Very interesting content, I would be interested in learning more about but was hard to comprehend everything as an audio book.
Great book, the audio was easy to listen to, well spoken. The concept of this book is so fascinating & a hot topic among various cultures and beliefs- yet the author allows a space for everyone to really gain something from this book. Highly recommend
A wildly misleadingly-titled book. If false advertising had a poster child, this book would be it. This book felt like a shady infomercial to sell you an overpriced piece of exercise equipment that you don't need, doesn't work, and will leave you worse off.
Highly recommend! I haven’t read The Emotion Code yet, but I will be buying the physical book along with this one. These are books that need to be owned. They will be referenced so much! While the audiobook was excellent, I would prefer hard copies for books like these. I am a believer in energy healing and have been seeing someone for years who uses muscle testing. It has truly helped my chronic illnesses when western medicine could not. I was diagnosed with a rare sleep disorder and used to sleep 20+ hours a day. I could not wake up, and if I could, I couldn’t stay awake. I now sleep 8-10 hours and I can wake up! It has been a long process for me and there is still much work to be done.
The only downside to this book was that he spent too much time giving examples and trying to convince the reader that muscle testing works. I’ll go out on a limb and say most people reading a book like this already believe in energy healing. That much convincing doesn’t seem necessary for the targeted audience. However, it was interesting hearing the stories, nonetheless.
I had no idea muscle testing could be used for so much! This book opened my eyes to how incredible it really is. And I can learn how to do it myself? I didn’t know it was simple enough to do such a thing. I also didn’t realize there was such a spiritual aspect to it. This book gave me so much hope that I can heal myself. Thank goodness because there is still so much healing to be done. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Audiobooks are a form of accessible reading for many, including myself.
After becoming disabled there is so much more pressure on my brain's neuropathways. Once a research scientist in grad school, I now find that reading things in paragraph form is usually impossible, though reading a few sentences is easy. I once listened to audiobooks to make the time I spent on the microscope more enjoyable. I now listen to audiobooks as they are accessible to me.
What I do not understand about the ARC world and NetGalley is that non-fiction books are NEVER accompanied by the PDF that will accompany their retail versions. Often, this accompanying PDF (that is continuously referred to in the audio) is the only way that the book can be fully understood. Sometimes (like in this case), it is the only way that the book can be understood AT ALL!!
Thus, I made it through the first 34% before I was completely unable to go any further without accessing the mean-to-be accompanying PDF.
This first 34% did NOT give any confidence in this methodology whatsoever. In fact, the stark anti-science and anti-medicine (that has actually helped me live a better life these last 14 years with disabilities) from the author and "doctor" (chiropractor) has turned me off this healing tool.
I was willing to give it a chance though - as I know that medicine only has a tenuous understanding of the human body (and only in segregated sections or systems, rather than as a complete whole) and I have also had success using alternative therapies in the past as well as past trauma that has very likely left an imprint on my emotional body. .....
BUT I wasn't able to read and understand the remainder of the book without the PDF. And when the PDF wasn't available, I looked to downloading the author's app in order to help me understand the book. It was a truly EXORBITANT price to use the app - and not something I could ever afford on disability assistance. Further, given the off-putting first two chapters, there is zero chance that I will pay to read this audiobook once it comes out.
Thus, this "healing modality that "will absolutely" help everyone" is vastly beyond the affordability of myself on disability and the ARC review copy is given out without the accompanying PDF needed to understand the material.
1 star.
And I TRULY HOPE that publishers and NetGalley learn that many of us read audiobooks for accessibility reasons, and we cannot understand and review them without the accompanying PDF!!!
Let's start with stating that The Body Code is a book you should read with an open mind and willingness to learn.
I listened to this book and the narration by Dr. Nelson was great. However, I wish I would have read the book in paper. There is so much information and I wish I could have underlined, highlighted and bookmarked pieces of this book. You can access PDFs and utilize the body code website. But, for me paper book in hand while listening would have been even better.
So this book is packed to the brim with information, yet it is very clear and easy to understand. I think The Body Code is an excellent resource for healing and I will be revisiting this many times.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's for my ALC
Never hear of this way of thinking but totally sold on the ideal of using the Body Code. Looking for a doctor now. So interesting concept in the way of thinking and your human body. Healing and improvement to aches and pains is always a plus.
As a sufferer of a chronic illness, I go into books that make claims about healing people with a small bit of skepticism. I’ve heard the miracle cure promised many times over and usually while there might be some good that can be helpful, it never seems to be as revolutionary as initially claimed.
The Body Code is unfortunately no different. This book takes some ideas from Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine and mixes them with religious beliefs to create a blend of integrative medicine and spirituality. I do love the focus on the body as a whole and energetic blockages, but this isn’t new. It’s something my acupuncturist addresses at my weekly appointments.
My biggest critique is that this book verges on preachy at points. He quite literally suggests that one simply just pray for things like chronic pain and infertility to end. If that were the case no one in the world would be in pain or infertile.
Ultimately, this promised a lot and delivered very little. It reminded me of a social media course where they promise you an earth shattering secret to grow your following, show you a clip with some crumb of info, and then tell you if you want more to purchase a class. It seems pretty clear that this book is designed to drum up clients for his business more than it is to help people heal.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Essentials for the ARC of The Body Code.
Overall I liked reading the body code. I know quite a bit of information about this form of healing and I was pleased to learn more about the connection between mind and body. The start of the book was helpful to understand the body code and the rest of the book feels more like a manual or guide to practice.
I enjoyed the personal stories woven within.
Did not finish - I listened to about 15% of this audiobook. It felt more like an infomercial trying to get me to go to a practitioner that specializes in the emotion and body code rather than a self-help book. He mentioned that a higher power spoke to him to make what he has learned accessible for others, but the app is $30 a month.
The Body Code by Bradley Nelson I was intrigued as this seemed to be a follow-up to his previous book. The orators on the book was very good, I think they were trying to give different inflections in their reading as they were obviously reading somebody else's work and it was also comprised of testimonies.
I thought the premise of the book was intriguing and very enlightening. I would say it's along the lines of Ray Kay for those that channel energy. Although we did go into how did channel these different energies with people, I did feel as though it was extremely distracting to have so many testimonials in a book. It left me feeling as though it didn't really want to try it because I was uncertain whether or not there was a lot of truth behind it.
Setting that aside the information and the teaching in the book is pretty groundbreaking and as I continue to learn how to utilize it I am hoping to have a full benefit from it.
I was hoping for a bit more from the book if I’m being honest. It’s very possible that I wasn’t the target for this book. I appreciate holistic healing but none of it really connected to me personally.
This highly informative book is a must read for all. It’s time we take responsibility for our health instead of relying on outside sources ie. big pharma and government. Our bodies are AMAZING vessels and can overcome anything with knowledge, determination and belief. Thank you to NetGalley, Dr. Nelson and St. Martin’s Essentials for a copy of this audiobook and these reminders in exchange for my honest review!
This audiobook was good.
As someone who is familiar with The Emotion Code (also by the author), this information wasn’t 100% new to me.
It was very informative and cool to see the connections between energy and the body.
I typically love nonfiction books as audio. It gives me an NPR vibe that keeps my attention. This might have been a good audio book had it not spent the majority of the time trying to sell the reader/listener on the Body Code method. It felt like an infomercial more than anything and I still felt a little confused about what exactly The Body Code IS. Maybe someone in the health field would appreciate this more?!
