This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it! I am giving this book three stars, as I don't want to give it a good or bad rating, since I did not get to it and we have to leave a star rating.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)

I think this was the best written of the series. I loved the character and world building in this one. The time travel element was well done as well.

I really enjoyed this book, from start to finish. I will admit that I wish I would have read the previous books but I was able to follow the story. It is a very entertaining fantasy book with an easy to follow story line and very fun characters.

While not initially realising that "Time's Orphan" was the third in the series, I found the book very easy to follow. The author wove a gripping, innovative tale, rich with world building, unique plot and memorable characters. I very much enjoyed exploring Okarria through Emara's eyes, and I'm looking forward to going back to the beginning and reading the rest of the series.

Time travel? Say no more.

Time's Orphan is a stand-alone novel and it was great. Are there references to her previous books? Maybe but as someone who has not read them, I never found myself confuse on what was going on. It features a sweet romance that never took the stage away from its amazing time travel plot.

Will I be reading the other books now? Yes. I really did enjoyed the story. I'm curious if the other books mention or feature the other heirs more.

The quick bullet points:
- The main character, Emara, was likable.
- The world of Okarria is interesting
- The Romance is a mix of instant/destined
- The love interest lost themselves to the romance

Emara’s adaptability to change is very admirable, she is truly a fighter. Throughout the book, you could definitely see Emara grow stronger both with her powers and emotions, especially as she found her own little family in both the past and present. The banter from the trio in the past was so pure and wonderful, and how natural Emara and Jai’s romance developed is so sweet!!!

A wonderful journey as they traveled, and intense fight scenes are always so much fun in fantasy books. I was a little worried near the end that we weren’t going to get a happy ending, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I received this as an eARC, and read it as a standalone. I definitely want to go back and read books 1 and 2 as i very much enjoyed reading this book. Thank you, NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me an ARC, in return for an honest review!

Besieged by war, ravaged by monsters, and crawling with the undead, the land of Okarria is dying. Seventeen-year-old Emara survives by using her modest healing gift to save as many as she can. When I started reading I couldn't put it down I read the book in one day.

A solid continuation of a series.

The characters are pretty well developed, although I would've loved a bit more, but that may be because I enjoyed them so much. The world building is excellent, truly unique and well explained. By the end of the book I felt like I understood everything and things were wrapped up pretty nicely but I still wanted just a bit more. There were some places that could've used just a bit more detail but overall it was still a good book.

I really enjoyed this book. It was really interesting to see how the characters all expanded together throughout the book and where they intertwined and how the 'magic' system worked here. I read this book so quick, I just didn't want to put it down.

I discovered this series with this last book. I did not realize that I was reading the last of the series, it felt like it could have been the first of a grand adventure. I enjoyed it so much that I’m a little scared to read what will now be the back story for me.

In this part of the story, you follow Emara through a war-torn world as she heals those with injuries and attempts to evade detection. Those with yanaa, magical essence, are hunted and Emara learns quickly that you cannot trust everyone. Her journey leads her to discover her magical origin and true purpose.

This clean read is appropriate for teens and adults. Great story!

This is the last book in Odriel's Heirs Series and could be read as a standalone, I didn't realise this was the third in the series however I still enjoyed it so much and easily understood what was happening, although I recommend reading the first two only so the ending is not spoiled. I loved this so much, the world building is incredible and the writing transports you and makes you feel instantly connected to the characters. Emara is such an interesting character who fears her power yet uses it because o her natural empathy towards other people, also unlike most MC's she is never annoying, she doesn't complain or do stupid things, all of her actions make sense and are calculated; she's just such a fun strong female lead like a breath of fresh air. I also LOVED Shadmandur, I mean who can't fall in love with a 100+ year old cat. Overall this is just so amazing I can't wait to read the rest of the series, every part draws you in from the magic to the characters and world building, you truly go on the adventure with Emara.

This is the last book in Odriel's Heirs Series and could be read as a standalone, I recommend you read them all if possible. In this YA Fantasy story, we have fantastic characters, a very interesting world and a plot line that will capture you. I loved Emma and how she faced and evolved. It is a journey I recommend you dive into.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc. Honestly I did not finish this book. I felt like I was slogging through and that’s never a good feeling. The concept is great, the base story line is good, it’s not even that long of a book. The writing just did not do it for me, the concept was not bad though. A girl hidden from the world, child of lore, she’s discovered and goes along with a plan to take down the evil in the world. She even has a cat companion. The story it self would have been great but I believe the writing just did not spark the need to keep going for me. I absolutely believe it will be loved elsewhere.

Wow.... what a wonderful story! I absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, I did not realize until already getting half way through and researching online that this was the last book to a series I had never read... which only makes me sad that I know the ending before I ever get to read the other books. BUT I have now added all books to this series to my wishlist and I can't wait to read them and will definitely re-read this one because it was just so amazing. I love Emara and Jai; I heart poundingly rooted for them the entire time! Definitely a lot of twists and turns I absolutely did not expect! I find the concept of the Heirs absolutely incredible and would recommend this series and especially this book to everyone! Though it is unfortunate I did not know about this being the last book in the series it is so well written I feel that it explained everything so well I did not feel lost of feel like I missed out and could of very much worked as a standalone story, which honestly is pretty cool. I can't wait to read the other books to this series and re-read this in the future all over again. Truly just amazing.

Thank you NetGalley for the ability to read this story!

