I honestly thought there would be more books in here that piqued my interest. But hey, maybe one will surprise me!
I always look forward to new installments from Buzz Books and this did not disappoint! These are always helpful in discovering upcoming books and I enjoy the excerpts from books that were already on my radar as well as ones I hadn't yet heard of.
Another sampler selection of books that are coming up.
Theres some pretty book covers but nothing really caught my attention that I really wanted to add to my want to Reed list.
As always great way of helping to prevent bloggers/reviewers such as myself from requesting books we may not enjoy reading. A sample gives a chance to see if you like the writing style and feel of the book before requesting the full galley
As always, there are a ton of interesting samples included in this edition of Buzz Books (Spring/Summer 2023), especially the fiction, which accounts for most of the books that I read. It’s a great way to get a taste of a book before committing to the entire thing, plus it’s a great way to sample both new and new-to-you authors.
Among the books I sampled and were intrigued by are:
Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo (Ecco)
Take The Long Way Home by Rochelle Alers (Dafina)
How to Love Your Daughter by Hila Blum (Riverhead)
All The Pretty Places by Joy Callaway (Harper Muse)
Mastering The Art of French Murder by Colleen Cambridge (Kensington)
Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)
The Librarianist by Patrick deWitt (Ecco)
Prophet by Helen Macdonald and Sin Blache (Grove)
Homecoming by Kate Morton (Mariner)
Künstlers in Paradise by Cathleen Schine (Holt)
The Burning by Anna Todd (Frayed Pages x Wattled Books)
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese (Grove)
Medusa’s Sisters by Lauren J. A. Bear (Berkley)
Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati (Sourcebooks Landmark)
The Woman in the Castello by Kelsey James (KensingtON
Paper Names by Susie Lou (Hanover Square)
The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell (Atria)
Sisters of The Lost Nation by Nick Medina (Berkley)
Wednesdays At One by Sandra A. Miller (Zibby Books)
A History of Burning by Janice Oza (Grand Central)
Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? by Crystal Smith Paul (Henry Holt)
Go As A River by Shelley Read (Spiegel & Grau)
Berlin by Bea Setton (Penguin Books)
We Are A Haunting by Tyriek White (Astra House)
Queen Bee by Amalie Howard (Joy Revolution)
Excited to get this sneak peak at so many wonderful new releases coming this spring and summer. Cannot wait to get my hands on copies of many of these!
Good reference for upcoming books! You can find books that you may want to read in the future. Always interesting to find new authors to read.
Exciting to see all that is to come! Especially looking forward to the Fiction Titles and Debuts listed here. Lot's of books to add to the ever growing TBR!
Some exciting books coming out this spring/summer!
Thank you Publishers Lunch for the copy of this book to get a preview of books coming.
This was very helpful in seeing what books are coming out soon and what books should be added to my TBR list. This is the first time that I have read the Buzz Books and will definitely be watching for more of these in the future. It was nice to be able to read excerpts and decide ahead of time what books will be worthy of my trip to the book store on the release dates. Worth the read!
I LOVE this sneak peek! Thank you, NetGalley!
I'm looking forward to requesting novels by Morton, Verghese, Acevedo, Goo, and others, and to digging into several of the nonfiction and debut titles. I particularly appreciate the notice of books coming out this Spring & Summer that won't be available in galley form but will be hitting our public libraries (e.g., novels by Colson Whitehead and James McBride). The anticipation is delicious!
I always look forward to the Buzz Books compilations. As a librarian, they give me ideas for collection development since library patrons are bound to be looking for many of these titles in our library in the coming months. As a blogger and reviewer, I also appreciate reading the excerpts, which helps me decide which books I may want to request copies of via NetGalley and select for review.
In this years Buzz’s book for spring/summer, we hear about all kinds of great books , Authors’s and publishers. Almost every year Buzzs books talk about the books others will be talking about in the near future. Like genre changers such as Elizabeth Acevado, Who’s switching from yeah thrillers to adult fiction A nonfiction author Helen McDonald who’s also switching to fiction. They have books from all over the world represented from Cozy mysteries to historical fiction adult fiction the list goes on and on and so many publishers will represent it from Berkeley to Yale to one of my favorite crooked books and many others. There’s entirely too many books to talk about all of them but some of my favorite were A nonfiction debut by Nicole Chung called Reddiscovering America, Did You Hear About Kitty Carr by Henry Holt, in many many more. There’s so many debuts in reoccurring authors and it all sounds so good. That’s why I love this book so much I got a jump on my TBR and they always pick books that others will be picking in the future. I love buzzes book pick and I always seem to agree with them. I thoroughly enjoy these and their sampler‘s and look forward to them every year. I received this book from NetGalley and Buzzes Books but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
I love these Buzz Books Compilations and seeing what exciting new books are being published! Thank you for a copy of this valuable resource
Goodness me, not only was I a fan of the majority of these excerpts, I appreciate that a link to the netgalley was included. There are several authors I had never heard of before here, and I am excited to check them out.
I always look forward to each Buzz Books edition because every time I discover something interesting and new. This edition had a lot of new to me author, which is always exciting.
I've always loved these Buzz Book sneak peek. I'm used to finding at least three novels I didn't even know was coming out. This time I found that Kate Morton, one of my favorite authors has a book coming out soon..
There were some incredible fiction debuts coming that I got to preview as well as a biography called King about MLK. I'm excited for this one as I want to learn more about this man that shaped our future.
Pros: One of the things I find most overwhelming about NetGalley is knowing what books to request--there are literally thousands of books! This sampler was a wonderful way to read a bit of a bunch of upcoming releases to see what I might want to request from NetGalley and the library. I've already received Elizabeth Acevedo's new book from NetGalley and can't wait to start reading!
Cons: The worst part about these samplers is having to wait to read many of the books that sound great.
Each new Buzz Books is a delight for anyone who enjoys reading. The books that look most interesting to e this tie around are—
• Elizabeth Acevido's Family Lore, A story of a family of Latinx women with a bit of magical realism
• Monica Brashears House of Cotton. A contemporary, Black, southern Gothic novel.
• Mihret Sibhat, The History of a Difficult Child. A girl growing up during Ethiopia's socialist revolution.
• Tyriek White, We Are a Haunting, A Black family in Brooklyn with a blend of magical realism and social critique.
