‘Sharon, Lois and Bram's Peanut Butter and Jelly’ by Sharon Hampson, Lois Lillienstein, Bram Morrison and Randi Hampson with illustrations by Qin Leng is a picture book based on a song by a beloved musical group.
There are a lot of steps in assembling a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It turns out there are also a lot of hand and body motions as well. The book is filled with the lyrics, movements and some fun animal friends as it illustrates the song.
This is a fun book, but it’s probably better if you have heard the song or can play it while reading. The illustrations are fun too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
One of my favorite songs from my child turned into a fun picture book for a new generation of sandwich lovers.
This was a great book to show children the behind the scenes of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The illustrations were colourful and added to the book.
This book made me nostalgic and reminded me of watching Sharon, Lois, and Bram on television as a child. It also had me googling the song so that I could see the actions of making the sandwich.
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Tundra Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this children’s book. #NetGalley #SharonLoisandBramsPeanutButterandJelly
A carefree and energetic book for children with easy to follow actions and lyrics!
Would work great for a little brain break in the classroom or just as a way to get involved with your children.
Adorable illustrations to keep children engaged too.
Another lovely outing with Sharon, Lois, and Bram that brought me back to my childhood and all the times I got to watch this lovely children's show.
Littles [and their adults that will remember this show] will love this and after watching a video of the show online, will also love acting out the actions and singing it at the top of their lungs. Oh how I wish I had littles to experience this with - it would be a glorious time.
Filled will fantastic illustrations [look closely, you will see familiar faces], this was a lovely nostalgic read that I hope many find and read as well. ♥
Thank you to NetGalley, Sharon Hampson, Lois Lillienstein, and Bram Morrison, Randi Hampson - Contributor, Qin Leng - Illustrator, and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks so much NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Tundra Books for this nostalgic arc!
5/5 stars!
This was a very touching trip down memory lane! Sharon, Lois, and Bram were a formative part of my childhood (as I'm sure they were for most Canadian adults! 💖 ) and seeing this new book coming out was such a lovely read! The art is as fun and cute as their other books, and the inclusivity with the food sensitivities was really nice!
I received an electronic ARC from Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley.
Delightful picture book to go along with the Peanut Butter and Jelly song. Families can sing and act out the motions as they read this together. A fun energy break for classrooms as well. The illustrations show the motions and capture the actions involved in making these ingredients from scratch. A high energy read alone or together.
I love that you are taking a classic song and giving it such a fun book to go with it. I adore doing story times with books that are popular songs that kids know. This is just a such a fun way to reintroduce this song. I love the animals in the art work and how they help create the sandwiches. I love the extra story put in around the song itself. There is just so many amazing things about this book. It is perfect for anyone who loves the song, or wants to introduce the song to their kids, or even just love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Overall a fantastic book. One I will be looking out for to use in story times real soon.
Thank you so much to Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book.
This is an illustrated edition of the peanut butter and jelly song by Skinnamarink. The illustrations are fun and lively and while this reader doesn’t know this song, this book was really fun to read.
Thank you Netgalley for this wonderful arc and trip down memory lane!
This book was an absolute delight. As a child of the 90s this was a blast back to my childhood. The illustrations were gorgeous and in no time you find yourself singing the words as if they never left you. This is an amazing memory and fun time to share with your children, great for old Sharon, Lois and Bram fans and new. A definite must have addition to any child’s bookshelf.
My daughter and I enjoyed the sing song layout of this particular book. It had a nice flow to it. I personally enjoyed how everything was made from scratch because I tell my daughter all the time that I made her from scratch. Our favorite page was the dig em up page. All the cute little illustrations throughout that page were a nice touch!
So much nostalgia having grown up listening to Sharon, Lois, and Bram, as well as watching their TV shows. This book is so playful and the artist has done a wonderful job of bringing the story and song to life. If you listen to the song before doing the book, it is a great reference tool for using with a class or in a storytime.
Maybe it is the nostalgia, but I had a good time with this book and then I had to go listen to the song. The illustrations are very bright and cheery and helps you get your happy on
What’s not to love about anything Sharon, Lois and Bram?
This fun, colourful book pays tribute to a 🎶 Sharon, Lois and Bram classic.
It’s even all inclusive in that it encourages making (non peanut, non traditional white bread) variations of the traditional PB&J sandwich. A prefect book to gift any youngster.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity sing along to this ARC.
I took a trip down memory lane with this one! A classic song from Sharon, Lois and Bram now in book form. They included a little blurb at the beginning of the book about the song itself - where it came from and how to join in. The illustrations are great and really fun. I also like how the song takes you through the whole process of making a pb and j! From washing your hands, baking, harvesting, crushing, eating and even cleaning up after yourself. A great story to help introduce procedural writing as well.
I was given a free eARC copy of this book on NetGalley from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, nostalgia! As a child I was a big fan of Sharon, Lois and Bram - I was thrilled when Skinnamarink book came out to buy for my children, and even more thrilled as more are released in the series. My 4 year old adored reading this advanced copy of Peanut Butter and Jelly and has asked that we buy a 'real' version. The illustrations are beautiful and I dare you not to sing along!
Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books and NetGalley for this ARC!
As a child I was a huge fan of Sharon, Lois, and Bram and I adored seeing yet another one of their songs brought to life in this book. The illustrations are beautiful and have lots of fun details that will make this book a fun one to read over and over again. Lots of diversity in the people illustrated on the pages, and the repetitive lyrics would make this a fun rhythm for read alouds or sing-alongs.
This was an adorable book that I had fun reading with my children. The words weren’t really the focus, if you’re familiar with the song, but merely a framework for the cute pictures. We enjoyed looking at them closely to find the little Easter eggs, like the beetle in the pile under the potty while the children are picking peanuts. A quick, cute read without any obvious agendas being foisted on kids.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy.
Read along to Sharon, Lois, and Bram's classic children's song, Peanut Butter and Jelly. The song is framed with updates to encourage healthy preparation and responsible cleanup. The catchy and interactive tune will entertain children whether you're reading one-on-one, to a small group, or even with a large crowd. The illustrations will enchant, intrigue, and warm your heart. Fond memories will arise for fans of The Elephant Show who have little ones of their own when they read the author notes.
I'm old enough to remember watching The Elephant Show when it came on. Skinnamarink and Peanut Butter and Jelly are old standbys in my children's song repertoire. Reading Peanut Butter and Jelly was a beautiful experience for me, made even more beautiful by my ten-year-old's loving reenactment of the song and its resultant activities.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who reads with kids - be they caregivers, teachers, librarians, etc. - and anyone who wants to be steeped in sweet nostalgia.
Adore this book. I grow up with the Elephant Show and remember this song well. I was so excited to see it again for new generation to read.