I’ve had such difficulty articulating anything intelligible for this review. How do I commend this book to readers without sounding unprofessional or like I’m selling a new “sensation” that isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be? All I can do is endeavor to try.

Chow’s writing is extraordinary. The world building amazed me. Things in the first book tied into the last. Easter eggs everywhere. Unexpected, shocking things and subtle details made my jaw drop. Reading the Odriel’s Heirs series gave me that reading high bookish folk talk about when they discover a new page turner that so immerses them in another world that they forget time even exists.

The last time I started a new (at least to me) fantasy series that impressed me so much was when I read Sabriel by Garth Nix. The world building, characters, and dialogue were entirely immersive and the people and story stuck with me, even to this day. I alternated between trying to fly through it quickly and not wanting to read it at all so it wouldn’t end. Now I have binged the entire series, including the shorts, and I wish I could forget them all and reread them again.

Odriel’s Heirs is a series of three books and two short novellas. Each installment and sequel novella follows a different “heir” or person designated to represent Odriel, the sky deity of the world in a battle against a dark god who wishes to stamp out life and plunge the world into darkness. The first, Odriel’s Heirs, follows the Dragon Heir. The second, Idriel’s Children, follows the Shadow Heir. The last, Time’s Orphan, follows the Time Heir.

Each book spans one generation to the next, though they can all be read as standalones, the second and third books in the series reveal the endings for previous characters’ arcs, so I would recommend reading them in order if possible.

Chow’s strengths lie in world building and character development. Though not overly complex, the world is well fleshed out and immersive, revealing itself gradually yet with complexity and sans the monotonous info dump found in many fantasy novels. It is an epic fantasy, and our characters must complete quests of sorts in order to fight the gathering dark of the undead. Do not let the quest description fool you, these books are not linear progressions that bore and cause spontaneous napping. They are gritty, full of action, and quelling with heartbreak (yeah, thanks for that, Chow). The characters latch onto your heart and do not let go—even when they must. The banter is intelligent, witty, and full of snark and sarcasm. Even characters that appear for only a few pages leave lasting impressions.

To reiterate, I cannot begin to say with enough words how much I thoroughly loved this book. This whole series, in fact. I can count the number of times on one hand where I have picked up a fantasy and felt so immersed in world-building, characters, and plot that I lost myself while reading and felt lost when it was over. I immediately regretted finishing this series. Now I know what happens and cannot ever read it anew again.

My sincerest thanks to the author, Hayley Reese Chow, for the eARC. These opinion are my own and willingly (and heartily) given.

*I received an eARC of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Time's Orphan is book three of the Odriel's Heirs trilogy. I have not read the other books in the series...yet. The book was described to me as a standalone, but I had every intention of reading the whole series and then reviewing each one before the release of Time's Orphan. However, life happens, and as a mood reader, that means that I went from wanting to completely disappear into a world of fantasy to one of scifi adventure. So this review got delayed, and the other books are still on my TBR. They won't be there for long, though. This book was an absolute joy to read, and I can't wait to experience the rest of the trilogy.

It reminded me of why I love to read—how the written word can transport you to different worlds and allow you to become immersed in a story. Hayley Reece Chow's writing leaves you feeling like you are not actually reading. You are part of the story right there with Emara, Jai, and Chipo. The elements of romance feel natural and are not forced. The characters grow in ways that you would expect given their circumstances. Then, of course, you have a cursed cat. If you have read any other review of mine about anything that has a cat, you know how I feel. I'm a sucker for a good feline companion.

Rating: ★★★★☆ 4/5

The magic system in this series is just amazing! So much world building and detail went into this book and I was nothing short of impressed! Emara discovers that she is the lost Time Heir and must help bring down the evil plaguing the land. This book is filled with magic, a slow burn romance and a hero that doesn’t give up!

The pacing of this book was a little wonky for me. I made it a quarter way through the book and thought it had wrapped up. I didn't realize it had just started. It's why I went with 4 stars, rather than 5. Overall, I liked it. Emara was a likeable character and I loved Jai. The number one point for me is that this book stands alone - Chow wraps it up beautifully in a wonderful HEA moment.

Also, I just found out this is the THIRD book in a series. Chow is SUPERB. I never would have guessed. Her writing is so seamless in Time's Orphan. That is true talent in story telling.

Thank you Netgalley and Chow.

Wow, the final book in Odirel's Heirs and I couldn't' ask for more. I loved every book in this serries but Time's Orphan was my favorite. Each of the three books can be a stand alone so if you are only going to read one this is it, however I recommend reading them all because it is a fun adventure!

Time's Orphan masterfully weaves in element from the first two books while brining to life a whole new set of loveable characters. We finally get to know one of the elusive Time Heir's but best of all we fill in the gaps on my favorite sassy cat Shadmundar! A fun adventure, a sweet love story, and a perfect ending to the Odriel's Heirs serries. Chow has really outdone herself, I can not wait to see what she writes next!

Four and a bit stars, I have got to say I got a bit lost trying to think my way through the time travel bending consequences in the story. But that’s minor and I really enjoyed the read. Superb world building and characters I could really feel for, and what an adrenaline rush. Amara didn’t know the consequences she would find when she rescues a mangy cat from the edgy of war torn city, and is swept up into a search to find the strength and healing magic control needed to save a kingdom. Maybe it was fate, maybe it was destined to happen. Thank you to Hayley Reese Chow and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
