“Their Resting Place” by B.R. Spangler is the eighth installment in the Detective Casey White series, and it’s a thrilling ride from start to finish.

The story begins with a haunting scene: a girl lying motionless in a field of swaying sunflowers, her lifeless eyes staring up at the sky as rain gently falls on her face. This girl is 20 year old Charlie Robson, and the red markings on her body reveal a gruesome death by arrow wounds. Detective Casey White is called to the scene, and the mystery begins to unfold.

Charlie was part of a group known as The Sunflower Girls, friends from an archery club who have since drifted apart. As Casey delves deeper into the investigation, another member of the group is found dead, also killed by arrows, with a sunflower petal and a chilling note that reads “Guilty.” It becomes clear that someone is targeting these women, picking them off one by one. But the question is, why?

The plot is a rollercoaster of suspense and twists. The characters are well-developed. You get to know The Sunflower Girls, their secrets, and their fears, which makes the stakes feel personal. The theme of friendship and the dark secrets that can lurk beneath the surface is explored in a way that’s both intriguing and relatable.

The book also touches on themes of trust and betrayal, as Casey realizes that the danger might be closer to home than she thought. The tension builds as the investigation leads to a climax that is both shocking and satisfying.

A good read and another good case in the series. I didn;t enjoy it quite as much as the previous ones but it was certainly different and I'm excited to read future cases.

Wow from the first chapter to the last this book grabs you and doesn’t let go. I loved this book and characters, and thought I had figured out who the villain was but I was wrong and I loved that I was surprised. I highly recommend this book and series. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for my arc.

An excellent addition to the series!

Casey is tasked with finding out who is murdering the members of the Sunflower Girls, one by one. It takes a special kind of someone (and not in a good way!) to hunt someone down using a bow and arrow.....

Whilst she is investigating these crimes, she is planning on leaving the Outer Banks with her fiance Jericho, to follow her daughter Tracy. She has been newly reunited with Tracy, and she is not going to miss a second of her life, going forward. However, is this really the best move for her?

Great book, an intense thrill ride, all the way.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

I love the Casey White books and this is a particularly good one. Casey has to deal with the murders of young women who are similar in age to her own daughter so this is a case which is almost too close to home. This author always manages to capture how each of the characters feels at any given time which makes the stories more realistic. I think that a book holds your attention more when you feel as if you know the characters involved. I loved this and was so shocked when the identity of the killer came to light. I really hope Casey and Jericho don't go to Philadelphia, there are more stories to be told here.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

Number 8 in the series, and can easily be read as a standalone. I was continually guessing through the book so that was a huge positive for me. The ending was unpredictable so a sure fire winner for me.

Love this series and the newest addition is no exception. I was sucked in from the beginning and couldn't read fast enough. I really enjoyed being surprised by the villain. Normally I can figure out who did it pretty quickly, but this one was a total surprise. Looking forward to the next one.

I picked this book to read because I was dying to have B.R. Spangler on my show. It was my first Casey White book to read. It blew me away. I loved the depth of the characters that form the backbone of the series, and the mystery was creepy and spot-on!

TRIGGER WARNING: child sexual abuse
The body of a young woman is found in a field of sunflowers. Her body is riddled with wounds and these are found to be arrow injuries. Casey White is called upon by the victim's family to investigate and finds a link to a current attempt to overturn a conviction...
Their Resting Place is the 8th book to feature Detective Casey White, her family and team. There are no spoilers about the crimes in previous books but there are details about the friendships and relationships that continue from earlier books.
A young woman is dead; she is a relative of a police officer who calls in Casey and her team. Links to the past are quickly made and Casey is repulsed by the historic child sex abuse she has to confront. She tries to protect other potential victims but more members of the archery team are found dead, hunted and killed with arrows.
Some of the death descriptions and crime scene details are quite grisly even for the experienced detectives. I enjoyed the information about legal cases which forces Casey out of her comfort zone. There were plenty of twists and potential suspects so I was kept guessing until the end.
The book includes a personal plotline which continues over the course of the book and isn't resolved by the end. Will Casey and Jericho move to Philiadelphia to be with her daughter, even though neither of them want to leave their home? There is a great cliffhanger to tempt you to read the next book...
Their Resting Place is an entertaining and intriguing detective mystery novel.

