I enjoyed the characters of this book and it was an interesting premise. Imagine walking down the aisle on your wedding day, full of excitement, until you realise you don’t recognise your groom! This is the reality for Alice who then has to work out what has happened and who or what has caused it.
I had some idea of who was to blame but the twists and turns kept me guessing. The book appeared to have 3 endings though which in one sense added tension but in another got a bit ridiculous and meant that you end up not knowing how on Earth it actually ends.
I know some like thrillers that end this way, and I have read many that I enjoyed where the ending is implied rather than spelt out, but this one implies several things which I feel took away some of the power of this kind of ending.
A good read but the ending could be improved I feel.
This slow burn was the perfect book to switch up my reading routine. I absolutely loved it!
Alice is thrilled to marry her fiance Seth. Everything has gone wonderfully, until she's walking down the aisle and doesn't recognize the man that's standing where where fiance should be standing. Alice realizes that something is amiss and goes on a quest to discover the truth. I was thinking this was going to be more thriller-esq, but I was not let down. That ending... whoo! I will definitely be picking up more books by Boland in the future.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
This is another fast paced domestic thriller that would be great to throw in your beach bag for this summer!
This story is told in dual timelines about Alice and Seth. On their wedding day, Alice does not recognize the man standing at the alter. From there, Alice tries to determine what is happening and why all aspects of her life feel like they are falling apart.
My only negative is that I didn’t love the character of Alice. She is a pushover and I prefer my main female characters to have more gumption.
Overall, I still really enjoyed this read. It’s a fast paced, page turner. There is also a great twist at the end.
Thank you Thomas & Mercer and @netgalley for allowing me to read this book ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
What a great book! I really enjoyed the storyline and the shocking twist after twist the author gave us. Gosh, I felt so bad for Alice, she went through so much throughout the book. She wasn't the only victim but her story touched me most. I absolutely loved the uniqueness of the storyline. Make sure to grab a copy once it's released.
My thanks to Amazon Publishing/Thomas and Mercer, Shalini Boland and Netgalley.
So, I'll just be honest here and state that I absolutely despised this book.
I actually have cuss words that come to mind, but I'll leave those 4 and 5 letter words to your imagination!
This is not someone I'll be reading again in the future.
It's really just a badly written story.
Always know I am going to be in for a good read when I start a Shalini Boland book!
I knew very little about this one before I started it and I love doing that. Loved the opening where we meet Alice on her wedding day, but as she is walking down the aisle and her groom turns around... she doesn't recognise him! We then follow Alice as she tries to put the pieces together and work out what is happening and why she has no recollection of the man claiming to be the man she was going to marry.
As ever with this author, just when you think you have got everything sussed, you will be doing a full 180 and having to go back and read 3 or 4 pages to make sure enough have read it correctly as it will come literally out of nowhere!
I recently finished The Silent Bride by Shalini Boland, and I have to say, I was hooked right from the beginning. The end of the first chapter left me with a feeling of "What?!?!" From there on, the book kept me gripped until the very end.
Speaking of the ending, I have to say I didn't see it coming. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, there was an even better ending and another one after that! The book just kept on giving, and I found myself racing through the pages to find out what happened to Alice and what made her forget.
One of the things I loved about this book was the one-page chapters where we got to see into the mind of the evil character. It added an extra layer of tension and made me feel like it could have been anyone.
Overall, I highly recommend The Silent Bride to anyone looking for a perfect “chewing gum for the brain” psychological thriller that draws you in from the beginning and doesn’t let up until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it has cemented my fandom of Shalini Boland’s books even more!
Alice and Seth are the perfect love story: the handsome doctor and his beautiful fiancée. They're wealthy, well liked and made for each other - the envy of all their friends. Alice can't wait for the day of their dream wedding. But when she arrives at the altar, she doesn't recognise the man waiting to marry her. When this stranger insists he's Seth, her husband-to-be, the entire congregation seems to agree. Even her parents try to persuade Alice to go through with the wedding. Where is the real Seth? And why have all the traces of him disappeared from her life?
