Ok Leanne - I see what you are writing about and I have to say I like it. While I don’t normally read (what I consider) police procedural books, I am here for this one. I really liked the female MC (Kendal Beck) as she is portrayed as bada** and likable and very realistic. She is an FBI agent and she is working with one of her friends - a Denver police detective - named Adam Taylor. His niece disappears and they are both on it as we know time is of the essence to not only find her - but find her alive.
The ending was one I was not prepared for - and that’s all I can say without giving it away.
For me personally, this was a little hard to read as it deals with s** trafficking of children and it was just hard to get through. I also did not read the first book in the series, so I think that hindered my ability to know the characters as well as I could have (will have to go back and read at some point).
This was such a quick read for me as the chapters were short, and succinct (with the perfect amount of explaining and scene description) and the whole book was under 300 pages. Overall, I am not sure I would recommend it unless you are a fan of Law & Order: SVU or Criminal Minds - because that’s what this reminds me of.
Thank you to Net Galley, Crooked Lane Books, and author Leanne Kale Sparks for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm a huge sucker for cop/FBI thriller books. So after reading the description for this I knew I wanted to read it. From the get go the story started off fast with a robbery gone wrong and a good samaritan saving a child in the store. From there you follow Special Agent Beck and Detective Adam, friends and colleagues, who are trying to solve the case. Things take a bad turn when Adam's niece gets kidnapped while both him and Beck are at her hockey game. The story intertwines the two cases that ultimately end up overlapping. This story had a grip on me from the start!
In this second book in a series (can be read as standalone) Kendall and Adam are put in a case together again when a store is robbed. Not too long after, Adam’s niece goes missing and the team is desperate to find her. Sparks has another great book in her hands. Her writing keeps you guessing on each case as they are worked. If you enjoy police crime novels, this is a series you will want to read. Kendall is very good at her job and is an excellent agent. She is a good strong female protagonist that you can get behind. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the advanced reader copy! This book is part of a series, which I did not know when I received this ARC, but can 100% be read as a standalone. This book is in a dual POV with Adam and Kendall narrating for the audience, and they are trying to solve two crimes at once. The story had a lot of characters which made it hard to keep track of who was who, but at the end, it all made sense. This book consists of numerous plot twists, but the ending is really where my jaw dropped. I would give this book 4 stars, I enjoyed it immensely but would recommend people look up trigger warnings for this book as it dealt with hard topics.
Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC of this book! I hadn’t read the first Kendall Beck book, but this book stands alone in my opinion, so it was fine.
The pacing was fast, the subject matter tough to read and sad, but overall I liked the book and finished it very quickly! Good page turner.
One thing I didn’t love was the “bro-y” language and exchanges between the FBI agents and cops- it felt a little bit forced to me and plays into stereotypes, but that’s just my personal opinion. The ending definitely surprised me and the twists kept me wondering how it was all going to end.
I really enjoyed this book!
I would categorize it as a Police Drama and this is not my typical book genre, but my normal TV genre. The way it was written and started off, I was pulled into the story immediately. This is book number two of the Kendall Beck series but I'd definitely recommend this to be read as a standalone as well for those who haven't read the first.
The ending wrapped things up perfectly, I would highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books!
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this ARC.
Every Missing Girl is about FBI special agent Kendall Beck and Denver Homicide Detective Adam Taylor who are trying to solve a double homicide at the same time as the disappearance of Adams niece, Frankie.
"One discovery after another leads Beck and Taylor closer to the truth, as they close in on the devastating truth about the fates of the missing girls—and the many who came before them." - Leanne Kale Sparks.
A few minor SPOILERS!
A few warnings for this book are kidnapping, violence, murder, human trafficking, child abuse in different forms.
I only watch TV shows like Criminal Minds, CSI etc. so this book was perfect for me. I enjoyed reading about the two different cases and finding out one thing after the other that might connect the two. I hadn´t read the first book in this series beforehand and i think maybe it would have made it even better. But I definitely recommend this book if you´re into criminal dramas. Just keep in mind this might be a bit darker since it´s involving a lot of child abuse! I think the ending of this was quite cut off. I would have liked to read more about what happened after the discovery. That is why I gave this 3 stars.
Advanced reader copy provided by NetGallery for an honest review
I enjoyed how two seemingly unrelated crimes were linked together into a much bigger scheme. I also enjoyed the two main characters Kendall and Adam.
Weirdly I also expect books to have a happy ending but this one did not, which in a sense made it better. It made the story more realistic and gave it more depth.
I would recommend this series to someone that enjoys criminal minds or law n order SVU
This story centers around two investigations being conducted by FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck & Detective Adam Taylor. One of the investigations is about Frankie, a missing teen and the niece of Detective Taylor.
