Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is the quick and dirty story of an influencer turned serial killer. Throughout the story, Kitty Collins tries to keep up her glamorous lifestyle all while hiding the blood on her hands. While there were plenty of twists and turns, and a surprise at the very end, this book really failed to keep my attention. I really found Kitty unlikable as a narrator and character and so it was difficult to stay in her head the entire time.

This book was snarky and hilarious and dark and just so fun. Kitty Collins is a mega-famous Instagram influencer. Her likes are brand deals for products she never uses, shopping, and her best girlfriends. Her dislikes are brand deals for products she never uses, shopping, and her best girlfriends.

Kitty's feeling apathetic about her luxurious life, until she gets followed home from the bar by some drunk douchebag who can't take no as an answer. In fighting him off, Kitty accidentally k*lls him. Oops. She can't bring herself to feel too guilty, considering, and when she gets away with it, it opens her eyes to a whole new hobby. Of course, she only unalives misogynists and r*pists, so it's basically, like, philanthropy.

But when a stalker who knows what she's been up to appears in her DMs, it complicates things. This is a fun romp of a book, but the author has a deft hand at portraying complex emotions and the trauma of past relationships, both familial and otherwise. The contrast between the few heavier scenes with the bloody frivolity made both areas even stronger. I'll probably be rereading this, and will definitely read more from Katy Brent.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, & the author for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Funny & entertaining. I thought the language was at times offensive but overall this had lots of twists & turns.

Kitty is a vegan heiress to a meat industry fortune. And she has a deadly secret - she murders people. A swirl of high society, drinking, drug use, and justice killings, our unreliable narrator, Kitty, brings us into her world. I could not put down this book! 4.5/5

Thank you Netgalley and Harper 360 for sending the book for review consideration. All opinions are my own!

Kitty Collins considers herself a female Dexter. She believes she kills men who deserve it—rapists, creeps, stalkers—so there is nothing to feel bad about. But when she kills a man who didn’t deserve it, her life starts to unravel.

This is a fast paced book that’s more funny than thriller. The chapters are quick, and Kitty’s dry humor kept me reading. I enjoyed her character a lot. She’s kind of a mess and she knows it, but the more I learned about her past, the more her actions made sense. The part that didn’t make a lot of sense to me was Kitty’s stalker and how little attention it gets. This stalker watches her kill people and sends her ominous messages afterwards, but Kitty never seems to care? It ends up being a huge plot point, so I didn’t understand why it was such a minor detail throughout 80% of the book. I did keep trying to guess who the stalker was though and I wasn’t even close, so I always appreciate a non-obvious twist. I’d rate this 3.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley, Harper 360, and Katy Brent for this free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really loved the premise of this book and thought it would be right up my alley. The idea of a female Dexter type character intrigued me and I was expecting it to be slightly ridiculous or slightly dark. However. it did not fulfill what I wanted it to.

All of the characters were very unlikely. Our main character, Kitty, is an influencer and nepo baby and she as bad as that description makes her sound. Her friends are not any better.

I was expecting for her to be smart enough to have good, thought out crimes but they all seemed way too easy for the police to solve.

Finally, I was expecting these men to be absolutely horrible monsters but they were not? For example, the second man just essentially ghosted her friend.

Even with these critiques, if this was a movie I would eat it up. I just could not deal with it as a book.

Oh I just know that this is going to be loved by so many people already. Especially for someone who’s looking for a book that effortlessly blends humor, wit, sarcasm, and dark entertainment; for them this is an absolute delight! And, so it was for me too

An influencer hunting down predators and rapists? I'm hooked already!

Kitty is a rich influencer wanting to wash her hands of the "blood money" from her family's meat product dynasty. When a creep follows her home from the bar one night and she accidentally kills him it starts a chain of events that leads Kitty to a new hobby. Murdering men. When someone starts stalking Kitty she'll have to put her new skills to the test without getting caught. With a fresh revenge storyline and tongue-in-cheek humor, you'll enjoy Kitty's exploits reclaiming the night.

While this was a fun read, it had a LOT of plot holes that left me wanting more and while Kitty is an unlikable character on purpose some of her behavior pushed the boundaries into annoying.

Kitty Collins is a Instagram influencer. A superstar. The daughter of a meat factory mogul. She has only known the best of the best. Designer clothes, lavish vacations, incredible home and no stress about money. The life a lot of people dream of. One night alone she almost becomes a victim of rape. Accidentally she kills him. In a daze she goes home and thus begins her journey of becoming the predator no longer the prey.

What I didn’t like? Everything. The writing and choice of words are very cringey. The I am woman hear me roar trope is not my thing. Judge, jury and executioner……yeah lame. Unbelievable that there is not a shred of CCTV footage in existence…….I mean seriously how convenient. There is a point where she envisions the impossible. I thought who does she think she is……….Wesley Snipes in Blade?? All the characters are trash except for Kitty’s mother. I’m baffled.

What I did like. Not a very long book. Chapters are relatively short. Shockingly I found it readable. It went fast which one can hope. I finished it because I wanted to see what happened in the end. Does it mean it was good? No, it was quite eye rolling.

I hope people don’t read this book and think that over drinking, pill popping, coke snorting, binge/purge and judging a person based on followers is cool.

