I thought this book will be exactly my cup of tea. And it would be. There's a lot of knowledge put in this book and people who are interested in quantum physic should find it interesting. I am interested in everything quantum, but ... there was a lot of lacking in this book when it comes to developing of characters and a prose. Okay, so we have our genius protagonist who is chased becasue of discovery he made. And it seems nothing surprises him. Girflriend as a traitor? No problem, still love her. Parents working for some mysterious organisation? Well, why not, it should be obvious, Also I didn't like when our genius protagonist was all-knowing. I mean as a scientist he made assumptions based on gut feelings. Also, there was way too much dialogues especially in first part of the book.
This book is easy to read, but I feel that with that kind of topic, it should be more comlex, It has potential but lacks the depth of character,
I gice it 3 stars because of science knowledge.
I loved Lost in time so was delighted to find this book on NetGalley I was not disappointed. This book is a fast paced romp between time zones with a cast of characters I quickly loved and was invested in .
To set up the concept there was a bit of pseudo science which I enjoyed it was plausible but slightly tongue in cheek at the same time
The references to the Guns of Naverone film made me smile as my father was an extra in it in the 60s playing a German officer with a dreadful accent his one line being left right or it’s equivalent in German
There were some plot holes which I found slightly confusing ,the way the time travellers were able to talk the people they met into helping them for example but I quickly forgave them as the story whizzed along
The book has an exciting start and I enjoyed the experience of reading it ,it was just the sort of escapism I needed having read a lot of literary novels recently
The book ends in a way that leaves room for the possibility of sequels .
I also thought it would make a great film or tv series grab the rights if you can
I read a early copy of the book on NetGalley Uk the book is published in the Uk by Head of Zeus’s 2nd March 2023
Dr. Tyson (Ty) Klein, is a scientist at CERN. He has just made a mindblowing discovery using data from the Hadron Collider, the largest and most powerful particle accelerator in the world. Ty has dedicated his entire life to his research, and he believes he has found a pattern in the collider data - an organised data stream, being broadcast as what he calls a quantum radio. If he is right, it could change the world. But he doesn’t realise how dangerous his discovery can be.
What could the signal mean? Is it a message from another planet? From another universe? From the future? Or something else entirely different that Ty can’t even fathom? Before Ty gets to work with his colleagues on the data, his life is turned upside down, and he finds himself on the run, trying to keep the research out of the hands of people who will stop at nothing to get it. He reaches out for help in unexpected places, finding in the process that his life is even more complicated than he thought.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I have a brief background in science and am married to a man with a PHD in Physics, and I can not wait to buy him a copy of this book to read and see what his take is on all the science in the book! It felt like a touch of Quantum Leap meets Stargate at times, two of my favourite shows growing up, yet still, it was completely different, unique and its own thing. I don’t want to give any more away and spoil the story for you, but there is a bit of everything in this one, drama, excitement, sci fi, apocalyptic worlds, time travel (or is it?) and more! The characters are clever, well developed, and have a lot of back story with a lot of intrigue to keep you engaged. The pace and flow of the story keeps you moving along at the same breakneck speed as Ty and his friends, turning page after page to keep up with their discoveries.
The tantalising ending left me waiting for more in this series (I hope!), and I am very much looking forward to seeing where this saga continues.
*I received this copy from NetGalley for review, but all opinions are my own.
A very clever and exciting book from A G Riddle. I had really enjoyed his previous book, Lost In Time, so I was looking forward to this and was not disappointed.. I know absolutely nothing about quantum physics but the science was explained very well and I actually learnt a lot from reading this! The characters are interesting and the way the story moves along is very well done. I really enjoy this type of SF book and A G Riddle is obviously a writer of great talent and I look forward to reading more of his future work.
Stargate Meets The One. There really is a lot to love about this book, and the fact that it has elements of two scifi movies that I personally love (one which became a cult classic, the other of which has largely been forgotten) was more icing on the cake and something I could use in this review to give an idea of the scope of this book without actually revealing any spoilers. If you like either of the IPs I listed in the title here, you're likely going to enjoy this more hard-scifi (ish) take on them, where Riddle manages to ground them at least somewhat more in actual reality... and yet still tell an intruging tale of family, secrets, and how far a person will go within the scope of what he has set up. Truly an excellent setup here, and apparently even Riddle himself doesn't yet know how long he'll take this series - but I for one can't wait to see where he takes it next. Will it be a Stargate type? Quantum Leap type? Something truly novel and groundbreaking? Riddle's talent as a storyteller - shown well in this very book - alone says the next book will be good. I challenge him to make it truly, truly *great*. Very much recommended.
I chose Quantum Radio because I have read other books by A. G. Riddle in the past and I am always looking for a good sci-fi story. This one had a mystery thrown in with the science and the fiction of quantum physics and the possibility of alternate times and universes. It reminded me of Fringe and Man in the High Castle but was in no way a copy of either. Quantum Radio had its own unique trajectory. There is just enough truth in the tale that you could believe it's possible.
My only criticism is that a lot of explanation was left to the last chapters and I would have liked some it to have been woven into the story sooner - particularly the family dramas and having Ty at least grasping the much bigger picture around them.
My thanks to A. G. Riddle, NetGalley and Head of Zeus/AdAstra for the ARC and opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend Quantum Radio!
Quite a few wordy diatribes here, on quantum physics, to paraphrase one character, of course they only mentioned one wordy diatribe, but that is because the characters, especially Ty, are being portrayed realistically and he would talk like that. I liked Ty's mother saying that the fearful are the ones that survived in evolution when she explained why public speaking made Ty nervous. The novel itself is a really good experience and one that I enjoyed, and as I said, the characters are well drawn, and there are a few insights like the one on public speaking, that are memorable. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book. It was a mind blowing journey through space and time.
I wanted to like this after enjoying the author's first book but found the mystery and overall concept of this one to be a miss.
