This was nice, quick summer read. The main character is a daughter who has been lied to about her father her whole life. When she finds out who he really is, and goes to visit, her life changes. I liked the new, found family part of the story, the romance involved, and the openness of the main character to try and see where this unexpected event would take her.

When Summer discovers that the father she always thought had abandoned her didn't even know she existed, her whole world changed. The lies that her mother had told her had left her feeling unwanted. So she focused her time and energy on business, which she knew she could do well. Finding out that her father wanted to get to know her and that she had this whole other family gave her hope for the future she'd always wanted, but never dared dream of.

I loved Summer's resilience and her ability to forgive, even when the people who loved her most did things that hurt her. And the sweet slow-burn romance with her father's young business partner, Cody, made the story all the more enjoyable.

Thank you to Jennifer Ryan, Avon, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

A great break from my usual thrillers, Summer's Gift was an entertaining, enjoyable read. The story line was familar but Jennifer Ryan added enough unique characters and events that it didn't feel like a reread.
When a young woman takes a DNA test and finds her father and a ready made step/half family, it opens up many options. When she chooses to ignore her mother and grandfather's advice and travel to meet her new family, the scene is set for ups and downs to keep her wondering if she made the right decision. And since this is a Jennifer Ryan romance, you know she'll come out on top in the end.

A simple DNA test turns 8 people’s lives upside down. 3.5 stars

When Summer meets a handsome man at her office, she immediately thinks her mother is trying to set her up again, after all, she’s done it multiple times before. But Cody isn’t there because of her mother, instead, for her father. A father she was told didn’t want her, but in reality, he never knew she existed.

The story that follows is emotional, sometimes funny, sometimes sad. Family is wonderful but can also be frustrating and an upheaval. So can new romances. I liked that Summer was a powerful executive, but she found a way to make time to know her new family. At times I wanted to slap Natalie and her mother for her attitude, but she was 18. The slow build romance with Cody was good too. I’ll be on the lookout for more works by this author.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Summer Gift was a ok read for me but it was not an easy, flowing story to follow.
There is a lot of family drama going on!

Summer’s Gift is the latest romance from the talented Jennifer Ryan. Summer’s Gift is a remarkable story about trust, lies, family, forgiveness, and of course love. I absolutely enjoyed getting know all the amazing characters especially Summer and Cody. I loved reading Cody and Summer’s love story and was rooting for them from the beginning.

A wonderful story of a family divided and reunited. A young girl believing her father didn't want her when I fact he never knew about her. A grown man disappointed with his daughter not sharing the truth with her daughter, his granddaughter takes control of the situation setting on place a chain of events that will forever alter the fabric of their lives.

There's empathy, forgiveness, love and second chances to keep the reader engaged with this heartwarming story.

Although I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this story. A Contemporary romance, the story centers around Summer who feels a part of her life is missing as she doesn’t know her father. A DNA taken on a whim turns out she has a dad who has a family and want to find out about her father. Cody, her father’s partner, finds Summer and convinces her to come meet her dad and his family. Cody is a big part of this story as he and Summer fall in love, however both have trust issues as well as family issues. A well done story with lots of angst. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Life is complicated. Situations kind of muddy the works and then people intervene creating even more chaos. That is the basic story behind SUMMER’S GIFT by Jennifer Ryan. We are led to believe the situation evolved over time but in truth there were several forces at work. Now we have reached a point where there is needed intervention. Hopefully not too late to mend some very broken fences.
This is the story of Summer Sutherland Weston. It is kind of a connect the dots adventure thanks to a DNA test. Summer’s grandfather, Charles, concocts a scheme to do something he should have done years ago. Be truthful to the granddaughter he absolutely adores. Problem had been his daughter Jessica. Jessica does not manage life very gracefully. So Charles had systematically steered their lives away from any turmoil. Meaning follow Jessica’s lead so as to avoid upsetting her. Nothing guaranteed mind you. But in short this meant keeping Summer in the dark about who had fathered her.
Summer’s life was filled with business success and had an amazing future with the family wealth and good fortune. But she did not really have any relationships that round out her life. Her mother basically ensured her that her father was not interested in either of them. So their family unit consisted of grandfather, uncle, mother, and Summer who was the core of their lives.
Now back to DNA. That DNA test kit was distributed to folks at the corporation and a school’s biology class. And now Summer and a child name Haley Weston are going to discover that they have a sister neither knew about.
I know, sounds far-fetched, but this was carefully designed. This was the way that Charles could alert Summer that she had a father out there. Perhaps one that would be interested in learning about her. You see here is where the mystery had begun. Jessica had her baby but never contacted the man who would be the baby’s father. All done on purpose to protect Jessica. Summer was in many instances the adult in her little family. While Jessica floated from one disastrous relationship to another, Summer was the anchor. It was time for a change. Summer deserved to know about the existence of her father.
Finding out he had a grown daughter was certain to shake up his family. Nate Weston is married with two daughters, happily married to a woman he adores and a successful businessman. But more than that Nate is a lovely, loving husband and father. Hearing that there is a daughter he never knew makes him determined to find her. So his partner Cody is sent to make a smooth connection with this Summer. Sort of pave the way for Summer to meet his family. And so important for him to meet her.
Jennifer Ryan creates a group of amazing characters that have to defy the odds and hopefully find a middle ground. Not going to be an easy task, but what in life is so easy. Discovering that you have a father and sisters is eye opening for sure. Summer always wanted a big family. Question is how well she will be accepted.
SUMMER’S GIFT really introduces a pretty new element into relationships with the inclusion of DNA testing. Making long lost connections seems acceptable now. But unheard of in the not-so-distant past. It could be considered a gift or not. Jennifer Ryan brings to life a situation that is very possible. Overseen with grace and care the story of Summer’s discovery is a wonderful tale. Jennifer Ryan brings this story to life. Hopefully with a happy conclusion as her grandfather hoped for.