Kendall and Adam have an endearing friendship, and I enjoyed how their dynamic was written. Kendall’s character is extremely well-written with witty internal monologues. Kendall’s character is relatable, and she feels like your friend by the end of the book.
To note, this was the 2nd book in the Kendall Beck thriller series, but it was first I read in the series. I read it as a stand-alone, and I didn’t feel like I missed out on the plot.
I would definitely recommend this to others. I would categorize this as police procedural / suspense. This was my first read by this author, and I look forward to reading more from her.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC in return for an honest review.
FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck has teamed up with Denver PD Detective Adam Taylor to solve two cases; a double homicide inside a store and the disappearance of Adam’s Niece, Frankie.
One of the victims inside the store has ties to child sex trafficking that leaves Special Agent Beck and Detective Taylor scouring every lead to search for kidnappers and to find Frankie before it’s too late.
For someone that grew up on the Detective D.D. Warren series by Lisa Gardner, I’m a sucker for a good detective book and this one kept me on the edge of my seat until the ending that left my heart shattered. 💔
This was a fast paced mystery that kept my eyes glued to the pages. Just when you think the search is over, a lead turns up empty and readers are left with uncertainty.
This is the second book in the Kendall Beck series and although there are flashbacks from the first book, I feel like this can be read as a stand-alone. I have every intention of going back and reading the first book, The Wrong Woman.
1.5 stars rounded up to 2
I wanted to love this book but I didn’t. The concept and the writing fell flat and could use a lot of work.
I think the characters were poorly written and lacked a lot of substance. Also, we’re reading a book about cops and FBI agents and the entire time I felt like they were terrible at their job. They missed so many obvious things or didn’t pursue certain leads.
I also think the author needed to do more research into law enforcement because there were some things I noticed that were inaccurate.
There were some consistency errors. For example when they first interview the boyfriend of the shooting victim they mention the little girl who was in the convenience store to get him to open up to them.. but later when they interview him again he mentions he found out about the girl from the news.
The ending was such a major let down, and made reading the rest of the book feel pointless. I felt like the father, Mark, had barely any reaction or emotion to finding out his daughter died. For someone who was super close with his daughter I expected a lot more from him.
I received an eARC from NetGalley as well as a physical copy from Rockstar Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
I love this series!
Leanne Kale Sparks knows how to keep her readers wanting more.
I love Kendall and how she is such a strong, independent woman. We need more strong women characters in books.
A great mystery with an ending that will shake you up.
This is book #2 in the Kendall Beck series, but I read it as a standalone and I didn’t feel I was missing too much by not reading book #1 first. The author makes some references to things that happened in the past, but she’s telling you about the past, not expecting the reader to remember from book #1.
In this police procedural crime thriller, FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck and Homicide Detective Adam Taylor are brought together and are working two seemingly separate cases. Kendall is working the case of Adam’s niece’s disappearance and Adam is working on a double homicide at a convenience store. The two cases are being worked on at the same time, and at times I felt there was too much going on and too many different characters introduced that it was slightly confusing at times, especially when they had similar names (ex Mitch and Mick).
The ending brings all the loose strings of this story together without an unnecessary shocking twist that I have grown to expect from a lot of the books I’ve read recently.
Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this advance review copy! When the book was sent to my Kindle, the formatting was way off- no indentations at the beginning of paragraphs, line breaks in the middle of sentences, the authors name and title of the book randomly in the middle of sentences- it made it a little harder to read.
Thank you Netgally for allowing me to read and review this book!
Every Missing Girl, I found this book to be very interesting and it had my attention the minute I started reading. It is about FBI special agent Kendall Beck, and local detective Adam Taylor. They are set to work together to help solve a case of a missing girl in Denver who went missing in the Rocky Mountains. While working on this case Adam finds out that his niece has gone missing, he know has to find her. Frankie, his niece is missing and they don’t know what happened or where she is. They know now that they are dealign with something bigger then they had imagined, they know that there is someone out there. While searching for these two missing girls, they are now able to start to piece together information that they are finding but they are scared that it might be way too late to find these girls alive. To find out if they are alive and who is doing this you have to read Every Missing Girl. I won’t spoil it for you!
Good book and now I need to read the first book in the series. If you like suspense and don’t mind reading about child trafficking then you will enjoy this book.
Boom! Just like that I got to review a copy of the second book in the Kendal Beck series by: Leanne Kale Sparks. Her first book, "The Wrong Woman" was a outstanding FBI procedural and I rated it five stars which at almost 100 reviews and growing is pretty rare for me. So when "Every Missing Girl" popped up I requested it about as fast as Lance Armstrong can dope....er climb up the Alps.
