This first-in-series has the potential to become a cute and fun series beginning with its setting in Paris - Kentucky, that is, not France - and a French bakery run by proprietress Marci Beaucoup. Obviously, someone in her family had a wicked sense of humor, but faithful to her name, Marci loves all things French. The characters are likeable and just quirky enough to be interesting; and the mystery was reasonably puzzling. The problem arises with Marci's incessant monologues, questioning and second guessing her every step, jumping to conclusions, and acting like a middle-schooler around handsome men. I found myself barely skimming through pages of this nattering to get to something of substance. Adding insult to injury, are the ongoing TSTL moments and several plot holes. I truly believe that a good editor should have caught most, if not all, of these issues, or at least mitigated them. Nonetheless, I will give this series another try and hope for better editing.
Thank you to the publisher Crooked Lane Books, and NetGalley for the eARC.
For me, this book was just okay. The premise was not particularly creative, and it also got a little boring at times. I had to skim through the book to get to the end. It was not particularly engrossing for me, like other cozy mysteries.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an opportunity to read. I promised myself I would try new authors and series this year and this looked promising if a little cheesy, the whole Paris thing, French pastry and a character named Marci Beaucoup. This just fell so flat for me, it wasn't fun inspite of a cute bakery, adorable pets and a mysterious Frenchman. It had every stereotype I dislike in a cozy, no real police presence, a main character who thinks she is smarter than the whole police force, a main character who in this case, repeatedly, does dumb thing after dumb thing and to finish it off a budding love triangle. No, just not the way to start the New Year!
This has an adorable cover that I love. I was excited as I am a huge Rose Pressey Betancort fan. This one was cute for a debut. There are parts that I enjoyed and some I did not. Merci Beaucoup is not my favorite character that she has written. The mystery was great and I loved the writing style. That said it had some what the heck moments in the writing. I will give book two a try as I love the author however this may not be a series for me.

Thank you to the publisher for letting me read this eARC. In all honesty this book was okay. It didn't really draw me in like other cozy mysteries do. I found myself skimming a lot just to finish the book. The main character kind of annoyed me through out the book.
I have read everything Rose Pressey Betancort has written and this is the first time I have been annoyed. Sure, the name “Merci Beaucoup” is really kitschy for a series set in Paris, Kentucky, but that wasn’t even the annoying part. It was the discrepancies int eh story, like she left her dog and cat with her mother to go to the pumpkin festival, then her mother called her from a cruise ship? Add in a few saying that she has used in previous series and I had to stop and ask myself which series I was reading a few times.
That said, this is the first in a new series and it’s often the hardest one to get off the ground. I’ll give the next one a read and hope it breaks away from the ghosts of series past and gets a good proofreading.
First in a series, and last for me to attempt to read.
I tried really hard to get past the ridiculous name. Really, I did. But then the character came off just as annoying as the name and I struggled. Throw in a freakin' love triangle and that's it. Done.
Please, publishers. Can we just stop with the terrible love triangle trope?
The first book in a series called A Paris Kentucky Bakery Mystery, is Macarons Can Be Murder by Rose Betancourt. This was not the best mystery I've read. I figured out the murderer quickly. I thought the dialog was forced and the characters were boring. If the characters had been more enjoyable and lovable, I think I would have liked the book more. I almost didn't want to finish it but am glad I did. I think it ends well and wish the first half of the book was as entertaining as the second half. Although the murder mystery part was predictable, if you are looking for a quick entertaining read, try this one!
Marci Beaucoup(yes, that’s the main character’s name)owns La Belle Patisserie in Paris… Kentucky. She works hard baking and running the shop with assistance from her aunt Barb. Because this is a cozy mystery, you expect a pet, but in this case Marci has two, a dog named FiFi and a cat called Pepe Le Pew. All Marci wants is to bake and for her shop to be successful, but life has other plans( and maybe a love interest or two).
A dead body is discovered in front of the bakery and in true cozy mystery fashion, only an amateur sleuth can figure out what the police cannot. Luckily we have a baker and a shop owner named Marci, who is bound and determined to get to the bottom of this murder in her town.
This is the first book in a new series and I wish that I liked the main character more. Still, you can’t always tell if you’ll love a series or a character from the first book, so I’ll give the next one a try before deciding if this series will work for me. 3.5 stars.
Absolutely enjoyed this one! The suspense kept me turning page after page. Couldn't get enough. Murder, suspense and underlying romance. Definitely worth the read. Absolutely love the recipes at the end of the book. Will most definitely try and make a few...
I love Rose's books and thus cozy mystery is right up there. She is a wonder writer and this cozy has it all. Handsome cop, female baker, cats, small town and a murder. Marci is one of my favorite characters this year. I will be reading more!!
I just reviewed Macarons Can Be Murder by Rose Betancourt. #MacaronsCanBeMurder #NetGalley

This is the first book in a new series and I was excited to read it.
The story was okay, nothing really captured my attention, and the characters didn't intrigue me.
That's not to say it's not a good start, the book just didn't have any wow factor for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

This first book in a new series had a good premise and a good start. I did find the the main character to be imprudent. The book got bogged down by her musings and rash conclusions. There is very little actual investigation happening and yet the murder gets solved; also with very few suspects. It has potential to be a better series with some editing.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC!
Honestly...this was just okay. The main character was a little annoying, the plot wasn't very unique, and it was a little boring at times. I started to just skim pages because I literally wasn't missing anything...there was just nothing going on. This could've done with more editing and some polished details.
I found the main character’s behavior to be wishy-washy. I found myself skimming the text as it wasn’t going anywhere, it was every focused on Antone not being the killer. I didn’t find the killer to be surprising. #MacaronsCanBeMurder #NetGalley