This was a pleasant contemporary romance novel with a great cast of characters that form a blended family.

The story takes place in Texas and California. There's plenty of drama as secrets are uncovered and lies exposed. I think it is a great summer read and will recommend to my followers.

This book really drew me into the story.  It was an emotional and heartfelt story about Summer.  I was intrigued by her upbringing, her relationship with her mom, Jessica, and her relationship with her grandfather, Charles Sutherland, CEO of Sutherland Industries in Texas.I felt sorry for Summer as she was being groomed to one day take over her grandfather's job.  I liked that Summer was a strong, independent woman, but all she did was work.  I found it interesting she did not know who her father was until her grandfather devised a sneaky way for Summer to learn the truth and to discover a family she longed for and to be a part of that family.
I found this book to be interesting and realistic as I became invested in Summer's Gift.  I laughed at times and I wanted to cry at other times.  This book was definitely a page turner and I really enjoyed how Summer met Cody Larkin.  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Heartwarming story about finding where you belong. Summer was always told that her father didn't want her. But after finding out the truth she sets out to meet him and her stepsisters.

I feel like this is my “umpteenth” book on DNA results on a father, mother, daughter, etc. I mean honestly, is this a new trend? This book was slow moving and I found myself skimming through the middle parts because it just kept saying the same thing over and over. Summer longed to find out how who her father was and it just went on and on and on. This one didn’t do much for me. Just ok. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. Today is publication day!

Summer has always felt that she wasn't good enough for people to love. Her Mom has Nannies watch her when she was younger, while her Mom went off with her men friends or new husbands. When Summer asked about her Dad, her Mom told her that he didn't want her.

Summer did know that her Grandfather Charles loved her and he taught his business when she was younger and then she is being groomed to take it over when he is no longer able to run it.

This book is an emotional but really good read and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did. I found it hard to put it down. I really enjoyed reading this and think you will too.

A wonderful summer read from a favorite author of mine. Plenty of heart and drama to keep the pages turning. I will definitely be able to recommend this to a wide variety of readers.

This is my first book by this author (who is not to be confused with the author of the same name who writes historical fiction set around wartime) and I enjoyed the read. Summer is a nice woman who has been grown up believing that her father didn't want her thanks to the lies told to her by her mother and backed up by her grandfather by his silence. When the truth is revealed to her it is not surprising that she is absolutely furious and feeling like the bottom has dropped out of her world. With the support of her father's business partner, Cody, Summer heads to California to meet her biological father and his family.

I liked that this wasn't all sunshine and roses. While one of her sisters is thrilled to learn of her existence the other one is not quite as enthused. Summer has to come to terms with what she knows now and how she feels about her family - both newly discovered and the one she grew up with. The communication between Cody and Summer was really nice and I liked that Summer is able to call her mother on her behavior.

What kept this from being a complete winner of a story for me was the writing style. While I enjoyed the book I did find it a bit stilted and dialogue heavy. I did like the characters and the story and am looking forward to to reading more of this author.

I knew I was going to enjoy this book as soon as I read the summary, but the story was so much more than enjoyable. Emotional, heart breaking at times, with strong characters and a “what if” storyline. When Nate & Miranda’s daughter took a DNA test, she never dreamt that she would find another sister! In her excitement to tell her family, she didn’t understand what this would mean. Summer Sutherland comes from an extremely wealthy family, but she always wanted to know her father; who was he and why didn’t he want her? Her mother went from husband to husband, but never told her the truth…that her father didn’t know that she existed. When Nate’s friend and business partner, Cody, learns about Summer, he agrees to meet her and find out why she never contacted her father and the story continues to grow from there. Summer’s strong character is evident when she learns of her mother’s lies, her joy in finally meeting her father, but things will not always go smoothly. Summer and Cody’s attraction upsets someone who felt they could be the most important person in his life. An absolutely beautiful story of family conflicts overcome by love. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Based on the synopsis I expected to love this book but it didn’t resonate with me in the least. I found the characters very unsympathetic and that ruined the whole story

Summer is the time for rebirth and second chances. When Summer learns that her grandfather and mother lied about her father's wishes, it sends her into a tailspin. Learning that he didn't know that she existed is a bitter pill to swallow as while growing up was told her father wasn't interested in having a relationship.

Leaving behind her grandfather's safety net, Summer explores her father's world. That includes two ready made sisters and a stepmother with a side serving of a business partner whom Summer feels an immediate attraction. Will this six-week gift turn into a forever family or does the present have a shelf life?

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #SummersGift in exchange for an honest review. I read the book in a single sitting as I wanted to know its outcome. Jennifer Ryan's charismatic characters and poignant scenes will have readers paging through the novel to discover the truth.

Unique romance story set in Carmel and Texas. This book feautured some likeable characters who struggle with a family secret. I found I liked the characters even though they were rich, super successful and could do whatever they wanted. The characters were down to earth and relateable. The book has family drama woven in to upset the building romance. We caught glimpses of the Carmel and Texas settings. The setting was mostly the large family home set in Carmel. This was a quick and entertaining read. Thank you Netgalley.
