Thank you, NetGalley, for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I already had some familiarity with Adams' work, which I had seen in passing online. I was delighted by this book. It has such vivid, cute, and bright artwork, and the characters and situations are profoundly relatable. I am predisposed to enjoying graphic works that are series of vignettes rather than a longer story, and this one was absolutely charming. There is so much love and joy in it, as well as moments of vulnerability and tenderness. A wonderful book, and I am glad I read it.

Thank you to the author, Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This collection of comics about the relationship between two polar opposites - extroverted, spontaneous and unafraid to be weird Meg, and her introverted, serious and supportive husband Carson (not to mention two pets with personalities of their own) is very funny in parts, and complemented by some more serious and thought-provoking pages that are sprinkled in. There is not a story arc as such, the collection seems a bit random, but I definitely enjoyed reading this - particularly because it felt very relatable and it looked like real people with curves and real-life backgrounds.

Why Are You Like This? is a collection of comic strips which follows the lives of married couple Meg and Carson and their two adorable furbabies Boedy and Luna. While the collection doesn't have a direct storyline it is a charming insight into their everyday lives and their often idiosyncratic relationship.

It's often said that things are funny because they are true and that is definitely the case with WAYLT. I found myself absolutely chuckling with laughter at so many of the relatable panels and now have a mountain of screenshots which I will end up plaguing my husband with. There are too many this is us/me moments to send them all in one go!

On top of that the artwork is so cute and so realistic. Meg isn’t portraying your perfect blemish free protagonist and instead gives us a gorgeous girl who is comfortable enough to leave all her lumps, bump and whatever else hang out while making the ugliest faces she can pull. Also can we just have a moment to squeal at how cute those dogs are!!

Dr Seuss once said "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love" and I think that beautiful little quote sums up the essence of this gorgeous comic collection perfectly!

Why Are You Like This is published today by Andrews McMeel Publishing and I would urge you to pick it up if you want a fun little self-deprecating giggle.

Why Are You Like This? by Meg Adams is set up in line with my favorite types of comics, a la Sarah Scribbles, Catana Comics, etc. It's basically a collection of vignettes about daily life-the funny things that happen, weird personality traits, and the like. Meg's drawn expressions were truly memorable, and I really enjoyed this volume overall, even despite the fact that I'd seen a couple similar panels in other works. Looking forward to more lighthearted reads from Meg Adams!

Finally - a cartoonist who's not afraid to show us her stretch marks.

Meg's a gal who shares my love of Halloween, and realizes those decorations belong up year-round!

These are slice of life comics - many are not exactly laugh-out-loud, but if you recognize even a little piece of yourself in Meg, you're gonna love 'em.

I mean, come on - she gets it that a hefty slab of pumpkin pie can only be made better by covering every single centimeter with whipped cream!

What's not to love?

This is one of those books that deserve to be kept on a coffee table to be reviewed over and over again. This book is perfect for a 5min break - just open up a page, read it through in 10 seconds, and think about it for a moment.
Comics are very short and easy to catch the idea. The best part is how honest each page is and how easy it is to relate to the author. Besides, there is nothing better than a good laugh about oneself.

However, be aware - even though it feels light and funny, drawings represent a variety of heavy topics that should be taken seriously, like body awareness, anxiety, and daily struggle.

Meg's views on life are guaranteed to overlap with everyone's thinking in at least a few of her comics.

She's so honest and relatable and has made an instant fan out of me!

All of the comics are short and straight to the point and they're all hilarious (even if you don't think the same way!).

She has a simple art style which just adds more depth to her comics.

A really great read!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have followed ArtbyMoga (aka Meg Adams) for around a decade now, and I was super excited for the opportunity to read this book!

This collection of comics was so much fun to read. I related to so many of the panels that I was showing them to my husband (perhaps to his chagrin) every few seconds as I read through. I'm confident that this will be one of my favorite comic collections of 2023 and totally perfect to go with some coffee table books.

One of the best things about this comic collection was its focus on self acceptance and body positivity/neutrality. There was a particularly moving panel that compared the mindset of younger and older characters towards body image, which resonated deeply with me. That alone would have sold it for me, but I also loved the fun little comics about Meg and Carson's relationship, Meg's eagerness for Halloween, and then the comics about mental health as well.

Overall, this was a fantastic read that brought a smile to my face and gave me lots of laughs.

Thanks so much to Andrews McMeel Publishing as well as NetGalley for the opportunity to check this out ahead of its publication on 03/07/23 in exchange for my honest thoughts!

In Why Are You Like This? Meg takes a humorous, millennial-minded look at life's big questions. Through comics that explore marriage, adulthood, pet ownership, self-love, and self-care, Meg captures the everyday struggles of modern life with wit and charm.

