Countdown is Book 4 in the Extreme Measures series. Each book stands alone, although reading them all gives you the back story of each character. Countdown is Raina’s story.
Raina is a flight paramedic with a stalker, but she she hasn’t told her friends. A US Marshall intervenes to help catch the stalker and keep Raina alive.
Countdown is fast-paced and filled with intense action. Twists and turns, romance, and faith - all the ingredients for a great read.
Many thanks to Revell and Net Galley for my copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
Raina Price, paramedic, has always seemed a bit distant and detached. Vince Covelli, US Marshall, is determined to break down Raina's walls. When Raina's life is in danger, she has no one to turn to but Vince. Will Raina be able to be honest with him about her past in order for him to protect her? Find out in this fast-paced suspenseful tale of intrigue and second chances.
"Countdown" is a Christian romantic suspense. This is the 4th novel in a series, but it works as a stand alone. Raina was charmed by a serial killer who nearly killed her and who won't stop trying to find her to finish the job. When Raina sees TV interview with an adopted boy who looks just like the killer, she knows the boy is the killer's son and is in danger. She needs Vincent's help as he has the connections to warn the boy. But the effort alerts her stalker to her location, and now someone's trying to kill her.
The main characters were engaging, complex, capable, and reacted realistically to events. They had personal issues to deal with in addition to stopping the killer. The suspense was high throughout as the boy was in danger and Raina was repeatedly attacked. Raina and Vincent were friends from the start, but Raina no longer trusted her judgment about men and didn't want to put anyone else in danger. She accepted his help (and thanked him) because she needed it, but it was hard for her to let Vincent and her friends know about her past and endanger themselves to help her.
The Christian element was about perspective: when Raina felt God was doing a poor job of protecting them, Vincent pointed out how they were still alive and without serious injuries. They briefly talked about why God let bad things happen. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting story.
I had total replacement surgery of my right shoulder. So typing one handed is quite a chore. But NetGalley won’t except anything less than 100 words. I get it. But I thought a review was better sooner than later. I'm not sure the title relates to the story all that well. I must have missed something. But this is a great ending to another great series. The characters are well developed and the action is non stop. . If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, you should. This book can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but it is more enjoyable if you’ve read the whole series.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy
Countdown is the gripping and intense conclusion to Lynette Eason’s Extreme Measures series. From the first page, I had trouble putting the book down. I am never disappointed with this author’s books. She is a master at telling romantic suspense stories with enough twists to keep me guessing to the end. I also loved revisiting all the friends from the first three books, although each can be read as a stand alone. This is such a good series!
3.5 stars
Countdown by Lynette Eason features a past that comes back to haunt the main heroine, Raina. With plenty of twists and turns, Eason throws her readers and characters under the bus by tightening the noose tighter and tighter as the story moves along. There were moments of high energy and downtime to allow the readers to get to know Raina and Vincent. As for an Eason novel, this one was not my favorite. The romance seemed a little unbelievable. They meet, and Raina shares all her past secrets with Vincent. Things she did not even share with the other three girls that she had worked with for a couple of years. I found it weird that Vincent would drop everything in his life to help her solve her past mystery that has come back to haunt her. Overall, Countdown by Lynette Eason was okay at best. I needed more action and believability for the romance.
I received a complimentary copy of Countdown by Lynette Eason from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Flight paramedic Raina Price has a secret she's been keeping from even her best friends - she has a stalker. But when she sees an interview clip on television featuring a snowboarder who has the skills to make the Olympic team, she knows her life as she knows it may be over. She must protect the snowboarder no matter the cost to herself. She asks her friend, US Marshal Vincent Corelli, to help get a message to the young snowboarder and his family that their safety is in jeopardy. Not only does Vincent vow to help Raina, but he also wants to break down her walls and and prove he's someone she can trust implicitly, and maybe even learn to love.
I enjoyed this story from Lynette Eason! I've enjoyed getting to know all the characters in the Extreme Measures series, and I'm sad to see the series end! There was a twist at the end of this story that I never saw coming! Eason writes this story from the perspective of Raina and Vincent, but also we get insights into the stalker and his family. Even with all the information, I did not see the ending coming!
I was hooked from the first page! Intense, emotional, nail-biting. This book is an excellent addition to the Extreme Measures series (although reading the other books first isn’t necessary). Lynette Eason is a skilled story-teller and a master at romantic suspense. There were definitely some twists, and I was spellbound!
This is the conclusion to Lynette Eason's Extreme Measures series. I've really enjoyed all the stories in this series but they can definitely be read as stand alone novels since they are so self contained.
This book tells the story of Raina as she deals with danger from her past, and she needs help - even though it kills her to bring anyone into her history.
