Ruth Garber and her granddaughter Stella survived the sabotage of the oil rig in the first book along with a small amount of other survivors. But they know that the AILS is still coming for the rig and they're able to escape and sail for a close by island. But the island isn't the refuge they think it is as they're faced with a fierce group of survivors protecting their own uncertain future.
This is an action packed post apocalyptic thriller, part 2 in a series. The story starts off with a bang and is nonstop twists from there. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have to say I do not normally like Post-Apocalyptic stories.

But I was gripped from the start with this.

It does help to have read the first in the series.

The characters are well developed and the story just keeps giving.

One I could not put down.

This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. I did not see that the title shows it is part of a series. This didn't help the fact that I did not have time to find and read the first book before getting this this one! I am giving this book three stars, as I don't want to give it a good or bad rating, since I did not get to it.

"No Relief: EMP Sabotage Book 2" by Grace Hamilton is a gripping and intense continuation of the post-apocalyptic series that'll keep you hooked with its high-stakes survival story.

One after the other, Grace Hamilton delivers. My ONLY quibble is I hate cliffhanger endings. That said, I'll take it!

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This is the second book in the series. Ruth leaves the oil platform to find her brother and help on the mainland. She leaves Stella behind to lead the rest of the survivors as they wait for AILS to come. In this book, the group encounters others and gets a better idea of how the outside world is dealing with the EMP and the fallout.
This book is a good continuation of the series. I would suggest that you read the first. Without reading it, you will have a difficult time understanding what is happening and why. If you are a fan of this type of book, this one is good.

I tried to read No Relief, by Grace Hamilton, several times, but I just can’t get in to it. At 65% I just stopped. It’s just not that interesting, I always love a good EMP, or apocalypse story, but this just isn’t gripping, nor attention holding. The characters are just drab.

I missed the first book in this series and quickly discovered that book 2 is not a standalone. So- off I went to a certain vendor to check out the first of the series. After making my way through it (I. Must. Resist. Reviewing. Book. One.), I ventured in to book two.

I love dystopian fiction. Kudos to having a strong female adult as the protagonist. The author provides lots of action, while leaving me at many points questioning, “But, why not do this logical thing instead?” I don’t mind questioning, but I do mind being left with the feeling that logical course of action would have been better reading

One suggestion: less talking heads, more description. Break up all that dialogue.

Grace Hamilton is a very prolific writer of "after the collapse" series.....lucky for us, she's a very good one. I've read many of her series and keep coming back for more. Every one of her series are different, no recycling stories. Each has a core group that keeps the story moving and provides the main parts of the back stories. Ms Hamilton is very good at quickly building characters and backgrounds. She keeps the stories moving at a quick pace and always includes details that will shock you when you find out how little you know about surviving a major catastrophe.

This series has at it's core a group of people who survived numerous attacks on an oil rig nut must now get off the rig before the attackers come. They manage to make their way to a small island where a cruise ship has wrecked. A small group of the cruise survivors has claimed dominance and is willing to fight to maintain it.

Another small group of survivalists has become a target of the terrorists that started the events that brought down the infrastructure most of us take for granted. This group has connections to the oil rig survivors and will begin their journey to join them.

This is book 2 in this series. I would read the 1st one so you know all of the back story, but the story is interesting as it stands, too. Hamilton's series seldom contain more than 4 or 5 books so you are not committing the rest of your life to this one. But again, her series are all unique and all good. Treat yourself.

A wonderful continuation of the saga of life post EMP attack on the Mako Oil Platform. The crew tries to find sanctuary on an island, but this is more challenging than expected. They then opt to split up, with Ruth and John traveling to the mainland for help while the rest of the crew has to maintain control of the platform. The terrorist group has plans to continue their attacks on both land and sea. This is a nail biter as there is danger at every turn. Just because you can trust a person one day does not mean that they are your allies. Such a scary story of what could be ... But a wonderfully engaging read!!

After the way bk 1 ended I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one to read it!
Once again the cover could be a depiction from a specific scene within the book. I’d say the two characters featured prominently on it are Ruth Garber and John Baron who teamed up during the first bk and succeeded in finding out who the very dangerous mole on the oil rig was.
With the threat of the terrorist group AILS coming to take over the oil rig the group of survivors decide to try to find somewhere else to settle. They come across an island and the cruise ship that had manically waved for help as it passed the rig in bk1 seems to already have organised themselves somewhat, but all is not what it seems and they are soon involved in the problems of the island that is being ruled in a rather tyrannical fashion. The oil rig group help the islanders but decide that life on this nearby island isn’t a great idea either, so the group decide to return to the oil rig and prepare for battle against the terrorist group AILS. They intend to hold onto the rig at all costs.
Shortly after returning Ruth decides she needs to contact her brother Ronny who designed the oil rig as he should be able to help them defend the rig against the terrorists group. It’s going to be a race against time as to whether Ruth will get back to the rig before AILS arrive but it’s decided that they have to try, having Ronny’s insider knowledge could be the thing that gives them the edge in the fight for control of the oil rig. Of course, there are lots of too-ing and fro-ing about who should go to the mainland to visit Ronny and ask for his help. Of course, Ruth has to go as its her brother, but her granddaughter, Stella wants to go too. Finally, it is agreed that Ruth should not go alone, and it should be John who accompanies her, leaving Stella and John’s son, Curtis with the rest of the oil rig workers to start defence preparations.
The book is kind of split into the following “groupings”, Stella & Curtis and those on the rig, Ronny and what is happening to him, AILS point o view and the final section being the dynamic duo of Ruth & John together on land trying to battle their way through what is now hostile country due to travelling gangs to get to her brother Ronny. Ronny has the now very valuable original plans of the oil rig at his property. Ruth fully expects her brother to be safe on his own land as he was always the type to be ultra-prepared for the current EMP attack. Ruth isn’t sure what sort of a welcome she will receive from her brother as they aren’t on the best of terms but that doesn’t stop her shock and horror at finally arriving at Ronny’s home to find traces of blood and her brother gone.
I don’t want to reveal anymore but there’s lots of action, angst and adventure from the beginning of the book to the end with a few surprise twists thrown in too. Theres also the possible romances between Ruth & John and Stella & Curtis running alongside of the main parts of the plot to which is a great addition. I do like these four characters and though Ronny seems like he could be an awkward man I liked his character too. I have to admit to disliking Kay to begin with but I kind of think that was Grace Hamilton’s intention because she wanted us the reader to think of Kay as a potential suspect in bk1.
I definitely recommend reading this series, I’ve been hooked from the first few pages of bk1 and still are! There seems to be the promise of lots more to come from bk3. I am already (im)patiently waiting for the next book!