Lastly, I want this experience to fall into what I call Swiss cheese memory. Fall into one of the many holes never to see the light of day ever again.
Sorry, I know this was rough.

A Dexter type story but the lead was a female, wealthy blogger. The author mad her lovable, but I still hoped for justice in the end.

How to Kill Men and Get Away With it by Katy Brent is a mixed bag for me, in the best possible way.

Kitty Collins is an influencer who accidentally kills her first victim and then the next thing you know if you are a male who is an abuser, sexist, misogynist, cheater and so on...watch out, you're fair game for Kitty.

The book is full of dark humor and you (kind of) root for Kitty as she takes out people who really aren't good people, but you then think - we're rooting on a serial killer? Well, yes, yes, I was.

The book is fast paced and I finished it wanting more.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review. Everything is definitely my own opinion.

Enjoyed this. It was unique and plucky. Fast paced and just a little bit gory. I could do without ever reading about influencers again though. Do people really take them seriously? I don’t get it. The twist was kind of obvious but worked well. Ending was decent.

What a ride! This is dark and morally grey and weirdly, so much fun. Kitty, our girl-next-door social media influencer, seems to make an honest mistake that results in death, but as her story unravels we realize that may not be the case. I wasn't expecting a couple of the twists and turns along the way and overall this book was a fun read, and one that has me looking forward to what Katy Brent may give us next. Thanks to Netgalley and Harper 360 for the ARC!

This book ended up being really weird for me, but ultimately, I liked it a lot. I was expecting dark humor and the first half kind of was. The second half felt much deeper, and honestly, it was that half that I couldn't put down.

Kitty is a social media influencer and a vigilante serial killer on the side. She's killing men who have hurt other women. I couldn't help but root for her. She was actually very likable.

It was a quick read filled with murder and villainy, but also filled with numerous plot holes. The plot holes are what's keeping this from being a 5 star read for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I appreciate the ARC of How to Kill Men and Get Away With It, but this one was not for me.

I was hoping for a female Dexter with a vendetta to get the bad men of the world. I just had a very hard time as the main character was incredibly unlikeable. I am pretty sure that is what the author was going for, but I had trouble finding any likeable qualities. I also despised the whole Social Media Influencer side of things.

If you like dark comedy and are good with annoying and unlikeable characters, then this may be for you. Sadly, it was not for me.

📖 ARC REVIEW 📖

Thank you @hqstories for an early copy of How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. 🤍

How to Kill Men and Get Away With It tells the story of how Kitty, a popular influencer and elite, found her dark side that she doesn’t share with anyone else. It all started when she accidentally kills a drunk and annoying guy who just wants to have his hands on her (and apparently he has a girlfriend and a daughter) as he chases her down a street. Her next kill she did not intend to kill either, he just wanted him to apologize to her friend whom he ghosted after playing with her feelings. With every kill, she has become some sort of vigilante, teaching men who abuse women a lesson.

While I found the premise and the beginning of the book interesting and disturbing on so many levels with all the gore, the characters in this novel were quite annoying to be honest. I found Kitty quite the hypocrite as she justifies her murders with saving the women the men were abusing or harassing, but she judges these women and can’t tolerate them, nonetheless. She also has lots of influencer friends, and I’m not sure why mentioning their follower count is even relevant to the novel, maybe Kitty just thinks too highly of herself, and the follower count reminds her how she’s superior over them.

Rating this novel ⭐⭐⭐/5. Released October 12th, 2022.

Disclosure: HarperCollins purchased an advertising package with my site to promote this title but I read it on my own accord.
This book was described to me as "stabby Sex and the City" and that's not far off. I appreciate how little remorse our main character Kitty has for the murders she commits, it was unexpected and oddly refreshing to read about a woman with a misaligned moral compass. But the storytelling falls flat. I can see a comparison to My Sister, the Serial Killer but that book is written better and has a bit more substance to it. How to Kill Men scratches the surface of satire or black humor but doesn't dive deep enough for my taste.

Thanks so much to Netgalley for this digital galley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Katy Brent’s ‘How To Kill Men and Get Away With it’ was the weird and perfect blend of comedy, murder, romance, and mystery. It was a very quick and engaging read.

This book follows Kitty Collins, who’s a social media influencer who murders rapists and bad guys on the side. I really found myself empathizing with the “villain” of the book, and absolutely loved it.

There was some big plot twists and reveals at the end, and I literally was not able to guess it at all. The reveal really took me by surprise.

Overall, I would rate this book four stars. It was really engaging and quick to read! Would definitely recommend reading.

The premise of this book was so promising! Famous Instagram influencer who fulfills her Dexter-esque fantasies of killing people - but it’s only men who deserve it. These men follow women home, make the world unsafe, force themselves on women against their will… the list can go on and on of ways they make the world worse. I was super excited to read this one, especially with such an amazing cover! But maybe my hopes were a little too high, and thus this one fell a little flat for me. There are also A LOT of triggers in this book, so tread carefully. It’s not completely gory - but one scene where a body part is sawed off while the victim was still alive was just too much for me. Then things get very dark towards the end, but the tone of the book is on the lighter side, which was an odd juxtaposition.
