This is a good book. The two main characters are Lucy and Deon. They work at the same school. Lucy is a science teacher and Deon is a counselor. Lucy is single and has a daughter. Deon is a widower and has a daughter. They are best friends. Deon has been wrestling with his feelings for Lucy. They each have issues but together they get through them and fall in love.

Perhaps it was because the premise was not my cup of tea I did not enjoy this books as much as I thought I would. While the blurb sounded interesting, the book failed to keep me engaged.

Had a really difficult time getting through this and tried really hard for about 100 pages. Just couldn't get into it, very slow progression and not enough to keep my attn.

This was a good friends to lovers read. The characters were good and this was a quick read for me. This was a first read for me by Shirley Goldberg and I will be reading more of her books. I am going back and reading the first two books of this series since I didn't realize this was a series when I received the arc. I would recommend this book if you like the friends to lovers trope.

Thanks NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press Inc. for allowing me to read this ARC.

A story about a second chance at love. yet it begins for both many after each has been single. he is a widow she was single when her boyfriend from years past left when she became pregnant. Now spending time with a group of friends and getting together at times for dancing when a new person shows interest in Lucy, Deon decides now is the time to make his feelings known to her yet even that takes some time. Lucy of course is surprised when the next day he tells her he would like to date her and then begins to wonder if she really wants to change their relationship. Here is my only issue or the beginning with issues, I would have hoped Deon would have made his intentions known before another guy started asking her to dance and then asking if she is single. Lucy being close to 50 I think would have been a little more assertive if she really wanted to be with Deon. Remember Sally told Harry she wanted more than being friends to make him sh*t or get off the pot. Liked the dancing part and the music at times felt slow.

I ended up reading the first two books because when I jumped into this one it was hard to navigate (personally). But, throughout the book I found it was hard to connect with the characters until about 75% of the way in. I did finish it and thought the writing pattern was great, the plot was good and I would recommend it.

I'll be honest, I really struggled to get into this book. I couldn't connect to the characters and it was hard for me to keep track of the storyline as the writing style was distracting for me. I pushed myself to finish, which I did, but it definitely wasn't my favourite.

Thank you to Netgalley, Backlit PR and author Shirkey Goldberg for the opportunity to read and review this book.
