Thank you, Levine Querido, for allowing me to read The Secret Summer Promise early.
A cute and colorful cover and a cute and colorful story. Loved it!
This was such a cute, coming of age romance. One about taking up space, celebrating one’s uniqueness, and being proud of who you are. I absolutely love that this novel featured so much diversity through the characters and highlighted the beauty of that diversity! A wonderful YA read, I will definitely be recommending!!! Thank you Net Galley & Keah Brown for this eARC.
I tried to read this I really did. I know this is an uncorrected proof, but there was just too many typos for me to keep reading. Also, I am 27 and way to old to be reading this book. It felt so childish. And I just didn’t want to waist my time. Would be great for younger readers though.
I'm glad this book exists, because having a story where the main plot is romance and the main character just happens to have cerebral palsy is so good and important! But it definitely read like a debut novel, both in terms of prose and in terms of story development. I felt like the conflicts were resolved way too easily, and it made it difficult to root for Hailee and Drea's relationship because it kind of felt like one of those toxic interdependent queer friendships a lot of queer girls have around this age. I hope Brown gets the opportunity to write more YA books though, because I'm sure she'll improve!

I would like to start out by thanking not only NetGalley, but also Keah Brown and her publisher for allowing me early access to this eBook in exchange for an honest review.
The Secret Summer Promise is enjoyable and heartfelt with excellent representation. The story is so compelling, you won’t want to put the book down until you’ve read the entire thing. Because the character of Andrea Williams is so well written, readers are able to relate to her. If someone is looking for a book with a lot of heart, some romance, friendships, and self-acceptance, look no further than this book! I am excited to see what else Keah Brown writes in the future, and I know whatever it is, is going to be as big of a hit as I know this book will be.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC!
This was such a sweet, fun, breezy read! Obviously a great read for the summertime, but good for anytime! I loved the representation because it didn't feel forced or awkward, the characters were adorable, it went over important topics that are relatable but the story was still light and easy. Overall, such an enjoyable time!

Andrea Williams, is actually such an amazing character!!
She has created the BSE (Best Summer Ever) list.
It comes with 9 very simple steps.
The 9th being, falling out of love with her best friend, Hailee.
The secret summer promise was fast paced, and had amazing characters 🤭
Thank you Netgalley for an arc of this book!

The Secret Summer Promise by Keah Brown is such a wholesome, laugh out loud, reflective and wholesome YA romance story. I love the queer rep and disability rep and the authentic voice each of the character in Andrea's community- and a great community of support she has!
Andrea is in love with her best friend, Hailey, and she decides she is going to make herself fall out of love by dating the most popular boy at school, George. As a reader, I initially saw the charm in George and believed him to serious about pursuing Andrea. This made me so happy for her character. However, over the course of the story, George really shows his true colors and hurts Andrea in a major way that forces her to ask herself what she really wants and if she is willing to continue to lie to herself about it.
The dialogue throughout the story was so well written and provided insight into the many different relationships and entanglements between characters. One subplot I enjoyed in particular was the friendship healing that occurs between Andrea and Olivia who is a friend from middle school. There are deep resentments from the past that both friends hold against each other until they are made to confront one another about it. In many ways, Olivia plays a major role in Andrea owning her romantic feelings towards Hailey- and Dad, too, which was super charming and sweet! The ending will leave readers with warm, fuzzy feelings. Keah Brown has that effect!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the e-arc copy!
