I liked this one but didnt love. I expected way more dinosaurs than what we got. I prefer the books where we spend more time in the worlds. I did like the audio and thought it was well done. The narrator did a great job portraying the characters.
This is one of my favorite series ever. I reread it every year and never tire of it. This one starts off a bit darker than the rest. It really hit home for me and had my heart. I wanted to be Antsy's protector and shield her from all the things that were happening to her. I so wanted her to keep her childhood a bit longer. Losing that part of you is so heartbreaking. I thought the author did a very good job of writing these hard subjects. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.
Antsy's story is so hard. It is such a familiar story because we hear about these sorts of things happening so often. It seems so fitting that after Antsy has her innocense taken away, she goes to a place that steals the rest of her childhood. I did love that Antsy's world touched on so many. The audio of this book was so brilliant. The narrator did such a great job bringing Antsy to life.
One of my top two favourites from the Wayward Children series thus far. The story is clear, yet hurtful, adventurous, yet to the point. Antsy deserves to have found her door, but the treatment she’s received both before and after finding it will break your heart.
Caution: Highly recommend to any YA reader so long as you can handle child SA and abuse.
(I received this ALC via NetGalley in return for an honest review. Thank you.)
I apologize for this being so late. I got through my first year of college and it was a struggle. I also was unable to finish this book. I did not check trigger warnings before requesting and it was too much for me. That is through no fault but my own.
This series has my heart, and this installment was particularly gripping. The viewpoint of a child lost in plain sight is just so painful. Seanan McGuire does a beautiful job of writing through the mindset of a child, illustrating the power dynamics, sense of injustice, and hopelessness that are all tied up in the love of her mother. The narration was fantastic, the voice acting superb, and I listened to this in one sitting. This book is fantastic!
Lost in the Moment and Found is book 8 in the Wayward Children series by the oh so talented storyteller Seanan McGuire. This book is hella dark and triggering I will give you that. Not only is this book dark but it’s heavy with topics like grooming and gaslighting along with manipulation. This is a YA fantasy children’s series and it’s so good. If you haven’t had the pleasure of picking up this series, or need to get caught up with this series .. just know this is your sign. Pick this book up / this series immediately. Don’t delay. I will happily continue to pick up EVERY LAST book Seanan MCGuire throws our way.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. It was with my pleasure to pick up this audiobook. Seanan McGuire tells by far about the hardest subject matter and hardest hitting tale in this series to date, yet does it so well. Be prepare to be truly mesmerized with this fantastic read. Happy Reading.
I love this book. It is one of my favorites in this series. This one was so interesting and gave you so much to think about and I would love more of this world or this character. It had a lot of darker themes which I thought were handled well. I enjoyed the audiobook as well and would definitely recommend it. I will be buying myself a copy of this and plan to reread it in the future.
OH MAN! This series just keeps getting better and better. This book is more story than adventure, but I adored it! It's heart-wrenching, yet hopeful, leaving you raging and crying one minute, and smiling the next. Might just be my favourite of the series so far, and I can't wait to read more.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Lost in the Moment and Found opens a door to the world of a young girl seeking to escape trouble home. But every door comes at a cost, and the cost of this door is a broken heart 💔.
This story felt like we returned to Wayward Childrens at its best with a strong emotional core that is sure to be a tough read. At the same time, it expands on the mythos of the series in an exciting and intriguing way.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an audio-arc. I thought the narrator did a phenomenal job which is not an easy feat for an adult trying to convey the emotions of a young child.

For context, I read the first book in this series but haven't kept up with the middle of the series. Thankfully, this newest one is a fantastic jumping in point. I know I missed some references in the second half because I haven't read all the other books. This four star read could easily be a five-star read for diehard fans of the series.
I really appreciated how this novella handled the abuse and gaslighting in this story. It was a really powerful narrative that created a good reason to escape into another world. I felt deeply for our young protagonist.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend it to readers, even those who haven't read all the previous novellas in this series. I am now very interested in filling in the gaps by reading the previous books.
Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Really liked this novella, a lot more than the previous few. It genuinely felt like a standalone and it had a lot of heart and hope, despite dealing with some heavy themes.
This was my favorite book from the wayward children's series. It made me feel both intense anger and profound sadness but ended with hope.
Ancy is put in a horrible situation in her home which causes her to run away. When she goes through the door of what looks like a pawn shop, she ends up going through a Door. The land she ends up in is where all the lost things go. We follow her tale as she literally grows up too fast.
