A really enjoyable read. I was led to it because I live near a place called Haslemere. :)
I have since read some of Suzannes books and really enjoyed them, This is easy to follow and melt into.
A wonderful afternoon read to escape into a well written story.
Apologies for the delay in this review, i have been battling ill health.
Great story, lovely setting, enjoyed the charcters and the story very much. I thought it flowed really well and it was a really good read.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Lizzie and Cal. They meet when they were teenagers. They broke up until twelve years later. Lizzie had gone with her best friend to checkout a wedding venue. There she saw Cal. There was still an attraction. They started dating. They each had issues but together they worked them out and fell in love.
Lizzie found herself to be back to the Halesmere House to organised her best friend’s wedding. Given a choice she would not step into the house where she has many memoriesof Cal, her first real love who leave her. She has been avoiding going back there since the fateful day. Yet, she know deep down that Gemma is making the right decision for her wedding. Upon arrival, she found herself come to face to face with Cal, now a sought after blacksmith. Lizzie is forced to confront the past. Cal has his own studio at Halesmere and both of them need to find a way to get along to make the wedding a success.
The book has a very engaging story plot that really grab my attention. I fell in love with both Lizzie and Cal. Both of them had their own distinct personality. As a reader, you feel their love from the moment they met up and still am after so many years. Overall, it is an enjoyable read to me.
A lovely second chance romance book. When you feel like your heart is broken and you have hit rock bottom the world manages to bring love and happiness your way and turns it all around.
After the wedding has been cancelled a couple of times the bride and events manager return to their childhood home and it becomes not only the wedding but a chance at a second chance of love for the chief bridesmaid. Fantastic story, lovely setting and well worth 5 stars. You wont want to put this one down.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
When Lizzie's friend has complications with her wedding venues, she finds herself attending a hen weekend at Halesmere House, which holds bittersweet memories and heartbreak too. Wishing the very best for her friend she agrees to help plan the wedding there, but meets the man who broke her heart as a youngster.
It was great to meet all the characters and learn all about them. They quickly feel like old friends. Their hen weekend, although not my cup of tea, sounded amazing.
I loved the venue and look forward to more books in this series
This was a delightful romance. Lizzie Martin returns to Cumbria to plan her best friend Gemma's wedding after disaster strikes at the first two venues Gemma planned for her wedding. While there, she unexpectantly runs into her first love, Cal Ryan, twelve years after he left to go to New Zealand instead of going with her to St. Andrews, Scotland with her while she attended St. Andrews University. Does Lizzie still have feelings for Cal and he for her? Find out by reading this most entertaining romance. I highly recommend it to other romance readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.
A good escapist story, heartwarming and entertaing. A second chance romance, lovely setting, and sweet characters I rooted for.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Events planner and maid-of-honour Lizzie Martin knows her best friend Gemma is making the right decision for her wedding. After the original venue catches fire, and a space opens up at Halesmere House, it makes complete sense to move the wedding to the Lake District artists’ residence. But Lizzie has painful memories of Halesmere…
When she bumps into Cal, her first love, she is forced to confront the past. Now a sought-after blacksmith, Cal has his own studio at Halesmere (based on Halecat House in Cumbria) and the two must find a way to get along if this wedding isn’t going to be a complete disaster.
It soon becomes apparent that their attraction hasn't waned, but can Lizzie put their shared past behind her and learn to trust the man who left her once before?
My Opinion
This is a lovely, light-hearted read that has been lovely to read over a nice relaxing weekend. I have read the first book in this series however I feel that it could be read as a standalone. An engaging read with a plot that really grabs you. I couldn't get enough of this book, I wish there was another few chapters so I had more time with these great characters.
Rating 4/5
It was love at first sight for Lizzie and Cal when they met in the pub Cal was working in when she was 18 but after a blissful summer things started to fall apart and Cal left without saying goodbye
12 years later Lizzie is helping her best friend Gemma re arrange her wedding at Halesmere House in Cumbria where they grew up when she discovers that Cal works there.
Will Lizzie just ignore him or can she forgive him for leaving all those years ago ?
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Set in the Lake District and back at Halesmere House (but don't worry, this can definitely be read as a standalone). I enjoyed this light read.
Hooked! Honestly could not put this story down and have already recommended it to a few friends. This is a happy read which I so enjoyed. Thank you for letting me read this, it's going to be a book I will happily buy to add to my library and reread as often as I need for that happy factor.
Beautiful cover. Loved all the characters and how the story was written was perfectl. I'd give more stara if I could
Lizzie is the event planner and maid of honor at her best friends wedding, she runs into a past boyfriend, a second chance at love story.
I felt this book should have been a novella there was so much description and “padding” that I skipped a lot of it ….. some bits felt rushed and other bits went on forever ….. I was looking forward to it but just not for me
Another great read by Suzanne Snow. The 2nd book in the Lakes Series. I haven't read the 1st one yet, but that did not spoil my experience. I am hoping there will be a sequel in the story between Lizzie and Cal. Highly recommended.
Lizzie finds herself back at Halesmere House to help friend Gemma plan her wedding. She thought her love for Cal was a thing of the past, until she sees him again. I did find the focus on events of the past a bit boring. Otherwise, a good read.
This is a lovely story by Suzanne Snow. A lovely romance with great characters and packed with details of friends, friendships, family and set in beautifully described countryside. Well worth reading.
A truly stunning book from Suzanne; her books get better and better. It beautifully written with lovely descriptions.
This is book 2 in the Halesmere house series, and once again, Suzanne has made me desperately want to visit the Lake District area. Her description of the scenery is sublime!
In this book, Lizzie and Cal get a second chance at love. It was love at first sight at age 18 for Lizzie, and after a blissful summer, everything comes to a heartbreaking end for them.. 12 years later, both of them are back at Halesmere house!
I adored seeing some of the characters from the first book and how their stories too have developed. It was like meeting up with old friends.
The touch of mystery and intrigue was a delight, and I liked the sweet fade to black romance.
I loved Lizzie's friends and how supportive everyone is of each other, it makes me want to pack my bags and find myself a flat at Halesmere house, I'm sure I can come up with a skill to contribute.
Now I need a hammock, a roll top bath, and some cocktails to make my life complete.
Thank you canelo for the arc in exchange for my honest opinions.