The book is filled with relatable musings on topics like hangry partners, forgetting reusable shopping bags, and the allure of decorating for Halloween months in advance. The heart of the book lies in its frank portrayal of anxiety, a topic Meg approaches with empathy and understanding.

But it's not all seriousness - Meg's cartoons incorporate bright colors, whimsical drawings, and witty punchlines to keep readers engaged throughout the book. Her modern take on these topics makes the book lighthearted yet meaningful at the same time.

Why Are You Like This? provides much-needed comic relief to anyone looking for an insightful take on millennial issues. It's recommended for readers who appreciate humor as well as those looking for a thoughtful representation of their own lives in today's world.

I have loved Meg Adams and her strips since they first crossed my Facebook or Twitter feeds. They're probably the most relatable comic strips specifically the ones about being pale and hating the sun. This was a cute collection. I've seen a couple including already but there were definitely some I hadn't seen before.

Love love love the drawings, they are so expressive! Meg and Carson both are perfect for each other. I enjoyed reading and following their activities, they were hilarious! I could also relate to some of the topics, and I was just so greatful to find mental health and self-love topics inside. Oh, don't forget those cute dogs! Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the copy.

For all the trouble I had downloading this, I was hoping for more than I actually got. Is is cute and funny? Yes, in parts. Is it for everyone? Nope. There was a lot more "adult" humor than I was expecting [not that that is a problem - the characters are partners and they show that, but I was expecting something different and was more surprised than anything {I certainly wasn't offended, just surprised}, but I can see how some people would be bothered by some of the "humor" shown]. There are also quite a non-funny themes [anxiety, self body-shaming, obsession] and the daily struggle it is for an extrovert and an introvert to not only love each other, but LIKE each other and live with one another [been there, done that. I was the introvert, so I really resonated with Carson], so there are some non-funny moments in the book that are a good example of what that kind of relationship is like <--THIS does not take away from the book, this is just my observance after reading it.

I follow Meg on Insta and I really like seeing the comics there, and for me, I think I like her stuff in smaller doses, but would probably read another book by her should she write one. There was enough funny in this to keep me engaged and now knowing her humor better, it won't be so...unexpected next time.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely adored this! It was a wonderful, funny, and relatable read. So many pages had me laughing out loud and there was one I just HAD to show to my fiancé because I knew he would love it too. If you're looking for a fun comic collection about the life of a couple this is the one! The only thing I wish were a little different was perhaps there being chapters. Just something just to clearly show how things are broken up! But besides that I truly enjoyed it. The comic left me wanting more but in the best way. I'll definitely be checking out the authors other work and see what else they have coming up.

Thank you so much for providing me with an ARC through NetGalley!

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Oh my god, I related to this so much. There were many pages that I had to stop and share with my husband and laugh with him about them.

In this comic collection we follow Meg, Carson and their dogs Boedy and Luna throughout a year. It's a really fun and relatable read, from being hot and sweaty in summer, to buying too much Halloween decoration just because you can. It's very quick and easy to read, plus some comics really made me ask 'why are you like this' or 'why am I like this'. I could've read much more, but at the end of the day it feels quite forgettable.

3.5/5

This was very cute and super quick to read. Some of the panels made me laugh; the rest made sure I had a smile on my face the whole time. I just wasn't a big fan of the art when it showed the character(s) doing something goofy. The dogs were always adorable though!

Thank you so much to NetGalley & Andrews McMeel Publishing for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this so much. I have been a fan of Meg Adams or ArtbyMoga for a while. Me and my partner both love sharing her artwork with each other for how relatable it is and we have been doing it for a while in our relationship. This ARC was especially sentimental for me.

This graphic novel is about Meg and her Partner Carson and their furbabies. It is funny, and relatable and at times there was a poignant drawing or two sprinkled in there. She tackles everything from decorating for holidays, mental illness and even dreaded seasonal allergies. I love her drawing style and how she isn't afraid to depict ugly selfie faces and curves.

I think what I was missing was some sort of story arc tying things together. I enjoyed the book as as a long time follower I could take it for what it is, I just think in the future it could also be fun to read about Meg and Carson going on an adventure together (besides life lol!) I would absolutely recommend this.

The art was really fun! The description and intro of the collection implied a level of characterization and of story that was just not present. The comics were very short—there was no continuity to follow between pages, and many pages contained just a single, contextless panel. Ultimately this is more of a collection of cute, funny drawings than of sequential art.

This is such a funny collection of comics! The things that happen to the characters are so relatable and I really appreciate the diverse representation in the characters. I think it's great that Meg Adams put out of book of comics and that so many people are supporting the book.

I enjoyed this read and would recommend it, especially to folks who enjoy comics..
