I feel like this was made to be a netflix series! I loved this book. Half romcom half mystery.. I recommend this to everyone!!!
A delightful rom-com with a spy/thriller aspect. I really enjoyed reading this fast-paced story and will recommend all the time.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book! The title and this beautiful cover drew me in and i was excited to read this book! I will be recommending this book to others for readers advisory.
Reading this book felt like watching a Disney Channel movie. Like something I’d see on Hallmark. Did it make any sense? Not particularly. Was the dialogue cringey? Absolutely. Was I totally hooked and left wanting more? Yes and yes, please give Ally Carter seven more books and a Netflix deal.
Trope warning: insta-love.
I can get behind insta-love when it's done right, but this was not. The premise was interesting but I just couldn't get into it. It just wasn't executed well.
I grew up with Ally Carter reading her "Gallagher Girls" series so I was absolutely STOKED to see this book coming out. I enjoyed reading this book, it was like reconnecting with an old friend. Ally's voice is so distinguishable when she's writing books like this and it's so familiar and cozy and entertaining it was hard not to love it.
I do wish this book would have been in first person, but I understand from a stylistic standpoint with the characters positions why she couldn't do that. I did feel like I didn't connect with either of them on the level I could have if it were to have been in first person.
That's really my only critique, I loved the story line and I really did like the characters and getting to know them! And also all the little "Gallagher Girls" Easter Eggs really made this whole book!
Loved this book from one of my favorite authors. Ally Carter writes another winner with this mad dash rom-com around the world that's super fun, thrilling and of-course hilarious.
I am a lifelong Ally Carter fan, and this delivered exactly what my 12-year-old self would be happy to hear that I am reading late into my 20s.
I LOVE this book. It is a ton of fun. The protagonist wakes up and has no recollection of who she is or where she is, but she has an instinct to run. When she meets someone who calls her Alex, she assumes he can be trusted...at least a little bit, and partners up with him until he realizes she's not Alex, but her twin sister. It's a spies on the run sort of story. They're chased from Paris, and up on a river cruise, in the Swiss Alps, and more. It's sexy and silly and full of action.
I get why this was billed as an adult Gallagher Girls, but... this was not an adult Gallagher Girls book. I almost gave this two stars because I just didn't care for the plot, but I can't deny the fact that I am obsessed with Ally Carter's voice. I felt like the romance moved wayyy to fast and found the use of self-referential tropes to immediately take me out of the story every time. Our protagonist was overly sweet and not interesting enough to make me invested, and her love interest felt equally one-dimensional. The ending veered it a little to far into what felt like self-insert fanfic about her previous series, but I did enjoy some of the twists we got as we neared the story's conclusion. It was a quick read, and there was never any point where I wanted to quit, but there was also never any point where I actually felt like the stakes matched up with what was actually unfolding.
A very enjoyable read! I have read a few books by Ally Carter, and after reading this one, I cannot wait to get my hands on more. There was a great blend of spy, mystery and romance-three of my favorite things. It was also light-hearted and funny, just when you thought something was going to finally happen the story would take a sharp turn and you were in for something else. I would definitely recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
A fun romance + action spy book for adults?? YES PLEASE!! This is a super fun romp that has some really entertaining plays on classic spy movie/book tropes. It's fun and flirty and wildly entertaining. Also the narration on the audiobook version is AMAZING!
THE BLONDE IDENTITY is a combination of mystery and romance and it was such a fun story and throwback to the early millennium of the 2000s era. I loved the romance aspect and it had just the right amount of steam for me. The pacing kept me entertained and I’m excited to read more by Ally Carter.
*many thanks to Avon and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review
I've loved Ally Carter since I was a kid with her Gallagher Girls series and I also loved the tv show Chuck, This book seemed like a wonderful grown up mashup of these two concepts. It's face paced, there's spying adventures, there's romance. I got through this one in a day!
The Blonde Identity is a callback to books in the early 2000s era in terms of romance and banter. I was blushing, kicking my feet, and screaming the whole way through. What a perfect adult debut! For those who loved her YA mysteries and have grown up, this is the book for you. I bsolutely adore and the romance is HOT but not steamy or too explicit for those wondering about that.
I cannot say enough good things about this book! Oh, and the plot was so fast I had to stop sometimes to catch my breath and stare in awe at Ally's words. Truly a masterclass in how to keep your reader reading.
This is a fast-moving, mystery and romance novel. Told from alternating PoV’s = her and him
Her - because she can’t remember who she is, how she woke up in the snow under the Eiffel Tower and why people want her dead. Him - the man who found her and is now helping her (or is he) escape the people who want her dead.
The ending felt rushed, but the book was a lot of fun overall.
Thank you to @netgalley, @harpercollinsca @avonbooks and @theallycarter for a free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book. I am a fan of Ally Carter’s teen books, but was hesitant to read her adult book. I was wrong to be hesitant. Blonde Identity was the same fast-paced, funny, adventure as her teen books. Zoey and Sawyer were fun and flirty, and I enjoyed the entire book and can’t wait to read another in the series.
Nostalgic because I loved the Gallagher girls series by this author! Very entertaining but fell a bit flat for me at some moments. Curious to see what she writes next.
This was a great surprise this summer. I didn’t know what this book was about when I started it but I like the cover. It was a fun time!
"And suddenly, he knew that she was far more dangerous to him than her sister would ever be, because, sometimes, when he looked at her, Sawyer forgot. His mission and his training and life. She made him forget he wasn't Mr. Michaelson and he never, ever would be, which made her the most lethal twin of all."
Ally Carter is back! As someone who grew up obsessed with The Gallagher Girls series, The Blonde Identity is the perfect merge of the nostalgic spy school and adult romance, and is a must read for any fans of Carter's YA series, The 39 Clues, or The Mysterious Benedict Society.
When Zoe wakes up in Paris with no memory and an elite fleet of villains after her, she panics. Luckily, a super hot spy claiming to know her identical twin (who the bad guys are really after) offers to help her not only survive, but recall her missing memory. Will they fall madly in love and run off into the sunset, or will her forgotten past (and missing twin) catch up to her?
I read this book in less than three hours. Ally Carter has always had a way of drawing a reader in within the first chapter, and this was no different. In fact, this was exactly how I would picture a grown up Gallagher Girl (except the GG would be the twin, not the civilian). I love that Carter has a theme, and not only do all her books stick to it, but they do it well without becoming repetitive. I hope we get a sequel or series for Zoe's twin, but if not, I'm just glad to have my international super spy fantasy back!
