I'd highly recommend this children's fiction book to all readers! One, our main character demonstrates both grit and compassion for her objective of protecting the trees, which is an example to all readers. Two, I think the story shows how complicated life and relationships can be in a way that doesn't overwhelm the reader. Reading is not just a way to escape, but it is also a way to grow and heal, too. This book does a nice job of demonstrating that.

I would like to first thank Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
First off, the cover. The cover is so cute and it's honestly what first sparked my attention to even read this book. I also really enjoyed the characters and all of their different personalities. Artemis Sparke, which is the main character, has such a lovely and relatable feel to her. Yes, it did take a little while, for me personally, to actually get into the book, but once I did, I really enjoyed the story and its overall meaning. At the end of the day, I think this is a wonderful middle-grade book that people of all ages can enjoy!

I really enjoyed reading this story. Artemis is a great character. I love her careful measurements and recordings of the changes in the environment, and her dedication to saving the salt marshes. Of course, sometimes she goes too far, she is single-minded about the cause, to the determent of her friendship with Warren. At one point I wondered why he was friends with Artemis at all, but Artemis’s flawed character is one of the strengths of the story. I also understand why she tries so hard to control one aspect of her life. Her parents have split up, her mother is dating the owner of the hotel (even before the parents’ divorce is final) , her father seems irresponsible, and they both struck me as very selfish and not hugely interested in their daughter.

I really liked the other characters, especially Warren, who has problems at home too, and Mrs Moonchaser, a kindred spirit. The ghosts of the environmentalists are fairly low-key but still a nice plot thread. Overall I really enjoyed this story, it’s a little different as well, so I highly recommend that you check it out.

The children enjoyed the story of Artemis and her fight to save the salt marsh. The story sparked many great conversations around ecology and protecting the environment.

I really like the cover art at first glance, and this is the reason why I pick the book. The topics and premise of the book is also important.

The book tells a story about Artemis who is having trouble in her confidence but fought for a better environment in the middle of hotel's development/rejuvenation. She makes friend with the living things around her and notices something wrong.
The book's moral story is great and important as it is about environment. and throughout the book, there are stories about friendship and relationship beside environment.
But I feel like the book's world building is not that easy to comprehend. The ending is so abrupt that I think there are still have room to be expand.

I enjoy the book, but maybe it is not really for me.

Art is a shy but fierce twelve year old. She is determined to save the salt marsh around the hotel she lives at and sometimes works at. Art has trouble getting support but with a few friends she manages to dins ways to get her message out despite her stutter and frustrations. As she works to achieve her goal, she also learns how to become a better friend and how to be a better person.

Firstly I want to highlight that the 3 star rating is my personal rating of the book. I think this is an important book about the environment and not feeling heard for older children to read, it just did not work for me 100% .

I enjoyed the premise of the book and parts of its execution, however I felt it was overall lacking. I felt like the book spent a lot of time building up relationships and suspense only for it to quickly wrap it up at the end. It could definitely be two chapters longer. There were several times where I simply couldn't get into the book, which is very likely a me-issue, but it made reading this book not as enjoyable as I thought it would be.

That said, I think the book has its audience and I wish for it to find them.

Part of the proceeds from book sales will benefit Save the Sound, a non-profit based in New Haven that works to fight climate change and promote ecological restoration in the Long Island Sound area, where the story is set. I originally read this book via a Netgalley e-arc but will be purchasing myself a physical edition.

Artemis Sparke likes to spend less time with other humans, who make fun of her stutter and are unpredictable in their emotions, and more time in the nearby salt marsh, at peace with the birds, animals, and natural surroundings. But now they need her help! They are choked with rubbish and overrun with human visitors. Her mother's boyfriend owns a hotel and its inhabitants are the worst offenders. But does Artemis have enough power and enough of a voice to save them?

I adored Artemis from the moment she was introduced. She had a sweet and caring nature and her love for the natural world only cemented her place in my heart. She cared deeply and seeing her overcome her own fears to save something that could not speak for itself made this a heartening and emotional tale. It is the perfect resource to teach the young target age range about caring for their environment, with its beautiful message, and also about inclusion, with the characters that are featured.

Artemis Sparke seeks the comfort of wildlife critters in her local salt marsh rather than with her school mates. One day, her data shows that the marsh is dying. Rushing to save the ecosystem, Artemis discovers lots of things about nature, and herself.
A delightful cottagecore read with a timely call to action! I was delighted to spend the course of the book exploring the salt marsh and meeting the wonderful critters of the area. Kenna does a wonderful job of encouraging kids to face the fears of growing up, while stand up for what they believe in.