I raced through the pages of this book. I had so many questions - was Seth the real Seth? Why was Alice certain that the Seth waiting at the altar was not the real man she fell in love with? And if it was not the real Seth, who was he? I could not put this book down. I couldn't find out quick enough if Seth was real or fake and why this was happening in the first place? The characters were well developed but my opinions of them kept changing. I also wondered if Alice had had a mental health issue before her wedding or was she the innocent victim of a con artist. There are a couple of shocking twists. I was fully invested in this story.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #AmazonPublishing #ThomasMercer and the author #ShaliniBoland for my ARC of #TheSilentBride in exchange for an honest revikew.
Now, what to say without giving anything away about this superb read…..
I would say I am always surprised by this authors books and you all know how I enjoy them, I knew I would love it but this was genuis, it was a totally different take on a psychological thriller, darker yes but not in a traditional darker way, more intense?, definitely….and with an opening chapter that will make even the most ‘seen it all’ reader stop in their tracks and think ‘Wow’, that first chapter excited me…the nerves were jangling and the enthusiasm to see where this was leading was not just keen, I needed to know, such a fantastic start to what turned into a book that was on my mind until I found out the conclusion, it was fast, furious, innovative and challenging and pure reading enjoyment
So yep I loved it 😎😊
Alice Porter is about to marry the man of her dreams, but when the man at the altar turns toward her just as the ceremony is about to begin, Alice is horrified to find that she doesn’t recognize him at all. The stranger insists that he’s her husband-to-be Seth, but Alice knows she has never seen this man before in her life.
Shalini Boland is an auto-buy author for me, so of course I snapped up her newest thriller with only a hint of what it was about and the cover not yet revealed. I love her suspenseful but breezy writing style that never fails to engage me right away, and The Silent Bride is no different. This was a quick, easy read, a bit of a slow burn but the shocking twists at the end were worth the wait.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing UK, and Thomas & Mercer for providing me an advance copy of this book.
I love the stories by this author. They are so easy to read and sweep you up from the very beginning.
Our main character Alice goes through a lot in this book. Imagine yourself on your wedding day and not recognising your future husband anymore. This is already a real nightmare to go digest, but the worst is she is the only one who see a stranger standing there waiting for her... She must be ill or losing her mind. One way or the other, her world is collapsing. No doubt about that.
Everybody has a type the fall for, but Alice really knows how to chose them. :) The worst of it all is that she does not seem to realise that and nor do any of her friends. Makes you wonder how this will all turn out and who she can trust...
As per usual the author has written another winner. I kept wondering and wrecking my brain trying to figure out what was going on. It was very intriguing because I most certainly could not see which master plan the author was going to reveal to us in the end.
When it all became clear, I was shocked. Never in a million years I could have guessed this was possible. So there is only this left to say: brilliant idea to use this as a plot to a very good story. 5 stars
Thank you
The silent bride is a nail-biting suspenseful mystery with great twists! Loved the plot, I thought I had it figured out, where this was going, but oh soooo wrong! The book was fast-paced & I couldn't stop turning the pages because the story of Alice Porter was so intriguing!
I received an advance reader copy of The Silent Bride from NetGalley. This was my first book to read that was written by Shalini Boland, but it certainly won’t be my last! This book begins as Alice is preparing to walk down the aisle to marry Seth, and it grabs you from the first page! The Silent Bride is filled with twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. I enjoyed it greatly!
Another brilliant read from Shalini Boland who is without a doubt one of my favourite authors. I always know when I pick up one of her books I’m in for a good read and the silent bride was no different!
It’s Alice’s wedding day, she’s marrying her fiancé Seth who she quickly fell in love with and together they decided to get married quite quickly, even though Seth is yet to meet many of Alice’s friends or family.
On the day of her wedding Alice is really excited, but as her father is walking her down the aisle Alice suddenly stops. The man at the alter isn’t Seth, in fact Alice has no idea at all who he is, however everyone else insists that he is in fact Seth her fiancé who she should be marrying today.
