffy gossipy story about a stereotypical nail salon, but boy are you wrong! What is so brilliant about the book is the style is original and not what you're expecting at all, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes. A great mix of police procedural and housewife thriller.
This was full of grit, thrill, suspense, mystery and up scale intrigue. I have to be honest, I had judged this on its cover…then I read it and found it to be SO MUCH better then the cheesy cover let on.
I really liked this and thought the premise was original and well done.