Vince is a great hero. He is a trained US marsal who likes Raina and is willing to accept what she offers. As Raina and Vince get closer they open up to each other about their past and what they want for the future. I really enjoyed Raina's story and while the danger, at times, was wildly insane it was a fun read and I enjoyed seeing these friends come together for each other again and again.
A gripping novel that had me captivated right through to the end. There were awesome reminders of God's love and grace and how much community and family are so important. It is an encouraging novel that inspired me to keep putting one foot in front of the next.
I always enjoy Lynette Eason's books and have never been disappointed yet. The combination of romance, suspense, pacing, characters, and storyline keeps me turning pages until the book is done. I always enjoy the friendship and comradery between the characters in the book and characters from the other series and yet they're written in a way that you're not missing out if you happen to read them out of order. Even with the flaws of the characters or bad decisions they've made in the past, you can't help but feel along with them and cheer for them.
Lynette Eason has written another winner. Countdown is a fast paced romantic suspense. I could quit reading this book. I definitely recommend this book. I received an advance ebook from Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
Tons of action in this book! Lynette Eason just has a way of keeping the storyline moving. Someone is after Raina, but it isn't really who you think it might be! At every turn there is someone there to try and stop her.
What a read I loved every moment of this book. I have recently read the first three books in this series so I was familiar with the characters that ran through the books and I am so glad I did. When it came to Countdown you are drawn into the past of Raina and her struggles with trust because she has been let down by those she thought she could trust and also her struggle with her relationship with God.
She is on the run from an ex who wants her dead who has made sure she is isolated from her family and friends with the threat and follow through of harming them if she makes contact. There is also a child involved but I wont say too much on that as I do not want to give too much away.
Vince the male lead in this story also struggles with a past with guilt and whether he can fully share those details with anyone he wants to get close to.
Through a series of events Raina and Vince escape many death intended moments to solve the mystery on who is after them and reunite Raina with her family. Along the way a friendship starts and both Raina and Vince learn to trust not only in each other but in God.
This story for me did have a bigger faith element which was lovely to read about and see the journey of Raina and Vince develop into their happily ever after. A great conclusion to a brilliant series. I would like to thank Lynette Eason and Net Galley for allowing me to have an ARC copy of this book to honestly review.
Countdown, Lynette Eason's conclusion to the Extreme Measures series, and finally the story of the mysterious Raina. Her story does not disappoint. We get a lot of closure in this book, not just for Raina but with glimpses of the other leading ladies from the previous books. That being said, this could be read as a stand alone or out of order. I enjoyed the stories fast pace, it kept me interested and it was a quick read. It is clean and I appreciate that. I have read enough Lynette Eason, that the ending didn't really surprise me. But I was fully satisfied. I wish there was more faith content - such as when a character comes from a hard background (with poor choices) and has turned their life around, it would be nice if the credit was given to God - I felt that part was a little thin in this book. But I still enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Lynette Eason's books and more Christian romantic suspense.
This book kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. The twists and turns are epic in this book and I didn't want it to end. The suspense kept me until the end and will have me thinking about this book for quite a while.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book. I have always enjoyed this author's books & this one did not disappoint.
Full of mystery & intrigue...it keeps me wanting to come back for more. The book was easy to read & I got through it quickly.
I appreciate the author's style of writing, how clean her books are & that they include God.
Thanks to Netgalley & the Publisher. Iwas able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is the fourth book in this series and you should really read the other three. This book tells the story of Raina and her problems with a stalker. This book is a Christian romantic suspense.
This wasn't my favourite. For me, the story was a lot of talking between Vincent and Raina as they were getting to know each other, rather than engaging in different scenes and action. It was a little odd that she felt comfortable confiding in Vincent before her longest friends. I enjoyed the camaraderie in the group and staying in touch with the other characters as they support and encourage each other. I'd still recommend it if you enjoyed the previous books in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and for the opportunity to post an honest review.
“I think that’s where faith comes in. We just have to trust that God is still in control even when it looks like he isn’t and we don’t understand why he does or doesn’t do something.” She squeezed his fingers. “Easier said than done.”“Yep.”
You'll want to read this one with the lights on. Countdown is an intense suspense novel filled with twists, turns and elusive suspects that pop up like whac-a-moles.
I really loved Raina's character; she was kind, thoughtful and selfless in everything she did. She made a great flight paramedic and an even better friend.
U.S. Marshal Vincent (Vince) Corelli was a brilliant supporting character and protector to Raina and her medical team. His job sounded both seriously dangerous and amazing!
Honestly, this is my new favorite book of Lynette's with Crossfire being a close second! I hate to see this series end, but can't wait to see what other ideas she has up her sleeve lol!
I received a complimentary e-book from the publisher through Netgalley to review.
I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.