As Alice leaves the church in a confused state she has no idea what is going on. Her father is telling her to marry Seth anyway and fall in love with him again. In a confused state Alice shuts herself away and ignores calls and texts. She is determined to find out what is going on and won’t stop until she gets the answers that she needs and deserves.
As Alice sets out to find her answers there are some shocking twists and turns involved in her story and behind what has happened to her. There was a very big twist at the end which sadly I seen coming but that didn’t take away my enjoyment from this book and I loved that it was quite unique from other thrillers that are out there.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC it was fantastic! I love Boland's work and so excited to get this early copy. The story was clever and kept me wanted more and more. I think I may have a bit of a book hangover from this one. Grab a copy you will not be disappointed.
I was intrigued by the synopsis of The Silent Bride, by Shalini Boland. I was extremely interested to see where the author would take this idea, how this seed would develop
Alice is about to marry the man of her dreams. She stands excitedly at the top of the aisle of her Parish Church, eager to marry Seth. As she walks half way, Seth turns around, and Alice freezes. She doesn’t recognise the stranger looking at her, somehow, she seems to be the only person who doesn’t recognise this imposter.
The author had me doubting everyone’s intentions and integrity. There were plenty of red flags, and plenty of misdirection. My views on each of the characters changing as I read on.
I found myself gripped, eager to find a conclusion to the story, an explanation of what has happened to Alice. Is she the victim of an elaborate con? Has she had a mental health crisis?
The story kept on giving until the last page, with twists and turns a plenty, holding my interest until the very end.
This domestic drama is a 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. It holds the reader’s interest, and keeps you guessing. It will make a good beach read.
Could not put it down once I got started! It kept my attention all the way to the last page!!! Can not wait to read by this author. A must read!
Alice and Seth only met about a year ago and now they are getting married. But when Alice walks up the aisle on her father’s arm on her wedding day, she doesn’t recognise the man she is about to marry, nor his parents.
Despite many reassurances from close friends and family, Alice can’t go through with marrying a stranger and the wedding is abandoned. As Alice tries to pick up and carry on with her still-single life, she also tries to piece together what has happened to her relationship with her fiancé.
What a totally amazing book, which I devoured in a matter of days. It’s so fast paced with some great twists in the plot, which compel you to continue reading way past bedtime. Just when you think you have sussed it out, another humungous twist is dropped in, and you literally have no idea where the plot is heading next. The characters are lifelike and relatable, and you are just egging Alice on to discover the truth.
Such a fantastic book, which easily deserves more than the five stars maximum that I can give.
This book should have come with a warning: May cause severe book hangover!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
I can always count on this author to pull me out of a book slump.
“Right now I need to soak up every second of my wedding day because I don’t plan on doing this more than once. I want this to be forever. The day that kick-starts the rest of my life.”
Alice Porter quickly discovers that this truly is the day that kick-starts the rest of her life…just not in the way she was anticipating.
What if … you lifted your eyes up while walking down the aisle on your wedding day and discovered that the groom smiling back at you wasn’t your fiancé?
THAT’S the premise of this quick-paced, tension-filled, paranoia-inducing, twisty, and delicious novel!
Everyone tries to convince you that the tall, dark-haired and handsome stranger is your husband-to-be, but you simply don’t recognize him. You can’t understand the disconnect between what you see and what everyone else believes. What do you do now?
I’m not giving anything away…but hurry and put this one on your reading list. It’s worthy of ALL the stars.
Shalini Boland, you truly are the Queen of Twists! This is one spectacular read; a contender for my favourite book of the year!
I was gifted this book by Amazon Publishing UK, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Thank you NetGalley and Shalini Boland for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book kept me interested the whole time, and I actually finished it in one day because I wanted to see how it ended.
I would definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a fast paced and well written book.
I enjoyed the dual timelines and the dual POV, these are always a favourite of mine.
I love all the twists and turns that this book delivers.
Highly recommend to everyone.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
