I didn’t love this I’m afraid. A nice enough read but found Eden pretty annoying and rather harsh on Levan I thought when his secret was revealed. Sorry but not my favourite read from this author.

2.5 rounded up to 3.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

What a wonderful treat to read this with the sun shining. Cornwall, a beautiful part of the country has been bought alive once again by Phillipa Ashley.

The characters were easy to get to know. There was a strong feeling of family togetherness between Eden, her mother and grandmother. I loved them all apart from Simon, her ex husband. Lies just rolled off of his tongue. The new neighbour was adorable and fell in love with him from the beginning. Her grandmother, who is just going to reach the age of 90, is truly feisty, lovable and spirited. She really does love life

Eden, had grown up in Cornwall with her mother and father. He was a lighthouse keeper. After being betrayed by her husband she has to re-evaluate her life and move back in with her mother. She throws herself into her new business venture.

Learning to trust another man again, is not an easy thing. A new owner of the cottage next door, might just be the one person who maybe able to change her thinking. The one thing that Eden doesn’t like is vital information being kept from her.

The story is full of secrets, which Eden finds hard to accept. Are people who they say they are.
As we were taken around the lighthouse, it was so easy to visualise the setting and hear the sound of the sea. The descriptive writing was amazing. The Cornish setting brings love, hope and secrets to the reader.

Thank you Phillipa for allowing me to read this and give a five star review. You never disappoint me. Can’t wait for the Christmas novel.

Another great book from this brilliant author, Great plot that played out well. The book is very well written. Lovely location. With the authors descriptive writing you feel like you have gone there with Eden. It had me hooked right from the beginning

As an avid fan of Phillipa Ashley I was really excited to read this book...

The beginning really drew me in but unfortunately I didn't feel like it went anywhere.
The plot was weak and not a lot really happened...

I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately it's probably her worst book yet...

A perfect summer holiday read. Set in Cornwall, the book is full of secrets with many twists and turns along the way. Some heartwarming moments with romance in the mix, although peppered with the usual misunderstandings and non-communication, so making it a little predictable in places. Well drawn characters, all quite likeable except for the one monster rogue to balance the mix. Light book overall with a good feelgood factor and family closeness.

A Secret Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Avon

Blurb

When Eden steps out of her beautiful coastal cottage to find a Speedo-wearing, suntanned stranger doing yoga in next door’s garden, she is immediately on her guard. Since her ex-husband betrayed her in the worst possible ways, she has kept her distance from all men, taking refuge in her start-up coffee business. But as she gets to know Levan , Eden begins to wonder if he might be different – until she discovers he’s not quite what he seems. And when a long-buried family secret surfaces, her faith in those she loves most is shaken to the core. As the secrets spill out, relationships old and new will be tested like never before. Can Eden learn to trust again, and move past all the secrets of this Cornish summer?

My Opinion

Phillipa Ashley has written a great holiday read, this time featuring a lighthouse. Eden needs to learn to trust men again after her ex-husband Simon betrayed her - can she learn to trust Leven? It seems that most of the characters have a secret, which makes for an entertaining read. A beautiful story with some great descriptions.

An amazing read by Phillipa Ashley. A perfect book set in Cornwall and a glorious summer read. Full of love and relationships and small town quirkiness it was a typical romance and so enjoyable

Loved this! Found it a little more dramatic than Phililipa's usual stuff, but that was in a good way. A few times I actually found myself swearing at one of the characters as he was so annoying and entitled! I'm kind of hoping there might be a sequel. As is always the case with Phillipa's books, this has me yearning to be in Cornwall!

Eden, stumbles across a man standing on his head in just his speedos. Well stumbles might be a bit strong, actively encouraged by her devilish 90 year old grandmother to spy on her new neighbour at the lighthouse cottages where she has come to rebuild her life, when she lost everything.

The man, Levan sparks an interest in Eden but she is very aware of any man since, her ex-husband broke her trust and left her with nothing.

Eden sparks an interest in Levan. But is he to be trusted?

Eden tries to keep her focus on her fledgling coffee business and enjoying her new freedom with very little to worry about. Of course her grandmother wants to see her settled and can clearly be see to be matchmaking with Eden and Levan, but there seems to be more going on and when a mysterious figure turns up from the past, will it derail this promising relationship.

A book full of family secrets and local mysteries and an insight into what we don’t know might be going on under our noses. Sometimes the past needs to be confronted to be able to move on into the future.

Phillipa Ashley, does it again with this warm and summery novel which has some real tough issues throughout and shows that life is not all a bed of roses. Decisions made can have a massive impact on everyone around you. It is these types of novels, which I enjoy reading as it shows that life is not all perfect and fluffy and that we all make mistakes and we can always come back from them stronger, more resilient and braver!

A perfect books to cheer the soul and remind every reader how great they are!

Thanks to netgalley for the book in return for an honest review.
This was a nice easy read. Had a few twists, nothing major. Overall I felt it was a nice summer read, similar to other books but for me that's what I like about these styles. I like an easy to follow story that I can just read by the pool.

Fresh and fantastic plot and characters. Loved the Cornwall setting and all the lighthouses. Especially liked the female multigenerational dynamic and thought it was very realistic and well done. The male friendship and “secret job” thread were a good balance to the rest of the story. Last but not least, I was so excited about all the coffee!!

I loved the three women and the next door neighbor, lovely setting. I enjoyed the story very much. I read in two afternoons, it was hard to put down.

Eden meets Levan when he buys the house next door. After her last relationship will she find a way to trust again? I loved the setting and liked how it was told from both points of view.

Hoping that both their best friends get their own books soon!

Can love find a way around secrets?
How many people hold secrets in their lives - and how can we ever know if we know EVERYTHING about someone.
This is a beautifully written story of love, heartbreak, betrayal, and a re-awakening of understanding that real love can overcome all obstacles if there is honor and honestly involved.
Eden and Levan have a burning attraction to each other, but the past - both of theirs and others around them - keep intruding on the struggling romance. But while some secrets tear down, others bring understanding and give courage to trust and move forward in life.
A true "second chance romance" novel - with well written characters, and a story line that will keep you turning pages, and wishing for more when the final page is turned.

Centered around 3 generations of strong women- Iris, Sally, and Eden, and the family secrets that they struggle with. Then of course, there’s the hot next door neighbor who moves in, Levan, and changes their lives completely, especially Eden’s.
The setting of the Cornish seaside as well as the lighthouse’s history was beautiful and fascinating at the same time. Really makes you feel like you are there.