Excellent addition to the Wayward Children series of novellas, which explore portal fantasy with more thought to the reality of such fantastic events. Very emotional and short. There is careful selection to each scene to tell an achingly realistic tale in the world of fantasy.
Yet like a lot of the Wayward Children books, it always feels a little too short for me. But the world-building and intriguing characters draw you so far into the story that it’s easy to forgive the short time you are in the tale.
I recommend reading the author’s note before starting the main narrative, especially with the tragic (in so many ways) beginning. I wish nothing but amazing things for poor Ansy, and I really need to see her in future installments.
I listened to an audiobook copy and loved the narration. It was clear and perfectly paced. There wasn’t any awkward narration or any monotone thoughtless vocals. Definitely recommend the audio book.
4.5/5 loved it.
Lost in the Moment and Found WRECKED ME. I love the other books in the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire, but this one left me gutted. (In a good way, but man--I'm still reeling from the emotional punch it packed.)
I was very grateful for the content warning at the beginning, which disclosed parental gaslighting and grooming, but also confirmed that our sweet main character escapes before anything bad happens to her. Sexual abuse of children is one of the few things that I find incredibly triggering, and McGuire handled the possibility of it and the emotional consequences with tender care and respect.
I am consistently amazed by how much story she packs into her novellas, and her creativity leaves me in complete awe. The worlds she crafts behind and through all those doors are incredible.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and MacMillan audio for my ALC. Jesse Vilinsky delivered an incredible narration. This would not have been an easy book to perform, but she was amazing. She brought the land of Lost Things to life. In real life, I was walking around stores, doing my shopping. But through my earbuds, Vilinsky transported me to fantastical places with a talking, bespectacled magpie and a little girl who grows up way too fast.
Beautifully written, amazing world building, and extremely emotional. My heart broke for our MC before she found her door and then again near the end. I loved hope she is featured in future books in this series and it was amazing to see her run into characters from other books. This goblin market type world was interesting and Seanan McGuire has this talent of building these beautiful worlds and characters in such short books. Lovely as always.
"Antoinette has lost her father. Metaphorically. He’s not in the shop, and she’ll never see him again. But when Antsy finds herself lost (literally, this time), she discovers that however many doors open for her, leaving the Shop for good might not be as simple as it sounds."
This was my first book in The Wayward Children series. It is beautifully written and the main character, Antsy, is so well fleshed out that I felt like I knew her beyond the pages. The world building is fantastic and I yearned to see more of the worlds behind the doors. But each door has a price.
While I love a story with magical world building, this story is so much more. It is about how easy it can be to abuse the innocent and naïve. And it is so very heavy with loss.....loss of loved ones, loss of safety & security, loss of innocence, but mostly the loss of a childhood.
Thank you to @netgalley and @macmillianaudio for this ALC.
Having read each in this series for the first time in the past month, I have been able to understand their near-universal appeal. The fact that this entry in the series combined the underlying seriousness and whimsy you can find throughout series in such a way that immediately draws you to a newly introduced character, is a nice feat. As all of these components have come to typify my experience with the series, I was unsurprised to score it with the same positive rating that I've given the previous entries: 4.25.
McGuire continues to dazzle with the Wayward Children series. Thank you to the author, Seanan McGuire, the narrator, Jesse Vilinsky, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the ARC. This is a completely biased review because I am now 8 books deep and deeply invested in this portal fantasy series about children opening doors which is anything but childish.
First, this book is about grooming and I so appreciate the author's note at the very beginning. Normally I would not have read such a book but at this point I trust McGuire to handle the topic. And that trust was rewarded with a profoundly satisfying story. Second, this deep into the series and the concept still feels fresh. I was fully invested, none of it felt formulaic or recycled. Third, these are atmospheric reads for me and Lost in the Moment and Found fulfilled my desire for a deliciously creepy short read with a satisfying if not happy ending.
I anticipate each new entry in the Wayward Children series, recommend it often, and will continue to read each new book as long as McGuire keeps writing them.

This was the first book I have read in this series or by this author but it is right up my alley. I love stories about exploring other worlds and this one did not disappoint. It was a sweet but very sad story so if you are looking for a pick me up this probably isn't the one. But if you want something emotional and magical, it's a great short listen. I flew through it in one sitting.
The narrator was really good and has voiced many of my favorite audiobooks. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series and keeping this author on my list!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