This series stars Kendal Beck and she is as badass as you get. When she is on a case she give zero fu&%s and relentlessly takes it to the end. The plot of this one is pretty straightforward. One night watching her friend: Denver Homicide Detective Adam Taylor's niece play hockey we find out Taylor's niece disappears without a trace. This one is personal as both The FBI under Kendal Beck and Denver PD under Adam Taylor rush to find her before it's too late.
The Good: Outstanding procedural work. It's entertaining and tense. This one goes A-B in spectacular fashion. Also..... It's hilarious in parts. These are FBI and PD agents and their back and forth banter is as real and funny as it gets. I think the book really captures the agitation and snarks they throw each other as only people who deal with horrible things for a living do to let off steam. Many books try and do this and it comes as annoying but this one nails it.
The book is short and under 300 pages. With short chapters. Seriously, why do some books have to be 500 pages for similar plots? Who has time for that?
The ending! Holy Crap, I am not going to spoil the book but this book nails it! It's a gut punch and this series isn't scared to kick your ass.
The bad: Not much. I will say I think Kendal Beck was a tad bit one dimensional in this book and maybe tried to come across as too much of a badass? Ok, just kidding.... LOL you can never be too much of a badass. But still a little one dimensional but too be fair this book isn't really about her.
Ok, I think we have a good series in the works going with Kendal Beck and I can't wait for the next one! Maybe a Kendal Beck and Josie Quinn crossover? Just kidding....
I really appreciate Crooked Lane Books for giving me the opportunity to review this book and it has a publication date of February 7, 2023.
2.25/5 stars! This is the second installment in the Kendall Beck series. I hadn't read the first book, which didn't seem to impact this reading experience at all. I feel a little bad about my feedback because special agent Beck was a decently intelligent and likable character. Unfortunately, Detective Taylor ruins that entirely. I have never read such a manchild ridiculous character in a thriller story. He seemed to exist only as a plot device to create problems and had no redeeming characteristics. He ruined the story as a whole for me and I don't think I'd chance another read by this author unless it was recommended by a friend.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
FBI Agent Kendall Beck teams up with Denver police detective Adam Taylor to investigate a robbery/murder at a local convenience store. A little girl is found at the store and they wonder why she's there. What happened to bring this little girl into the murder at a convenience store. Evidence piles up and they realize it was a kidnapping. and possible sex ring. That's the only hints I'm going to give. You must read the book to find out more. When Adam's niece, Frankie turns up missing after a hockey game, their fear intensifies. As with any missing child, the police must look at the family first. Questions and suspicions surface. Kendall and Adam race to find Frankie. This is the second book in the Kendall Beck series. However, this was my first book by this author, and I'll definitely be going back to read book one in the series. The author sure knows how to keep the pages turning with suspicions and fears. This is a must read if you love a page-turning thriller. Thank you to Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to give an honest review.
This is a story of missing children. Written by a talented and gifted author, the story is resplendent with descriptive phrases. Details abound. Red herrings kept me guessing. Family dynamics added to the story. This novel, fiction, reads like nonfiction and would make a dynamic television show. It teaches also that we must protect our children at all times. Dangers abound. Although the book had an abrupt ending, I really liked it. Some of the vocabulary could be left out. It did not add to the story. That being said, this is a good mystery. This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author.

FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck, is a total badass who is partnered up with Homicide Detective Adam Taylor to solve two major cases. One being a double homicide, spinkle in some robbery and sex trafficking. The other is the disappearance of Adam’s niece, Frankie, who went missing from her hockey game, where both the MCs and her parents were in attendance.⠀
I actually liked all of the characters. Kendall was strong and independent, but not cold or standoffish in any way. Adam was not the typical male detective trying to play hero. Were there times where I thought it was a little OTT, sure, but not to the point where I actually couldn't stand them. They had great chemistry that was not complicated by any romantic relationship, though I feel like there could be later on! The was a fair bit of dialogue, which often helped in determineing which case was being discussed! ⠀
There were many twists over the course of the story due to there being two separate cases being investigated. Some aspects were a little predictable, but when is there ever a thriller where every single angle is a surprise. The one thing that actually did surprise me was how both cases tied into each other, and ultimately how the cases wrapped up! Bravo to the author on her brave coice of ending! Absolutely brilliant! ⠀
There were a couple of things for me that could have made this a 5⭐️. One, I wish it were slightly longer to give enough time to flesh out the trails of. The second half seemed a bit rushed. Also, I wish we got a bit more of a realistic view of the case. Like Adam would have been taken off the case immediuately, but I've watced enough police procedurals to know that it wouldn't make for good entertainment! The exposition was also pretty slow, which also helps in making the resolutions seem like they were a bit rushed. Was I able to guess who the guilty parties were? Yes, but again the wrap up was executed well. ⠀
⠀
Overall a solid thriller that you can binge in one sitting! ⠀