This is a series I was unfamiliar with so there was a lot of backstory that was hinted at to keep the storyline moving forward but it did not detract from the present book, the reader was able to fill in the blanks.
Main character Casey White, detective, is caught in an emotional decision that involves a move from the Outer Banks to Philadelphia to live close to the daughter, long missing, and now back in her life as an adult. But Casey’s fiancé isn’t sure about leaving his home and job.
Interspersed in her personal crisis is her job, which is trying to discover the killer of several women, all of them with a connection to high school and a team coach. This coach was an abuser of the girls and was sent to prison by their testimony. Now out, he has become the prime suspect in the murders. He professes that he loved these girls and they him. It’s a gripping look into the teenage views of love and how emotionally dependent they become when shown attention that they assume is undying love.
Various types of love are presented in the book: some are pathologic, some unconditional, some so deep that its loss makes you change your whole life. Casey's conflict both in her personal life and her job is the running theme in the book.
Needless to say the epilogue segues into the next travails of Casey White.

Absolutely fantastic read. Thanks to netgalley and bookouture for allowing me to read this arc. B.R. Spangler never fails to deliver. I was kept guessing right to the end. I can't wait for the next one and finding out what's ahead for Casey and Jerry Jerricho.

I am not sure I have read any of this series, but I will definitely be looking all the books up now. It fills you in with everything you need to know about the previous books in the series and I love Casey’s backstory. Her daughter, Jerico and her upcoming move make for an interesting personal life to balance with the case. The setting of the outer banks was also great. It’s one of my favorite places to vacation.

The team worked relentlessly to track down the killer. What started as one murder, turned into two with the idea there could be more. Told from Casey’s POV, the reader knows all she does as she is working the crime. The book moved at a quick pace and I did not want to put it down.

I highly recommend this read. It’s the best crime book I’ve read this year. It is on par with Lisa Regan and Angela Marsons’ series.

What a terrifying opener – a young woman hunted like an animal, before the fatal arrow hits and she recounts her paramedic training and what her body will experience – seriously chilling!!

The rest of the book is at pace as Casey and the team try to track and catch the perpetrator of this heinous killing. But this is not just a one off, no siree!! What I experienced was more brutal murderers at the hands of some psychopath archer!

Their Resting Place is brutal. It’s rare to have a modern-day murder weapon being a bow and arrow. This method of killing requires skill, training, practice to be effective! This is one dedicated killer!!!

Spangler has crafted a bloodthirsty twisted crime thriller with personal threads interwoven seamlessly into the story and oh boy what a cliffhanger ending!!!! 😱😱😱 I need book 9 stat!!!!!!!

This was an impulse blog tour that is a blog tour I chose to join after reading the blurb and thinking “I must do this”.
My gut feeling was spot on because I couldn’t stop reading and had to go back and buy other books in this series (don't ask why I didn't do it before, it's complicated
The characters, the plot, the twists were well done and made this story unputdownable.
Casey is an interesting character: a strong woman who had to fight to get things right. She’s a well-rounded character, full of nuances and likeable.
The plot is twisty and there’s a lot of darkness, we know since the beginning that there’s somebody full of rage and evil who’s killing these girls.
Even if there’s enough clues to guess the root cause I couldn’t guess the culprit nor the motive.
This is a tense crime thriller but I appreciated the empathy of the author toward the girls, how he dealt with the more sensitive topics and the sufferance of those grieving.
A well plotted, gritty, and gripping story that I strongly recommend.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this arc, all opinions are mine.
